@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew Certainly not after you did such a great job refurbishing and upgrading it! I didn’t mean for this comment to rain on the video at all, it was just a bit of a reality check for my inner child

I think you did well Andrew. You upgraded responsibly and it should play most modern games. You will always have that guy who thinks anything that isn't a 10,000 dollar custom built monster is junk.
Every month there will be average of 3-4 videos from him, and I always keen and exuberant to watch every single of them. Even I rewatch some videos for few times for no reason during my meal or relaxing time. Love to see more from you Andrew. I hope the next one will be totally different in color as you paint the consoles before, its very satisfying to see :D
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew I couldn’t agree more. Mine’s starting to show it’s age but it’s served me well. I’m going to keep it in another room since it’s still usable, just not as powerful as I’d want for newer games
@@a_spire obviously you wouldn’t want to buy one now since it’s so out of date, but if you already have one it’s surprisingly viable so long as you keep settings at a medium. even runs most vr games great, save for half life alyx
So glad I found this. I am still using my X51R2. It is an i5-4460 3.2ghz. I've already updated the RAM once to 16GB, but am looking to update the CPU and GPU also. Can't afford to upgrade to a new PC at the moment, and this one works pretty well still. I found it really interesting to see the improvement with the updates you made.
My old x51 (with an i7) has been running since 2012, and paired with a GTX 1060 still serves as my “gaming rig” connected to a 65” 4K TV. While it won’t run a lot of newer stuff at such a high resolution, utilizing free and open source software Magpie (essentially a system-wide AMD FSR for any program), I don’t have any immediate need to upgrade any time soon. I can emulate everything up to lighter PS3 and Switch titles, while playing games like Witcher 3 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider at surprisingly good settings. While not the most powerful or flashy, it continues to serve the purpose I originally purchased it for nearly a decade ago-a legit and very serviceable console replacement!
Yeah the power supply looks proprietary, as well as a few of the breakout boards - I'd probably go with something more standard to be honest. But this was a great restoration. I reckon from watching this, that 1080p resolution would have been better, instead of 2k - and definitely so (plus low settings instead of medium) for Cyberpunk 2077.
Hello, very nice I'm stalking from Turkey and I congratulate you doing good work and I wish you continued success. I especially like the videos you make like laptop modding and bringing back to life. You are loved :)
I love the paint job. I used to work at Dell's Alienware tech support for the UK, Ireland and South Africa (and since the English line was 24/7, basically entire Europe after the local lines closed at 6 or 7 PM) when this machine came out. Due to its slightly lower specs compared to the Area-51 and Aurora, we just called it the gaming Optiplex :D I recently bought an X51 R3 case, and found out afterwards that the PSU board on the R3 is not a separate board, like on the R1 and R2, but it's part of the original mainboard, so I had to go with that one. I was considering the picoPSU as a stopgap solution, but that takes 12V and the original PSU is a 19V job. Still, I'm happy with the i7 6700K in my machine :)
I have the same model and am still using it today and love your paint work and extra RGBs! I did not do any painting but did clean the heat sink and repasted with Arctic MX-5, and CPU now sits below 80C even on full stress test. I'd recommend you go with a blower style GTX 1060 instead, as the 1050 you got will circulate the heat in the case and cause the entire case including the CPU to get really warm.
I remember when one of my rich friends got one of these, I was using an old athelon and some like 256mb ati card, good enough for minecraft at lowest settings and some css
I am about to do something similar as my fiancé has a R1 of this computer as well. I did note a few things though that I am able to upgrade further than yourself. Firstly, it looks like you are missing the CPU cooler shroud which would allow for more efficient cooling. I found someone who has made a custom cooler shroud to fit with a Noctua NH-L9i for more efficient cooling as well as an extension mod for the front fan to allow the SATA cables for the SSD/HDD more room to flex. Ontop of this, the model I have came with the 330W power supply so I was able to put a full 6GB GTX 1060 in there and it performs quite well but it is limited by the i5-3330 I still, I will also be upgrading to the 3770. Aside from this, I like the RGB upgrade and paint job, may do something slightly different, but thank you so much for the inspiration.
Very nicely done mod and upgrade. I've upgraded my GPU as well, and as long as you stay under total power draw, I think there's no other limitation on what kind of GPU you can drive. I have two X51 PCs and seen numerous other teardowns and it's clear you're actually missing a plastic bracket that fits over the CPU cooler that encloses and directs all the CPU air out the back vent. - right now, you're just circulating the hot air in the case and not blowing it out the back and the X51 was actually purposefully designed to push hit air directly out the back from both the CPU and the GPU ("blower" style GPUs.)
Hello Mr. Andrew, i'm glad you are back with new videos.......the alienware PC you worked on is great!!!! Good job Mr. Andrew - ------- love from India......

Crazy. I love this channel and after I just modified 1 of these. I few days later, Andrew is doing the same lol.. I modified a R2 to have a x570i strix, 3700x, rtx 2070 super mini. 16gb tridentz rgb, a9a noctua cooler with rgb fan, 2x 2tb 970 evo plus, 2x 5tb 2.5 inch hhds, blu ray drive, hd plex 400w combo, also cut a plexiglass window on the side to see the motherboard. Had slight modification to the back of the case but it has to be the most powerful version of this case lol. Need to add a video here in the future.... Not for the side panel and front alienware leds to work with new motherboard, I just connected front panel connector "power 1" to the rgb header. Red to 12v and black to ground
Thank you bro :D btw the R2 is much better than the R1 and I can imagine your modification, it's totally great, also I think to cut one of the panels and make a window :D
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew yeah, if using stock parts, the r2 has a much better dc-atx psu board for more powerful gpu's.
