    I am 91 and don't play anymore but this lesson reminded me of something. As I aged I couldn't keep my left arm straight on my turn and the more bent it became the shorter my distances became. I went from being a long hitter to a cream puff. One other thing , while I was playing my equilibrium was very good , after retiring my equilibrium gradually deteriorated so play as long as you can. Don't fret your score. Tha best part of golf is playing with your buddies and having a brew.The score is not that important.

      Thanks for this. It changes my perspective and keeps it real. What important is getting out and playing. Try my best, but trying not to be discouraged by my physical changes as I've aged. I've experienced exactly what you said.

    This is the best lesson I’ve ever heard because it shows how and why you need to do this . In my opinion left arm straight is a fundamentally critical skill that forces changes down the line - this is the start of a great swing.

    I struggle so much with fat, thin and clean shots as a beginner. I have been filming myself and noticed that I was pulling up and had chicken wing. This just brought so much clarity and I just went out and hit 30 balls into a net and all but 4-5 were flushed. I can’t wait to take this swing to the range to see where the ball is going and to the course.

    I'm definitely going to try this. Thank you for this video. What if you feel like you are not flexible enough? Do I have to cut back on a full swing? Only taking the club back 3/4 of the way?

    • @PerformanceGolfZone
      @PerformanceGolfZone  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey! Yeah that can certainly be an option----shorter swing length can work like a Rahm/Finau if you have enough power that way.
      If not you could also cheat the setup closed stance and shoulders to help get more backswing length
      These may help:

    • @PerformanceGolfZone
      @PerformanceGolfZone  3 місяці тому

      Hey! I would need to see your swing to say for sure.....but you may be OVER DOING the turn...I would start there. You should be able to make roughly a 90* shoulder turn with a 45* hip turn and keep eyes on the ball no problem

  • @mrpriceisright

    excellent. Hard to even know the lead arm is folding., I was guilty. I was just now doing some half swings to practice downswing rotation/compression and it was amazing how a waist high backswing with a straight lead arm and hardly any wrist hinge could produce huge speed. (cf John Rahm). Combine this backswing with downswing rotation/compression/extension and the results are phenomenal.

  • @markberg8271
    @markberg8271 2 місяці тому +1

    Eric: great video. Wouldn't hinging the wrists earlier in the backswing, and in the proper way, be another optimal solution to the lead arm folding? That is, wouldn't a late wrist set cause folding and arm overrun **even with* the proper full turn? Thanks!

    • @PerformanceGolfZone
      @PerformanceGolfZone  2 місяці тому

      Hey Mark! It COULD.....but I haven't seen that be one-to-one for everyone.
      Heres some general guidelines on hinging amounts and times:

    Im hesitant to push with my trail arm /palm …. Seems a sound “feel” to have , but im working on keeping elbows in more to avoid possible chicken wing and right side of fairway (and right woods lol) ..now well into my 50’s ,and though ive always fought my horrendous slice , being older has made it more of a challenge for what ever reason …am heading to range in a minute .last time i figured out keeping the feeling of my trail elbow in and pointed down on backswing ,then rolling forearms with bowed(inward bow) left wrist through down swing stopped the whole hard right turns i was getting…..maybe after ive gotten comfortable with this new swing ill try this pushing away feel .ive always used my lead elbow as the gauge for my back swing ,meaning as soon as i feel it start to breakdown /bend im done going back and start downswing … as im thinking about this and typing , it may make sense and help to implement this “pushing away” feeling eventually..at worst itll help extend /stretch my turn , making me a lil more limber ….possibly 🤷🏼‍♂️😬.

    I have recently been using either a glove(or tucked shirt) under my right armpit for connection. How could i incorporate this in this technique. I've always had difficulty keeping left arm straight and fat shots. Thanks

    • @PerformanceGolfZone
      @PerformanceGolfZone  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey John....Yeah you can def do those together (I have)
      Keep the glove under armpit and but feel the trail arm wider
      Its not the easiest combo but do able (arms connected and straighter)

    EC......most appreciative for your golf instruction videos.....watching this beneficial video notice your..right elbow isn't in front of your right hip into downswing..as you have been instructing in the past...mountainous instructional videos out there state right elbow in front after last parallel before approaching impact ...a must..! Guess not. Look at Tommy Fleetwood...his right elbow so far behind is right hip during downswing its ridiculous...

      :) Something I need to watch....my shoulder get too internal and behind my pelvis sometimes for sure. That would be an issues of mine (can lead to fat shots, toe shots and some hooks)

    Does the left arm has to be fully straight or relaxed straight?

    • @PerformanceGolfZone
      @PerformanceGolfZone  Місяць тому +1

      More relaxed straight is totally good.....it doesnt have to be perfect. Some players make a more bent arm work but I wouldn't recommend it :)
