The Tuner, by Module 8, is a revolutionary optical device that enables standard lenses and mirrorless digital cameras to recreate the look and feel of some iconic vintage glass such as the famous Super Baltars and Canon (R) K-35’s. Its World Wide Patent Pending technology, Vari-Look, enables The Tuner to do something never done before…emulate classic lenses and give you the manual control to adjust the strength of their look.

Truly we have come full circle in lens design. From engineering the most optically perfect and sharp to now this, a device that undoes all of that. What a crazy world 2023 is.
Both cheap items and items that replicates vintage designs have pretty much stayed popular. They never really fell out.
Like he said, some of these lenses are legendary
It's about having both the character of the old with the control and power of the new.
I guess you haven't heard of PS Technik and all of those 35mm lens adapters that came out around 20 years ago.
Exactly all that creamy blurry stuff not sure it is my definition of cinema. Good luck!
I'd love to see more controlled tests so we can objectively see how each tuner affects lenses
100% agree. This is too fast, too hectic, too hipster. Controlled before and after please. The guy who designed the filters is a reputable cinema lens designer in the industry, less marketing shenanigans, let the product speak.
I can’t agree more
You know this is a big deal when Moment brought the “A” Team in to do the launch 👍🏻 Remarkable glass!
Sounds so fascinating! Would love to see more tests with these lenses in short narrative/doc scenarios.
We can do that!!
@@moment When can we expect them? I'm thinking of getting all 3 of them but I'm still not sure what I'm spending my money on. Would you please do some controlled before and after tests?
One of the most innovative creations I’ve seen, for sure
This is really cool! Great work everyone!
Thanks dude!!
What an incredibly innovative solution! I love the size and economical choice of the rear glass design, but I would also be interested in a front glass adapter. Totally understand it would be more expensive, but then you wouldn't be limited by the camera or lens choices. Regardless, it's a stunning achievement!
You guys are BREAKING THE GAME, my god that's incredible !
The idea is amazing. But the price tag for such a device probably puts it outside for a lot of people. To choose between a better lens or a filter? I think the choice is easy, lens.
So unique! I’m excited for this one!
Stunning result with these lens adapters, looking for one in FujiFilm X mount
I achieved the same effect with a fungus-infected lens.
it's incredibile how people like to waste their money in "Innovative" gear
😂
This is definitely super cool. I found a lot of luck using the metabones speedbooster for MFT cameras (most recently with the GH6) paired up with vintage Nikon primes. You get an extra stop of light plus all the characteristics of an old lens. It's not variable like yours is but it definitely brings its own look using actual vintage glass.
Pretty awesome to see camera and glass technology develop! I can't imagine the creators of 60s and 70s Japanese Nikkor lenses seeing their glass paired with a pocket size cinema camera with IBIS and ridiculous resolutions. What will the future hold for us now?
THIS IS STUPIDLY AMAZING!!! I'M EXCITED!!
Reminds me of the Arri V filters. Taking optically nearly perfect lenses and adding imperfections and (retro) character to it
Amazing! Unfortunately there isn’t a Fuji mount version… will buy if they become available.
I’ve got my eye on that L2!
I was ready to back but I use Fuji so now I‘m going to hope it becomes a success and gets a Fuji version
The innovation is he spent 4 years finding a universal way to reduce the resolution of modern lenses
Soooo epic!
Which look would you get? L1, L2, or L3??
Why not choose , collect
All of them
L2
CAN I USE L3 WITH MOMENT ANAMORPHIC ADAPTER?
Damn this is dope🔥
These look great! Unfortunately my Z Cam E2 doesn’t have a lens mount this will work with.
And any chance of making a video showing a bunch of with clips shot with and without the adapters in different environments? I would love to see how much change they make to the look.
Damn I NEEEEED one!
Im so interested to see version 3 paired with there anamorphic adapter.
Nice! I hope a version without the electronics for Nikon F mount lenses will appear in the future. (At a lower price point). Of course, Nikon F users can just get an F to EF adapter.
Gahhhhh must try that module 3!!!!
Leave a lot of fingerprints on your glass and you'll get a similar effect.
Or get a diffuse filter (pro mist)
I’d like to volunteer as tribute to test it with 5D3 w/Magic Lantern or EOS M w/ ML. Lol depending on if The Tuner is able to shoot full frame. I also have BMD pocket 4K w/CDNG FW, BMCC 2..5K, Canon R5.
All jokes aside this looks amazing
Saying goodbye to my diffusion filters.
I am buying this.
Only need one of these instead of a different one for each lens too
Would love to see swappable mounts
Hey will they work with Zeiss Milvus Ef mount ? And how do the effect of the adapter looks like on f4 or 5.6 ? Thanks!
Ah bummer... was hoping for a LUMIX L-Mount option
Starting here but lots more looks and mounts to come
I would love to see test footage that isn't quickly edited so that I can see the quality of the glass - specifically L2
On the kickstarter there's a longer video for every look! And more to come
homestly, the only downside to this is the limited mount options and native adaption options. Im on L mount and probably wont ever use this, but hopefully its a success and the market has a demand for this kind of product
Can you use an MC 21 L to EF adapter to then use the tuner and then mount an EF lens on it?
@@willyjakkz i believe the module 8 takes ef glass or cinema PL, it mounts on mirrorless Sony E and Canon RF
@@AngeloRyanMaalat gotcha. Was looking at this because I have an Sigma FP L mount and looking at lens options myself
@@willyjakkz honestly, ef glass with a diffusion filter is more usable. The MC21 is the best adapter for ef and the autofocus will be better for talking heads
There will be any option to use this for mobile? I mean some adapters for that or mobile version? ❤️ Its simply amazing!
Man, this thing for photography would be so neat too.
100%. Way smaller than these original lenses to go shoot photos on as well
@@moment absolutely, hoping they make it in L mount!
So a set of these plus the moment anamorphic adaptor and a fast zoom and you have a full cinema vintage anamorphic glass kit for 4k vs 40k?
hey ! any chance to get a L-mount version soon ?
I think the biggest challenge ya'll will face is convincing people to drop $2,000 on an adapter for EF glass that actively degrades the image... That is preposturously expensive. And I'm not even a hater, I like seeing Moment's growth... But this...this is tough to watch.
Where can I see some before/after and different strength frames to compare? images on kickstarter are low-res and couldn't tell the difference that much...
will wait for E Mount
which EF lenses would you recommend to use with SONY bodies for this tuner? looking to retain the autofocus if possible
I really wanna try this with my moment anamorphic
That would be insanely fun
I was thinking the same thing!
😦 take my money
Brings to mind vintage amp emulator plug-ins.
exactly
Interesting. Reminds me of the Blacking 7 lenses a bit.
Yes but VARIABLE so it's like if you could adjust the BW lenses to get their full range of looks. And we are universal to EF lenses.
There should be an E to E mount for this one.. Imagine making all the boring G-lenses much better...With auto focus.. oh lord...
@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL needs to get on board with this. Seems right up Josh's alley. I could see a collab.
Lets make this happen
Done earlier today. Can’t wait. Next up: variable anamorphic bokeh.
Please make a PL mount version !
So it’s a vaseline on UV-filter adapter?
I require this
I just have a really quick question, having the fx30 right now, with this Tuner does it allow me to use FE mount lens on it as well? Or just the EFmount and, etc..
Only EF mount lens
@@vudoo2068 Thank you so much!
Wow!
Will it be compatible with Sony E-Mount lenses in the future?
Would love to rent this item first, before I commit to purchase.
I like L2 the most
cool gagit gear
YUHHHHHHHHHH
Does it work with Sony E-Mount Lens?
Backed!
need 1 like YESTERDAY
brb going back in time to get you part of our launch video
Looks awesome & does an awesome job. Like someone commented, brought out the A team for the task 🦾💯🔥
I personally prefer the L1 & L3 look, specially the L1. The questions I have are:
1. Can you use the tuner on Fuji X Mount bodies?
2. Can you attach Fuji X mount lenses on to the tuner & will the autofocus still be working?
Also wondering if there is a Fuji x mount option
@@ZachJagers Not yet but we will add L and X mount
L1 just makes everything blurrier with lower contrast. Vaseline on your lens seems cheaper
Lets get some footage of the L3 plus the 1.33x anamorphic adapter.
yesterday all day I watch abouth Canon k35 how I can buy, today I saw this amazing
You're welcome haha
cool gagita
First? I like the look of the second. Does this support canon RF?
Yes
So you could get the samyang anamorfakes and the l3 and get a great anamorphic look
Please do more scientific, controlled tests, like Geralt Undone. 1000 bucks is too much for not tested equipment.
Kind of curious could you stack this on top of a Metobones speedbooster Ultra .71x?
No, we use the same space they do.
Is moment planning on coming out with other lens mounts aside from EF for these Module 8 vari-tunes? I would have picked some up from kickstarter if they can in an E-Mount.
Hey Moment Team,
Another great product on KS!
Some questions:
1) on your compatibility list, did not see the A7S3 and A74. Since they’re E-mount, I’m presuming it is supported but want to make sure
2) did not see on list of EF lenses: Are the EF 16-35/4, 70-200/2.8 iii (only saw ii), and 85/1.4 supported? Hope these lenses are supported
3) So I shoot both Sony A7S3 and A74 as well as Canon R5 and 5C, but haven’t used vintage and anamorphic lenses so newbie with these looks. I use CineMatch to match the colors if I mix the two cameras on some projects.
I’m planning on getting 2 or 3 vari tuner adapters.
Since I have two different mounts (E and RF), I’m not sure how which look to get for each mount. Too expensive to get all, 3 looks for each mount is 6 adapters. Any suggestions on the combos (look + mount) since you worked on both Sony e-mount and Canon rf-mount cameras.
Great questions!! Do you mind leaving this as a comment on the kickstarter itself? Our optical designer will respond to you with an answer and then it helps others know what it works with as well!
@@moment, will do!
So it's basically a 1000$ Mist Filter, did I sum that up correctly?
Can someone ELI5 the appeal of this look / aesthetic? Is it to give footage a different look and just another option?
😮
I hope these aren’t silly questions:
-will this only support EF lenses?
-if I choose E mount at the end of the campaign will that let me use EF lenses on my Sony E mount camera (similar to an EF to E metabones adapter)?
Literally what i’ve been wondering
Yes, they are currently EF lenses only
@@michaelthomas1789 thanks for the heads up. I'm going to wait for the E version. I have plenty of Sony/Sigma glass for E mount but only one EF lens(milvus 50). The tuner sounds wicked but definitely makes more sense if I get it for the system I have glass for. thanks!
@@sneakingelephant looking at this design, I don't think it's possible to make an e-mount to e-mount version
@@gabrielmachadobsb thanks for the heads up. I’m not too technically knowledgeable on lens and mount designs. Why is it that it likely be possible?
I'll stick with my Super Takumars, Canon FD's & Minolta Rokkors thanks.
There’s something call mist filter tho
Now, I haven't shot on the super baltars but were they like THAT wide open?! I heard they were soft but really?
No since they Were T/2.5. We make then a lot softer when you increase lens speed
"subtle" it looks like it went from greasy finger prints to vaseline.
Guys, you misspelled whoa
They look cool, but $2,000 a piece is crazy. I'd consider like $500...
These need bayonets that are interchangable for different mounts wherever possible. That could be an incredible unlock for multi-body shooters.
Is it compatible with FUJIFILM mount? 👍 📸
Not yet but it will be,
It’s a variable pro mist filter. Gimmicky
Looks like finger prints and sweat on the camera lens
I'd put money down if there was Nikon - Fuji
That's exactly how my old Nikon lenses look when at f1.4. Like, exactly, I'm looking at it in another screen as I type this because I am in disbelief. I remember thinking "These are soft" and would barely go below f4 after witessing that. You're telling me people want to pay for something like this? On purpose? Just because the guy says they modeled it after the K-35s? The K-35s are an indusry standard because of the beautiful micro-contrast that gives it so much depth, and the way their specific coating renders skin-tones and color. The softness and aberration and the artifacts is something that looks great in contrast with the level of detail they provide, but you made a product focused solely on the imperfections of the lens, and those imperfections are exaggerated and bleed into the focused areas? This is horrible.
What makes anyone think that lenses didn't used to be sharp? What's going on here? It looks like Moment has launched a kickstarter for a product that makes your modern lens look like...a bad lens!
If these were pl mount I’d be all over them.
i hate to say this but for the price, why would i get this over a stack of Tiffen filters? They seem to be doing a similar thing to what you guys are doing for a fraction of the price and it just seems needlessly expensive. also there are brands like Aurora making drop in filters for adapters like the Sigma MC-21 for a behind-the-lens solution. For the price this is certainly DOA.
Take my money.
50% off the first 48 hours...
To achieve this result, simply apply a small amount of oil or butter on the camera boom 💥 You'll obtain the same outcome without needing to spend money on lens 😅
I can't believe there is no micro 3/4 nor canon EF mounts.😭
Voice over is familiar
needs more mount options
Which one next?
@@moment EF or PL are the big ones people will want. I as about to order one until I saw the mounting options :(
@@moment E-mount would be the most obvious.
LOOOL
I’ll be back in a few years when this costs a few hundred.
What’s supremely ironic to me is that now that this look will be widely available to anyone, I bet it’s going to very quickly loose it’s charm and fall out of favor. Rarity is a big part of what makes “the vintage look” so sought after, and without that it will suddenly become quite pedestrian.
