    I tried to replace the rope in the woods with mosquitoes all over me. I thought it was a 10 minute job. Glad I found your video today because I became nearly insane after this experience. Thanks.

    Wow you did sooooooo much extra work all you have to do is take main cover off battery out control panel and it's slides right it no reason at all to take apart the frame

    Thanks for the video. I have one of these in Africa and the pull cord stuck and didn't go back in. I was surprised to see that someone had a video showing how to get to the recoil housing. Very helpful.

    Great video. I had to modify slightly and take the starter out though the area in front with just the face plate with the plugs removed because I couldn't get those bottom bolts removed from that bottom base plate because they were rusted solid. The toughest part was like you said getting everything back together. After installing a new starter rope the recoil starter kept binding until I realized the center bolt and washers and that white fan wheel have to be perfectly centered or it'll bind not allowing the recoil rope to be pulled properly or at least o t worked once I centered everything. Took disassembling multiple times before I figured tuat would work.

      What a pain in the butt, right? I once came across the same problem with the recoil. It was hard to pull and the starter was cranking slow, too slow to make spark. Removed the recoil / starter assy. Disassembled it and couldn't find anything wrong. Reassembled it and it was pulling fine. Put the generator back together and it was binding again. Repeated this whole process 3 times before I decided to get a new recoil assembly. On those 3 bolts... I there are 2 different versions of the inverter. The one in the video is the smaller version. You can reach all 3 lower bolts. The eu3000 generators with the larger inverter has one of the bolts hidden because the larger inverter is covering it. You have to remove the inverter to get to the 1 bolt.

      It definitely wasn't built for serviceability. Just when you think you got this part off, there's one more screw hidden behind another part. And to get that part off, you have to remove this other part, x10 more layers of more parts. The only thing I've see worse is a Ford Powerstroke engine.

    I'm glad I declined a rooftop repair on one of these. That's a nasty piece of work getting down to the recoil, only to find that the center bolt stripped out of the plastic housing and destroyed everything it touched...

    Can you do a video on breaking down the recoil assembly and putting in new cord. I have tried numerous times and the pawls don't engage and the center holding shaft keeps locking down when cord is pulled. You saved me from a nightmare with getting to this part with your great video, but cannot fix the root problem of getting the recoil back after adding new cord. Thank you.

      Hello David. If I had another generator to fix I'd make a video of that but I can tell you this... I've tried to fix the recoil mechanism on 2 of these only to eventually replace the whole assembly. They weren't being repaired for broken cords. Both of them kept binding, making the cord hard to pull. Also, it was dragging the starter. So, they cranked slow, as if the battery was low. After I reassembled the recoil and installed it. Everything worked fine. Once I put all the covers back on and tested them, they were dragging again! If you google your model number and "recoil diagram", there are lots of diagrams on the interweb. Unfortunately, they're drawings, not real pictures. Everything looks like a washer.

    WHAT A FU*KING NIGHTMARE! I'M GLAD TO SEE A LOT OF "OPEN FRAME INVERTER" GENERATORS BECOMING AVAILABLE. I'D LIKE TO SEE HONDA COME OUT WITH AN ELECTRIC START OPEN FRAME INVERTER. IN 2017 I BOUGHT THE "EM4000SX". I ALMOST GOT THE "EU3000IS". I DID NOT LIKE THE DESIGN OF THE CRAPY PLASTIC STARTER AND STARTER ASSEMBLY, LOOKS WEAK. I GET 16 HRS. OUT OF THE 6.2 GAL. TANK AT 50% LOAD. THAT'S NOT TOO BAD FOR A NON-INVERTER. GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY.

      Hello Raul. I was surprised as well the first time I did it. I though, no big deal. You open up a side cover and remove a few bolts. Wrong. But after you've done it a few times, it doesn't take very long.

    Is there a way to install electric start on non electric start model. Like can i just install the starter motor and have a monetary switch and battery to start the engine. I don't need the generator to charge the battery cus it would be on a charger anyways

    Hi , I have the same type of generator but mine is Honda em25 (2.3kw, 220v) cycloconverter generator but I got it without electronics (module and front panel), just engine with flywheel (drum) and coils inside . Is there any ways to bypass all of that and make it run ? Just to make engine running , I don't need current . Or any modifications regarding , Thanks

  • @WilliamsonGene

    The pull rope on mine was broken and when I fixed it, the noise and racket it made had me thinking something was wrong. Going by the parts diagram- which seems to be totally wrong because it won't work like they show it going back together. And I can't find a Service Manual diagram or anything that shows the correct way. The ratchet guide & friction spring are turned backwards in the picture.

    • @redneckoriental
      @redneckoriental  3 роки тому +1

      You shouldn't have to disassemble the recoil assembly to replace the cord. I just wind them intact. I did have to take this one apart though and I also had a problem with the parts diagram. There was an extra washer in there that wasn't showing in the diagram. The pull start was dragging. I disassembled, inspected, lubed and reassembled and it was no longer dragging. As soon as I put everything back together, it was dragging again. I did all this 3 times. My brain started hurting. So, I gave up. Decided to replace the assembly for around $150.

    • @WilliamsonGene
      @WilliamsonGene 3 роки тому +1

      @@redneckoriental I can understand buying a new one because when I fixed the cord the dragging noise never really went away and that's when I disassembled it and cleaned everything. Then I had to figure out where the ratchet guide & friction spring won't work as shown. Finally I deduced that noise is normal with a couple hard plastic gears so I didn't add grease or lube. It's just 2 really noisy but very clean gears and they don't get used much.. one pull starts it. Now the little throttle motor needs replaced I think. Guess I need to make a video.. lol

    Quick question and I appreciate any feedback.
    So my reason for changing my starter in the first place was because the when attempting to start it would rattle/crank and not turn over.
    I ordered one online (Honda genuine part) and was happy to see it working again.
    Fast forward 1 month, it’s doing the rattle sound again and won’t start.
    Do you think the starters could go bad that often or do you recommend checking something else prior to the starter?
    Thank you!

    • @redneckoriental
      @redneckoriental  2 роки тому +1

      Try the pull start. Is it harder to pull than normal? If it is, there's probably resistance in the starting mechanism that's making the starter motor work too hard. I've come across something like this before. I thought maybe the starter was just a little slow cranking, as if the battery was undercharged or not putting out full cranking amps. Put in a fresh battery and it didn't change. Figured it was normal until I had another EU3000 next to it and compared how much faster it cranked and how much more easily it was to pull start.

      @@redneckoriental hey! you know I never got notified on your response but what I can say is that I CANT pull to start because it seems to have a limit when I pull it... unsure why that's happening
      I thought the pull was supposed to be a backup

    • @redneckoriental
      @redneckoriental  2 роки тому +1

      @@unrestrainedgaming3546 Whether the pull start mechanism is seized, starter is seized or (hope not) engine is seized, you're going to have to dive in. In most cases. I'd just replace the entire assembly with the pull start and starter together. If it was just the pull rope, sure replace the rope. But if something else is wrong, replace the assy. I've gone cheap and disassembled that "repaired" the pull start mechanism before. Worked fine before I put everything back together. Once reassembled, same problem. Did this 3 times before I decided to replace the assembly. There was another commenter here that had the exact same problem. There are parts in the mechanism that don't show in the parts breakdown that makes it had to know if something is bad or out of place.

    I noticed some magic in this video. Between 2.23 and 2.30 the inverter module magically changes to another model. Can I know if it was damaged or if it is a different generator. I just mention this module in my Honda.

    • @redneckoriental
      @redneckoriental  2 роки тому

      You are most observant! This video was made with 2 generators. One had a bad starter. One had a pull start that was binding. Its' weird that 2 otherwise identical machines had different inverters.

  • @zekepratt814

    I was cranking mine over when it just quit turning over. Tried rope and it wont pull out. I believe starter is stuck out causing a bind. Would you agree? Do i need to take all this off to resolve problem?

    • @redneckoriental
      @redneckoriental  3 роки тому

      It sounds like what happened to this one, but worse. This one was very slow to crank and hard to pull the cord. I took apart the recoil mechanism several times. Each time I reassembled, it pulled freely. But as soon as I cranked, it would bind up again. The only solution was to buy a new recoil and starter assembly. They're about $150 online.

    • @redneckoriental

      The carburetor float needle may be suck open. This causes fuel to overflow from the bowl into the engine and eventually running down past the piston rings into the crankcase where the oil sits.

    How to remove old petrol

    • @redneckoriental
      @redneckoriental  2 роки тому

      Do you mean fuel that has evaporated and dried up in the fuel tank? My favorite way of removing this is by adding bb's and gasoline into the fuel tank. Shake it around so the gasoline and BB's can dissolve the old fuel. To remove the bb's, use a magnet.
