Is The CTX 3030 Still The Best Metal Detector In 2021?: Metal Detecting NYC

  • The CTX 3030 is a very sophisticated treasure machine. It gives you all sorts of data to inference from. It was originally released in 2014 and had cutting edge tools at the time. Since 2014, Minelab has released the Equinox 600 and 800 metal detectors which blend incredible depth with highly sophisticated target separation. I have thousands of hours of experience with the Equinox. How does the CTX 3030 compare with what I consider to be the best detector on the market right now; the Minelab Equinox. There is still a huge price difference between the two machines. The CTX 3030 is still sold in 2021 new for more than 2000 dollars while a Minelab Equinox can be secured for less than 1000 dollars.

    I like the fact that in a trashy park I won't dig up bottle caps , because of the caps position in the graph, the 800 or 600 you will get them . I have all three. I just love the target ID and Target trace.

      The Rutus alter 71 paired with the concentric coil recognizes beer and bottle caps as well. But, we better dig them all in order not to miss a thing.

    Kelly did well loaning that equipment to you to try and I'm glad you have Phil for back up. Learning complexities is difficult (for me, sewing especially) and I would go cross eyed trying to read all that. So, you are patient, a great teacher, and you're not going to give up easily. Great qualities for a hands on trainer, imo.

    I have been using the CTX since 2012 and I also purchased a Nox 800. The CTX may be heavier but it does not feel that way, it is very well weighted. I can swing it all day and I'm 63. After using both, the CTX is a Cadillac, the Nox a Honda CRV.
    Both excellent build quality, CTX just feels better quality etc, I guess the price difference. Finds, love Target Trace on the CTX.

    Good video. Yea you definitely have to get more time in with it. It reminds me of my Explorer 2. With that machine I always run it in manual sensitivity and keep it just below the chatter and thats it. Always remember too, these machines you have to go slow and low. Ive found lots of deep coins that way. Ive just recently started playing with the custom patterns. Keep at it, hope my experience helps.

    Assuming you are pressing the GB and NC by accident You can cancel them by pressing the pin point, and different coils bring different depths, change the pin point to sizing turn recovery fast off and tick recovery deep, you can build your own discrimination patterns either on a computer or through the machine itself, tadpole and ghost are good patterns, I use combined tones with ground coin target separation

    I consistently make more finds with my CTX vs my Nox 800. Don't get me wrong. It's a pleasure to swing. Especially the weight relief compared to my CTX. At the end of the day though, it all comes down to finds, and for ME the CTX outperforms the Nox. Won't part with either one though. Just as I won't part with my Excal 2 -- another beast of a metal detector from the folks at Minelab.

      Huge learning curve yes but I’m pulling from the manual in this video so I am definitely reading it. I’m very tuned into the way that I learn after struggling with reading for most of my life. Some people can absorb books and immediately apply the knowledge. I can’t. I need to tour things first and then hit the books. The learning curve also speeds up when you get the right people involved. Experts who has use the machine and can communicate what they know. A process is only sustainable if it is efficient.

    • @hoopztube
      @hoopztube 3 роки тому +1

      @@MetalDetectingNYC Best thing to do is sit down with the manual printed out, and the detector in the yard, start at page one and read, and go through and practice each setting by reading what to do then do it on the detector. And do it twice, and play around. The go to the next area in the manual.

    No offense but you got to work on those plugs. Leaving loads of dirt around your holes and not taking time to really repair plugs is bad for this hobby. Other than that love your videos. But dig a 3 sided plug leave one side attached makes life so much easier.

    If I bought this in 2014 I'd still be trying to learn it and be equally frustrated....I'm sure the 3030 is made for only a few detectorists with technological memory and a quick learning curve....600 and 800 are less expensive and would be a better choice for any detectorist.....

      No, you haven’t owned 2. If you have you didn’t use them or you didn’t know how to use them or you wouldn’t be saying what you’re saying. These are common tropes from those who don’t understand what the CTX-3030 was built for and just regurgitate forum misnomers to make themselves feel better. The chipsets for maximum performance in any category have existed for decades. It’s now about how these machines are coded with complex processing algorithms. The CTX is coded to provide the most information possible on any one target. It has not been surpassed in that ability. The equinox was built for those who want to hack about wildly among the trash. Machines that can separate are nothing new and are also old technology.
