- In this video I take a look at another LARGE Retro Gaming store known as LukieGames and compare them to DKoldies. Playing devils advocate I wanted to give my unbiased thoughts on the topic that's taking the Retro Gaming scene by storm. Is DKoldies the only offender of high prices? Lets Find Out!

@@RectWizard I think what's also egregious is that DK oldies must make bank off their social media while still charging people way too much. They probably capitalize on people that don't know much about retro games who then stumble on their videos and then get railed by their prices. Lukie Games is also pretty bad 😂
Plus they take N64 for 35 then they resell them from almost 250 dollars
@@Pinsonneaultmotorsports Everything about them is anti-consumer. They hide the real prices by putting the loose disc or cosmetically flawed first, they don't include original controllers you have to pay more, and they sell used consoles as being "refurbished"

I think the difference between DK and Lukie is that DK has a weird pricing option where you can choose if you want a console/game with cosmetic issues or like new. If you choose like new they still send you something with cosmetic wear. They also don't guarantee you first party accessories and like people have shown they choose the OEM option and still was sent a third-party controller. Lukie also have pictures of the item you're buying. DK doesn't. So that's another plus for Lukie. From what I seen Lukie actually refurbish it's games and consoles, unless it's cosmetically flawed I guess refurbish is different from everyone.
DK is becoming a mainstream gaming store that could eventually set the prices for retro games across the board. That's dangerous seeing as the trading card community is currently reeling from it's price hiking shenanigans.
The third party controllers are inherently better than the original controllers though. I mean think about it for a second, you got a controller that has been beaten to a pulp for many years and sure they could refurbish some of the parts but will it ever be as good as a new controller out of the box? No! And the console makers don't sell official controllers aside from the most recent consoles out there. So yeah, theoretically the third party controller ain't as good as a new in box controller from the console maker, the fact of the matter is you can't find the latter but you can find the former!
Great point. I've been buying NES games and accessories latety and they've been more expensive than I've seen just over the past 6 months. This is of course my anecdotal account but it's still concerning and I hope it doesn't lead to crazy prices.
@@j2simpso The third party controllers are better than the originals? ...what? no they're not 😂and it's not even close. The 3rd party ones are all cheaply made weird oblong hip-gear things that *nobody* likes.
Used oem controllers in decent condition are not hard to find, and usually the only thing that might need to be replaced on them is the thumbstick. You can have a completely fine OEM controller with a $5 thumbstick repair.

Been buying from Lukie games for a few years and have no problems. Their seems to have more in stock than DK. All the games and stuff I've bought has always been under $10 😊👍
I collect for the ps2 off and on and always use Lukie games, I'd say every month for the better part of a year I payed anywhere from 30 to 40 dollars for 5 to 7 ps2 games depending on pricing.
The bulk of my collection is from Lukie Games, a handful of games under 40 bucks a month and you get your order within a week or 2.
An added benefit is you also gain Lukie points from each purchase and use the points to then get a game from their rewards selection.
Lukie needs to get that warranty point. Because they're not sending you 🗑️ like dk oldies does.

My local retro store has the same prices as DKoldies. They definitely aren't the only ones doing it.
Lukie games is great. I have used them for years. Their customer service is amazing. I owe them a giant thank you. Games are very comparative to price-charting prices. Nice web site and selection. I am in a different country and I will only get consoles in person. Shipping a console internationally has too much risk and expected overhead. How do you get the ‘Lucky’ sound from Lukie? Haha
I discovered Lukie games when I bought a couple star wars GBA games for $2 each & I thought they were awesome. I have yet to see anything else from them that I like lol
I personally have not had an issue with Lukie Games, I bough The Punisher for the OG Xbox, didnt work, they over nighted me a a new copy.
This is why I sold all my retro stuff
And invested in a good pc and started a rom library.

I bought a few games from Lukie but this was.. like 3 years or so ago. Haven't checked them out since. At that time, I saw some games being a bit overpriced but most I saw were ok priced. The ones I bought, at least, were in the either cheap or ok priced range and the bottom of the disc's were all clean/very light scratches. They probably resurface them but yea.
I remember when wiis were selling for 40 bucks all day long on the used market still can find them sometimes but crazy they are up that much

Both of these companies are terrible, but DK oldies is literally a cancer to retro gaming. When you're selling insanely high volumes of product every day, there is no excuse to be charging this kind of money. DK is successfully using social media to become a mainstream gaming store and is setting a new precedent for what people can charge for retro games. I can see these prices starting to become the new normal, and It saddens me to be priced out of my childhood passion and see it become a soulless speculative investment market. (worse than it already is)
Deny them your money, they're scum. Invest in flashcarts, ODEs, or learn to emulate.
@@slamshift6927 Oh yes I emulate everything these days. I've been using Retroarch to play everything from NES to Dreamcast. I had to sell most of my games a few years ago for financial reasons, now I just have a small shelf with my original childhood SNES Genesis and N64 games. That small shelf of games means way more to me than back in 2008 when I had 3 bookshelves full of games. I stopped giving resellers my money a long time ago.
@@gremlin5813 I sold a Demon's Crest and Chrono Trigger cart specifically to get an SD2SNES. I have replaced the optical drives in my PlayStation, Saturn, GameCube and Dreamcast with SD card boards. I am beyond over paying premium prices for used games

I’ve bought consoles and games from both sites. I’ve only bought games from DK if Lukie didn’t have what I wanted. DK has always sent me stuff that looks like it was scraped along a gutter before packed for shipment. Lukie has always been good to me. Flawless games and consoles with no issues.
What's funny to me is that brand new, when I was able to get some of the consoles, I (or my parents) paid less than what they are now. Games on the other hand were anywhere from 40-80 dollars and now only the most rare games are expensive.
I ran across them on eBay and bought a PS2 game (Wrath Unleashed... I think I loaned my other copy..) it's not terribly rare or valuable, but Lukie's price was quite good and the disc was immaculate (along with the case.) I have bought mostly games from them, but only when they're SUPER reasonably priced. I've pretty much collected all the retro games I need (that aren't ultra-expensive), but once in a while I look for a PS1 game I see reviewed. :)
Seeing all the DKoldies exposure I knew lukie games had a similar website layout and was always curious on what they're prices were compared to DK since I have bought some PS2 games in the past from lukie games and I was always too lazy to check myself lol glad this guy had the thought
I feel like for PS2s, original Xboxs and Wiis especially, just find one at a thrift store. You can get them for under $50, sometimes for even $20. A lot of them are in fair condition as well.
Yeah I got a ps2 a week ago MINT condition from a local used game store for $60. Even gave me 60% value on shadow the hedgehog

I got my OG xbox for Christmas one year and it came with the OG Duke controller for like $50-$60 bucks at a place called Half Price Books. No games though but it was pretty good deal.

Love your videos man! just thinking.... do you think LukieGames and DKoldies is one and the same?! their pages look the same, the packages are almost the same, they both show a sale price with a line through it, so if they dont sell on one site, its ok because the other site will sell it? hence the different prices on the same item?

They're exactly the same they both have high prices and rip you off with broken faulty product
slight error when comparing the ps1 is that Lukie came with an analog controller whereas DKoldies did not offer an analog controller and was just a cheapo controller. DK does sell the analog dualshocks for 32, which is the same price on Lukie. In all there's a difference of 5 bucks.
Great video! I wish more people could see this that doesn’t know any better about pricing, because at the end of the day these games are old and you should not be paying for a retro game for the same price as a ps5 or Xbox series lol. Please check eBay and mercari first! And compare prices
I am just happy that I live in the UK and we have CEX who provides 24 months warranty and really amazing price on their products!!
Estarland is also pretty comparable. I have ordered many times from The Netherlands from Lukiegames, a few times on Estarland and once on DK Oldies. All were reliable. A big advantage compared to eBay for me, ordering from outside the US is that I can more easily make a big order and save a lot on very expensive shipping and import charges. Comparing store prices to consumers selling stuff online is a bit iffy.
There’s a big difference between a “scam” and a “rip-off.” DKO might be a rip-off, but there’s no scam; they’re just overpriced. And frankly, I’ve never understood people who lose their shit over sellers (whether individuals or businesses) who overprice their merchandise. There’s a REALLY simple solution: don’t give them your business. Consumers can and will ultimately dictate the direction of the market. If no one buys their stuff, they’ll be forced to lower their prices or go out of business.
I was looking on lukie game a few times in last years. I do notice they always have a sale going on. What I also notice which took me back by surprise is GameCube games has gone up insanely high. I would like to rebuy it again for childhood days for my own kids but wow. Same for gameboy never had one always wanted one those games.. I only see some what okay price is play station side some games r still high but not too bad.

So just a few days ago I made a purchase of a couple games from DK that were admittedly good deals on their site( not any console because those prices are just ridiculous). Email says all the items had shipped and then the next day after shipping I get another email saying sorry one of the games wasn’t available and didn’t ship. However this is where the shadiness happens, instead of issuing a refund of the amount of the game back to my card they give me store credit. I am a first time buyer from them, and I have never had any place online try to give me store credit for something they could not honor. Just really sketchy. I asked to refund the money back to my card so we shall see what happens. Regardless though I’m prolly not gonna be a repeat customer after that initial experience.
Update: they did respond to me and promptly refunded the money to my bank account. Still weird that they initially issue an in store credit as refund.
yeah its crazy how they rank up the prices like that about a week ago i just got Mario 64 and the price was spot on with tax in all $50 not too bad but i would never pay over price sale unless i really wanted it but for the right price been playing games since the mid 80s and seen how everything has gone up over the years it blows my mind lol
I'm not sure how it is now but I'm pretty sure I've bought NES games from lukiegames back in the day on ebay. At the time it was kind of a mixed bag, they had OK prices on games that most people don't care about but definitely a lot of overpriced stuff also. Honestly I feel the same way about them as I do about my local retro game shops. A lot of the stuff is absolutely insanely priced compared to the market, but once in a while you might find a decently priced game.
From what I see here tho there's some kinda crazy prices. Reminds me of my local retro shop charging like 150 bucks for a gamecube with game boy player (with no startup disc).

I bought 3 Ds games from Lukie. I got Code S.T.E.A.M, Yo Kai Watch and Mario Luigi inside Bowsers story for under 55 usd, they are in great quality and I paid a couple of dollars more for the boxes. I got to say that I was impressed.
hopefully in the future we get a fair and honest website that is dedicated to retro games. I would buy so much if it was reasonably priced like eBay.
Just subbed to the Channel bro. I absolutely love your input on this situation. I've always felt DK Oldies prices were outrageous. I remember Lukie games some years ago having much fairer prices but it seems they massively increased their prices over time.

The problem isn’t price gouging - not in the traditional sense of the term anyway - the problem is DKO is saying they’re refurbishing these retro consoles; dusting (throughout), replacing thermal paste etc, which would justify a premium price (in my opinion), however, as many videos have shown, they DO NOT REFURBISH AT ALL!

I bought bubble bobble on nes from lukie games and when I put it in the nes the game is ice hockey. Someone obviously switched out the board and it wasn’t tested before it was sent out to me.
$140 for a PSX, that will suffer laser failure likely within a year of purchase...
When I can get clean PSOnes for $30 all day long on eBay
They actually live in my hometown Lukie Games they're actually based off here in Miami Florida I think they live a hour away from my house I think their store is Miami Gardens and I think they just have a warehouse I have bought from them before and they're not that bad

Lukie surprised me, I bought a $99 N64 and it was mint and included an OEM Power supply and OEM AV cable. DK loves knock off cables. I have bought from both and Lukie is generally cheaper but typically Ebay is usually cheaper for games. Shop around
Whenever possible I order from Estarland because I really like the service from them. I only order from LukieGames if they have something in stock that I really want, and it is not available at Estarland.
My experience with lukie games was terrible I was sent a broken 360 e and og xbox San Andreas even my replacement was busted

Last year I bought a Wii from a local retro store for $60. With an official Wii remote and a third party Nunchuck. That was pretty good deal, especially after I modded the Wii.
Now with these retro place becoming mainstream, it's gonna result in other local places spiking their prices too to compete with it and try to swindle people as well. This whole situation is fucked.

All these prices are a joke. At the store I work at we sell Wiis and GameCubes regardless of color for $50. If they are CIB we even sell those less than what price charting recommends.
@RadHazy There is Disc Traders, Disc Replay, and Mega Replay. They are all the same but had to use different names in different areas for one reason or another.
They are mostly in the Midwest
I trust Lukie Games with actual gams. WOuld never buy a system. I buy systems from my local game shop 9 miles away.

No wonder my console came jacked I didn't pay in the 200s range they have different grades of console depending on price.
I find it insane watching this video and comparing how much I paid for these things. When I saw 150 and 110 for doubledash I had to rewatch twice just to make sure I was not seeing things wrong. I bought my bonus disc copy fully functional (granted with a bonus disc with some front side scratches) for 54 bucks. CIB. Half of Lukie, almost a third of DKOldies’s price. I’m late to this video, but yeah these guys price gouge hard.
Refurbishing aside. The main reason things are cheaper on eBay is because most of these game stores have a lot of overhead (not our problem). The stores also give you a warranty which individuals will not (I don't care but, some may want a little piece of mind). Anyway, if you think these consoles and games are a rip off now, you're gonna hate how much they will cost in a few years. They're not gonna get any cheaper, only more expensive.
I'm just gonna throw this out there, but on lukie games site there's different but accurate description of products cosmetically flawed and good condition just something I noticed
About 5 yrs ago I purchased some uncommon ps1 and 2 games for a online store Estarland the prices were very reasonable. Idk about today tho ?

I had a bad shopping experience with Lukie games. Bought a retro game that was advertised to be in "good" condition. It was not. There was stickers all over the label/cart and the game would not work until I cleaned it. It was an expensive game as well.. I ripped them a new one, and told them they better give me a refund. Their item descriptions are misleading, at the very least. Buyer beware. Never shopped at DK oldies though, because their reputation proceeds them..
Time is money man u can go to garage sales and try and come up on a gem of a game for 50 cents but if u didnt save ur games as a kid ur gonna be paying pretty pennies to get that collection back in today time and thats just how it is

My first order from lukies was a 500$ ps3 fat that was apsolutly disgusting with broken pieces floating around inside. They refunded. Sense then iv bought a ton of games from lukies and 85-90% have been perfect. They had 1 ps3 in stock same model and would not hold it until receiving the broken one to right the wrong they did. Of course it was out of stock when they got the broken ps3 so I went to ebay.

Ebay ripped me off for 570 dollars in 3 broken consoles 2 360 slim and a og xbox i always get ripped off for consoles on ebay I went to 3 different salesmen I got 3 broken consoles sitting in my room any good retro game store suggestions

Lukie Games is fantastic. Mostly good prices and with points you get from purchases, I got SMB All Stars free. (Don’t work for them, I just use them a lot)
Thank you for making these videos. Lukiegames is just as bad. I don't understand why people cannot just buy from Ebay or Mercari. You get buyer protection and it's so much cheaper.
Ebay is bad 2 I spent 570 on a used 360 slim that freezes after an. Hour of gameplay a og xbox that had a broken controller and cd tray that gets stuck with a leading clock capacitor a 360 slim that quit working in 3 months the laser went out they lied told me it was open box condition I got 3 broken consoles sitting in my room

You play for the simplicity of ordering everything at the same place.
However the prices the sell for are extremly high and the prices i heard they paying is really low.
Is this the only way to keep a retro store going? i just can't tell what kinds of cost they have to pay to stay profitable so it's also hard for me to have a real opinion here.

If you just look at the consoles and accessories then you are in the range of rip-offs, but when looking through the games you might find the deals worth buying.
exactly. any time i am purchasing a game ill always browse Lukie. I have caught them slipping on some higher priced games (compared to pricecharting) and ended up buying them from Lukie. With a warranty and free shipping they beat ebay on certain games. Just need to shop around.
They all have a 1 year warranty but only a 90 day no questions asked return policy. So i assume if you change your mind or something?

No expansion pack should ever be 60 bucks, I have one and they aren’t worth it lol.

They are all a rip off I can buy 5 PS2 for the price of one from them shops. And what are the chances of buying 5 consoles don’t work I’ve been claimed to be working. Then on top of it, you get controllers memory cards games and if none of that does work you can just sell it back on and you’re getting your money back still

Not trying to be overly critical, but when the general argument is around the quality of the product received, is it really fair for you to call it a deep dive if you didn't purchase anything? I would imagine a deep dive would be two n64s, side by side, opened up.
