THANK YOU! I tried this recipe twice! FIRST TIME: I followed the recipe exactly as shown here (minus the need to wash the chicken after a 24hr wet brine). SECOND TIME: After removing the chicken from the parboil liquid, I reduced the liquid, added teaspoon of oyster sauce, couple of drops of fermented fish sauce, tablespoon of honey, 3 cloves sauteed crushed garlic, and dark soy sauce. I used this to brush onto the chicken after frying. I also garnished with fresh scallions! This turned out great as well! THANK YOU for sharing!
My mom shared this video with me. I’m far from home and don’t have any Guyanese Chinese restaurants nearby. This was a perfect Guyanese Chinese restaurant quality recipe that I’ll be using for years to come. My husband loved it! Frying is difficult for me because it’s not something I do at all but I did a batch in my air fryer and it was excellent! 10 minutes on each side and it was perfectly cooked through and golden. Can’t wait to try some of your other recipes 😊 Thank you for sharing 🙏
Just tried your recipe. True enough the skin turn out crispy. I just brine for 3 hours and after parboil kept chicken in fridge for 15 min to dry off. Good recipe. Can also use the broth for other meals or marinates. As I using frozen-thawed chicken legs I may want to brine it overnight for softer interior. Thanks.
Just did this..omg. my chicken was seasoned for three days just cause as we buy we do, but I boiled and fried...omg! Crunchy, flavoured perfection....amazing.

I learned that recipe from my father from *brining* (the best overnight the salt,g.b.pepper, and garlic also good for just fried chicken), *flavoring* (add lemon grass and chili for more extra flavor) to *frying* (for air frying dress the skin part of chicken w/ olive oil or melted butter and you can also grill it pasting with the mix of flavoring liquid+olive oil or soy sauce, ketchup, and olive oil mixture.) I never thought it was Chinese 😄Kinda late but Sub and belly done!

Tried this recipe on a whole chicken.....I split it in half, made 1 half like traditional Southern Fried Chicken, the other Half with this Recipe.....This Half was so full of flavor and Crispy, I will always do the Whole Chicken this way. Yeah, I wanna know too. It seems like that delicious looking broth is just being wasted. And it doesn't seem like cooking the chicken for 15-20 min in the broth will allow it to fully absorb those flavors.
@@twill1076 you can add cornstarch to thicken the sauce and use it as a dipping sauce for the chicken, and the chicken does absorb the flavors in 20 mins I was surprised it did when I I first did the recipe, I was definitely tasting the spices and soy sauce.

It can but won't taste right. It needs that sweetness in there. You can hardly taste the sweetness in the but it balance out the rest of the ingredients...the broth can be made into a sauce by adding cornstarch to thicken it.

You can add alittle rice vinegar or just leave it out. Won't make much of a difference

Hi well tried it today.. its simple and awesome recipe.The only thing that I changed on the recipe was deep frying...it was a very shallow frying yet the same texture and taste...Thanks to Candy for all that... ..hope I can share those pictures..🤠
