How do the Danners fit lengthwise? For example if you wear a 12 in boots would you look at a 12 in Danners?
That story made me smile and laugh 😂 thank u for sharing your experience. I’m a pre law student with hopes of being a marine JAG 🤞 I’m 5 feet tall and a girl but it’s been done lots before and God willing I’ll do it again
U.S. AIR FORCE is not a real military branch, no b.s., but the truth. They talk about being a warrior when they aren't. If joining the military for the benefits, money, education, etc., then just join the AIR FORCE, majority of men and women in the AIR FORCE are not a warrior but a civilian on steriods of the benefits of the military which is the U.S. AIR FORCE.
Thank you for sharing. I am preparing for Summer 2025 OCS. Hopefully I will be selected for a Reserve Slot.
Hey Josh, Can you please make a video on how to explain to your family that this is the path you have chosen? I plan on becoming a Marine Infantry Officer and am having trouble explaining to my family.
Hey! Can you please make a video on how to explain to your parents that you are planning on going to OCS and pursuing the Marine corps as a career?
No thanks. Have fun recruiting.
Hello how are you what is the kind of boots you brought with you to OCS winter? Did you get the danner reckoning gore tex or did you stick with the coyote hot.
Solid Videos man. I appreciate it!
Did you have to buy insoles for the boots? Did you have to buy a size up?
When I went through in Carlie Co 2006, we got on average about 4-5 hours of sleep per night. The number 1 reason for that were essays. But, back then a candidate could be assigned up to two essays per day for any reason. They were always due at 0500 the next day, they must be exactly 300 words (no more and no less), only words of four letter or more actually counted, and each word needed to be underlined and counted. The essays were always in pen so if you messed up a single word you had to rewrite the whole page. God help you if you didn’t do your essay because the Sgt Instructors always remembered and would come looking for missed essays. Often they would look for the missing essay in your footlocker and wall locker, and usually your rack mate’s too.
How hard is it to get accepted to OCS?
I don’t know if it is “hard” to get accepted… however it is hard to get yourself to a point, physically, to have a shot at getting accepted. Like I have stated, if you have a 280+ pft with good letters of recommendation and decent grades, I do not think it is difficult at all… but the process of getting to those numbers can be difficult…
Thanks for the video! Just got the call, im going to PLC juniors this summer
I have a meeting with the OSO next Thursday. This video was a huge help. Thank you
What was the oldest candidate you had in your OCS class, and where they able to keep up moderately well?
probably a raider who was in his mid to late 30s. Yes, he was the best in the entire class
@@MrJoshHodge nice! Thank you sir. What about people that hadn’t served to that point? I’m 30 and considering OCS.
I think 30 is not too old of an age. Many have done it. But, I do not remember many people of 30 who had not served... regardless, I think you will be fine. Do not worry. Work hard.
Thank you for this post. Question: Is there a stage (ex., last 4 weeks, last 2 weeks, etc.) where you can be reasonably assured "you are going to make it"? Granted, you can get the boot and sent home in the last days before Graduation, but if you can say, when is there the point where candidates pretty much can safely say "I got this"....(if that point exists).
@@Hatchet-wy3vn that’s a good question. Depends on your performance. If you are doing well by week 5, I think you can say you have it down. But the events get progressively harder the farther you go. But as far as the Sergeant instructors blasting you as hard, I think if you make it to week 5 and you aren’t getting fucked up daily, you should be good
@@MrJoshHodge Thank you. Please keep posting on your career and status. Thank you for serving our Country.
Oof his final pft was solid. I’m going for a 21, min, 15, 4:00. lol I’m using an assisted pull-ups machine instead of a friend. Trying to get up to a 100 a day
Failed humility.
Hi Josh -- your videos are wonderful. Thank you! I have a question about OCS that probably isnt covered: do the candidates get leave on weekdays? I though leave was always a Sat - Sun but our candidate said he is getting leave on a Wednesday which seems really odd to me.

Hi Joshua, thank you for all of the great informational content you've posted on your channel. While I understand that no MOS is guaranteed, I'm curious what yours and your colleagues experience was like regarding MOS selection after TBS? (Specifically infantry). Do you know if a majority of people that wanted infantry were given it?
@@DavidGallardo-z4s yes. But it is dependent on if you show the characteristics of an infantry officer
@@MrJoshHodge Makes perfect sense. Thank you for the response!
No ,you are being used by the system and the conversion to a Marine s brutal mental breaking and conversion to psychopath.
LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHTS!
Nothing changes..72/74. No whining, we didnt promise you a rose garden.
How does selecting a duty station at IOC happen? Do they take into account having a wife with a job near the requested station?
Yes, but at the end of the day, you go where they need you
plc Jr..1972/senior 1974. Piece of cake.
Shipping out next week… I like how bro is smiling like he’s glad he’s not there no more
I remember going through the quigly in winter and had to break ice to get in 😅
They now let gays join OCS?
Clown comment
Depends, did you get in?
Can you do a video about chits, about dealing with critique and navigating socially in an environment where people are grading you on everything. You’re a big help, thanks for doing this
Respect
I just went to PLC juniors. In terms of sleep the worst bit was during SULE week. I had firewatch the previous 3 nights in a row so I was already pretty tired, Then we get to the bivouac site and our PLT SGT assigned firewatch himself instead of letting the scribe do it so I got firewatch again, but it was from 23-00 so i got fucked again. I got like 3 hours of sleep that night because they made us wakeup at 0345 to be ready for the 4 mile hike. I was deadass falling asleep while hiking the entire time. Then we did SULE in the afternoon and everytime i posted security i was snoozing lmfao.
My neighbor graduated OCS going in as an E-8! I was blown away. He’s a Captain now.
It's amazing how fast you pick up rank especially if you have previous military experience! I am tempted but I did vow to not myself through that again. It's not the BootCamp or ocs itself that is the hardest but always being away from family and missing important events is so depressing especially as you are getting older.
Doesn’t work like that
@@davidmarod1018 yeah it does it just means he was serving in the military already prior to ocs
There is the potential at OCS to challenge you, physically and mentally. I graduated in the 34th OCC in 1963. The physical demands may be more rigorous now but I believe like Pogo, you are your own worst enemy. You have to just do what you are directed to do and don't doubt yourself. That is the lesson of combat: just do what needs to be done, without thinking about it.
Great video, I’ll just update as someone who graduated from PLC Seniors this summer. There was only 1 PFT in our 6 week course at the beginning with a 235 minimum to remain in the program. Most of the difficulty came with overall fatigue and the forge, so if you can train rucking or walking under load that’d be my recommendation. We didn’t have many PT sessions and they weren’t very difficult, so your advice on fartleks didn’t apply to our class at least. Our class didn’t do the fartlek course outside of Montford point, but being good at running and pull-ups is still a great idea. If you don’t lose your cool or get injured OCS will be a good experience.
go cocks!
Research MARSOC for the Marines. Every branch has Special Operations, that’s where you really separate yourself from the rest. Best of luck to you 🇺🇸
How do you think ill do? I run a 24 minute get a 275 pft and im currently enlisted E4
Get the run time down closer to 22 mins and I think you'll be fine
We have very similar names
You have been unbelievably helpful in my prep as a college senior for OCS, I've been trying my best to prepare to be comfortable with a competitive 5K time. I haven't reached out to a recruiter yet, and I leave back to campus for my senior year at the end of August. Should I contact my local recruiting station before I leave or wait until I graduate?
@@Jittrry if you want to do it, reach out now
Bro slept tight at OCS huh😂
Hey man really enjoying these videos. Hoping to get into the upcoming winter class. Wondering you could do a video where you break down OSMEAC and provide an example briefing. Seems like people say its good to know this before you go to OCS
@@johnnagengast7964 I have that in my video notes. Will do one soon
I just graduated from university of south carolina and have been watching all of your videos in my preparation this past month. I'm going in January. Can you make a video about the most popular mos and stations? I'm hoping to get cyber security and go to oki but I'm worried that everyone wants those.
Thank you for your comment. Go Cocks!
Is it true that all you need to start training at ocs is a pft score of 220?
Definitely not, I think the minimum is 235, but I would strongly suggest against applying if all you have is a PFT below 250
@@MrJoshHodge just curious what’s the shortest contract length one can choose from ?
@@CaliCastro650 4 active 4 inactive
Great video!
Honestly I think the middle-of-the-night fire watch shifts are the best. Nothing happens, SIs aren't yelling at you, you get sleep before and you get some afterwards.
I disagree, but would be happy to put you on the 0100-0200 watch schedule😂
I ship out to fort sill in 2 weeks ✌🏼 You shouldn’t procrastinate just enlist the more you wait the worse
Good luck!
What’s a solid running program to prepare myself for the marines?
See my video on physical prep for OCS. But 12-15 miles per week is good
Short answer. FUCK NO!
It's understandable...not everyone is the same.
What makes the grass grow?!!!
Blood! Blood! Blood!
