Going for boxset, pro move.
Multiple box sets! I think Molly wins for most minutes of film scored.
Came here to say this.
She should have picked up the Varda set… and maybe the Showa-era Godzilla set as well.
indeed. nice haul!
I count five. She robbed em! Also love her 'blind pick', and her love of love for art.
They should get the rest of The Breakfast Club in there, just so Judd Nelson could say “Does Criterion know that you raid their closet?”
YES!
Good one!😂
Hahah
"You will get the answer to that one next Saturday ..."
@@Bringos76 “Don’t mess with the bull young man, you’ll get the horns.” 🤘
Ringwald understood the assignment. Girl started big with that Dietrich box set and kept going. When she pulled out the Fellini box I was in tears with joy. Go big Molly!!
I think Criterion was worried they wouldn't have a closet after Molly cleaned them out haha.
I love how she claimed she would be discerning and not greedy - before proceeding to almost pull a Cate Blanchett / Todd Field on the closet.
A Face in The Crowd... She accidentaly grabbed the DVD, put it back and got the BluRay... I know some of you had a moment there haha
Patricia Neal is like the mum I never had. She's etched in my mind giving out lemonade in Hud.
It was me! Haha. Get the Blu! If there’s a 4K, get that one!
We don’t need to remake A Face in the Crowd, we are living it!
TY MR
Oh yeah, I did a very solemn nod when I saw that
Such a great movie. Been recommending that, "The Great Dictator" & "Network" to get a good perspective on current times.
Fun fact: Molly Ringwald is also an excellent translator and translated the novel Lie With Me from French. It's a great read, she did a wonderful job.
Americans: Can you believe they speak TWO WHOLE LANGUAGES?
Europeans: Why so few? Did they struggle in school?
@@bradl8887 Well, there's a big difference between being able to speak two languages and being able to translate a novel to a very high standard
@@drew1564 Ignore the snide joke. It reveals more about them than it does you.
@@bradl8887 merican school doesn't really teach foreign languages seriously
@@bradl8887 there's more to translating *WELL* than just knowing two languages lol.
What absolute fortune to randomly pick Umberto D. Love it.
Right? Lol I was like damn she got some real luck on that one. What a gem.
Oh Umbero D.
I watched it in film class and after the film was done the prof turns on the lights and a bunch of too cool 20 year olds are quickly trying to mop up their faces.
So beautiful but so tragic that film.
I was surprised that she hadn't seen it. Such a wonderful film. Truly one of the greatest ever.
More people need to do the random pick!
💯
Yes, I always like the "I've never seen it, or even heard about it, but it looks interesting" picks as well as the "I'd take it but I already own it".
Id also like to see a follow up on their thought after viewing
Yeah that was fun.
"Who's that?" "It's Fellini" Iconic moment deluxe! So glad she got a visit to the closet! Love her so much! And just enjoying hearing her talk about the films!
Wow. 11 picks, including 5 box sets. More than 20 movies altogether. I've never seen anyone walk out of that closet with so much swag. Nice work, Molly!
I don't know the exact number of films, but the Safdie brothers really do a number on the closet lol
She was an absolutely ferocious thrift-store shopper when she was younger. A picker-up of unconcidered triffles.
check out the Alfonso Cuaron and Pawel Pawlikowski episode, they cleaned the house!!!
How is it nice work on her part? I cringed the whole time.
I love French movies because I’m so cool.
There was a point where she bragged about how much she loved the film and yet doesn’t own it?
Okay, Molly.
Also, when she mentioned that Fellini liked her.
Who cares??
Molly!!! I love Molly for sentimental reasons of my teen-age-hood. but also because she is an interesting, intelligent, strong, fun and talented woman. some years ago they ran an article in playbill magazine asking actors to list the best broadway shows they had ever seen-and Molly's list was wonderful. it was so eclectic. it was so smart. and her comments on each show were so specific and spot on. she's an icon. and one of her favorite films is IL NOTTI DI CABIRIA-AND Fellini kissed her on the head?? come on! come on!????
She is evergreen
This woman doesn’t age! She looks fantastic!
I'm pretty sure she's had work done on her face
@@emilysansone1861 I don't see it at all.
S u r g e r y
Molly: I'm going to try to be more selective.
Also Molly: Shotgun blasts a chunk of the Criterion Collection off the shelves by taking 5 box sets 😅
Molly is amazing. She looks 20 years younger than her age and she has had such an amazing career. A very accomplished vocalist. John Hughes chose well when he cast her in his films.
Why is age brought up when it’s a woman. It’s so irrelevant?
@@ririschannelx Same thinking--- except when you see people talking about Keanu Reeves or Brad Pitt etc it is nowadays both ways, but so stupid imo. In the young generation, looks of a guy are now more important to girls than other way around. Artificial world. Always been.
@@TheJimbo1791 it’s just interesting that on the videos of men, it’s never brought up or even considered. Doesn’t matter how smart or interesting she is, the most impressive thing a woman can do is “age well” it’s nauseating. She’s a translator ffs!
@@TheJimbo1791 I see it brought up about Paul Rudd all the time...there are literally a ton of memes about it. Lol.
I think Molly looks amazing as well, and it has absolutely nothing to do with gender. If I felt the same way about a man, I might comment on how great HE looks too. So now it’s wrong to even compliment a woman? 🙇♂️🤦
I really like Molly’s glasses. And I am really surprised she met Fellini in real life.
Really love her work in The Breakfast Club, which is also in the Criterion. And nice movie choices she picked.
“Fellini kissed me on the head” is quite the flex.
And she also worked with Godard in King Lear.
Molly Ringwald absolutely aced that. Great choices. I love the random pick. They should do that every time, and I also think they should suggest a film to introduce to the collection that isn't there currently. I'd love to see films likeThe Green Ray included.
Yes, The Green Ray! Need it!
Nights of Cabiria…my favorite! Wonderful choices all around.
Molly Ringwald picking Celine and Julie Go Boating made my day
Right?? I gasped
Wearing one of my favorite Godard Films sweater! Based
I'm sitting here, turning on "Molly Ringwald’s Closet Picks" and I'm wondering if "A Face in the Crowd" is a Criterion selection and BAM. Molly selects the film as her second pick. I'm literally stunned for 3-5 minutes which is gradually replaced by the realization that I had one wish and I wasted it on a happy serendipity. GOOD MOVIE PEOPLE. SEE IT.
My first celebrity crush in the 1980s, you're still fabulous!
I'm so glad that she went with BD for her picks. There are a bunch of contemporary closet picks videos where ppl are getting DVDs! Even Molly's blind pick, she went back for the smaller case.
Ah love Molly! She was definitely the face of a decade and great to hear her picks. I can’t wait to look this up 😁
“Umberto D” absolutely blew me away when I saw it. It is DeSica’s masterpiece.
If I were invited to the Criterion Closet I would be like "No thanks, I brought my own tote bag" and I would proceed to shake out an Ikea Frakta.
Also, really love Molly Ringwald!
OMG. I'm still in love with Molly Ringwald.
Molly , keep going , Gurl! I wanna see you do more stuff since CAPOTE! Our generation is NOT DONE , YET! ❤️ that you gave a shout out to Patricia Neal. One of the best EVER!🥇🏆. Just watched her in HUD this morning. Another great film with Patricia , Paul Newman , Brandon de Wilde and Melvyn Douglas. Great cinematography by James Wong Howe...🎉
The random pick is highly underused...should be a required move.
I like the blind random pick idea. That should be a Criterion closet tradition, the last pick is a blind random one.
She's that customer you love to see walk into the video store - she'll always pick something interesting and have something to say about what she's watched to get you thinking.
One of the best picks I've ever seen. I've watched few of the films that she picked, but the class and versatility in her choices is outstanding
Mazursky's criminally underrated "Tempest" should be released by Criterion! So many unforgettable performances... Such zany joy.
Wow I haven't seen Molly in years, she looks good. Nice to see she's still passionate about film (maybe an A24 role will be around the corner for her)
Absolutely gorgeous! and some great taste in films, those of us old enough to remember her films when they were released really appreciate this.
Loved her Fellini story.
Damn, didn’t know she was such a movie buff! You’re awesome Molly! ❤️🎬
Just like me, of course.
Starting with the Dietrich & von Sternberg boxset is such a vibe
I love that she can just casually drop that she met Felini before she knew who he was and he kissed her on the head lol
She must have a very good collection at home. She was greedy, she was great. You take what you want but you have to talk your love and she did. One of the greatest CCC videos!
Great to see you Molly! Icon 🙏🫂❤️📽️
Such a sweetheart, and a rivette lover, and a colleague of cassavetes, and a teen pop icon, brava!
I met Molly years ago right after The Breakfast Club was released. She's a very nice/cool person. Excellent choices.
Umberto D is one of my fav movies. Each guest should continue doing one blind pick to end their selections. love that
When I saw her check for Blu-ray over DVD, I said “You go, Molly!!”
That closing her eyes and picking a movie at random was a nice touch. It would have been funny if she picked out "The Breakfast Club", though.
The random pick was a good move. Perhaps Criterion should allow a "random fan" (non-celebrity) to enter the closet once in a while.
Molly Ringwald is the teen idol of the '80s and it's great to see that she still looks great after all these years.
Also, I love it when they do random picks. Plus, you get to see the tastes some of these actors have. Your respect and love for the person goes even higher for their knowledge.
Wow! Her blind pick is one of my favorite movies! In fact, I watched Umberto D. Criterion blu-ray last night! Congrats Molly!
I loved her look. The Face in The Crowd comment was so on point. We are living it!
Oooo, she got lucky on her “blind buy!” UMBERTO D is a fantastic movie!!! Yay!!!
Did she get trapped in a time bubble at the Breakfast Club?56 and beautiful.
I'd have guessed 36. She looks incredible.
She looks her age, and there's nothing wrong with that.
@@LeviBoldockplease tell me where you are living that every woman ages as gracefully as molly ringwald
u r buggin lmao
Bringing up a woman’s looks/age in a video that shows how smart and interesting she is….. boring. That is all you have to say? Shocked but not surprised.
That cassavetes box set would be the FIRST thing Id grab from that closet
By far my favorite closet pick video! Goingo for the box sets and random pick! Molly is Mother
Legend! ❤ Loved her season of _Feud: Capote & The Swans_ btw Always great to see her acting these days. Great picks, too!
PS. Oh, to have met Fellini 🥰🥰🥰
It's 2024 and Molly Ringwald is still the coolest girl in the world. ✨
Love that Molly picked the Ernst Lubitsch set. He basically discovered Jeanette MacDonald when he cast her in The Love Parade. She doesn't get enough credit for her work in early musical film.
I think she will LOVE Umberto!! Beautiful, but heartbreaking. Would make a great double feature with Harry and Tonto.
That random pick of Umberto D at the end made me really happy. My dad and I love that movie.
As a teen I’d always flit between fancying either Molly Ringwald & Ally Sheedy in breakfast club. I remember settling on Ally before her makeover towards the ending
Pre-makeover Ally was a wild animal! I definitely wanted to get to know her more.
She randomly picked Umberto D, that is my favorite movie...I could tell that was it as soon as she grabbed it!
She did this like she was picking out steaks on "Supermarket Sweep". Respect.
Looking great, Molly! Huge fan of yours here! Happy to know you love pre-codes, and that you chose the fantastic Dietrich-von Sternberg box set first ❤
I’ll always remember Molly from the first movie I ever saw her in, which was Tempest. My dad is Greek and most of the filming was in Greece. I’m only a couple years younger than her, but I can’t imagine the pressure of your first film being a John Cassavetes film, being surrounded by heavyweight talents. From the way she talks about it, it sounds like it was a good experience.
Great to see Molly!
Wow Umberto D. Just happens to be my fave film! Enjoy it Molly 🎉
Love Celine and Julie Go Boating. Saw it once, decades ago. It’s hard to find. Glad to know it’s still available.
As I was watching this episode I just randomly tought that if I were in the closet I would close my eyes, and pick randomly 3 movies from each sides of the cabinet, and then this happens :)
What GREAT choices! I'm impressed!
Great picks. And Molly looks fantastic! ✨
I want that Godard sweater and on second thought that Fellini box as well the Cassavettes one too .
Eric Rohmer, Dumont, great pick 😊 French cinéma
Loved what she had to say about Rohmer. He’s my favorite any time of the year!
Nice to see her
Her picks are my picks😊
I still think they should do a fan closet pick once a quarter or something and set some sort of limit because I know we're not all famous so we don't rob them blind, haha
Yay ! "Céline et Julie go boating" !!!! Best movie ever ! Wow, Rivette, Fellini, Cassavetes, Dumont even. Great taste ! Bravo !
Awesome! I love her closet picks.👍
girly took so much,,
good for her, good for her
That's interesting that Love Streams isn't in the Cassavetes set. Is there a reason for that? Seems like it would fit the rest of the films in that set perfectly.
Husbands isn’t on the set either! Kind of weird 🤔
They didn't have the rights for either at the time it was put together. The great disappointment of that set is the alternative original version of Shadows that Ray Carney unearthed prior to the set being put together not being included.
@BasementArtScott Oh OK, cheers. Love Streams is a top three favourite Cassavetes for me.
There's a reason I love to see Molly in anything, and hope we'll see her in so much more.
Great picks! And she looks absolutely stunning!
I’ve had a crush on Molly Ringwald since The Breakfast Club. At 53, I still do.😊
I wonder if she's at Criterion for Godard's King Lear
It's one thing to unhesitatingly raid the closet to this extent, it's another to do so while displaying a sincere love of film and offering this sort of insight. She could have grabbed 20 more and I would have been all for it.
Loved it she’s just impeccable love her outfit and she reminds me of how we can teleport into the80s ❤
You should get a close up shot for each item they pick.
I love how she fangirls over pre-Code films ❤
I've watched a fair amount of these, sorry for kind of a newbie question though: do they get to keep these or do they return them?
Glad to see Molly pick A Face In The Crowd. Not sure I've seen that film picked before. An amazing performance by Andy Griffith, his first film. Also love Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau, especially in the final scene where he tells Andy Griffith what the future holds for him. Yes, we are living it, hopefully that will begin to fade away later this year, if not sooner.
Imagine Molly Ringwald At The United Center For The Chicago Bulls Game In Chicago Illinois Because Of Molly Ringwald Is A Chicago Bulls Fan And Being Surrounded By Chicago Bulls Fans
It's great seeing Molly doing more publicity and things like this! She's ageless and sophisticated!
I always enjoy watching these. I really appreciate the run down on why they picked a specific movie! GOD, I wish Criterion Collection would ask me to do one!
Everyone should do the random pick! She chose a good one.
She has still got it ❤. Also pro collector moves. That was what 30 disks? 😄
love her. She seems like quite a cinefile.
"I always thought that this would make an excellent remake, but...we're living it." Love her.
I have not seen her in many years. Interesting how she still has a youthful look about her. I loved her acting.
Finally, a celebrity someone remembers, even if it was from almost forty years ago.
Molly Ringwald is a film nerd just like the rest of us! I love it
