Apparently Ally wrote the book -- a best seller -- in her spare time.
She danced with the American Ballet Theatre from six to fourteen, but later switched to acting full time because she didn't want to be anorexic.
'She Was Nice To Mice' was so popular that it was released as a spoken word vinyl (this was prior to books on tape) read by, of course, Alexandra Elizabeth Sheedy.
She continues to act AND is a book editor as well as a professor of theatre.
Wow. I'm happy to just get groceries and pull a few weeds.

To be precise, Books On Tape was founded in 1975, the year this show was broadcast.
Caedmon released the vinyl LP the following year. Of course books and excerpts from them were available for decades prior on other media.

Whats amazing is not only was this a best seller for her, but it's not even her best work. Her book ,'Yesterday I Saw The Sun' is a collection of her original poems. All about her trials and life as an anorexic ballet dancer to her rehabilitation from addiction. We use this book in a clinical setting for young ladies in rehab. Ally has also written other works but unfortunately, I think her acting and also as Professor of drama at City College of New York has taken way to much time on her personal writing. Hopefully someday when she needs a sabbatical maybe she get back to writing! 🌹🕊️

I was already familiar with Ally's book (though I haven't read it yet). I have read one (and own) of her books of poetry. It was written when she was going through some dark times, and I found her poems had a great deal of emotion and depth. I bought the book because I was a fan of her acting, but then I became a fan of her writing, too. In fact, it was her writing that really opened my mind to poetry and all that it could be. That helped me when I had to teach a Reading unit on poetry to my elementary school students.
