I feel compelled to provide the proper context to Maynard's recollection of his time in the US Army during the early-mid '80s, where soldiers underwent extensive training for desert battlefields specifically. Maynard states he now believes those drills & maneuvers were by design; evidence of a premeditated, long range plan to invade the Middle East several years in advance. That is not the real reason for that specific training. The reason the US military began focusing on desert landscapes at that time was because during the time Maynard was in the Army, the United States was still involved in the Cold War- the ideological battle of capitalist democracies vs. Communist dictatorships; waged by the United States and the Soviet Union. By the late '70s, the Soviet Union had sought to expand into the Middle East and were already currently engaged in a war of conquest against Afghanistan. The consensus opinion inside the Pentagon at that time was that the USSR would next march into more Middle Eastern nations; some of which were major US allies. So the motivation for the military transitioning from preparing soldiers for conventional battlefields to desert battlefields during the time Maynard was in the Army in the early-mid '80s was because it seemed likely that the US would soon need to deploy military personnel overseas to assist their Middle Eastern allies in their upcoming struggles against the USSR. Not because a decision had already been made several years in advance to go to war in the Middle East decades in the future. The school of thought during the early '80s was that the US would never again be unprepared for any type of terrain after being caught with their pants down in the jungles of Vietnam, and that the next battlefield would be a desert landscape. The military's desert preparations were always carried out with the assumption that the enemy America would be fighting in the Middle East would be Soviet soldiers, not fighting the Middle Eastern states themselves.
Perhaps so, perhaps not, but the plan, which ever it was, ended up very convenient for colonial ambitions United States have been realizing in Middle East for decades, and keep doing it at this day.
Are they in any way satanic or negative ? Or are they just some Cambridge university esoteric old school rock band ? Idk I'm trying to get a feel of what kinda guys are in this band and what they truly stand for . Replies ?
They are a really good rock band. The kind of guys in this band are very smart and the band it self is only one part of their lives. It doesn't completely consume them. The lyrics and music will definitely be a lot to take in. So don't ruin it for yourself and go slow when listening to them.
Their intention was never to be "edgy" or "cool" really. Just Keenan's humor in an ironic way. The band is kind of their own experiment where they don't give a shit about people's thoughts about them or the music. I like that about them. Nothing further than "here's what we made so here you go".
He was in Tucson and he was selling his wine and at that time i was young so i begged and begged my mom to give me just a little bit and she finally did and it was pretty good hahaha. (dont worry she is a good mom)

Awesome interview
Did he say Incest burning? 0:21:16
What are your specific, primary sources for this perspective?
CNN, of course.

Did anyone else hear him say "invest burning" when they were talking about the flowers everywhere and holdin hands during the vocals?? HAHAHA!!!
Thank you. THAT is the most ironic comment I've ever received. Genius.
Are they in any way satanic or negative ? Or are they just some Cambridge university esoteric old school rock band ? Idk I'm trying to get a feel of what kinda guys are in this band and what they truly stand for . Replies ?
No. Tool is about exploring human consciousness. Tool IS an exploration of human consciousness.
When you think of tool think of the LSD culture. Theirs references to it everywhere in their music, album covers, etc.
Not satanic or negative, but 'deep' in subjects of consciousness exploration, which often comes from a dark place.
Massachusetts loves you mjk.

Who's the fella interviewing Maynard? He was not prepared. Side note, there was a DJ in my town that asked Maynard, who Judith is. Maynard's reply was, "Ask her."
Hey buddy, I think it is Marc Maron :)
