At the end of the day, someone is going to use this product and make great videos with it. That's all that matters. Personally, I like giving up control of the image when using vintage glass. Setting limits on yourself can be creatively liberating. It's like shooting on a roll a film. With a digital camera and SD cards, you can shoot as long as you want, delete footage, review, etc. With film, you get what you get, and move on. That's how I feel about vintage lenses. All the imperfections are exciting to me as an artist. If a client doesn't like or want CA in the video, then I will just use a different set of lenses. Great video as always Spenser, my favorite shot is the one at the end actually. And the funk from the Baltar one is kind of cool too for an effect.

I ordered this months ago. Still waiting. Glad to see what it's doing. All of my vintage lenses have autofocus via the TZM--02 on my Z8 and I shoot with bubble bokeh lenses a lot. So looking at this, it's really familiar, but since I owned the Sigma 18-35 (gave it away because I don't like clinical lenses) when he takes it off of the Sigma, I now have some regrets. I like what I see so far. I wonder if it will be fun for photography too, but it's so easy to just mount character lenses on my TZM-02 and get sharpness and wild bokeh. What I'm hoping is that since I can adapt EF to E mount and then adapt E mount to Z mount and the electronics still work, I'm hoping the experience will be the same with this Tuner and I can still adapt to the Z mount with AF to take advantage of the IQ of the Z8 over my Sony gear (A7SIII, A7IV). Now what I'm really wondering is what this looks like when I do use vintage/manual lenses with it. I wasn't planning on that, but it seems to be very, very interesting.

Feel like this could be cool on L mount with the lumix primes. They’re already very filmic, so dialing in the L2 (that L1 is too much) instead of dealing with filter reflections would be nice.
I use a cinebloom almost all the time to soften my lenses, so this would actually be really nice on the s5ii.

It's a cool idea, but a pretty pricy alternative to using vintage lenses. I have 2 FD lenses (55mm 1.2 and 24mm 2.8) and a Sigma 18-35 1.8. I just use the FilmConvert plugin to match. It gets the job done for a fraction of the cost. I'd be curious to test the L2 w/the Sigma and compare the image to my FD's. I suspect tweaking in post would still be necessary to match the image. Heck, some tweaking's necessary to match the image between my two FD's. For reference, my FD's have been converted to EF mounts and I shoot on a BMPCC 4K w/a Metabones BMPCC 4K - EF Ultra Cine speed booster.

Great video, thanks for taking the time to experiment with this interesting product but it's a no from me... it's a lot to expect from one adapter and unfortunately it fails badly. I have sets of FDs, CY Zeiss, Leica-R and Rokkors - you cannot emulate the focus rolloff, micro contrast, colour rendering etc. with one piece of glass. There is no magic bullet. Cheers

This looks pretty amazing, I mean that bokeh change on the lowest setting is awesome and for $3k you can get three completely different looks L1, L2 & L3 in one but also... $1.3k is hard to stomach for just one adapter that is as destructive as this, The biggest issue is being stuck in only EF, and PL lenses only. Most of my lenses are now E-Mount and NOT even available in EF.

Hey Spencer. Frankly, I'm liking the bare 18-35 without the tuner as it takes out a bit too much contrast and sharpness. For the price of what I'm guessing is at least a couple hundred $ why not pick up an actual vintage lens + can build a whole set later.

Two things… is this causing the auto focus to be awful or is that just a settings issue on the Red? (I have never operated a Red with auto focus)
    2) the chromatic aberration looks very unusable, the green in your beard makes it look like you are in front of a green screen and it was poorly keyed out.
These issues may simply be unnoticeable if you edit on a laptop or small screen but it’s blatant on my projector.
Would love to know more if you dig in and perhaps have some kind of follow up as this could be a great piece of kit if this is more user error rather then baked in issues.
    Love the channel!
P.s. wonder what if any impact it would have on anamorphic flares.

From the Samples it looks more like a detuner. I do like both the 18-35 and vintage lenses, but this adapter doesn´t deliver on an image quality side for me. I get using a mist filter can give you a special look and "take the edge off", but this seems like a case of turning it to 11 and degrading the image quality of the lenses to a degree, that takes the vintage-look too far.

The combo of pulsing AF and L2 (de)tuner is really jarring to me. The actual Canon ND delivered a much better and still vintage-y image. To me, this is 100% snake oil, sorry. For what this costs, you can buy a whole cart of old lenses that do a better job costing less or the same. Especially if you go for nFD lenses.
