Looks like you have been hooked by this story. You are right about how stressful this can be. It is fantastic, though. Enjoying your detailed reactions. Looking forward to the first episode of the series.

Several people have been telling me that in the comments at this point, I just misunderstood and assumed they still originated from Earth even if they didn't know it, but I guess that isn't the case 🙂
I remember, how I picked up the DVD of the miniseries back in the days. As a fan of the original series, which comes along with tons of childhood memories, I was a bit reserved at first. I liked the miniseries, but it wasn't until episode three of the first season that BSG had me totally locked in. BSG was actually the first series I straight up imported after season one. I just couldn't wait for German television to pick it up. :D
Just so you know, as good as the 2 part Miniseries is, the Series finale of BSG is twice as good. The final episode of this show is as fine an ending as ever been done on television. I heart looking forward to watching you watch it. You are in for an epic ride!
James Callis is a genius! He has the pathos of his character down pat, but also manages to add some great humor. I always get a kick out of him freaking out when six kisses him. His effeminate cry of "No!" At the end of that scene cracks me up.
Man, I'm so excited that someone like you, with an interest and 'feeling' for stories, especially in the sci-fi setting, is watching this fantastic series! I follow you with great pleasure and excitement! Thanks & greetings from Germany.
The move of Starbuck pushing Apollo back to the ship is a Hollywood take on two incidences from the Korea War and Vietnam War. Not beak-to-beak of course, but a nose-to-tail push to safety. Genius moves by two fighter pilots. I’m going to LOVE watching this series with you Sonny! Too bad Kat won’t see it - I wonder if she’d like it.
The move was also written into the packaging for the original Viper toys in the '80s -- when I saw it onscreen for the first time, I blurted out, "WHAT?! MY TOYS?! They actually did it!"
I'm not sure it fully clicked (if it did don't mind me) but Starbuck revealing she passed Lee's brother when he should have failed is a huge deal because Lee "hates" his father because he thought it was his fault Zack died.
Excited to see someone new getting into BSG. Be aware, the episodes 2x10 - Pegasus, Razor (tv movie takes place between eps 2x17 and 2x18), 3x09 - Unfinished Business, 4x12 - A Disquiet Follows My Soul, 4x18 - Islanded In A Stream Of Stars and the final ep, 4x19 - 4x21 Daybreak ALL have extended cuts. In this series, Battlestar Galactica, I ALWAYS recommend watching the extended cuts over the broadcast cuts. Just a heads up. I hope you enjoy the series. So Say We All!
Always love the gut punch when people find out who is the Cylon revealed at the end. First they make you love the character and then they tell you: Cylon!
I watched the Miniseries when it first aired and back then the network hadn't decided whether or not to continue it. They just left us with that big cliffhanger and I had to wait ages to just to find out if there would be more or not.
Told you that you would be impressed. This show was brutal while also being a message of hope. Again, I wish you had watched the original series first just to see how different this one was from the original. The first one was really just a space adventure, while this one brought the drama and darkness of the story to new levels. Such a great job of never giving an inch on the intensity and tension. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat episode to episode. Get ready for some really good surprises coming up too...especially since you are such a StarWars fan.
"Great speech so far." All of Adama's speeches, every speech in this series, is great. Absolutely Shakespearian. Emotionally, yes, can be a little thick. The ethical questions, not the space battles or Tricia in amazing wardrobe, is the point of this show. It's a military soap opera

There was a great recap website in the 90s/00s called Television Without Pity, which provided a lot of snarky recaps, and they came up with a lot of great expressions and acronyms, one of which was HITG, standing for "Hey, It's That Guy!"--the actor you've seen before, probably in multiple shows/movies, but usually only plays minor characters so you don't know their name. So when referring to Leoben, if you didn't know the character's name yet, you'd just say "the HITG they found on Ragnar."
In the original Glen Larson television series, the character named Duella in the CIC was named Athena and was Adama's daughter (Apollo's sister). Some of the changes made for the reboot (actual names versus call-signs, etc.) make a lot of sense today.
The Boomer reveal left me with my mouth open... I was like Nooooo. But her counterpart's story is so good. Caprica Six actress and all her roles in the series and Gaius Baltar? Man oh man...such talent... Gaius is my favourite character.
Suppose the Colonials reached Earth tomorrow. How welcoming would we be to them, specially considering that the Cylons and their nukes were hot on their heels? A small point that needs to be taken into account when discussing searching for your cousins in the Cosmos.
That was the great failing of the original show. Not that they had the budget or the effects to pull it off. The plan was that the Galactica would fly on, distracting the Cylons while they leaked technology to earth. What would have been nice was seeing them filter their civilians to earth to keep them safe and maybe secretly fund their own city as the origin of more and more advanced technology. A bit like what they did with Stargate, when they started to introduce technology they found into earth's mainstream.
Fun fact: the only reason they brought Carl had his own storyline in the series rather then the show never returning to Caprica and just writing him off as dead is because he was unexpectedly popular. You wouldn't know this given how integral his story became to the series and how much of the first two seasons had to be written around that but he was just that popular.
When Glen Larson created this series vonDaniken's "Chariots of the Gods" was a best-seller so the entire premises of the series was that humans came from somewhere else and colonized Earth along with a dozen other worlds that were attacked by the Cylons and their civilization was destroyed.
Just for reference, Galactica was 4,720 feet long. That 560 feet short of a mile. She was 1,761.29ft wide. That's over a quarter mile wide. She had a crew of 5,000 +/-. Her armor consisted with a inner armor covered by a ribbed skeleton bracing and then covered again with outer armor. Since a nuclear weapon in space is all high-energy radiation rather than physical damage, it could be a type of heat radiation dissipation armor. Do note that missiles and other projectiles do physical damage.
i am truly enjoying re-watching this magnificent show through your new eyes. thank you so very much. i am looking forward to this journey together. So much more fraking things to come, lol
everyone wonders why they see soldiers laughing all the time or making jokes and its really the only good way to get through tough situations. id be willing to bet good money that no matter how far back you go the best jokes have been told on battlefields the world over
Just a clarification... As Elosha says at 26:14, Earth is a colony founded by the 13th Tribe from Kobol and is not the original home world of humanity. That puts a whole new twist on the entire story.
One thing to keep in mind is that this show was made while the U.S. was dealing with the aftermath and ramifications of 9/11, and in particular overlapped with the invasion of Iraq. Ron Moore, the show’s creator, has a military background and used the show as a way of exploring the complex and difficult political issues of the time. It’s not a coincidence that a lot of the iconography of the show directly evokes the post-9/11 era. Think the survivor tributes, the newscasts, even the way Colonial One is modeled directly off Air Force One. BSG is not a perfect show, by any means, but it was (and remains) one of the best political dramas of the early 2000, and one that was extraordinarily brave and unusual for the way it unflinchingly confronted the Amurrca-first jingoism of the War on Terror period. It’s also anchored by one of the greatest casts of all time. For the few of us watching this show as it aired, it was apparent right from the beginning that this was something special.
Just think how long the rest of us had to wait for the series to start. Luckily, the first episode was so well received, that they immediately green lit the series.
I really like that they don't shy away from the tough decisions that have to be made to survive as the show progresses. Top tier writing for 20 year old show.
This is why, I DON'T think they should do a "ree-do", but a "new story" instead...; when/IF they ever pick up this show again. Spoiler...??? (The story is such, that you actually CAN do a "wheel of time" sort of thing.... Like...story told at another turn of the wheel... 😉)
This is the show that changed tv sci fi. Up until then sci fi shows were very lighthearted (Star Trek, Stargate, etc). BSG showed that tv sci fi could be dark, adult and serious. BSG did what Game of Thrones did with fantasy later on.
Re: Earth: It’s not the original homeworld, according to the show. It’s the planet their scriptures tell them the 13th tribe of humanity went to after leaving Kobol.
The show immediately establishes that life isn't fair. Gaius and Six are great together. Starbuck was weak once, and it got her fiance killed. Never again.
The Miniseries, and the opening episodes of BSG, are Seriously GRIM. But really, for humanity to pile into whatever ships they can scrounge up, and sail out, into the void, hoping to find a habitable planet to call home out in the vast barrenness of the galaxy, things would *_have to be_* exactly that dark, exactly that hopeless. _"All that we can do is just survive."_ But for all that, it's one of the best shows you will ever watch.
Great reivew. I love this series it was great, one of the very few instances where the remake this series was better than the original series from the 1970's. One small point, Kobol was the original home world, not Earth. Earth was the 13th colony of Kobol far away from the other 12th.
Thanks! And yea, several people have been telling me that in the comments at this point, I just misunderstood and assumed they still originated from Earth even if they didn't know it, but I guess that isn't the case 🙂
I grew up a Star Trek fan in the 1970's and never cared for Battlestar Galactica with a stupid half furry robot/dog thing. I always thought of Battlestar Galactica in the '70s as a more than cheesy (made for tv) knock off version of real sci fi. Then this miniseries came out in the 2000's and omg it's so good. Watched these as they came out and couldn't get enough. Since I can't watch it again for the first time, it is a lot of fun watching you squirm lol. Looking forward to your reactions to the actual series. Your speculation sometimes is exactly what I was thinking at the time, sometimes not so much but still fun to watch either way.

I'm blocking the words Earth and Kobol, because I'm growing tired of seeing the endless comments about Sonny misunderstanding. Yeah yeah, we get it - humanity didn't originate on Earth in this universe or whatever.
you misunderstood, human beings did not leave earth and colonize Cobol, is just the opposite, they came from Cobol and colonized the 13 colonies, 12 are known, and one is lost, which is earth
30:58 Wait, wait, in this universe it was Kobol that was the original home of humanity. 12 tribes left and settled on 12 colonies (they have zodiacal names), while the 13th tribe went the other way, settling on a world they called "Earth", but this tribe was since then uncontacted, and became half-legendary. Most of the people (except for the Sagittarians) came to think that "the lost tribe," Earth, and even Kobol, is just a religious myth. *That's basically the lore revealed in the miniseries. Pay attention to what the priestess says.
@@leonardodavid4670 Yep, I did. But I get it now that this is a different version of Earth and human history, as you and many others have told me in the comments.
@@MaciejBogdanStepien I just misunderstood. But I get now that the Earth in this fictional universe is different from ours when it comes to human history and so on. And I did pay attention to what she said, but simply took it to mean that the history of Earth had been completely forgotten, but that that was still where they originally came from. "No more Mr. Nice Gaius!" - James Callis for the win!
You are in for such an amazing ride! 😁 My favorite show of all time.
Are the extended cuts only on the dvds?
@@karlarden6260 Yes, as I far as I know, theyre only on the dvds or on blu ray.
Always love the gut punch when people find out who is the Cylon revealed at the end. First they make you love the character and then they tell you: Cylon!
Damn, it's almost 20 years. And this is still my favorite sci-fi series, closely followed by Expanse and Space: Above and Beyond.
quality never gets old.
Please check out Space Above and Beyond! You don’t even have to react to it, just for your own enjoyment!😊
@@m.e.3862 Such an underrated show
You are in for 4 incredible seasons.
I wish I could relive watching them for the 1st time.
I'm jealous.
This is still my favourite sci-fi series to date.
Congrats on 80K
👍🐶❤❤❤

I have watched your videos here and there for years, but I subbed up because of these reactions. Thank you!
"Great speech so far." All of Adama's speeches, every speech in this series, is great. Absolutely Shakespearian.
Emotionally, yes, can be a little thick. The ethical questions, not the space battles or Tricia in amazing wardrobe, is the point of this show. It's a military soap opera
just like the expanse, you can look forward to the bg show having some of the best space battles ever seen on television.
So I’ve watched up to Ep 5 on Patreon, and decided then to set aside my DVD box set because man I didn’t remember it looking so meh, and I rebought on streaming. Quality is so much better, glad I did, #worth! I’m already on S2 😂 binging ahead, but will still be rewatching each full Patreon reaction and YT edited versions again!
Galactica wouldn't have felt the G-Forces. The Galactica would have anti-G-Force devices built into the ship.
when they had to leave all those ships behind was so upsetting ☹️
In the original Glen Larson television series, the character named Duella in the CIC was named Athena and was Adama's daughter (Apollo's sister). Some of the changes made for the reboot (actual names versus call-signs, etc.) make a lot of sense today.
The Boomer reveal left me with my mouth open... I was like Nooooo. But her counterpart's story is so good. Caprica Six actress and all her roles in the series and Gaius Baltar? Man oh man...such talent... Gaius is my favourite character.
Love this series way too much and I can’t bear to wait, Patreon joined! 👊
Much appreciated, Hoople ❤️
Funny Lil Gal sent me and I can tell you are really going to have a good time reacting to this show. I'm looking forward to it.
I also loved "Caprica" which was only 1 season. It is a pre-quel to Battlestar Glactica
The Boomer reveal was pretty awesome, when I first saw it.
It's not quite Expanse-class cliffhanger quality, but it's up there. 😀
It was an evil call. We shouldn't have to make tough decisions.
When Glen Larson created this series vonDaniken's "Chariots of the Gods" was a best-seller so the entire premises of the series was that humans came from somewhere else and colonized Earth along with a dozen other worlds that were attacked by the Cylons and their civilization was destroyed.
I'm so happy you are watching this show, knowing you like sci-fi and this is GOOD sci-fi .....
The Boomer reveal is such a moment. This series is a lot like Game of Thrones as in Don't Get Attached. Looking forward to your reactions.
BSG is great. Ive got the DVD Collectors set. Fun Fact: Tricia Helfer, Caprica Six, also voiced Sarah Kerrigan, The Queen of Blades in StarCraft 2.
Really excited that you're watching this series!
i am truly enjoying re-watching this magnificent show through your new eyes. thank you so very much. i am looking forward to this journey together. So much more fraking things to come, lol
20 years on and almost everything about this show is still timeless... except some of the haircuts 😂
everyone wonders why they see soldiers laughing all the time or making jokes and its really the only good way to get through tough situations. id be willing to bet good money that no matter how far back you go the best jokes have been told on battlefields the world over
Just a clarification...
Boy, you are in for a treat with this show and a hell of a lot of surprises in store.
You're gonna love this series so much! Just remember it's a post 9/11 series and a lot of the thematics resonate with it, cheers from France!
Just think how long the rest of us had to wait for the series to start. Luckily, the first episode was so well received, that they immediately green lit the series.
someone is invested. hehe. awesome to see. you are going to love it.
Great reaction to a great show.
This will be quite the ride. By your command.
I really like that they don't shy away from the tough decisions that have to be made to survive as the show progresses. Top tier writing for 20 year old show.
Lol. Top tier writing existed long before 20 years ago.
This is why, I DON'T think they should do a "ree-do", but a "new story" instead...; when/IF they ever pick up this show again.
Spoiler...???
(The story is such, that you actually CAN do a "wheel of time" sort of thing....
Like...story told at another turn of the wheel... 😉)
I envy you getting to watch the rest of BSG for the first time all over again.
This is the show that changed tv sci fi. Up until then sci fi shows were very lighthearted (Star Trek, Stargate, etc). BSG showed that tv sci fi could be dark, adult and serious. BSG did what Game of Thrones did with fantasy later on.
Re: Earth:
It’s not the original homeworld, according to the show. It’s the planet their scriptures tell them the 13th tribe of humanity went to after leaving Kobol.
Thanks, Sonny! 🌠 #KatAndSonny #MichaelRymer #BattlestarGalactica #BattlestarGalactica2003
the next episode is considered one of the best opening episodes for a tv series.
The show immediately establishes that life isn't fair.
Gaius and Six are great together.
Starbuck was weak once, and it got her fiance killed. Never again.
BSG fan since watching the original as a kid in the 70’s…this series was 99% awesome!!! The 1% is for me to know! Lol Enjoy!!
The show is even better than the mini series. happy you are watching this, We will watch your career with great interest

EDIT:
Hi, this is Kat.
I was clearly wrong in that assumption.
@@KatSonny so many spoilers! This entire discussion should wait until season 2.
In the original show in the 70s they made it to earth. In this one, well you'll just have to find out.
Everyone has that reaction to seeing Sharon at the end.
This is one of the best science fiction series of recent times and if you liked the miniseries, the series is going to excite you, with many more surprises, so go ahead...
legends have always a base in reality.
44:00 Risky plan... this is only the begining ! You'll see some things you never saw... not even in Starwars !
Okay, here we go! Let the guessing-game beginn - who's a Cylon and who's not?! 🤔😅
I really enjoy you watching BSG and looking forward to the rest of the Series - It'll be a fun ride!👍🏼😎
So say we all!
The relationship between Adama and Roslin is such a core element of the show.
Both these legends are icons of what real leadership looks like.
Buckle up, the ride gets bumpy on the way to Earth
