I like to put pothose cuttings that have been in water for a bit and have some roots into whatever else im trying to propogate in water. They put off rooting hormones that will speed up other cuttings rooting. I got my monstera to start making new roots within a week.

I am thinking of taking a cutting off the top like you suggested, and then planting it in the pot after rooting it in water. What is your guidance for deciding if a pot is too small for a deliciosa? another way instead of changing water in cuttings is to use a water sprayer, set to solid stream not mist, to _inject_ fresh water and air bubbles into the water.. that way it stirs it up a little and fresh oxygen gets to the roots.. I only change it when it gets really dirty but by that time I take them out in the dirt anyway.. somehow I dont get algae in pure water, only when I use perlite though, funny enough 😄

When your first new Leaf emerges from your tip cutting you can remove the old one (which will never look as nice as the new ones) so your new plant will divert all of its resources to new leaves instead of trying to repair old damaged leaves. Also if your old existing leave from your tip cutting wilts and looks dehydrated you can remove half of the leaf until it can grow some new leaves and roots and mist the leaves (both sides) to take some stress off of it until it recovers from being cut (which is somewhat traumatic for a plant). With monstera as well as pretty much every other plant (that grows leaves) when taking cuttings it's always important to remember that until they grow some roots that can't take up water from wet dirt which doesn't benefit the plant so misting the leaves is the best way to keep it from drying out and always remember that plants only lose water from their leaves so reducing the leaf surface minimize the amount of water loss until it can grow roots and though it might look funny once it's got a healthy root system it will start replacing leaves very fast and you can remove the funny looking ones then. When I had a home Nursery selling plants on eBay I had misters that would come on 4 or 5 times a day but only for two or three minutes at a time and this is the way every professional Nursery operates so always follow the lead of the ones in the know (the professionals who are doing it for profit).

Once some roots are formed I pot it up in pafcal chips, use hydroponic nutrient solution to water it, and the f**ker just sprout inches of roots per week (I used a clear pot so I can see). Within a month the small pot is pot bound. I would love for you to try it out and do a video on it too. 🙏

Hi, I've done air layering with 100% success. I used plastic cups filled with spagnum moss. I cut the stem few days before I plant the cuttings. They are being held in place by velcro. I remove the spagnum moss from the roots but not completely. Just shake off the excess. That way I am not disturbing the roots. Than stick the new plants on some kind of pole and that's it.

Nice one again. Thanks. Do you reckon the adansonii will work in the same way? It would be the next one due.
3-4 weeks for root development is not that long. I just succeeded after several tries for the first time to have a Crassula (jade plan) leaf broken off to take roots in a shot glass half full of water with cling film over the glass and no changing of anything. It took three months! Tiny leaves and very fine roots are developing now from the little stem of the leaf. I do similar experiments with all of my plants now to see what is working.

I have a big Monstera and hope you can help me with a question.
Ok, it's four, actually, which were sold in one pot. I planted them into a bigger pot already, and they are thriving. Big, lush leaves, more and more fenestration, not a single brown tip. But they are most likely will outgrow the pot this summer, and I am planning ahead to repot them. I don't want to make cuttings, just separate the plants (maybe put two in one pot, so I have two pots in the end). I also want to make a moss pole for them.
My question is: Can I put the long aerial roots that I have directed into the soil until now into the moss of a moss pole? Or will that cause the roots to rot because the part of them that's not in the soil is used to be dry in the air instead of being wrapped in moist moss?

    • @MoralistaDefinitivo

I believe you don't have to let it callus over if you've cut it with a very sharp knife (I assume razor blade or hobby knife level of sharpness). That being said, I also think a cutting will be more prone to rot the Wetter the environment. So callousing might be more important if you plan on propagating in water

How do you prevent the cutting from getting slimey and rotting? Every cutting of mine didn’t like water but somehow thrived on hydropeals mixed with a little soil 🥲

Not sure. It happens sometimes but not often. I change the water sometimes

My favorite plant ❤ what I find funny is that MD is one of the easiest plants to propagate but don't you dare to try on variegated 😂😂 that's where the 'real' fun begins with these guys🫣
