    good video built many dlgs best thing to do with the versus is to get the blaster 2 elevator mount and replace the balsa block and have a the full area of the elevator working for you ,makes a big difference to this dlg , the last versus which i built for someone took me around 2hrs once you have built one dlg they are all more or less the same i do like the blaster 3 really nice clean build on them ,but for launching the topsky 3 takes it i can get it to around 190ft where as the blaster only to around 160

    Great build andrew, can't wait to see it fly! Riding tiny thermal bubbles is one of the coolest things in r/c! I use an Art Hobby Elster 1.5m as a DLG (though its not designed as one) and it great fun and challenging. Go out on a calm, sunny day and you'll learn to read them :-) Find your best glide speed and keep it there, when your tail rises slightly, you're in lift. ATB!

    Satoshi Takahashi - Your comment is not appearing for some reason.
    I use a Turnigy 9X with the OpenTX firmware mod via a Smartieparts board, but any programmable transmitter with at least 4ch will work. Initially I had 4 Dymond D47 servos but the aileron ones stripped after a few hard landings so I would not recommend them for ailerons, great (and small enough to fit) for rudder and elevator but too expensive IMO. I'm now using cheapo HXT500 for ailerons and they're OK but a bit inaccurate.
    Battery has to be small enough to fit right into the nose, I use a TGY 300mAh 2S with BEC, lasts for 2 hrs.

    Thank you Andrew :-) Your video is a fantastic build log for the Versus. Ever since I discovered this great DLG, which performs well beyond expectations, I have wanted to see such a video. This video, your build log and the RCGROUPS thread makes the Versus one of the most documented DLDs available. I have found no better DLG to start with and your video helps anyone produce a very successful model for this thrilling mode of RC flying. One builder even out flew some competition flyers with it. A fantastic job you have done :-) Mal :-)

      Thanks Fred, not sure what you're asking but it sounds interesting.

  • @THEfromkentucky
    @THEfromkentucky 8 років тому

    Any thoughts on using credit cards or actual carbon fiber sheets for the tail surfaces? I know balsa is cheap, but I imagine they would be more resistant to damage.
    I'm also curious why people don't use square carbon tubes for the tail booms. Seems like they would make it easier to align the vertical and horizontal stabilizers.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  8 років тому +1

      +fromkentucky Weight, it's all about keeping the tail as light as possible. Your suggestions would be OK on a slope soarer but not a thermal glider.

    @paulkazjack 9 років тому

    I really cant see this model taking a full power launch. Has the wing snapped yet? and pod cracked?

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  9 років тому

      +paulkazjack You are probably right but any damage I have done has been due to tip strike or dropping the transmitter. The fibreglass pod is fairly weak. But thats why decent DLGs are 3 or 4 times more expensive.
