I'm 5 lbs, from the weight the surgeon expects me to be for approval for gastric sleeve. I took notes and made a list of your ideas. I'm a 67 year old? man who now is retired and going to take care self. I have since august lost 53 lbs, weighing my food and fluids with intermittent fasting and walking 3 miles every other day. I have group meeting this month then see the surgeon in january then one more appointment with dietician first week in February. Surgery should not be long after that. Been practice run on fasting days without food. On just water i can only make it 4 days before i get so week and joints hurt. I'm on day 3 fasting this week and i am going to take some health drinks that I'm suppose to take pre op. To see how i do. This will be my third attempt and i do continue all my vitamins which is like a meal in its self. I am building my self up the vitamins that usually get depleted after surgery. All my labs for these vitamins showed me center range except thiamine i was 59 numbers above normal range. I'm keeping elevated for that is one of first vitamins to get depleted. All vitamins will be held before surgery then i will take the vitamin recommended after the surgery. Thanks again for the suggestions for i have been a snoop on anything to read on this subject.
Follow up on previous post I made it through holidays loosing one pound but been a 5 to 10 lb gain in jan.and feb. Dietician giving me suggestions for my carb addiction. Only have about 1 day a week below 100 carbs a day .past 2 weeks I stopped all carbonated drinks and coffee. Drinking protein water can't say I am happy with the sodium in the drink. Recent lab showed I was low in sodium so maybe this will fix that low sodium. I see the Dietician the 22nd March and that's my last appointment. Started the health shakes was very difficult for me for the only way I can handle them is with frozen fruit that I can't have pre and post surgery. I got vegan shake powder mix for I can't handle the dairy type for my allergies to milk products. I am expecting the health drinks to be my main challenge pre and post operation. I always stall at this weight and start gaining again after dieting. I'm looking forward to use this tool to break the 275 lbs. For my weight is going back up. I figure if I can make it through 10 years as farming. 25 years factory work and 15 years as a nurse I will use the same determination for this new position as a beriactric surgery success.
I enjoyed this video and plan to put some of your suggestions in play. I was fortunate to be given a binder with tabbed inserts of info regarding progressing stages toward surgery and after at my first visit so I just added paper to write on. Great tips❤
Kaki, what a great video - quite possibly my favorite so far! You might consider doing another one at about 6 months to review the must haves vs wastes of $$ post op and again after one year. I REALLY want one of those ninja blenders and cups, though. I have to wait for a deep sale, though, because they are. not. cheap. lol I know you didnt mention it, because its probably too personal, but my biggest question has always been how will I wipe my own bum after surgery. I know..........gross right? But it is a reality that most of us overweight people struggle with even BEFORE a surgeon cuts up all your stomach muscles. We put ourselves into pretzel postures to do that now, to cut our toenails, to rinse our lady parts in the shower etc. I cant imagine how it will be post RNY. PS I got my surgery date today: April 7th will be the first day of the rest of my life!! Woot!
Congratulations on your surgery date!! You are going to be so glad you did it :-) I did not need any assistance with personal hygiene- I know what you mean- haha. I will definitely make another video with how my must haves in the future!
Thank you again, Kaki. I have a pretty strong support system at home and my friends, but just wanted to let you know, with all of your information, you're one my supporters, too.
I am approved for my revision from VSG to DS waiting for insurance pre-auth approval and scheduling 6-8 weeks out. I will be on 2 weeks liquids prior to surgery as well. Do you have a Pinterest page with the links for the broth recipes you enjoyed and any other recipes you enjoy

Thanks for all the great, honest information, Kaki. I just found your channel and started my pre-op liquids today. Would you mind dropping a link to your Pinterest board with the broth recipes?

So glad I found you! I’m day 3 of gastric sleeve. I’m doing good so far still on liquids. Tomorrow starts full liquids! Thank you for all your information you have put out.. I subscribed and look forward to continue to watch your journey!! ❤
Hey! I just found your channel. I'm just starting my journey with Erlanger in Chattanooga, and I was considering getting a notebook for notes l, so I'm glad to hear its worth it. 💛 thank you 😊
Hi! I just found your channel. This video is the first I saw. I am 12 says post-op gastric sleeve. I also have almost all the same must haves! Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. 😊
Hi Kaki, this is a great video. I agree, I didn’t need the mini waffle maker, the blender or my food processor. I do have the bluetooth scale and will order the measuring tape. I currently have the old fashioned kind. I think I’ve been eating a little too fast because from time to time I get pain so I plan on getting the mini forks and spoons. My doctor didn’t mention the calcium chews at my six weeks postop appointment so I’m gonna make a note to call him tomorrow to see if I need to get started on those. I simply adore you and your channel and you are blessed to have a beautiful circle of friends and family.
hello there - i've watched a few of your videos now, am developing a major girl crush on you, and just now subscribed to your most awesome channel! thank you. i've just been accepted into the bariatric program here where i live - at the univ. of utah - and am waiting for my first consultation. i'm nervous, excited, hesitant, hope-filled, scared, happy, and about fifty more odd and competing emotions. i love your honesty, your beautiful smiling face and...that amazing accent. may i ask where you are from? my family was from middle tennessee, but hung out a bunch in the east tennessee mountains. you sound like home. thank you so much again - xoxoxolibby
Hi there!! Glad you are enjoying the videos! It is an amazing process- hopefully things will go smoothly and quickly for you :-) I get it- I was so nervous yet so excited too! I live in Murfreesboro, just south of Nashville.
I just saw uour video and it was very informative. I am on the bench. I just did the consultation . I have to have a repair to my hianal hernia. The surgeon wants to do the bypass surgery as well. He says my bmi is 42 and it has to be 31 before he does it. So he put me on a diet.
HI Kaki - I've been watching and enjoying your journey for the past year. I'm soon to be scheduled for gastric bypass and am wanting to prep healthy broth for the freezer. Do you have a list of the recipes you used that you are willing to share? Thanks!

Was adding herbs like oregano and parsley ok during the liquid phase?
My team was fine with any spices as long as no sugar in them.
Where do you get a lot of your recipes at?
Do you have a link for the calcium chews and the vitamins that you take?

Question. Is anyone on here taking a prescription med to assist gall bladder from having an episode?
I actually asked my team about that as I read that some surgeons prescribe that for patients, but mine does not.
Where can you get the cup trays at?
I got them at Amazon.
