The level of detail you did for this is incredible! Even your "rejects" look great!
I was having some next level withdrawals. Glad to see you back. Merry Christmas
But unlike Bob Ross, you do not want any "happy accidents".
I always enjoy chasing through the geometric gymnastics with you on these projects! The stars look incredible... Watching your process solved a production issue I've had. I had not thought of mounting a block to the face of a destaco clamp... That was the detail I needed!!! I hope you, Chip and Mrs. Next Level have a great Christmas and I look forward to seeing the projects you will share with us in 2022!
From a young carpenter and wood worker. Thank you for the knowledge. You can't pay for what you teach
My feelings exactly.
Hats off to you Sir ! You are not just a carpenter.....You Sir are an Artist, a kindly Artist !
Very informative, detailed and precise. I love your use of jigs and fixtures. Your take on design and fabrication is immensely satisfying, as it pays the necessary attention to the 'quantum' level of making. Good job!
Its name is Latin for normal, referring to a right angle, and is variously considered to represent a rule, a carpenter's square, a set square or a level, very clever Matt !!!
What was the total time cost from idea to 1st finished product, including the time to develop the methods?
Merry Christmas Matt! Thank you for the great content. :)
How much wood could a Skosher cut if Skosher could cut wood?...about a skosh. Love the stars and your videos. Thanks a bunch and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
Yoooo funny guy! 😁🤣🤣😎
Watching this video made me realize that at least 90% of the problems I have with the things that I build are rooted in me neglecting to pay sufficient attention to stock prep. Looks like there's a planer in my future. Thanks again Matt. Also that's a hell of a fixture man!
Have you tried it with a dowel! I think that might work, too… after you cut your first pass, it’ll automatically be indexed into the next cut.
Also… I love your 1 skosh and 2 skosh block! Lol.
Hi Matt,
Again as usual another great video...I love the star and detailed information on the star making machine...that is a great fixture, I may attempt to make one of my own...thanks for sharing your thoughts with all of us..I hope you and family members have a great Christmas and Happy New year!
Your U-Tube Friend, Ed🎄 😉👍👍🍺
Would be interested in learning how to make the jigs used for cutting out the star parts. 🌟
Thank you for the detailed instructions. This is the first time I’ve watched your UA-cam channel. If you are not a professional teacher you should be.
Great video! And I've just started watching.
Here's a video idea, similar to this one, and there are practically no videos about this on UA-cam and the ones that are there are not easy to follow.
The idea is barn stars. I'm sure you've seen metal ones but I'd love to make a wood one. Big ones. There's some crazy angles for them to be 3D I think.
Hopefully you'll like the idea.
A Star is Born! 🌟 Incredibly intricate process for creating a precision ornament. Heirloom quality, for sure! 👍
The directions are very detailed. The complication of the fixture would keep me from making this type of star. They are beautiful though. If you provide a pdf with directions it would be very keen bd of you and I’d be willing to pay for the pdf.
Nice video. Do you have plans for the jig? Are you selling completed jigs?
Great video, was wondering if you might have plans available ? Thanks
Thanks so much! Really enjoy hearing about the development of your methodology and thought processes!! That makes the project lesson much more valuable, as those can be applied to other complicated joints and projects!! Merry Christmas!
I smiled through this entire video. Half of it was watching the star come to life. The other was giggling at the complexity of the jig and how it was making my head spin. This was a wild trip.
My head hurts! The work and creativity you put in boggles the mind. This is THE most fascinating video I have seen. You should sell plans for the jig. These stars are phenomenal.
Thanks Dave... glad you liked the video but sorry about the headache😯 If you like it for complexity you might like this video too: ua-cam.com/video/v-sdNZ_ObYQ/v-deo.html but keep the excedrin handy! 😎
I really love your Christmas builds! Thanks for another great year of videos!
Fantastic as always Matt! Thanks and Merry Christmas!
This video was cool, but have you considered making a video where you show some jigs that cut multiple complicated angles?
Great job. Truly beautiful. Lapping block using a belt. Is there a drawing or plans?
These 'best blocks for demanding sanding' are probably what you're looking for: ua-cam.com/video/qxvfIw84i-Y/v-deo.html
You totally lost me on the squaring process. Suffice to say they need to be perfectly square and keep the maple in the center. From there on I was OK. Very neat process. Good use of scraps.
Sorry about that... it might help to re-watch that part of the video because it's a great way to get perfectly square stock but, if you already have a process you use and like there's no need to re-invent the wheel for my sake. 😉😎
Im impressed, very well thought through and great instruction!!
Thanks for watching and commenting on this one!
Désolée mais trop longue et uniquement réservé à un publique professionnel donc vidéo inutile car non adapté à tout publique
What world do you live in that makes you think I had any intention of making this in-depth video 'suitable for all audiences"?! Dude: get a life!
awesome video, wonderful editing....perfect results. Thank you Matt. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Chip and Mrs. NLC. Oh, and Norma....can't forget Normal (she's kind of a square)
Constellation Norma is a small constellation in the Southern Celestial
Hemisphere between Ara and Lupus, one of twelve drawn up in the
18th century by French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille and one of
several depicting scientific instruments. Its name is Latin for normal,
referring to a right angle, and is variously considered to represent a
rule, a carpenter's square, a set square or a level.
Made it easy for people. 😉
After watching the ENTIRE video I am quite simply... Star Struck. (Or is it Star Stuck?)
Very, very cool. I love that jig setup. Thanks for the video!
P.S. Norma, the carpenter's constellation. I. Love. It.
Intense
When I get a mechanical engineering degree and my machines set up to give me square and true cuts, I’ll be able to make a star shaped Christmas ornament or I’ll just go to target and get one really similar that a 5 yr old Chinese child made for .50! (All said in jest). Good job on the ornament, but again, that’s a hellava lot work for an ornament!
Beautiful project. I love the precision. 👍Thank you for sharing. Have a great 2022 and stay safe.
Truly next level.
Brilliant, the nicest looking stars on UA-cam.. You should start producing these full time in January and I bet you'd sell every single one of them by Christmas next year. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
✨Happy holidays, Matt and Chip✨
Very beautiful stars! And, so many great tips and procedures. I especially appreciate learning about Constellation Norma.
🤫✨
Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas to you as well. Interesting reference to constelllation Norma. Well done :) Those who want to can look it up themselves, I wont spoil it. Good stuff. BTW.. great job on the stars.. I watch your videos and reminded that I am a hack of the lowest order. Love the attention to detail and the thought process. 2 ⭐⭐ up.
Thanks Mate, no cnc, just plain good tradesmanship. Well done. I'm inspired, as usual. Bob
You have done a wonderful job, love watching your video's, thank you for sharing. x
An excellent excellently produced video by a master woodworker and creative mind! Thank you - and to all of us, a happy 2022! 👍
They are beautiful, and your making process is mind boggling.
Have a happy and safe Christmas, and I look forward to more videos from you in the new year.
Wood magazine put out a half lap miter joint jig to use on a router table. Can you make a video about that? Making it/using it?
Fabulous Matt !
Thanks for investing the time to bring quality educational instruction and tips.
Merry Christmas to you and your family !
Constellation Norma, nice touch Matt! Merry Christmas to you and Chip and thanks for the great videos.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the NLC community.
Christmas is in millimeters 😂😂
Merry Christmas and safe New Year to all the talented makers like Next Level. I enjoy your channels greatly.
I really wish I still had my wood shop so I could make some of these. If you make a larger star and drill a hole from the center of the outer valley you could make a tree topper.
Happy Christmas to you and your family Matt and a better New Year
That was a lot of maths but the results were amazing. Merry Christmas.
Hi Matt... another great video, I so enjoy watching... one of the things that graviates me to your work are the jigs. You maybe making Christmas Stars... BUT as I'm watching my brain is thinking JIGS. The tools (those JIGS) you make, make woodworking fun and enjoyable... Jigs are those tools and you are a Master of them. As always I watch 2 or 3 Videos each morning with my coffee this was one and also I bought a DW735 a couple of months ago so a refresher course this morning on your videos on the DW735 Planer. Been making some cutting boards for Christmas gifts and experimenting with size and add on features... using Jigs. You do a great job before the camera... I know personally about how hard that is... I don't get editing it's live of me... believe me your excellent, you make it fun and at the same time interesting and educational... so I'm out here watching, learning and enjoying. All the Best, keep up the good work... Bob.
Thanks for lettin' me know, Bob Snow... much appreciated!
It's especially meaningful as I sit here looking at other wood ornament videos in the What To Watch Next selection and notice how many exceed the 18K views this video got in the last year. Not all views are created equal and it's rewarding, from a creator's view, to learn viewers like you find enough value in a particular video to take the time to add a thoughtful comment.
Best,
Matt
Outstanding content as usual! Love the detail you put into these videos! Happy holidays!!!
Seems like the stars really aligned to make this project work
Hello. I'm a tool & diemaker of 42 yrs. I always thought I got in the wrong trade. I should have done finish carpentry, which must be so rewarding when all done. I sure did enjoy your precise craftsmanship. I signed aboard just to come watch a Master at every level of making this video and carpentry so well done!
Yo... funny you should say that. I've actually had the opposite thought over the years that maybe I should have taken up tool and die as a vocation. YOUR precision makes tolerances for even the best finish carpentry look like a hack job when comparing 'tenths' to 64ths! Thanks for 'signing up'... much appreciated. Best, Matt
Thanks That was fun
Matt, as always, an awesome video. Some how I missed it on the day you posted it. I always look forward to your new videos. I just utilized your in-depth video on maintenance on my DW-735 planer. I went to use it the other evening and the belt decided to disintegrate on me. I appreciate you sharing your extensive knowledge with all of us. May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year🎉.
Thanks... glad to hear you found this video even though it wasn't on publish day. Glad to hear the video was helpful as well... although not to glad to hear you needed it😉. Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to you too! Best, Matt
How did you make your jigs for this?
All the explanation/demonstration I have is in this video. If you're not able to figure it out from that then I suspect this project might be a bit ambitious for your current skillset.
Simply beautiful and brilliant. Well done sir!
After years of searching, I’ve officially found my favorite UA-cam channel. My goal for 2022 is to watch all your videos.
Glad to hear it... I wish you well on your early New Year's Resolutoin Luke! Thanks for watching and commenting...
Best, Matt
Great video and they will make great gifts. I really like your thinking out of the box to solve the different issues with the glue ups and cutting the angles. Great work.
Thx Danny... the stars are actually quite fun to make and have been well received by all recipients... hope you have fun if you decide to make some for gifts.
Best, Matt
V.v. good
Thanks for sharing those tips and the make!
Great video ... Merry Christmas
I must say this is the most complicated video I’ve ever seen anyone make . The end result is out of this world (pun intended) The only thing I would suggest is to make the cutting of star pieces & assembly first. That way myself, for example , could determine if that part of this project is within my skill level. Learning how to laminate and square the basic pieces is easy compared to the cutting , and assembling. Star making is definitely “Next Level”
This is a "complicated video" for sure Michael... unless you compare it to this one: ua-cam.com/video/sxBsNEYp140/v-deo.html 😉😁😎 Best, Matt
@@NextLevelCarpentry The video isn't complicated. But the project certainly is.😀😀😀
Absolutely ridiculous!!!!
Ridiculous, you say? Interesting...
klasse Litauen
Craftsman level excellence!..
Merry Christmas Matt.
Good job Matt ..
Gotta love saving the therma tru door handles
Those handles are just too good to throw out with the rest of their packing materials, right?! 😉😎
Good stuff
Very well done. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you Herman... 'tiz the season, you know😉
Hi Matt,, No doubt, another fabulous video chocker block full of next level detail and master technique,,, exactly what we've all come to expect and appreciated about NLC. I always learn something new after a session with the Chief Elf and star dust maker. Here's wishing you and all yours the best Christmas and continued success and health for the New Year!
