I just discovered my folks have an actual MON-STERA growing up a tree. Thing is an actual monster, it has a 2-3" thick twisting trunk going up the tree (oak). There are internodes in the chunky branch about every 1". Its insane. I was super excited to find it while cutting back some selloum and other overgrowth.
So helpful! I propagated our monstera a couple of years ago but wanted a refresher before doing it again this summer, as ours has gotten super leggy and ooc! Putting your tips into practice today and excited to have some gifts for friends in a couple months!
If anyone wants to buy that super thrive stuff I recommend buying it from an actual store and not from Amazon. Amazon sold me some that wasn't completely sealed (they tried to reseal it) and they diluted it with nasty water. I didn't know it at the time because it was my first time using it. But I used it on 4 different plants and all 4 got moldy soil and killed all of the plants. I've since bought it from home depot and the color is darker, Amazon one was almost clear. The new one I have works great though!

Hi, I just took several cuttings from my monstera and now have them in water with their long aerial roots submerged. I’m a bit nervous as I’ve been reading online it’s quite common for the cut ends to start turning black and rotting. Has this ever happened for you when propagating in water and any tips to minimise this happening?
I took 2 cutting from my monstera for the first time recently, one large cutting with an aerial root and one small new leafed cutting with no aerial root. The large leafed cutting with the aerial root started sloughing off on the bottom and rotted away and died. The small cutting grew roots and is doing great
Have you trimmed the roots of your bedroom monostera? How can you have such a big plant in a small pot? My pot was twice that size for a plant half that size and it was root-bound.
I’m so so happy I found your video I’ve looked through so many videos to find a Monstera that grew like the one that I have so I can know how to properly do it because I did not want to butcher this baby lol
Thanks for being so informative. I just bought my first Monstera plant. can't wait for her to really fill out. What should I do if I only have south facing windows?
How do I tell if my propogated one has root rot from the water? I also left mine for a while and some of the roots are brown /black and some are white. I thought this was normal until you held up yours. Do I need to cut mine back?
Thank you for such detailed video! I still have a few questions. 1. Do we have the change the water once we put in the jar? If so, how often? 2. Are those (old)leaves in the soil going to sprout new leaves anymore?
i have a variegated monstera deliciosa, but i’m worried about cutting it !! the leaves have gotten smaller so i need to repot, but i’m worried about the original plant. how will it continue to grow as it’s currently growing up in a row
I am NOT an indoor plant person, plants have come to me to pass on to a better place. I can grow amazing, huge fruits and veggies but never indoor plants idk why... so a few weeks ago I was hitting some yard sales with the hubby and a sweet elder lady had some of these propagating in a bucket for sale (@$2 a stock which i thought was a BARGAIN) But I told her they were too beautiful for me to take home and mess up. She told me that her best friend of 53 years had passed away a couple months ago from breast cancer (my mom just won a battle of 5 years of stage 4) and her friend got the mom plant as a gift the day her son passed in a car accident 3 years ago. And she hands me the biggest one with 6 nodes on it and said "I know she'll do great with you" and put it in my hands as a gift. I have felt so attached to it since but cant bring myself to cut in all the proper spots😢 i have clipped 3 areas but they each have 2 nodes w 2 leaves each. Should i cut it? Im sorry for the long post i just want to make the point that this little plant means a lot to me and I dont want to mess it up. I want to grow it and share it with my kids. I'm so scared i wont be able to help this little plant thrive 😭
Actually that super thrive is great!! I use it on all my plants and they have growth spurts and I love it because it allows me to make more cuttings ! ❤🎉
Thank you. I propagated my monsteracuttings and they were growing fine with nice white roots, but now I’m seeing root rot ughhh. It’s been about 2 months. Any ideas why? I did rinse and cut the rotted parts out and put in fresh water.
@@TheJungleUpstairs thank you for responding. Yes that’s what I did. Cut off the rotted parts. I was doing it once a week but I decided to step it up every few days. Hope that will help it get back to normal.
Does it matter what season you cut the plant up in. It is cold here at present and thought it might be good to get them going befor summer. The parent plant is outside growing around my kitchen window and looks lovely but has put a lot of growth on so I want to prune out a couple of vines. It has several now and is quite large.
My daughter's landlord destroyed the gorgeous monstera deliciolsa plants at their house last week and she kept the plants hoping that we can save them and grow them at my house in the ground - or in pots. Your vdo on this plant was so loving and fun that I feel confident that we can now do our very best to save as many cuttings as possible and see how many plants we can grow from them. I hope we have not left them too long..... she cried all week seeing the mess the landlord made of the garden that she was loving. Can we still use the leaves for cuttings do you think? they are huge leaves and the plants had beautiful fruit on them that she was waiting to eat.... so sad... but tomorrow we try to save them. If anyone has any good tips for us please let us know. Absolutely LOVE your adoration for each other and your beautiful plants. I talk to mine all the time and I love watching a new leaf develop or a flower, Thanks so much for keeping fun and friendship with our plants alive.
Hii! I was wondering when you cut the monstera with the node do those leaves then produce more leaves or is it going to stay 1 leaf? Like I notice when my plant grows it’s always the newest leaf to produce a newer leaf if that makes sense! *first time monstera plant mom* 🥰
Great video! Thank you! I have a question I already have my cuttings in water for about 2 months, they already have lots of roots! I want to repot them in soil.. should I do it now ? Or wait until Spring time? I live in California and the weather is getting colder. Please advise!!
it's really up to you! you are lucky that you live in California, so the climate is a little more temperate and it's easier to plant year-round... i would say go for it! xo
My kittens climbed in my monstera pot and played with it. All of my stems are broken and I don't think they have nodes close to where it's broken. Is there any chance I might be able to propagate these or at least save my plant?
Yes! and if you live in a city with harsh water, you can fill your watering can and leave it out overnight so the water can breathe, it helps to soften it a bit!
My Monstera was damaged right below the leaf. Is it possible to propagate it? It’s really strong I believe I can save it but I have yet to find a video. Thank you.
I have a huge MONSTERA plant and was clueless how to trim it. Thanks for this video. Also is it ok to use a grow light if you don't have adequate sunlight
I have a monstera that I bought 2 years ago that has grown superrr fast. I’ve always had it in growing in LECA instead of soil, and it’s done great, but it’s recently gotten super tall and leggy. I’m trying to figure out what to do to make it fuller and not so tall. It currently touches my ceiling 😅
my plant's stem got a bit damaged from overturning onto the floor. I have taken a few cuttings, should I just cut that one down as the stem is not thick enough to hold the weight of the leaves, and I'm worried where there is a split in the stem that it might die off, I put a plaster on it, it was the only thing I could think of but I think it is still leaking sap and there are one or two more leaves with nodes. Thank you for this video!
Hi could you advise me. I was given a leaf to propagate which I did which has now grown a new little Leaf. should I know cut away the mother leaf so all the energy can go into the new Leaf/plant?
At 5:20 could you have cut at the very bottom of that stem or is where you cut the best spot to do it? Will that part of the original plant regrow there? P.S. This video was veey helpful, thank you :)
to prevent rotting, you should leave the node out of water for about a day, that way it can sort of cauterize its wounds, and prevent rotting in the water.
Is it bad that the aerial roots are in water? What I have to put them in will not allow me to keep them out of water…they would fall over. Will they rot?
Can you please do a video on how you keep your plants from infestations! (Fungus gnats, scale bugs, thrips etc) I have all 3 :( I have neem oil but it didn't work when I used it maybe I'm doing it wrong
Thank you for the great video! Will the momma plant continue to grow after you take leaf cuttings? My parent plant is only a year old and I’m scared that it’ll stay small if I start taking cuttings from it. Any advice?

we ended up repotting it - you're right that it got pretty rootbound at the end there!
Bring it back a little bit from the window so the leaves won't burn
What's the difference between gardening velcro and regular velcro other than the color?
Nothing 😂 But I’ve never found velcro sold in rolls like this!
Y’all have great content, I am learning so much!
I’m so glad!
1. not necessary, refill to compensate for evaporation
2. yes
@@danielevgn thank you! i was worrying that the old branch would stop growing TT
i have a variegated monstera deliciosa, but i’m worried about cutting it !! the leaves have gotten smaller so i need to repot, but i’m worried about the original plant. how will it continue to grow as it’s currently growing up in a row
How can I find that velcro staff on amazon please? It only comes up with the 2-part ones and not this type 🤦♀️
Actually that super thrive is great!! I use it on all my plants and they have growth spurts and I love it because it allows me to make more cuttings ! ❤🎉
it's my favorite!!
Great video really needed it, now I know how to do my monstera. Thanks princess!
Thank you. I propagated my monsteracuttings and they were growing fine with nice white roots, but now I’m seeing root rot ughhh. It’s been about 2 months. Any ideas why? I did rinse and cut the rotted parts out and put in fresh water.
That happens sometimes to me too! I’d just cut off the rotting parts - how often have you been swapping out the water?
@@TheJungleUpstairs thank you for responding. Yes that’s what I did. Cut off the rotted parts. I was doing it once a week but I decided to step it up every few days. Hope that will help it get back to normal.
How far do I submerge the cut offs in water when propagating?
Does the aerial root need to be underwater if it already has a few roots?
Will the original stem that was cut continue to have new growth?
Does it matter what season you cut the plant up in. It is cold here at present and thought it might be good to get them going befor summer. The parent plant is outside growing around my kitchen window and looks lovely but has put a lot of growth on so I want to prune out a couple of vines. It has several now and is quite large.
I usually try to do most of my experiments in the spring and summer months ✨
How often should you change the water?
Hii! I was wondering when you cut the monstera with the node do those leaves then produce more leaves or is it going to stay 1 leaf? Like I notice when my plant grows it’s always the newest leaf to produce a newer leaf if that makes sense! *first time monstera plant mom* 🥰
can you replant in the same pot you took the leave after the roots growing?
Gaganda nman ng halaman
This is Great! Straight to the point!
Thank you SO much!! I learned a lot and now feel confident that I can cut my beloved plant 😍❤👏
Yay! That makes me so happy!!
Is it OK to use city tapwater?
Yes! and if you live in a city with harsh water, you can fill your watering can and leave it out overnight so the water can breathe, it helps to soften it a bit!
My Monstera was damaged right below the leaf. Is it possible to propagate it? It’s really strong I believe I can save it but I have yet to find a video. Thank you.
I have NW facing window but the light comes in nice and bright would that be okay?
What happens to the mother plant after it’s all been chopped for propagation? Does it come back happy and bushy?
If done properly yes and she might even grow a little more prolifically :)
I have a huge MONSTERA plant and was clueless how to trim it. Thanks for this video. Also is it ok to use a grow light if you don't have adequate sunlight
After getting healthy roots what size pot should I start my leaves in?
Would root powder work just as well as superthrive?
Do you keep the aerial roots out of the water or do you put them in the water?
yep, i would leave them out of the water!
Thank you for that. Simple and to the point.
I’m so glad it was helpful! ❤️
I’ve done this and after 4 weeks I see a root growing but the two leaves are wilting and look weak, any ideas why? It is in a sunny spot. Thanks
Did you just let the areol root hang out the jar? Is ok to trim it a bit so it fits in the said jar?
You can totally trim it!

Mine was dry and I cut them! I don’t know if they going to grow?
Hi could you advise me. I was given a leaf to propagate which I did which has now grown a new little Leaf.
should I know cut away the mother leaf so all the energy can go into the new Leaf/plant?
She finally starts cutting at 5:20 if you want to skip to what you came here for.
At 5:20 could you have cut at the very bottom of that stem or is where you cut the best spot to do it? Will that part of the original plant regrow there?
P.S.
This video was veey helpful, thank you :)
If I don’t cut below the nodes like you and just do the stem, will it grow roots?
Nope 😭
Can I cut of those with baby leaves too? Or should I just cut off only the adults leaves? 🤓
Do I need to put anything on the exposed/open vine of the mother plant so it doesn’t rot at the end?
Do you need to make sure the nodes are fully submerged in the water? Ie that reeeally long one?
Yes!
to prevent rotting, you should leave the node out of water for about a day, that way it can sort of cauterize its wounds, and prevent rotting in the water.
Is it bad that the aerial roots are in water? What I have to put them in will not allow me to keep them out of water…they would fall over. Will they rot?
Okay! Nice! This is 2022 now, how is the Monstera Deliciosa that you displayed doing now?
So, if you cut it not by the node, you can put it in water and it will be decorative but won’t grow more?
Can you please do a video on how you keep your plants from infestations! (Fungus gnats, scale bugs, thrips etc) I have all 3 :( I have neem oil but it didn't work when I used it maybe I'm doing it wrong
Yes!! Great idea!
Thank you for the great video! Will the momma plant continue to grow after you take leaf cuttings? My parent plant is only a year old and I’m scared that it’ll stay small if I start taking cuttings from it. Any advice?
It does keep growing! Oftentimes, it even helps promote growth!
What was that liquid fertilizer you use?
