  • When strawberries are in season you need to make some homemade strawberry jam!! Don't let those delicious berries go to waste; making homemade jam is readdly easy an so satisfying; a little taste of summer waiting in a jar. Try adding other berries, flavorings like vanilla, black pepper, orange zest, almond extract, or even steep some herbs for a minute or two. Have fun experimenting and don't forget to keep stirring!

Little extra note: sterilising the jars with heat also means there's less of a shock to the glass when the jam goes in, if you put hot jam into cold jars they can crack.

My mum used to put a metal spoon in the jar so the hot jam wouldn’t crack the jar, and it actually worked

Used to make my own strawberry jam years ago but need to get some new plants again. Have plum, apple, and cherry trees that I do things with though. Thanks for reminding me about strawberry jam - and I like it fairly smooth (I'm with your kids on this preference)!

I absolutely love this recipe, it's the first jam I've ever made and I'll definitely be making it again. I used pineberries since they're so close to strawberries and since I'm a major fan of sweetness and the pineberries aren't as sweet as strawberries I added just a little more sugar and it was perfect! So glad I found this video!

It looks like a simple recipe. Just a couple of suggestions for those that might read…I use a potato peeler to extract the stems so no waste like you get when you cut them off. Just slide tip if peeler under the stem and pull it out. Super simple. Also any canned knows to have a funnel to pour the ham into the jars. A canning funnel is a must. I can wait to make my jam today! Thanks for the recipe!

@@user-gj4xz8il1v Yes. There is a website for canning times and methods. Google the National Center for Home Food Preservation website. There's a section in there for Jams & jellies.. use the strawberry jelly time. Don't worry about the difference in recipes, it's about removing the air from the jar more than boiling the product.
