I bought one of these (in black) back in late 2012. I'm writing this comment with it, as I have been using it literally daily ever since it arrived home. It's been in countless countries, done all sorts of work, and still works just as well as it did the first moment I powered it up. I have to admit it has been accidentally dropped and stepped on (oops), but survived everything. I did think it was pricey at the time, but oh boy has it completely paid itself off. Very reliable and sturdy machines.
@@livtown personally I really like it. It's very easy to type with as you can slide your fingers across the keyboard considering how flat it is. Again this is pretty much the only computer I've used in the past 9 years and I haven't had any sort of substantial experience with mechanical keyboard so can't compare. Only recently the "D" key has started double-tapping (not too bothering) but aside from that, flawless experience.
@@guillemlluciagris5072 yeah I see that. I sold my GT72S (msi gaming laptop) because of the fact that it fills my backpack and it's hurting my back when I have a (for me) normal amount of stuff in there. I really miss that keyboard, and prefer it over a mx brown mech keyboard.
These older machines are still machines, quality and durable, this one was also dropped I found many traces. I wish new laptops to be durable like the older ones :)
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew yeah I see. If you are going to buy a new laptop soon, I would recommend lenovo. Lenovo had really good build quality on their higher end models. I got an Asus which is fine, but not more than than. I'm enjoying the 16gbs of ram and 1tb ssd in combination with the ryzen 7 4700u with 8 cores anyhow. Bought it in a sale for 749 euros
I love this idea. Bringing life back to something that would otherwise end up in a junkyard. Perfect for old games, and you could throw in some game streaming for the new ones!
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew Can you please try to repair a Packard Bell Laptops and upgrade them, specifically the Packard Bell Easynote NJ65 because I have that laptop but sadly that laptop now is not turning on 😓 I think it is having some cpu overheating something like that 🥺
Your work is beautiful, since I have been watching your videos I have restored a Dell XPS M1730, and two old netbooks and made them live again, you are a great inspiration for people to save things that would be thrown away.
Like a surgeon doing transplants or reconstructive surgery - these videos keep getting better and better. Keep e-waste out of landfill by rejuvenating and re-using second-hand parts is a great community service.
I have the same latop, you inspired me to do something similair. My girlfriend needed a computer for doing some light foto editing and playing minecraft and other similar games, so i decided to refresh my old alienware m14x. I was a little scared to open it up since I never worked on a laptop before but there is actually is allot of good tutorials. I cleaned it repasted gpu and cpu, cleaned of al the sticky rubber from the chassis just with a rough spoung, and upgraded to ssd and 16gb of ram. It actually runs great now. Start up whent from 1.5 minutes to about 10 seconds. It can still play games like gta 5 and rome 2 pretty well (with some lowerd settings). Thanks for the video, if I had not seen it the old m14x would problably still be collecting dust. More importantly i feel more confident opening up my laptops and doing jobs like repasting and deep cleaning my self.
Man, I have learnt to fix laptops from you itself. I really thank you for getting me this idea. My parents were really happy after I cleaned up the internal parts of my laptop.
Came across your channel for the first time. This video was such a pleasure to watch! Thank you so much for your effort and attention to detail! Truly a labor of love and passion. I love watching these old tech restorations, especially when done in the quality you have exhibited! Subscribed!
I bought mine in 2012 and it's still a great computer. I'm now having trouble with the computer freezing for about 10 seconds every 10-15 minutes. I had the motherboard replaced about 18 months ago and the tech told me the hard drive was nearing the end of it's life. The battery is also at 0%, so I've ordered a new battery and found a new original OEM hard drive on eBay. Hopefully that fixes the freezing problem. I run an online business and also watch heaps of UA-cam when I'm not too busy, so my computer has run for an average of 18 hours a day, 7 days a week for 10 years now. That's a total of over 65,000 hours of use from this little beauty. I've also had to replace the charger once in its lifetime.
Nice! I now got this laptop on hand and i just finished cleaning it in my hotel room cuz i need a gaming laptop during my business trip! :)) I got this m14x r2 since 2012!
I remember my M14xR2 I had in 2012, under warranty I went through one keyboard, 2 hard drives, one battery and motherboard... not the best experience I had but the case was built like a tank, survived 3 drops (after swapping to SSD) and still going to this day. Awesome video by the way, brings back memories 👏
Every time your videos are extremely helpful and creative. You not only repair but also shows us the correct way to upgrade the old laptops that are in the way to distinct..... Excellent working brother ❤️....love your videos.....love from India....🔥
I love your channel so much! The act of restoring and putting old, but functional equipment back in to use is so wonderful. I can't say I agree with your aesthetic choices always though; the droplet effect you use on many of your computers looks like old, worn stucco from the 80s 😛

Great video! I have an old alienware m14xr2 laptop, and it had become very sticky. I eventually managed to remove the stickiness using an oven degreaser (kitchen cleaning agent).
i actually have an alienware laptop thats practically identical to this, but mine was black rather than red, tho my specs arent as great...i7 3610QM, GT650M, and 6gb ram, and a 256gb ssd. i use it to make music, and do some light gaming..particularly dishonored. love the videos
Really nice restoratuion. I wish that I coul get into restoring laptops at some point, it si really good how you do it and it saves devices from becoming electronic waste, or e-waste. Also like the addition of a 1TB SSD whilst keeping the DVD drive. Also, you don't have to remve the DVD drive for more storage. This laptop had a faulty mSATA card - so if you put in a good, fully working mSATA card, you should be able to have mSATA SSD + 2.5 SSD.
I have a lenovo thinkpad workstation with a i7 720QM and 16gb ram. Comes with a nvidia quattro 1gb video card. Works great after cleaning/thermal paste refresh. Best part is it was given to me.
Thank youu bro :D About the parts, after a decade of doing some of these things mostly I remember, but If I do something more complicated than I record the process with camera or phone or I take pictures. Particular when I do video, the process is already recorded, so I can easy check from where is what :D
