Lexie was my top pick since ep1 and I'm 100% sure that she could have easily made it if she didnt decide to leave. Also she did the right thing, I would have done the same given the circumstances, giant moral integrity
My favourites all the way through were Yoonchae and Megan, and then I really loved Lara by the end and Ezrela was my girl even though I kind of knew deep down that she probably wasn't the right fit for this specific group. Also I found out in my notes app that I actually ranked the girls while I was following the survival show so that I knew who to vote for, and I pretty much predicted the group 😭

@@jasminezade omg okkk, idk what to recommend though, that's the problem with skz they have too many good songs to choose some from, so I'm just gonna list some:- - for hard hitting (the signature skz sound) songs: God's menu, thunderous, maniac, s-class, miroh, lalalala, chk chk boom - for some hiphopie songs: megaverse, mountains, hall of fame, topline, venom, slash (deadpool ost), all my life stray kids remix (lil durk), item, muddy water - for more calm/ballad songs: twilight, leave, cover me, slump japanese version - and if you want some cunty songs (although theyre from units): red lights, taste trust me narrowing down the songs this much was harder than giving birth but if you want one definite song that will be good no matter what then I recommend God's menu, because I personally wasnt that open to kpop before I was one of the "hater"s lol, I went from 1d and louis to stray kids with just one listen to gods menu, thats how good the song is. + let me know if you ever wanna dive more into skz (you can use me as wikipedia), skz also came from a survival show, however, theirs was a bit different, skz itself is a unique group and so was their show, so you know how other survival shows are trainees competing against each other to be chosen ny the public+producers to make it into the debut line up, but with skz the line up was already chosen, how you ask, so the company jype had chose the groups leader before the group itself and entrusted him for groups members selection, balance and etc... so the leader (bangchan) personally handpicked each member, and then they started the survival show to get evaluated as a group and individually, the goal was to see if they were ready to debut, the show was them doing some missions like creating original songs coming up with choreo and stuff, it was fun and low budget, not many people know this but the reason for the low budget from a big company like jype was that skz was an experimental group for them they didnt expect them to make it big, they just wanted to see what will happen if they debuted a group fully self made, literally (self produced, self composed, self written and etc...), so its an interesting show. hope you enjoy one of them (the day I recieve the notif to a video from you about skz will be the day I can die happily😭)
I think where the whole concept of this project went wrong is that they only focused on the music and dancing part of the girl group when they should of really made an emphasis on acting during the training process and challenges so they could then proceed to make a television show around the girls who made it into the group (kind of like big time rush) where we start the first episode off with someone who is new to the school rushing late to the school hall where the girl group of the school is about to perform at the assembly and then maybe an idea is we see during the performance that the girls are having issues and they then cancel the performance mid show and from there on the schools girl group members all quit which now means there’s a whole new girl group to be made before some big end of year thing and we see all the girls through the first season all auditioning and trying to get in the group where the finale ends on the big end of year school performance or something with the newly established pop star academy group Katseye and we also get other characters from the school in different social groups take a chance and try out to be in the group and even ones who don’t make the group they are all still apart of the cast. In season 2 there could be a whole plot where now that Katseye has been formed by the school we then get a fringe group of girls start their own unofficial girl group in the school where there’s a whole rivalry between the groups. Like imagine there’s so much drama and fear around auditioning for the group at the school against Katseye so you’ve got girls trying to recruit others from unlikely places and groups imagine there’s a whole plot of not going into the bush at the edge of the sports field but there’s a character who has a secret set up in there and could even become a place they secretly practice. Debut is the theme song Boarding school setting so it can also make a perfect setting for specials like Christmas and Halloween.
Yeah no I don't agree with the people who said it didn't want them to see explore the group after. I'm not a KPop stand and I stand them now because of the documentary, like I found out about them because it was recommend on Netflix. I was excited to see what became of them after the programe, even if it's for hate ppl would still want to see what happened.
As someone who followed the whole Dream Academy show and situation from the beginning and voted/consumed content while it was happening, I can say personally that it was very easy to be blind about the girls' personality, potential and relationships when all you have is performances and visuals. Watching the documentary, I felt so guilty for the way I had viewed girls like Emily and Adela as simply not good enough, when they are so much more than that. And I think that was deliberate, but I also think it sucked. We got a very one-dimensional representation of the girls compared to all the context the docu gives, and so I simply voted for who I thought was the best at singing, dancing and being charming without any knowledge of dynamics, friendships, personality, tensions etc. It was pretty brutal and superficial on the whole, and despite not knowing the girls well I still got emotional every time one got eliminated, and I was very upset by the ending of the live show. It all felt so cruel, and I can understand why Lexie left. And like maybe, *maybe* it would have been okay if they had known about the show from the get-go so they wouldn't have gotten so close only to be torn apart, but I think (unfortunately) it did actually benefit the group in the long run because they had way better group chemistry, being so close and all
Love katseye but given that they are associated with hybe I really hope they arent in a bad record deal and no harm comes to them. That company has been showing its true colors lately with what they are doing to newjeans. Would be a good Segway into the cons of the kpop industry especially when it comes to minors.
what has they been doing to newjeans? newjeans as rookies get paid millions and live in luxury complex apartment that even the most successful groups can't afford. yet they're demanding hybe to bring back a person who literally tried to destroy their company and is being sued for bunch of white collar crimes (and covering up a sexual assault case), simply because the said person was their main creative director and they know they're nothing without her.
Seeing the success of the show,we might get a S2 but the boys version ? I hope so!!! I also see Western labels try to use the same method to create groups soon.
A big part of k-pop group branding is the idea that the group members are family. Trainees can be together for years fighting to debut with their fellow members, so when they do debut it feels like a collective victory that they get to share with their fans. That’s my biggest fear for Katseye, because they were created in such a hostile environment the idea that they’re suddenly all family just feels inauthentic (even if they are really close irl).
ALSO you should definitely check out XG, they’re a global girl group (Japanese members, based in Korea, singing in English and marketing themselves globally) and they have a documentary about how they were created on UA-cam. They’re insanely talented as well.
Manon wasn't the only inexperienced girl there, a few of them were like her experience wise. I believe the girls were frustrated and felt disrespected that she was getting so much attention meanwhile she wasn't a team player or putting in any effort, which is completely valid. The only other girl not showing up was Lexi, but it seemed like she expressed she didn't want to be in the program anymore, they didn't let her leave, so she stayed away until they had to call her in. Personally, I really like all the girls and Katseye, and they seem to be forming a bond with each other
You should check out Dear Alice. They are an upcoming British boy group from SM Entertainment and are currently have a survival show called Made In Korea. The songs they have teased some songs and it's giving 1D.
i was interested in seeing the show but i think the episodes are geo-restricted by the bbc 😭that's one good thing about the katseye documentary it's on a global platform which makes sense for a global girl group . I'll keep an eye out for this group though, there hasn't been a really successful western boy group since 1D
Great video!!!! I love KATSEYE but i am one of thoes people who are a bit afraid they wont be a successful as i want them to be, so far with SIS put i feel like they could very easily fade in the background with similar sounds of groups like NewJeans or Illit i hope they get more songs like Debut or lean into the girls orgins ld love to hear a Latin beat like Smart by le sserafim or a straight up Bollywood inspired song to help them reach global fanbases as opposed to mainly kpop fans
as a dancer, i actually felt that emily lacked texture in her dancing. she’s a powerhouse but it’s hard to keep attention on her if every single move is equally snappy & powerful. my dance coaches call it the milk & sprite of dancing. and emily was all sprite, no milk. i dont think she wouldve worked as a pop star at this current point. just my opinion tho.
@@cerbzzz7147 ua’s lines arent as clean as emily’s. ua has cleaner angles. but utilizes less dimensions when she presents those angles (less visually interesting). she sometimes dances at the back of the beat (allows for more time between moves for audience to absorb her expressions) whereas emily attacks the beat for more impact. and both of them could work on texturizing their performance style i think ua’s dance style would be more suited for a girl group where everyone must blend in during certain parts of choreo. but her vocals suffer while dancing. so i can see why she didnt make it/isnt ready to debut

I know exactly what you mean about the show seeming kind of pointless. It seemed like it was edited in a way that just... assumed that the viewer had experienced the survival show?? Which was not the case for a large portion of the audience, so I think there must have been some miscalculations there. Also if you only watch the Netflix show without watching the actual Missions, you are obviously gonna have a negative view of contestants like Manon because all the show focuses on with her is the drama around her, not her talent (which is very obvious from her performances).
Hot take: Manon did, in fact, get in with a "pretty privilege", but 'visual' is a well known Kpop position. It's an acceptance of the superficiality of the general public. No shade. But laziness I cannot abide.

I get what you mean like the lyrics could be kinda better but honestly as a like music , vibe person I don’t really mind the lyrics not being extraordinary (I love my way lyrics they are really good imo )
sounds like kpop lyrics lmao
@@eyekonssxd yes my way is super cute
Lexie was my top pick since ep1 and I'm 100% sure that she could have easily made it if she didnt decide to leave. Also she did the right thing, I would have done the same given the circumstances, giant moral integrity
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
My favourites all the way through were Yoonchae and Megan, and then I really loved Lara by the end and Ezrela was my girl even though I kind of knew deep down that she probably wasn't the right fit for this specific group. Also I found out in my notes app that I actually ranked the girls while I was following the survival show so that I knew who to vote for, and I pretty much predicted the group 😭
I really enjoy this type of documentary it's so up my alley and I wish there were more of them. I know in K-pop there are some, but it's a bit difficult for me to feel immersed in it cause subtitles don't catch everything 😅
I'm only 5 minutes into this video so far but I already liked and subscribed because I'm obsessed with you already LOL it's like a mix of a youtube video essay but also feels like we're gossiping on facetime, idk how to explain it but yea love itttt
The documentary felt less about Katseye and more about the process and the dream academy, so they can do this again. It also seems like the point of the show was to make people fall in love with Emily, Ezrela, Samara, and maybe even Lexie to create a second group for the label. Regardless I'm seated for Katseye.
if people watch their lives on weverse omg they are so unfiltered BAHAHA i love katseye so much and being a part of their fandom even if you don’t like k-pop is so much fun! alsooo they sold out their tickets in korea and philippines so far!! so happy for the girlsss
have you heard that simon cowell is trying to make a Netflix documentary trying to make a boyband now 😭
Omg haven’t seen you since the pitfalls of girl group stardom and I’ve been following Katseye since before dream academy worlds colliding
As some ppl have already said, I would really recommend u to watch boys planet and kingdom legendary war, definitely 2 of my fave survival shows.
you need to check out the british girl group ‘Say Now’ next !!
Gurlll mee, since I saw the show im literally breathing Katseye content, like idk if hybe made a deal with the devil or something, but I’m obsessed with them
Their are just industry plant
@@sofypi7493Not saying you’re wrong, but almost all the big western artists now are backed by huge industry giants as well. Very hard for independent artists to survive in the US music industry. Personally its not an issue for me, i just want fun pop gurls that can PERFORM for their life. I’m sure once they stabilise their brand, they will have more artistic freedom just going off how Hybe manages their artists releasing solo projects while in the group.A collective slay
Sameee
@@sofypi7493I knooo, but like this stuff doesn't usually caught my attention idk why i'm so drawn into them, i don't even like kpop or girls group, they def made some kind of satanic shit and i'm here for it
you should definitely watch the XG Documentary its soooo good
I definitely think they have the potential to make it really big globally. Like I'd say a good amount of my Eyecon mutuals on Twitter are non-kpop stans and I've seen them put their other mutuals onto Katseye, so yeah, I think they can grow thru word of mouth. I've also heard my sister listening to them and the only Kpop related thing she's ever been interested in is Jennie from Blackpink, so to me that's kind of a good sign lol.
I liked Emily too, voted for her during dream academy but the group wont be balanced with 3 good dancers because Dani and Megan are already good at that so picking Yoonchae for me was perfect aside from the fact that Hybe will debut a korean because its still a kpop company. I liked Nayoung over Yoonchae during the show but it is what is. As for Manon, im ok with her. I see why she's picked but I'd still pick Samara over her or Ezrela
I’ve been waiting for this one!!!
Amazing overview,I enjoyed it.❤❤
I had barely heard of Katseye and def not the documentary and this video had me RIVETED! Imma go listen to their music now 😅
i actually know absolutely nothing about this so i’m excited for you to give me the tea
Hope you'll check out Made In Korea The Kpop experience which is the same as pop star academy but focusing on boys from britain training at sm ent the biggest kpop agency in order to debut as dear alice. highly recommend their predebut songs vibes and solar because they are such a bright and fun sound missing in boy group music.
6:36 vcha get off the floor
stans and their inability to praise their favs without putting others down
Insufferable
Heeeelp not my faves! JYPE fault for being dodoo 😭
@@emmaaavx9254 i’m a fan of vcha everyone (the companies, the fans, even jasmine) is talking like katseye is the first of it’s kind when other groups have done this before them

Unrelated but I love your gingham top where is it from😭
I needed this! Every take was spot on! I love your videos and Katseye ❤😊
unrelated but girl I'm WAITING for you to get into stray kids (I've been waiting for years 😭)
omg gimme song recommendations
@@jasminezadeYass stray kids are insane.
I'll also recommend 1 song from a couple of different genres they've done:
For pop: I like it
For edm: miroh
Rock vibes: social path ft Lisa
Chill/rnb: twilight
Hip-hop/rap: megaverse
Bonus category:
Classic stray kids song: jjam
@@jasminezade omg okkk, idk what to recommend though, that's the problem with skz they have too many good songs to choose some from, so I'm just gonna list some:-
- for hard hitting (the signature skz sound) songs: God's menu, thunderous, maniac, s-class, miroh, lalalala, chk chk boom
- for some hiphopie songs: megaverse, mountains, hall of fame, topline, venom, slash (deadpool ost), all my life stray kids remix (lil durk), item, muddy water
- for more calm/ballad songs: twilight, leave, cover me, slump japanese version
- and if you want some cunty songs (although theyre from units): red lights, taste
trust me narrowing down the songs this much was harder than giving birth but if you want one definite song that will be good no matter what then I recommend God's menu, because I personally wasnt that open to kpop before I was one of the "hater"s lol, I went from 1d and louis to stray kids with just one listen to gods menu, thats how good the song is.
+ let me know if you ever wanna dive more into skz (you can use me as wikipedia), skz also came from a survival show, however, theirs was a bit different, skz itself is a unique group and so was their show, so you know how other survival shows are trainees competing against each other to be chosen ny the public+producers to make it into the debut line up, but with skz the line up was already chosen, how you ask, so the company jype had chose the groups leader before the group itself and entrusted him for groups members selection, balance and etc... so the leader (bangchan) personally handpicked each member, and then they started the survival show to get evaluated as a group and individually, the goal was to see if they were ready to debut, the show was them doing some missions like creating original songs coming up with choreo and stuff, it was fun and low budget, not many people know this but the reason for the low budget from a big company like jype was that skz was an experimental group for them they didnt expect them to make it big, they just wanted to see what will happen if they debuted a group fully self made, literally (self produced, self composed, self written and etc...), so its an interesting show.
hope you enjoy one of them (the day I recieve the notif to a video from you about skz will be the day I can die happily😭)
i missed seeing you on my recommended 😭!
Ooo this makeup hunny
i’ve been waiting for this since i finished the show😭
Competition is a part of it.
Haven’t watched the documentary or heard of the girls before but if Jas is into it then I’ll def check them out!!
Oh if you gotta do girls planet 999 and universe ticket… augh so good
I think where the whole concept of this project went wrong is that they only focused on the music and dancing part of the girl group when they should of really made an emphasis on acting during the training process and challenges so they could then proceed to make a television show around the girls who made it into the group (kind of like big time rush) where we start the first episode off with someone who is new to the school rushing late to the school hall where the girl group of the school is about to perform at the assembly and then maybe an idea is we see during the performance that the girls are having issues and they then cancel the performance mid show and from there on the schools girl group members all quit which now means there’s a whole new girl group to be made before some big end of year thing and we see all the girls through the first season all auditioning and trying to get in the group where the finale ends on the big end of year school performance or something with the newly established pop star academy group Katseye and we also get other characters from the school in different social groups take a chance and try out to be in the group and even ones who don’t make the group they are all still apart of the cast.
Debut is the theme song
Boarding school setting so it can also make a perfect setting for specials like Christmas and Halloween.
I was waiting to see if you’d do a video on them!!
my way is my favorite from them so far
Yeah no I don't agree with the people who said it didn't want them to see explore the group after. I'm not a KPop stand and I stand them now because of the documentary, like I found out about them because it was recommend on Netflix. I was excited to see what became of them after the programe, even if it's for hate ppl would still want to see what happened.
I think katseye will be big, it’s just too early to tell but they’re on their way to 10 million listeners in Spotify so
As someone who followed the whole Dream Academy show and situation from the beginning and voted/consumed content while it was happening, I can say personally that it was very easy to be blind about the girls' personality, potential and relationships when all you have is performances and visuals.
And like maybe, *maybe* it would have been okay if they had known about the show from the get-go so they wouldn't have gotten so close only to be torn apart, but I think (unfortunately) it did actually benefit the group in the long run because they had way better group chemistry, being so close and all
YAAASS so excited to watch!
I'm pretty sure that was a set up cause the execs love drama!
Personally, I really like all the girls and Katseye, and they seem to be forming a bond with each other
Hm? I thought the doc made it VERY clear that the producers loved Adela. She was #1 in ranks. That's why everyone said fans vote on looks
girl we’re literally twins for the fact we went in blind only knowing manon was in. daniella was a fave of mine from day one as well!!
OH I AM SAT FOR THIS AHHHH
As soon as I saw ep1 from the docu i knew Daniela was going to be a star
Well if u wanna watch a good survival show DONT watch R U Next lmao
What did u think of ua's dancing? Since the doc said she's second after Emily
@@cerbzzz7147 ua’s lines arent as clean as emily’s. ua has cleaner angles. but utilizes less dimensions when she presents those angles (less visually interesting). she sometimes dances at the back of the beat (allows for more time between moves for audience to absorb her expressions) whereas emily attacks the beat for more impact.
and both of them could work on texturizing their performance style
i think ua’s dance style would be more suited for a girl group where everyone must blend in during certain parts of choreo.
but her vocals suffer while dancing. so i can see why she didnt make it/isnt ready to debut
You should check out SWEET REVENGE! They are a newly debuted global girl group from Japanese ent company LDH. Their debut song "MIGHT JUST" is really good.
oh they have a new girl group?! I hadn't heard about them even though I follow some other LDH groups, like generations, ballistik boyz, fantastics and Psychic Fever - I'll check them out!
@@Diana-ch8cv yeah LDH isn’t very good at promoting their girl groups 😭

@@macaronicheese.z i really like the song, but I wish the music video had a part were all the girls were dancing and singing in person together (not just through the anime avatars), especially because the choreo in the dance practice video was good! @@macaronicheese.z also i knew about f5ve, but I totally missed that LDH had a new group with Sweet Revenge (I may just be dumb and missed it at the time because now I remember that they did do some dance shorts with members of Psyfe 😅)

I'm kind of curious is that Ashe album behind you ??
Have u watched other survival shows???
Have you seen A2K and VCHA?
