- John Prine pairs with Brandi Carlile on his classic duet "In Spite of Ourselves" on the Cayamo Cruise Jan. 17-24, 2015. Brandi and John each have autographed guitars that have been raffled in years past to help support Peace Talks Radio. Find out more and how you can help at www.peacetalksradio.com
I met John twice. Once when I was 15 and he encouraged me to keep playing guitar. I did. Still do. Met him again at age 50 .. at a winery concert for 5000 people. Wife and I third row. John walked up .. stood over us and serenaded us with my favorite song ... Angel from Montgomery. We cried .. the whole front 3 rows cried ... Even John got misty. I simply cannot convey the weight of gratitude that the man has brought into my life. There will never be another John Prine. And I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. God bless him. 😎
lovely
@@cjwaywell Why. My experience seems to have touched you. I am so very pleased. God Bless you, my friend.
May we all have at least 1 person in our lives that makes us as happy as Brandi is here. Her smile is infectious.
You can see Brandi’s reverence to John in this. Amazing
Only thing better than seeing John Price is seeing Brandi Carlile alongside. Just wow.
Two of my favorite singers having fun and sounding great. I needed this smile after hearing Mr. Prine passed. Thank you & RIP John Prine

Well, let's see . . . so far I've seen videos of John preforming this song with Iris DeMent (the classic duo, of course), Carrie Rodriguez, Elizabeth Cook, Emmylou Harris, and, now, Brandi. Can't decide which one I like best; they are all fantastic! :)
Hello, yes, all of them great... BUT!!! How could you have missed Bonnie Raitt ????
I don't know that John ever performed In Spite of Ourselves with Bonnie Raitt.
I, also, have never run across a video of John performing this song with Bonnie. If I had, I certainly wouldn't have left her out of my list, since I've been a fan of Bonnie (and John) since forever.
Something about Iris though. She has a unique sound and delivery that none of them can reproduce.
@@patrickhawkinson8399 I agree wholeheartedly. The others do a fine job, but Irene really delivers this song with her unique phrasing and that particular contrasting of comfortable familiarity and rueful malaise in her voice matching so precisely to the lyrical call and response with John's voice. Of course, it could be that I fell in love with the song after hearing them sing it together and then about a thousand times too... and I do believe they recorded it together originally right? Emmylou is right up there though in terms of her voice, but she is almost too sexy for it!
fantastic!!
Jonh Prine, e especial, um cativante musito em tudo que faz parabens.
omg she is having so much fun! Isn't this what music is for???
Classic
never seen brandi smile so much
RIP
She's GREAT!
brilliant guys well done
Don't get much better.
j'adore,
I really need to learn this Travis Picking style.
Pretty much classic and vintage.
God bless John Prine...my goodness he has become the big door prize, so much weight gain , hope he loses it...none the less he is still one of my favs
A "pretty good" version, but he one with Iris DeMent is better. Man, that guitar is getting further and further away from John, he may to soon have his arms surgically extended. Still a great singer and writer though. Dedhed47
