Fiji deflate run number 3
September 12 2024
This about sums it up! Beautiful warm blue ocean and dreamy bumps! What else? It's like this every day!
Besides that amazing sentence, this is a typical run. Being one of my first here, I'm taking it easy... That means gear that works, and conservative tactics. I'm winging out about 2.5km for these deflates and it seems the perfect amount for now. It does leave me wanting a touch as far as distance but that leaves me in a state of psyched! In the future it also means I can ride harder knowing it doesn't have to be too sustainable. It is also allowing me to test a higher volume of foils and setups.
For these first runs though the Axis 1201 is just perfect for me. It's a safe foil in that it can handle most anything I'm likely to face in this environment or any environment really. It a 1318cm2 foil, although Axis endearingly calls it the 1201ArtPro due to calling all their foils by the wingspan... Im used to it and personally like it as the wing span for me is what I'm focussed on. For most of us though, the area is the normal currency.
Why am I interested in wing span? On water stability! I notice a radical change in stability when I drop down in span, area not so much. I think it is to do with the roll of the board being dampened via span... Forward or pitch drag doesn't end up being as much of a factor for me.
My main goal for these runs has been to get on foil, and that means being able to stand on my board in unknown conditions. Dont get me wrong I love a fast turny foil as much as the next winger! but I also know the consequences if I end up underfoiled! I don't have unlimited energy for multiple failed paddle ups, or even for short links on foil... My bread and butter is getting on foil and staying up there!
Anyway enjoy the video! Be good, be kind, and most important of all keep sending it!! Yew!!!

Your comment has brightened my day even brighter than it was 🤙🤙
Shared to my channel. Thanks 🙏 for allowing. Trying to excite retirees to the tropical 🌴 Philippines 🇵🇭 cheers 🥂
@@wingfoilrentals nice, can I see? Link?
Great watching the paddle ups on the drone 🤙💪🏼😀
@@markreadett7412 lots more coming 🫡🤙
How did you do the drone and foil, did you have somebody to launch and land the drone for you? Itlooks like you had a camera on the paddle handle why didnt you include those shots in the video. Larry
@@leapnlarry Hi Larry
Someone is fully flying the drone for me.
I have a GoPro on the paddle and do have footage from it too, but I decided to just use drone footage for this one.
I was thinking for people watching to see the lines taken, they would appreciate uncut footage and It was already a lot of work for me getting the syncing happening correctly.
I’m not a fan of filming from the paddle anymore if I can avoid it, it holds me back from riding how I would without a camera. My next few runs I took the camera off…
My girlfriend wanted me to add the GoPro clips in as well. I will do some in future vids 😎
Drone footage is great mate . Nice to ride along and pick some lines
Thank you boss! The footage is getting better daily and it should get more and more fun as the drone gets dialed in further. Todays footage I've been looking at is excellent! 🤙🤙
It just gets better!
Was that audio overlay from your GoPro? Can’t be drone picking up the foil whistling!
It does 🥲 wait for the next ones!
Yip it’s the GoPro collecting the audio… found away to utilise it!
You are a whistling addict.
Coming back over? We’ve found a very good, go to beach and only a 10min walk from home 🤙🥹🤙
@@downwind_drifter waiting watching!
The whistling is shwreeettt 😃 cherry on the cake dw run back to shore today riding bumps chasing the shadows wheee wheeee wheeee…
Would love to head back maybe next winter! My work travel calendar is packed till December…
Great run Jacen really enjoyed watching it looks like Fiji is the place must come and join you
Thanks, yea, I’ve found a slice 😁
It would suit if you came tomorrow!
Wonderful line choice footage!.So much to learn...
At 03:40 (i think) there is a very clear example of leaving a dying ride and hopping across & back to the one behind, and then again.I have to do this more often... :(
Thanks for the great message!
I can see what you’re saying there, those cutbacks become fun with a surfy foil! I have footage coming of me on the spitfires hooking into those same turns but with extra meaning! 🤙🤙
What are you doing instead?
@@downwind_drifter Eeerrr...staying on too long and sinking LOL
@@maca5645 ah, yea well don't do that! Have you watched my tactics playlist? there might be some juicy finds on there for you :)
