Maynard has made his one public appearance for the year. He will now return to the unknown shadows until 2024.
You ready for the next album coming out soon?
@@China_Secret_Police this rewired album is so sick, Trent and Atticus didn’t have to go that hard on Apocalyptical
She came out on stage after his concert back in Hamilton was weird I was like wow
Who knows if that's even him, could be a body double
Ummm this is like his third podcast in 4 months. Pay attention
My wife and I were in Cottonwood, AZ a couple years ago and we randomly ended up walking right past Maynard as we were leaving a nice little breakfast place, we totally made eye contact and I could tell he was thinking "please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me." I love his bands but I also know he's not a fan of 40 year old neck beards like me gushing over his music so we walked right past him.
I hope I have the strength to do that if I ever walk past someone like Maynard. You’d have been his favourite person on earth for those few minutes after you chose to leave him be. That’s probably the best compliment you could give him lol
@@TheHulksMistress I mean the thought of having an awkward interaction with someone you look up to should do the trick.
Hes a real dick in person. He would have just ignored you anyways
I ran into him, while wearing a perfect circle shirt ! In the flat iron Cafe there in Jerome, which is a tiny little coffee shop, he was the only person in there and looked right at me and then at my shirt then back at me with the please don't ruin my morning look on his face ... I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say so I just gave him the nod, showing I recognized him but wasn't going to shatter the peace of his morning... I ordered my coffee and sat there listening to maynard and the batista chatting and even got to take part in the convo about the weather and the river and such ... as he left he gave me a nod , probably his way of thanking me for not making a scene... honestly I panicked and couldn't think of anything good to say... other than I've seen Tool 20 times and now I'm going to kidnap you!! 😂
@shaunpfaff4574 hahahahhaa! That's awesome, I've also been to that Cafe, Jerome is an awesome place.
I am a 75 year old female fan of Tool and particularly Maynard. I discovered Tool late, meaning in the last six months, during my recovery from breast cancer surgery. I am so fortunate to have not missed this experience. What joy I have had! Truly. I have listened to Fear Inoculum daily, as well as every other recording of Tool. I listen with my iPhone and a low priced set of earphones. I looked up the proceeds to musicians for listening through my iPhone music. I feel like I’m cheating the musicians for not purchasing the “physical” music. (I’m trying to find the best way to reward you, the musicians. How can I support your music the best way possible, considering my age and abilities? I guess I need to visit an Apple Geek. Just know I love your music, your talents.
This might be my favorite tool/Maynard post I’ve ever read. I wish you well and I hope you delve into some of their other music particularly lateralus, 10000 days and ænima. The earlier stuff is a but angry so if you want to dive deep into your own anger feelings if you come across that undertow can help you really feel it better than any expression of pure hate and rage that’s both prog rock at its heaviest and also beautiful undertow is Amazing. And don’t worry they get paid by Apple to have the music streamed. A lot.
He has a other bands as well! Perfect circle and pusifer. The man doesn't make bad music or wine.
This is beautiful. Never stop listening and know we're all listening along as well :)
Ah you're still in that starting phase where you don't get tired of Tool, it just gets better and better the more you listen. Lasts a couple years!
I've been listening since 2009. I don't think there's a single week that goes by when I don't listen to Tool, APC or Puscifer.
Wishing you peace, joy and happiness Internet stranger!

Bullshit
Did you give maynard a ring dinger?
@@Humblemumble7 Why is it bullshit?
Maynard is just a human like everyone else. If he meets someone with common interests he’s going to engage like anyone else would.
And going on a bus isn’t some sacred ordeal.
The front (living room) area is a common space & artists aren’t controlling of that space.

What a great interview. Maynard seems like he’s very comfortable and kudos to everyone living the sober life. It’s inspiring.
When you get older you stop partying or you get health issues or worse.
Hey Tara, please read what I posted above? I think you'll understand it.
Fuck that smoke crack.
As long as you have an effective way to unplug and de-stress, a method to achieve deep relaxation, then the sober life is ideal. If you’re no good at decoupling from stress, then find a healthy way to experiment with exogenous substances to learn more about yourself.
At what part does he talk about the sober life?? Time stamp please
I just got tool tickets for this year. My whole life has been about my mom wanting to see tool with me, so I finally made it happen. I’m so fucking excited dude!!

What a show! It was my first time seeing them live. The no phones rule was super dope. 👌

@Morgan Hi, Morgan. I like what you posted. And you're right. Also, I have never met, or known anybody besides Maynard whos lyrics are so Self-Criticizing, but put forward in a way, lyrically that could apply to ANYONE human. ... only other I can thing of is the brilliant LEWIS TAYLOR, who just released an album "NUMB" after 19 years of quitting the music industry altogether. Check him out.
I’m 39 years old and I work with a guy who’s like 22 I wanna say? But I started talking about Tool one day and he had no idea who they were and it kinda blew my mind a bit because of how well known Tool is. I dunno… I guess I’m getting old

As a huge fan of all of Maynard’s work, I’m glad people got to see this side of him & know that he too, has a sense of humor & is in fact, just a “regular” person!! Great podcast!

@Ryan Rix that's awesome to hear!
All through the nineties and 2000's, I could only speculate on what Maynard could be like. I've been a fan since 91 or 92, I am 42. It must be weird for him to have touched so many peoples lives with his art. Tool feels like they evolved and grew with me.
I love knowing he’s more like me and not just a bitch musician. Grain of salt. As many musicians are.

For my mom’s 80th birthday, I sent her the “Judith” and “Sober” videos, some Maynard interviews (Beato, cockatoo, barefoot on the sofa, Lars) and his bio. Waited a few days. She calls me back and announces “I’m in love!” My sister caught word and checked out the same stuff. She calls me and she’s speechless, fighting back the tears. A lot like Steve O was at a point in this video. My sister is a neurologist in her 50s. My sister and Steve O don’t have much more in common than being human. Yet here Maynard is having the same impact. If you could put this in bottles.
Mjk is a difficult interview ESPECIALLY for a fan. SteveO and crew nailed this. Maynard was relaxed and natural conversion ensued. Beautiful!
Not really….dude loves the sound of himself talking.
He has never appreciated (more like understood) his fans as much as other bands, but still love him. The tool show we went to, he stood with his back to the fans the entire time.

He's always been Cool And Sarcastic Smart Ass In His Interviews
@@miguel-db9xf Not true. Nearly every interview outside the last say ten years or so were nothing like this one or his Rogan appearances. The sarcastic and smart ass part has always been a component but unless you were someone he respected, and was excited to talk to, his responses to questions were short and often sarcastic and you got the feeling he'd rather be doing anything other than that interview but I get it, he's an introvert that back then didn't want the attention and exposure but I'm glad he comes out and shows his face on the interwebs more often these days. I love hearing what he has to say and very much enjoy these long form discussions but part of me misses the mystery of the man/men behind the music that I fell in love with.
He was like this on JRE, if he likes the interviewer/podcaster he’s a warm and funny guy.
I've been to a lot of concerts, of every genre.Tool, by far, is the coolest, most mind-blowing show I've ever been to.

Yes but it has gotten to the point where maynard can’t even accept the most simple compliment about the band. He says “okay” When told the band is awesome live. Now I get it. you have people constantly gushing over tool his entire life, he wants to squash it. He doesn’t need anymore compliments.
But he should grow to the point where he just says thank you and moves on. If I was there I woulda made it a thing. I’d be like noooo me and stevo here saw you live and it kicked our asses. Maynard sounds like a total introvert. As I've gotten older, Ive totally changed into that, and everything he says resonates with me.
Everyone who says he is arrogant, doesn't respect or understand what it's like being an introvert with the kind of fame he has.

We rarely want to make small talk, especially with strangers, and for the most part hate attention. This is likely why for the past 20 yrs his position on stage is up beside Danny, out of the focus and spot light.
One can only imagine what kind of disruption his fans have had in his life over the last 30 years.
Clearly he just wants to do his thing and be treated like a regular person.
TOOL was a TOOL to save my life and open my mind. Very grateful for the music you have created And amplifying many experiences along the way!
Maynard talking about martial arts and remaining calm is SO TRUE.
I remember my first Randori.. my sensei was putting in ZERO effort smothering me.. I was going 100 mph full fight or flight mode.. he looked at me calm as could be and said.. "Breathe."
It was an experience I will never forget. 🥰
Tool and Puscifer have been life-changing.
"That's a cute riff, stay in your effing lane." 🤣🤣🤣 The humility and humor is superb!
EDIT: This is probably my favorite interview ever done by 2 of my favorite people, absolutely hilarious!
Loved that line! 😂 one of my favs
@@christabarrier8753 It's pure gold! 🤣
Congratulations on 5 years Vinnie....amazing story and that shits real!!! It was a chance meeting that was ment to catch you off and remind you of what you are going to not trying to accomplish!
I've enjoyed Steve-O so much since he made the decision that saved his life. I'm also glad that MJK has come out of his shell, especially since he wrote A Perfect Union of Contrary Things. To have them together is truly a gift.
its crazy that a band that became popular while I was in junior high, is still my favorite band after 30+ years.
long live weird musicians, right? And even the weirdest become normal as they get old. Now we're all old. No more mystery. But, T00L lives forever!
@@shellacbigblack yes maynards first interview was so awkward.. and the fuscia mohawk or whatever it was. can still remember that. lol
Maynard talking about Argentina wine. It makes me happy. Viva Argentina.
❤️❤❤ :') 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
@15:57 Steve-O... You got this, man. So much respect for how far you've come. As much of a fan as I am of the final product of his musical contributions, Maynard should be interviewing you, honestly.
You were not a dork steve-o!! You stayed Calm the entire interview with one of the coolest lyricists and vocalists in the world! Right on...I drink my energy drinks to your episodes every morning and what a treat it was to see this name in the title ...badassss!!!
This is awesome! My two favorite dudes in the world, Maynard and Steve-O!
Much love !
Always something to learn when listening to James. That man lives life to the fullest
I love the fact that he mentions joseph Campbell which led into the segway about manifestation and letting go and how you can’t make a bad decision you can only learn from a decision that leads to an educational experience or make a successful decision was the best part of the interview.
Tool has been my favorite band for like 15+ years and I love every single project the guy has done! Even got the lateralus eye tattooed on me!
What I notice with Maynard he is always evolving in is life. Its very impressive as another human watching him.
I thoroughly enjoyed that; really good interview! Thanks Steve and Co.!!
This is the first episode of your podcast that I've seen/heard/realized that you do, and i gotta say man, you have earned another subscriber. You totally hooked me with MJK (favorite band for the last 25-30 years) and I'm not only surprised, but impressed at the way you professionally conducted the interview (except for that one moment where you almost gargled his marbles on camera, for free i might add) and were fun but not a dork. Great job man, I'm officially addicted to ANOTHER thing now
Same, same!! This was amazing!
Literally got a new Puscifer shirt in the mail today.
Timing is impeccable.
synchronicity. means you're connected
I wish you would you would have asked him about the time a fan jumped on stage during a tool concert and he hip tossed the guy and held him down during a song. He kept singing perfectly the whole time and the rest of the band keep playing like nothing was happening. I think he wrapped the mic cord around him neck at since point too. It was pretty crazy.
He talked about that on Rogan. Check it out.
My favorite interview you've ever done. I've been a fan of his since day one.
Great interview! Really like the laid back nature of Steve O's interviews.
As far as worlds colliding, this the most excited I've been yet for one of your podcasts. I've been a huge fan of both of you for more than half my life as you say, so this is a super cool crossover for the pop-culture of my own life.
Maynard is organic as a human can get. An inspiration to all in work ethic and having individual purpose.
Hey Everyone, as a session musician/singer/performer.. at 48:00, Maynard answers the question which I've read so many posts about on here -"H'es lost his voice", etc.. And individually said this in response... Not many people realize how difficult it is to do what Maynard does so well WITHOUT wrecking their voice for the remaining songs in a set list. He perfectly describes it, better than I could.... And my family's musical pedigree is gigantic, I learned from THE BEST. So for all of you who think he is just naturally and emotionally venting - he is to a large extent. But live, it is a very controlled, clinical way of doing things as not to wreck his voice too early during a set. And that is why TOOL list the live songs the way they do. The same also goes for Danny Carey, because of the incredible load of sounds he triggers. A balance always has to be struck correctly.
Great interview with Maynard. I wish he said those things years ago, but ... that's how time works on us all. Learning from experience is great. Best of luck with the upcoming tours, products, shows, and so on everyone.
Maynard aimlessly rambling is so great 😅
I needed this my 2 biggest Idols/role models In life love you guys
Weird since these two are complete the opposite of each other
@@viking_nor They are very different but very similar in a lot of ways like similar interests.
Tool/ Sober video still gives me the chills
