This is exactly why I want to see his videos expand to similar games like Mario or previous Sonic games. Or hell entirely different games that would be fun to see.
When it was originally leaked that the spin dash would be in Frontiers, I wondered if it would be similar to Adventure games or Lost World since that game has the same director as Frontiers (Morio Kishimoto). However, I genuinely do believe this is the best spin dash in a 3D Sonic game ever since there are so many uses with it. You can spin dash drift, spin dash stomp, can cyloop while using spin dash, etc. It’s a mix of both Adventure’s and Lost World’s spin dash together.
I think what makes these updates so interesting is that we don't have to wait and wonder for years if the next game will feature improvements to the formula or better level design. These updates *already* show that they're learning and applying from the strengths and weaknesses of the base game.
Every time a new frontiers update is about to drop I can always look forward to: - new content to spice up a game I greatly enjoy - bickuribox12 sharing his thoughts on the previous update It's a flawless pattern.
Honestly, I kinda appreciate the delay on it, because even if not necessarily the case, it gives it the feeling that he didn’t just rush to get a video out, but took his time to experience the aspects of the updates and get his thoughts together on it.
Another thing to note is that you can drift with the spin dash. All you have to do is boost, slide, hold the left trigger and aim where you want to go. This can be helpful for quickly changing direction and your camera. What’s funny is that it’s actually BETTER than the actual drift in the 3-5 Cyberspace level 😂
Yeah in general, the spin dash in Frontiers just has a lot more uses and experimentation compared to previous 3D games that used it. Frontiers definitely has the best spin dash in a 3D Sonic game
@@TonyaHasAGun As someone who cites Adventure 1 as the best 3D Sonic has ever controlled and ultimately my favorite non Boost game in the 3D series - I'ma have to agree with you, 100%, Frontiers has the best spindash.
It's become abundantly clear that it's not only a combination of boost and momentum-based gameplay that's the wave of the future; but the manner in which both gameplay mechanics interact with and feed into one another.
Don't know why, but the image of Sonic on his hands and knees, begging the Elder Koco to please take away the upgrades he gave him is just hilarious to me

I was asking people about this months ago. So Extreme Difficulty does infact raise the point requirements even higher (particularly over Hard difficulty)?
The point requirement isn't the hard part though, actually defeating enemies to get xp at level 1 attack and being able to die in one hit is what makes it hard.
@@XavierDaSallaWhy do you doubt they changed it? It changes with the other difficulties, and extreme is known to change values of other game mechanics from the base game, like fishing prices and CS times. You can easily test it though by finding a ACC and doing them on both difficulties.

It's kinda interesting to look at both the Boost and the Spin Dash working as a more modern way to have a Super Peel Out and Spin Dash. Both with their own uses and utilities.
As far as I'm aware, "Maintain boost during a jump" is actually referring to being able to hold the boost button and still be in a boosting state when you land after jumping (as opposed to having to press the boost button again). The jump deceleration slider is what controls whether you maintain your speed when jumping. (Could be mistaken on this, though.)
From what I noticed, when you have boost during jump enabled, rather than immediately reducing your speed to your airspeed value when you jump, it instead slowly reduces it to your airspeed value (unless you have the air decel slider reduced? Bring it to 0 and there's practically no difference other than that you need to press boost again when you land)
@@windy3935 okay how about this: Default max airspeed: the speed you can accelerate to from 0 even if you were already in the air Running max airspeed: the airspeed you have once you hit max running speed on the ground and then jump, it'll carry that same running speed into your jump (higher than default max airspeed) Max boost speed: self explanatory So let's say you have air decel at 100 (default) and boost maintained during jump off: When you boost and then jump while holding it, you'll have boost speed on the ground, but the moment you jump, you'll go to running max airspeed instantly, and you'll have to press boost again when you land If you have air decel at 100 (default) and boost maintained during jump *ON*: When you boost and then jump while holding it, you'll have boost speed on the ground, and when you jump, rather than your speed being cut significantly instantly, you'll decelerate to your running max airspeed, and you won't have to press boost again when you land In either case if you have air decel at 0, your speed in the air will not reduce by itself, however you'll have to press boost again when you land if "boost maintained during jump" is turned off, though really, if you have it turned on, there's no reason to unless you absolutely can't stand having to press boost again or something Hopefully that made more sense
I can say that the new physics settings immediately felt SO MUCH BETTER when I turned them on for the first time. I really liked how the Action Chains and Koco Challenges actually utilize the open environment to its fullest. Definitely gonna play it again to prepare for The Final Horizon
Yeah, being able to actually keep your speed when jumping has literally turned me from a Frontiers hater to a Frontiers fan. Keeping that momentum has turned the game from a 3/10 (in my personal opinion) to a 7 or even 8 out of 10. It's incredible how much better the game is now.

My favourite part of the Action Chain is how deep cut of a reference it is. That mechanic and its name was ripped straight out of Unleashed...on the fucking Wii. That was my first 3D Sonic game so that mode made me smile ear to ear.
I like how they gave us the crown for 100% completion, but they very easily could've given us Caliburn and an entirely different moveset like you suggested, and Excalibur Sonic as a super form
I also found the new koco challenges to be really exciting and fun, so I hope they can integrate it into level design in future games without all of the spammy assets. it was some of the most fun I've had playing sonic frontiers and sonic in general

Great video! I like that you went into detail on the new platforming challenges. I feel like no one is talking about them as much as the Spindash but I really appreciated how much they added to this game’s specific brand of gameplay. The first and second updates have really boosted where I rank Sonic Frontiers among other Sonic games by several games which I never saw coming. I thought it’d just make the game a bit better, but they really have changed the game’s enjoyability a ton. This has become my second favorite controlling 3D Sonic game after Sonic Adventure now. After the 3rd update I’m going to go into new game + with a full upgraded Sonic and the Spindash and whatever this 3rd update brings and I can not wait!

The 100% reward would be so much better if they also gave him a red cloak to make him look like King Sonic from the Archie comics, and then also Caliburn because that's just cool. Would be so dope
The more you talk about and show gameplay of frontiers the more I learn to appreciate it. I might even decide to finally pick it up and play it once that final dlc comes out
Sonic Frontiers being a game that is getting updated that already has enough content in the base game is honestly great. While some of the stuff in said updates could’ve been in the base game, it’s still good to see a game that stood on it’s own at launch without everything needing to be added via updates.
Honestly, I think Sonic Frontiers deserves to be re-review once Update 3 comes out. After the previous 2 updates we got, this game has changed so much that it doesn't even feel the same as it did when it first launched. Sonic Team and Kishimoto has listened to all the criticisms and feedback for the game and now they're fixing all the issues while also giving us something new in return for free. Sonic Frontiers has been on a winning streak lately since it first came out. And the updates just keeps making the game better, new, and more fresh the more I look at it. This is definitely one of the best Sonic games to have come out period.
I really really love the direction these DLC updates have been carried in. Obviously it's adding new stuff to the game, sure, but the whole point of Frontiers was for Sonic Team to push their limits and really try to innovate their work into something new and fresh, both for them and for the audience, and these DLCs seem to act as their primary way of saying "Okay, it's flawed, but we have a good base here. Let's see how far we can push it." Freeing up Sonic's movement to an admittedly monumental degree in several ways, new platforming that's genuinely creative and challenging (moreso than the rest of the game's island platforming), adding things like the spindash as something you can unlock in a 2nd playthrough, which is incredibly obvious that most of the game wasn't built for it but offers an entirely new and *really* fun way of navigating the world. In my mind at the very least, it really does seem like Sonic Team is genuinely proud of and happy with the game they built and the new direction they've gone in, now using this extra year of opportunity to fix and address certain criticisms, implement game aspects that they initially had to cut due to time, and basically using the game as a testing ground to figure out what else they can really do with this new gameplay direction, not only to make Frontiers more fun but (most likely) to directly use what they've found works as inspiration and ideas for the next mainline 3D title as well. Here's to hoping that Update 3 turns out well, but regardless, Frontiers really does act as a landmark for Sonic Team, and it makes me really excited to eventually see what they have in store next after Frontiers is fully done and dusted.
One thing for anyone who wants the Spindash in a file with stats at level 1 is to play through the game in Extreme, get the Spindash, and use the save for New Game Plus in any other difficulty.
I've watched every one of your sonic videos (Some twice cause of the laughter it brought lmao) It's been so satisfying hearing someone properly describe what each game does best, it's flaws, and what amazing things it started and/ or added!
I just made that same point.
As for you igirj, can you explain that better??
@@windy3935 okay how about this:
Default max airspeed: the speed you can accelerate to from 0 even if you were already in the air
Running max airspeed: the airspeed you have once you hit max running speed on the ground and then jump, it'll carry that same running speed into your jump (higher than default max airspeed)
Max boost speed: self explanatory
So let's say you have air decel at 100 (default) and boost maintained during jump off:
When you boost and then jump while holding it, you'll have boost speed on the ground, but the moment you jump, you'll go to running max airspeed instantly, and you'll have to press boost again when you land
If you have air decel at 100 (default) and boost maintained during jump *ON*:
When you boost and then jump while holding it, you'll have boost speed on the ground, and when you jump, rather than your speed being cut significantly instantly, you'll decelerate to your running max airspeed, and you won't have to press boost again when you land
In either case if you have air decel at 0, your speed in the air will not reduce by itself, however you'll have to press boost again when you land if "boost maintained during jump" is turned off, though really, if you have it turned on, there's no reason to unless you absolutely can't stand having to press boost again or something
Hopefully that made more sense

My favourite part of the Action Chain is how deep cut of a reference it is. That mechanic and its name was ripped straight out of Unleashed...on the fucking Wii. That was my first 3D Sonic game so that mode made me smile ear to ear.
I just love doing them you sour over the island finding attractions and getting high scores
"Always down for a tower climb", huh?

i think the only other place ive ever heard the term beast in repose is an mcr song loll

@@bickuribox12 fuck yea
I like how they gave us the crown for 100% completion, but they very easily could've given us Caliburn and an entirely different moveset like you suggested, and Excalibur Sonic as a super form
Your approach to this and your script-writing are both impeccable! Not a dull moment, very entertaining!
I also found the new koco challenges to be really exciting and fun, so I hope they can integrate it into level design in future games without all of the spammy assets. it was some of the most fun I've had playing sonic frontiers and sonic in general
I am so excited for update 3 man. I love Sonic Frontiers and I also can’t stop thinking about this game. Also man this channel is like my comfort channel. I come back to watch every video all the time and it’s like an absolute treat every time you upload. Thanks for this upload man. Always a treat
These videos have a flow to them that's as great as having momentum based Sonic
I love how your channel is so healthy after so many realm videos man, i love this channel, greatest wishes for the future man you're doing so good. god bless you. I don't even watch or play this game but I watched the entire thing, not because it was a bickuribox video (that would be part of it if it was difficult to watch) but because it was genuinely extremely high quality that you barely see on youtube nowadays. great video
I am counting the days until you drop your video on update 3. Holy fuck what a ride.
i just rewatched your first frontiers video today and get the notification for this. impeccable timing
The freedom of maneuverability in this game is so nice. I hope whatever follows it can keep that feeling.
bikuribox12 is literally the best UA-camr of his kind. For real. I will rewatch his videos the humor is so good. 10/10. Cannot wait to see the Update 3 video.
Keep it up, man!
26:04 I think it’s a crown 👑 because of the memes the fandom always send kishimoto or other people doing great with making sonic games. It’s a image of sonic with a crown from a comic I believe and the meme says for you king or something like that
Or no it says you dropped this with sonic having a crown 👑 in his hands
What’s weird is even if the HUD is off during birthday mode it still has the birthday HUD elements. So basically they just put an overlay on the screen where the HUD would go.
This guy is the only sonic channel/ sonic news channel that continues to make me laugh, bros a comedy genius while providing valuable information about sonic games
This video really speaks to me. The way you talk mostly positively about the game, while including humourous interjections showing how annoying the jank can be, sums up my experience with this game very well. The game has some obvious jank here and there, but damn it, it's fun.
The humor in your videos has vastly improved! Great work :3
You know you've hit rock bottom when the first thing you think of when you see a houseplant is if you can cyloop it. Trust me, I've been there.
Your word choice and the cadence of your speech are so engaging and captivating. You are a truly gifted speaker, love listening to you talk
Im as excited for your video on update 3 as i am at update 3 dropping yesterday
You never fail to make me quiver with laughter, your quirks, quips and humour go a long way in your content. And I absolutely love it. Keep up the amazing work bro. Subscribed
it might take 2 months till Bickuribox12 releases a video, but when he does, its always worth the wait.
Ironically whenever a new update gets revealed he will reach the last update to that update 3 in 5 days
@@sourlab probably took him a bit too long to produce them.
@@Yoshistar238 yep
"saw a tree and thought about cylooping it"
Bro is actually 2000% more bamboozled than me, and here I thought I spent too much time on tweaking my mods
The 100% reward would be so much better if they also gave him a red cloak to make him look like King Sonic from the Archie comics, and then also Caliburn because that's just cool. Would be so dope
This update just fundamentally made Frontiers a better game. I can’t wait to see what The Final Horizon has in store for us
The more you talk about and show gameplay of frontiers the more I learn to appreciate it.
15:50-15:55 got me 🤣 but yeah the spindash truly made this game waaay more fun to traverse
12:06 the part about the points system really reminds me of Sonic spinball, which is one of my favorite Sonic games.
This is definitely one of the best Sonic games to have come out period.
man, how I love these videos, they are good for lunch, dinner, sleeping, studying, for everything, keep it up broooo
18:01 i love frontiers, man. you get your ass spiked down by that ledge, but you can still recover with all that speed!
What a delightful birthday surprise. Thank you Bickuribox12.
Happybday fam
i love the rhythm of your editing style.
"Which will probably be soon" My brother in Christ, it is almost time for Update 3
I dont think ive ever had this much fun with this game. So worth it spending so much time grinding out the action chain challenges.
Keep up the awesome work! I hope you do a video on one of my personal favorite Boost games (Sonic Colors Ultimate) But maybe for another day!
Don't mind me, I'm just patiently waiting with Popcorn....yuuup. patience is a virtue. Oh no, I might be going insane.
I missed the sonic frontiers last update, and spindash section made me more amazed than i have ever been. You also made me amazed with your explanations.
I'm very happy with Final Horizon because it leans hard into the type of platforming you can see they were experimenting with in this update. Looking forward to seeing your video on it
I hear the cyloop noise whenever I use the lasso tool in art programs now, I feel you
Place your bets now, people. It’s been four months since the last update dropped. Did Buckuribox like the Final Horizon update? And will he make a review of it?
I hope he does soon, my popcorn’s growing stale.
EDIT: HERE WE GO!!!
Video's coming in within the next few weeks according to Patreon
@@hedgehogsonic11Man I hope so. I'm waiting with trepidation every day
@@Miju001 it's basically done but he had an audio issue he needs to fix.
Something I always loved about I your videos is how 90% of the time you’re very formal and straight forward but the other 10% is you being dumbfounded or screaming 😂
I had already collected every memory token before this update came out so it was a pleasant surprise to see it actually count towards 100% completion and then be able to laugh at all the poor souls who had to collect them all now as well
