    Thank you for this video, I am currently a reservist, I got my degree last year, and the thought of becoming of an Officer feels like a calling I have to answer at this point.
    But I need to get Fitness up there before I feel comfortable speaking with an OSO.

    So i have a question. I was enlisted 2016-2022 so this is the 8th year for me(in the irr). I graduate in cybersecurity in December. I just talked to the oso yesterday funny enough and he told me he could get me to go to ocs this coming January. So, two questions. 1st one can you take your phone with you? Because at bootcamp enlisted you couldn’t BUT the difference is we went home for 10 days. I ask because idk if tbs is right after. Last question. When it comes to mos school is it a lot of management classes you do like how it is in college?
    For example. A marine police will learn to be a police officer
    A marine officer will learn to be a police officer but also a “chief of police”? If that makes sense

      Yes you will have your phone and whenever you have weekend liberties, you will be able to use it.
      No, TBS teaching infantry tactics. Every officer is a basic infantry platoon leader, so that’s what you learn. You do not learn your MOS until you go to your school house after OCS and tbs

    How important in the overall picture would you say employment history and extra curricular activities such as college clubs etc is to getting selected?

      Great question. I think it’s somewhat important.
      Having things that you do that center around leadership looks good.
      But I would say that it has little impact, especially if the other aspects of your application are decent. But it could be more impactful if there are other parts of your application that are less than average and you need to show more.

    I am currently a College senior about the start my final semester and I want to go to OCS should I do a walk-in with my local OSO or try and contact them and if so how would I get their information?

    • @MrJoshHodge
      @MrJoshHodge  2 місяці тому

      Google it. That’s how I first got into contact with my OSO. Submit an email and they should email you back.

    How long does it take for OSOs to respond generally? Cuz i been waiting like a week for a response to when i could do an initial meeting with them.

      Depends on OSO, if you haven’t heard anything for a week I would send a follow up email

    How did the senator and colonel know you personally to get a letter of rec?

      I worked on the re-election campaign for my state senator, so I got to know him fairly well. The colonel was a family friend.

    You have to get selected for the corps??? Dam. Yeah no offense and me being a marine myself I’d just tell them to go to the army cos instead.

      There is still a selection process for the Army too. You have to apply, get letters of rec, do interviews with a board, have very high scores on physical evaluations etc. It's not automatic by any means.
      Then there is the branch selection process. You may be able to pass OCS, but getting the branch you want can be competitive as well. Depending on demands for new officers year to year, you may fall way down the wishlist.

      @@Alex-nh7cl with the way they need numbers I don’t believe it. I speak to recruiters at every career fair and they all rush to get me to sign the ocs contract. your also guaranteed your branch in the national guard.

    • @Alex-nh7cl
      @Alex-nh7cl 3 місяці тому

      @@AlexNH56 well yeah of course you get your choice of branch in the National Guard, if you want to go play for the JV squad, then be my guest.
      If you want to be in the real Army then it’s definitely not automatic.
      Also, recruiters want you to sign OCS contracts because they get their quota number and they don’t care if you actually pass OCS or go into a competitive branch.

    Do you have any tips for a female applying for OCS?

    • @MrJoshHodge
      @MrJoshHodge  2 місяці тому

      Great question. Especially for females, it is important to have a high PFT because a lot of the females will have perfect scores. Understand that the hiking is the same weight for all, regardless of sex, so prepare for that as well.
