During the filming of the scene where Lee and his Father argue about Zak, his Father has his back to him the entire time. The director couldn't figure out why Olmos did that during each take and kept telling him to turn around, but he never did. Finally the director took Olmos aside and asked him what he was doing. Olmos replied that Adama literally can't face his son because as much as he denies having any responsibility in Zak's death, in his heart he does blame himself as much as Lee does. So he's talking to Lee with his back turned because he just can't look him in the eyes. So the director let Olmos shoot the scene that way.

My favorite Sci-fi show. One of reasons is I was in the Navy and this reminds me of my experience on a ship than any other show. It’s the little things, the sounds, the looks; however it’s the way they talk to each other. “Make a hole” is said all the time on a ship. You loose a lot of politeness in tight quarters. You don’t have to like someone, you just have to trust them to do their job. This show does not hold back on topics no other show will even touch. It is part military, political, religious; however it combines them well. It is a reboot, a lot of things come from the original show. You may want to watch that after the show. Also understand this show came out just after 9/11. It deals with a lot of what was going on at the time.
So, a few notes from someone who's way too into the lore The Baby crack- 6 broke the child's neck because she knew what was coming, and wanted to spare it. (You can tell from her face it wasn't something she wanted to do, but something she felt was best, regardless.) In her mind, it was an act of mercy. Baltar didn't KNOW Six was a Cylon until she told him in the show- he just thought she was a hot blonde chick (who was useful to do some of the coding work) who was also into shagging him. Now, it's not good to let the little head take over, but when the reason looks like Six (and presumably is very good at what she's doing, in several fields) its harder to ignore Lil Jim. Indeed- he was three days from retirement =p (Well, not sure about the actual days left, but definitely hitting that trope.) Oh, the (new) President was 43rd in line of succession; she wasn't 43 years old (or, maybe she was). The explicit reasoning for that number was who was US President at the time, (GW Bush was the 43rd President)
The scene on the Riverwalk - with the baby. I don't think I am alone in looking back at it, realizing she was mercy killing the child, sparing it from the painful holocaust about to come
I forgot how good this series was. It was great watching this and Star Gate SG-1 when they were on air at the same time. Definitely brought back great memories.
SG-1, SGA, BSG. What an all time lineup on Sci-fi channel, three hours of greatness every Thursday night for a couple of years when they were all airing.
This is a really nice surprise I wasn't expecting! I loved this show and hope you do too. It's so compelling and really well done throughout. I know you've got a long way to go before then but, once you're done, there are a few BSG DVD movies to watch too ("Razor", "The Plan" and "Blood & Chrome". The first two take place during the show, but the last one's a prequel to Adama's first mission on the Galactica as a young man).
This is great. BSG is one of my favorite shows of all time, and many consider it to be one of the best sci-fi shows ever. The mini-series and ep1 should be enough to get you hooked long term.
If you love Stargate you'll love this too. Imo best TV series hands down. I wouldn't call it short though. The miniseries was a backdoor pilot there's four seasons spanning 76 episodes (not including the mini-series) and two full length made for TV movies.
They learned a lot for the original show. Knowing where this is going explains a lot of the details they introduce in the mini series, especially the depth of the characters.
I actually really like fiction where you see people after a civilization ending event work together to piece together something like normal life. These first few episodes really deal with make the very hard decisions when there are only 50,000 humans left in the universe.
SG-1 was 10 seasons and 2 movies, Battlesrtar 2004 was 4 seasons and 2 movies, both succesful. Battlestar is more compact and definitely has another tone.
The fire, and the way it's dealt with, is a callback to the 1979 series and the episode "Fire In Space". In that episode, a Cylon fighter crashed into the portside landing bay, starting fires next to the fuel lines, and everyone had to try to stop the fires before the fuel was ignited. And those of us familiar with how space works were shouting, "Just evacuate the landing bay to space!" No air, no fire. In this show, that's exactly what Tigh did. Also, the "Captain Apollo" routine is another callback to the old show. In that one, the character's name really was Apollo, and his sidekick was Starbuck. In this one, those are their callsigns - Capt. Lee "Apollo" Adama, and Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace.
Amazing series. I remember it getting critically raved about at the time - absolutely adored by scifi fans and serious, heavyweight TV critics (and even political pundits) alike - still one of the best TV series ever. And it all started from This miniseries...
Oooh, good choice. The miniseries is probably my favourite of all sci-fi series openers. It works perfectly on its own too. I'm a big Babylon 5 so if you ever hit that I'd be super pleased, but we've got a few reactors already covering that one so I can wait, for now. :)

There's a Battlestar Galactica board game (it's not supported anymore because the creators didn't want to pay for the license), and one of the mechanics that is the most like the show is Crisis cards - at the end of every turn, there's a... well, a crisis the players need to overcome. Most of the time, the reward for achieving it is that _nothing bad happens._ There's very few occasions where you can get an actual positive outcome, and sometimes you can only choose which bad thing happens.
The Galactica is a Jupiter Class Battlestar. Because they couldn't use much in the way of technology against the Cylons in the first war, since they could also infiltrate networked or advanced computers even then. Even the Galactica's guns and cannons are manually fired by crew personnel, because automated guns couldn't be risked. The Battlestars made up for their lack of technology with extreme toughness. Their armor is tough enough to withstand multiple nukes and smaller missile strikes and they pack a ton of firepower. They're literally floating fortresses in space, built for very heavy firefights and long deployments. The Viper MKII is also very limited with any kind of networked technology, which is why the Cylon Raider couldn't shut down Starbuck's Viper. They have Dradis, which is their version of radar and other than that, they're just designed to be fast, maneuverable and carry as much firepower as they can fit into them.
This will be absolutely one heck of a roller coaster ride for you!❤ I'm going to sub just to watch you finish the series. (you won't be able to resist)😊
Hey, if you want some additional shows to check out if you haven't, there's a few I can recommend (depending on if you haven't seen them yet): 1. Knight Rider (1982-1986). 2. Defiance (2013-2015, co-created by Rockne S. O'Bannon, who created Farscape). 3. Dark Matter (2015-2017, co-created by Stargate co-creator Joseph Mallozzi). 4. Killjoys (2015-2019).
BSG is quite possibly the finest - certainly ONE of the finest - scifi shows ever developed for television. At least, this reboot is - the original was a slab of fairly standard 70s scifi cheese. lol. Make no mistake, though - this is HARD scifi. There's very little fantastical, semi-magical stuff going on here. It all feels very grounded and "real".
This show oof this was when sci-fi was still sci-fi . Absolutely love BSG. Good to see people give it some love. This is space opera more than sci-fi but you should enjoy it.
This is a GOAT scifi series. I hope you continue with it and can avoid the copyright issues some have had with the series. BSG is more than just standard science fiction stuff and seems to be a human drama in a scifi setting more than it's pure science fiction. You just ended "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" which was heavy on the emotional human themes and BSG is the perfect series to follow up with despite the different setting and genre.
love your channel one of the few actually doing an SG 1 full serie reaction and Im glad you like it. As for BSG im only gonna say this : buckle up , you have no idea what you got into :D PS : when you start the actual BSG episodes perhaps watch 2 in a row ?
One of my friends is not a big sci-fi fan and I told him well we are gonna watch BSG and you are gonna love it. Of course I was right. After each episode he was ok what happens next.
Thank you for doing this. You are in for quite ride. This show is absolutely one of my favorites. This show only gets like 10x better the more you watch it. They go into the history and mythology of the show and their search for the 13th tribe and there are twists and turns later on in the 3rd and 4th seasons that will blow you away.
@failwhale34 you had me worried. I got to the bit with the laser boobs and thought perhaps you weren't ready 😂. It's a great series, you're going to love it.
@@failwhale34 I've been here all along with all the Stargates. It is sort of a religion. BTW, I watch on TV 99.9% of the time so I don't comment. As for me being a Cylon, who's to say!!! MWAHAHAHA! 😉
Just wait, this show only gets better ;) The only lore that has been shown so far (in case you didn't pick up on it) is that there were 12 colonies, aka 12 planets, that these humans were spread across. Each planet is named after one of the zodiac signs, but with a slight twist, Caprica = Capricorn, Tauron = Taurus, etc. Forty years ago these humans created a slave race of machines who rebelled and went to war against their masters, the humans won but they did not wipe out the machines they only drove them away - now the machines are back and as you saw they just obliterated the 12 colonies and just about all of their ships. The Cylons now hold all of the cards.
for me, with babylon 5, one of the best series ever made. a lot of people didn't understood the last scene of the last episode but it's not so important.
Welcome back to me! I used to watch your DW reviews but dropped out as I did with the TV show, over casting choices, plot choices and the creative team. But I'm certainly back on board if you're doing BSG! I do think maybe you've been misled - 53 episodes plus the mini-series isn't exactly short. But is really is a great series. So put aside your oddly-shaped playing cards, punch a superior officer in the face, strap yourself into your Viper and let's go!
26:37 It’s not actually in the future. This is a reboot of an older series. In the original, it was set in the modern day. Earth is just separate from the 12 colonies because they branched off in ancient times.
After all the shows you have been watching i was wondering if you would ever get to this. Being a fan of the original it's rare to see it done better decades later.
This BSG reboot is a landmark in Sci-Fi excellence. But....................... let's keep our eye on the prize. I'm jonesing for more regular SG1 reactions. !! SG1 also has a reboot/refresh is the final seasons. And, ties in with SGA. So say we all.
I was just watching another reactor doing BSG yesterday and i paused the video since you uploaded that crazy SGA episode and i said to myself that it would be cool if you reacted to BSG and just today you drop this gem So say we all
The gritty reality brought to this SF show made it one of my favourites. On one level it was so grounded, but on another, tried to ask some very deep and complicated questions. I don't think it was always successful in the latter, but the writer's strike of that era probably didn't help. It is still an amazing piece of television - not just great Science Fiction, but a great drama, from a time where a series could run from 12-20 episodes rather than todays' 6-13.
This series was made only a few years after 9/11, so the grim mood and dreariness were pretty much the norm of the time. Lotta relatable moments for those that were old enough to have an experience of the world at that time. There are extended episodes, webisode series and movies to this series, so I hope you have a decent watch list.
A top 5 series for me. Will be even better for you as there will not be the schedule F'ups that I had to go thru while watching it week to month to week to 2 months. Others have reacted but I am gonna watch you as you are into SyFy.
*SO SAY WE ALL!* Part 2 next week.

Love you birdguy 🙏🏽
On of my favourite sci-fi of all time. You are in for a treat... So say we all!
A very gritty reimagining of a cheap 70s TV Star Wars knockoff. The handheld cam shots and the missiles instead of lasers made this a great show.
One of the greatest SciFi… or just shows, period… ever.
Woohoo, absolutely love the series, looking forward to tag along :))
Hey, massive Farscape fan here, and BSG is the only replacement. I waited with baited breath to rent the new season every time it dropped. Enjoy❤
Best sci-if series ever. So happy you are watching this. ❤
Digging it heavy so far! 😭
This show oof this was when sci-fi was still sci-fi . Absolutely love BSG. Good to see people give it some love. This is space opera more than sci-fi but you should enjoy it.
"she's not snapping the babies neck, relax"........................................
(I'm speechless)
💚💚
im literally reliving mid 2000s sci-fi channel sci-fridays
i'm so happy😅
Thank you so so so much for reacting to this!
"A man isn't a man until he wears the wings of a Viper pilot"
One of my friends is not a big sci-fi fan and I told him well we are gonna watch BSG and you are gonna love it. Of course I was right. After each episode he was ok what happens next.
Thank you for doing this. You are in for quite ride. This show is absolutely one of my favorites. This show only gets like 10x better the more you watch it. They go into the history and mythology of the show and their search for the 13th tribe and there are twists and turns later on in the 3rd and 4th seasons that will blow you away.
I'm 52 years old and a lifelong SF literature fan, and student. This is the single greatest SF show of all time. Enjoy.
Love it!
Very happy to see this! I can't wait for you to go all along the watchtower!
So say we all!
Welcome to the big leagues Mr Whale....this one is Sci-fi for grown ups.
let's get it DAVID
@failwhale34 you had me worried. I got to the bit with the laser boobs and thought perhaps you weren't ready 😂. It's a great series, you're going to love it.
Fracking awesome! Lots of surprises ahead for you in this show. Gotta see if I can find my Cylon toaster.
DON!!!! ❤️ hope all is well been ages. Hope you’re not a cylon
@@failwhale34 I've been here all along with all the Stargates. It is sort of a religion. BTW, I watch on TV 99.9% of the time so I don't comment. As for me being a Cylon, who's to say!!! MWAHAHAHA! 😉
You're watching BSG? Oh hell yes. You WILL enjoy this, mate
Just wait, this show only gets better ;)
The only lore that has been shown so far (in case you didn't pick up on it) is that there were 12 colonies, aka 12 planets, that these humans were spread across.
Great miniseries, looking forward to this!
Finally, someone does this! It is one of my absolute favorite shows ever. Thank you!
There are a couple channels that are doing it and have done it
Funny lil gal reacts just started it as well. Her Expanse and Firefly reactions were quite enjoyable.
0:00 OMG You sir are in for a treat watching this
YERRR
for me, with babylon 5, one of the best series ever made. a lot of people didn't understood the last scene of the last episode but it's not so important.
Here we go, one of the best sci-fi shows ever made
"She connected to your ethernet cable!"
Oh, is that what the kids are calling it these days...
I'm a fan of both 1978 series and the 2003 reboot, and currently building a bsg model fleet.
Here to hype the edited vid!!! Love you
Welcome back to me!
So put aside your oddly-shaped playing cards, punch a superior officer in the face, strap yourself into your Viper and let's go!
glad to see you again Mark :) appreciate the comment
I'm so in for this. It's an excellent series.
The serie Caprica is also part of Battlestar Galatica.
I did like that too!!!
BattleStar Galactica is one of my favorite shows. I hope you love it too.
26:37 It’s not actually in the future. This is a reboot of an older series. In the original, it was set in the modern day. Earth is just separate from the 12 colonies because they branched off in ancient times.
Oh no you didn't!!!! Battlestar Galactica is a masterpiece this warms my heart indeed :)
I was just watching another reactor doing BSG yesterday and i paused the video since you uploaded that crazy SGA episode and i said to myself that it would be cool if you reacted to BSG and just today you drop this gem
So say we all
So Say We All 🙏🏽❤️
What was that sound? Err baby's neck snapping 😱
Holy shit. You've arrived at the goat of all sci fi
I think you mean far into the past.
You are going to love this series my dude
The gritty reality brought to this SF show made it one of my favourites. On one level it was so grounded, but on another, tried to ask some very deep and complicated questions. I don't think it was always successful in the latter, but the writer's strike of that era probably didn't help. It is still an amazing piece of television - not just great Science Fiction, but a great drama, from a time where a series could run from 12-20 episodes rather than todays' 6-13.
Aw man, I still remember when I watched the show for the first time, I was still very young, I had a crush on Boomer (Grace Park) xD
This show is stellar, pun intended.
I'm sooooooo in!!!!! I love BSG!
