Hi David I have lost my queen I don't know what to do now as I don't have an extra queen to replace the lost queen. should I wait till spring and give them a new queen
I opened my hives yesterday. I will open them again in a couple of weeks. I will open them in January. I am going to open them in February. I love having bees in SW Florida. (I HATE S.W. FLORIDA) Beekeeping is year round here. It is only cold enough to keep the bees in the hive maybe 3 days.
To get the powder to mix without a Ninga you can put the powder in a bowl and add a little water at a time and stir. Like you would to make a gravy with pan drippings and flour.
Dave here in Michigan the bees have very little brood if any at all in December. So your bees look like normal December bees to me. Nice strong hives though👍
Yes, I usually remove the comb closest to the wall which rarely has the queen on it, then I leave that frame out, as you can see in many of my videos. This gives me adequate room to slide and separate frames so when I lift one out I'm not rolling bees.
On a personal note I also have loved ones I am missing. Holidays is the hardest. As for the inspections, I find you do start yours different than I do. I would be afraid of rolling the queen off if I were to select a frame close to the center. That is the reason I like to start from one side. Have you not rolled any queens off?
Dave, your wife emailed me back and said you have a possible spot available for mentorship? Is that true? I’m in SWFL. It’s about 80 degrees here. Thanks
Sorry Jason, I do not keep track of the total membership. I hope there is a spot for you. When spots open up, they go fast. Here's the link: www.honeybeesonline.com/beekeeping-mentor/
At out age the hives are twice as heavy and our hair is ‘just as thick as it always was!’…bees, on the other hand, are dead honest. They keep us humble.
I put a pattie on a couple of my smaller hives trying to build them up for winter. A few days later my hives are full of fire ants. Any suggestions on getting rid of fire ants? Thank you so much. Love your channel.
Ants are tough to avoid. Most beekeepers will place their hive on stands and place the feet of those stands in vegetable oil so the ants cannot get to the hive. I've heard a ton of other folk lore stuff from queen anne's lace, to cinnamon etc.
Really enjoying your content David 👍🏻 I’ve recently started researching the world of beekeeping and your videos have been great. I like the human touch and openness. Hope you’re well
I sometimes have the blending issue with dry lemon powder (baking, not bees). I have found mixing the lemon and sugar first is best...then clumping won't happen when you add the water to blend.
I have a jar of pollen in my fridge, can I mix it with local combhoney to feed a new nuc when I get it? I figured it would be more nutritious for them and they could reuse the wax in the comb
Hi David... I have my hive about 20 metres from rear house door.. Bees seem to follow the bright kitchen light and flus into the house... Not many just a few... How do I stop this from happening...? Will it help if I move the entrance ,just turn the hive entrance away from door..?Bees will be able to find the entrance on opposite side?? Thanks love the channel...
Ha David great video thank you for sharing about your life your dad sounds wonderful I am so glad u were so close to him, My bees have eating all there candy as well each hive got 12 lbs of candy and it it is gone. 16 days they ate it I say I am a good cook they like my cooking. They like your cooking as well. I like u talking doing the video and I love the inspections I compare your with mine. Hi David, Thanks for the video. I live in the Bay Area and put solar in 3 years ago, it's great. Our system covers all our needs and more. We have very high utility cost so our system will pay for itself in 7 years. In addition we get a check from our utility company at the end of the year (it's not much but it's better than us sending it to them). Good luck with it.
Why are you feeding pollen and hoping to see a lot of brood in December? The conventional wisdom would be to discourage brood production this time of year.
Great video. Always enjoy all the insights you share along with very informative Bee knowledge. South East Ga here and this past weekend was almost 80. Beautiful weather. checked all the colonies and added pollen patties. found plenty of stores, Brood, Larvae and even some Drone brood in one Hive. Time is short before these bees start ramping it up again.

Hello David a question come spring time when it is time to add a super . If I have a super on now an it has sugar syrup in it that was in there from winter if I take the frames and extract the syrup out how can I make sure that all the syrup is out so I can use that frames for the season as a honey super. If I just let the bees finish cleaning them out that looks like they would just put it right back in . Your thought in what I need to do . Thanks
