      That's awesome! I actually forgot about this video lol. Lot's of tips and tricks in this one! I'm glad it helped :).
      If you do end up making the star with a 1x8, let me know how big it ends up being in the end. I made a 24 inch star using a 2x6 with 54 degree angles. I imagine the 1x8 will be pretty big even with the 45.
      Cheers

    Thank you Savvy Builds.
    I read in the comments that you would explain too much, but that is actually nice. If you have no idea how this works, it is very difficult.
    You have to know what to measure, to saw it to length
    I have now made 2, a smaller one from 18mm plywood, and 1 from 18mm MDF (this one with the 54 degrees).
    I think because MDF is nice and flat, this one is also almost really close to the sawn surfaces.
    Now make the 8 point star again, I also like that one.
    Thanks again very much.

      Thanks! I appreciate you saying that. It's hard to know what people want sometimes. I would like to make another 8 point star before Christmas. Currently editing footage for a 3d star!

      Kind of, Check this video at the 18 minute mark: ua-cam.com/video/QFJ5Vq7HXAU/v-deo.html
      If you are using 1x4 stock try 15 degrees instead of 25. 25 is for the beveled star.

    First of all awesome vids. Make a zero tolerance plate out of wood. Tape plastic ones on the miter saw , then unscrew, plane thickness of hard wood stock to thickness of plastic ones, take the taped plastic plate and use that with double sided tape and use as template and mark screw holes use counter sink bit then screw on and cut trough. Your back and front hopefully are connected and should fix your bending into blade issues for good. Looks nicer too.

    What about pre-staining the boards before the glue-up? I think I will use Alcohol inks for mine after I Shou Sugi Ban them. Great colors. You could also use the piece that you cut off at the beginning.

    Interested to understand how you set saw to 31.6 degrees.

    • @savvybuilds
      @savvybuilds  Рік тому +3

      Great question! Miter saws have a pre set angle at 31.6 for construction applications. So it sits in that position quit nicely. Just like when setting to 45, it locks in that position automatically.

      FANTASTIC video!! You keep doing what you’re doing in your videos. I have learned so much from your explanations. I gave stars for Christmas gifts this past Christmas and everyone loved them!! The tape is brilliant because it only takes the tiniest amount of ANYTHING and your star becomes firewood 😂. I’m definitely trying the dowel jig. What did you attach the nut on the drill bit with?

    • @savvybuilds
      @savvybuilds  Рік тому +2

      @@cohenhix9612 This is great to hear! Thank you! I filled the nut with 5 minute epoxy, which I also got from the dollar store, let it dry, then drilled into the center of it. It's tight enough to stay in place but I can still move around. You can also add washers between the nut and the chuck to adjust the depth a little more.

    What is the angle of the drill guide jig?

    • @savvybuilds
      @savvybuilds  Рік тому +3

      I cut an oak 1x2 on the miter saw with one of those "steep angle jigs" and set my saw to 15 degrees to cut diagonally. Then I made a small groove down the middle of each piece with a v-cut router bit and glued it back together. The groove helped to guide my drill bit when drilling the initial hole at the correct angle. Hope that helps :).

  • @City-Hiker
    @City-Hiker 3 місяці тому

    Actually. You should cut 36 degree is better because a circle is 360 degrees. If you make a star, each piece is 36 degrees, 10 piece will be 360 degree.

    • @savvybuilds
      @savvybuilds  3 місяці тому

      Actually that's not quite right. The center angles are 72 degrees when you ad up both sides (36+36=72). Then 72 x 5 = 360. Even though my saw is set to 31.6 I'm getting 36 degrees (x2) on the center angles because I am starting with the piece already at a 45 degree angle. If you are referring to the points... I have a few other videos about stars with the points cut at 36 degrees vs 45.
