I feel like you missed some important parts here, mainly that Helldivers 2 takes place a century after the first game. After the events of the first game, Earth won against the Illuminates, "liberated" their technology, and used it to colonize the galaxy using FTL travel. At this time the Helldivers where disbanded and no longer deployed. It was only much later, when the previously thought to be defeated cyborgs came back (now as fully mechanized automatons) and the terminids escaped the oil farms and started wreaking havoc, that they were reinstated and brought back into action.

One of the main reasons I’ve fallen in love with Helldivers 2 and Helldivers as a whole is because I KNOW that there’s more to it then is led on and that we aren’t the main character and just another cog in the machine, that’s why there’s no character creation, you don’t “respawn” another Diver is just sent to replace you.

Technically if a helldiver is trained on the job the government can boast about the length, difficulty and comprehensiveness of the helldiver training program. "The Helldivers comprise only the top 1% of all applicants." The public doesn't need to know that the training program is actually just being deployed into actual combat, hopefully alongside a more experienced diver, an arbitrary number of times before you are consider to have "graduated" from the program. Plus it would be hard to train them for the sheer variety of tasks and environments they may be required to attend to in an interstellar war, its easier to just let nature take its course and you've clearly failed because you lack the qualities Super Earth expects of its sons and daughters if you get eaten. The cryogenic storage is definitely because of the sheer value of each individual helldiver and definitely not because the public should be kept in the dark about their untrained and inexperienced nature. After all look at how cool they look in the posters they couldn't possibly be cannon fodder.
After starting the game, post tutorial you step out of a cryopod, when you join another squad you step out of your cryopod. Each time a reinforcement is called a new you is defrosted and dropped into the battle. That means there are thousands of copies of "you" in storage. The tutorial can be thought of as your first defrosting, to remind you of the basics. Each time you die you retain your memories and, are effectively an immortal being. dive, die, dive again, and again, and again until liberty is spread across the galaxy. My headcannon is that each "player" is an elite helldiver who has seen thousands of battles. Unless you didn't play the first game, and answered the recruitment call. Then you're a hero in training. I love democracy.
General Brash told me automatons keep eating his helldivers so I asked how many helldivers he has. He said he just goes down to the shelter and gets a new diver afterwards so I said it sounds like he is just feeding shelter divers to automatons and his democracy officer started crying...
With birth permits only being for the most patriotic of citizens, I wonder if those chosen for helldivers are cloned en masse and that’s why they are so expendable. Also makes sense why they would freeze you rather than continuing to train their soldiers
Good theory, would explain why so many identical troops can be dropped into the battlefield after getting killed by the enemy. Each super destroyer could just contain a giant fridge of frozen clones ready for deployment
That theory is my head Canon lore. They'd have to flash clone soldiers at the rate they get killed then send teams to recover equipment if possible. Maybe the memories are uploaded in real time to a system on board our super destroyers so the clone remembers what's going on

Yes and no. The oil is indeed used for that purpose, but it still comes from the decomposition of terminids. That is why they farmed them in the first place, and it's from these farms where the terminids now have escaped.

The armor and excess meat on these bugs if it forms from something similar and they could grow, kill, bury and turn the bugs over "naturally" in a process that could likely start producing oil in as little as a hundred years... Add in sci-fi BS and all the bugs we see on a Helldiver difficulty drop could be made into enough fuel to supply a Super Destroyer for a few months to a year (assuming a similar mass conversion rate and that all the bugs are viable) within as little as a decade.
i dont believe it has, think it was stated somewhere that once your done with a bug mission a cleaner crew is sent in to collect all the bug bodies for the production of that sweet sweet E-710 at all those refineries the divers helped to get back online

These past 100 years since the war, with our breeding and experiments, has caused themt to be rather developed. They broke free. Now we have A.I. Atomotons, completly seperate from cyborgs, and the Neo Bugs. *ENLIST NOW TO PROTECT FREEDOM!*
I'm hoping for a fourth enemy race, a sort of mirror match foe that are just rebel humans, or aliens who fight in a very similar manner to super earth, using chaff infantry and drones to try and pin the helldiver's before their own helldiver equivalents come up from under the ground all decked out in specialized gear

But the rogue helldiver's would mean they'd have to have their own super destroyers, which while space station or ship battle maps where you drop onto that sort of terrain would be awesome. Giving them an alternative to recreate the super destroyer effect without having their own super destroyers. both to avoid "well why not just PVP" and to add a narrative feel that these guys are a truly rebel force using creative measures to stand up to the Super Earth government. It also lets the programmers narratively limit the abilities and animations of the Rebels to prevent any system errors and just the hassle of programming AI that is aware of and avoid bombing themselves like players do. Probably by limiting the support abilities to summoning turrets, weapons, gear, and assuming they already have them out by such a point, vehicles.

Raising this question might send me straight to a MoT black site, but hear me out: Super Earth has FTL. But when Helldivers enters the bridge for the first time they do so by exiting a cryo pod. Why does my character stagger out of a cryo stasis pod if my character doesn't have to wait long for the super destroyer to reach the frontline? Why are there so many cryo pods in the ship? Why can my voice randomly change between two female and two male voices, as if the person inside the suit is chosen randomly from just four phenotypes every time my character is redeployed? Is Mars tutorial just a quality control procedure? Is a super destroyer secretely a clo- [message terminated - Ministry of Truth]
Could be a situation where they became more machine than man, and as a result could no longer be classed as a cyborg. Or could just be the Devs fancying a name change for them.

Yes, one line from the on ship NPCs in helldivers 2 talks about this, referencing the first game as the first galactic war, taking place a 1000 or more years ago if I remember correctly. Bugs are the same, just a little more evolved

The more I think about it the more the flash cloning theory makes sense tbh. The math doesn't math super well when you try to come to the conclusion every single Helldiver is a different person. Like take into account the procreation permits and how depending on the requirements to qualify it could partially cripple the creation of new people to recruit. But the math not mathing is probably just a me thing. But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if this new Galactic War was just self inflicted. Perhaps in the 100 years of peace the Super Earth Council/AI saw more people "wake up" and what's better than a war to go through the youth population which usually is the most rebellious, stoke some renewed toxic patriotism, etc. "Nobody knows how the Terminids go from one systems to another" hints at the fact the Termininds don't do any travel and that every outbreak is just a Terminid farm messing up. This big Terminid infestation implies a lot of farms fell at the same time and all hell broke loose... but is it really that likely? I think the Super Earth government caused it all on purpose. Soon they'll do something similar with the Automatons (assuming they're definitely not the Cyborgs).

The satirical and hilarious narrative of this game harkens back to the Bush era. The parallels….“Hypothetical WMD’s”. (The invasion of Iran) “Terrorist cyborgs attacking our country” (9/11 inside job theory) and even the bugs being the enemy (yet they turn out to provide a vital natural resource…Oil. I love this game and I’ve only played it for an hour. Starship trooper vibes all day.

the video made me think about what is happening in the world of the game. What scares me the most is Helldivers' unhealthy attitude towards democracy and freedom. they extol Freedom and Democracy as a kind of religion and worship it. What if this is all a cover for something more sinister and darker in the future?

Honestly, a voting system that used AI questioning to determine what a person values and desires in their government in order to identify which vote would most closely match their needs and wants would be pretty awesome - if it could be designed to prevent manipulation, fraud, or whatever other forms of interference. There is certainly a lot of smoke & mirrors involved in the way current politicians try to gain votes, and the amount of information and topics to address are overwhelming for the average person that isn't dedicated to following current news, events, and politics - and that's to say nothing of the individual's ability to reason and think critically about topics while weighing social, moral, practical, economic, and philosophical matters simultaneously.
Did they confirm it in an "out of character" talking to players as developers kind of way or did they confirm it "in character" talking to Super Earth citizens/soldiers kind of way? Because I've been theorizing that labelling them as Automatons is just Super Earth propaganda to hide their real origins and connections to the Cyborg Rebels 100 years ago and the devs are just rolling with it to manipulate our beliefs the same way the Helldivers' fanatic patriotism is manipulated.

I'm hoping for a fourth enemy race, a sort of mirror match foe that are just rebel humans, or aliens who fight in a very similar manner to super earth, using chaff infantry and drones to try and pin the helldiver's before their own helldiver equivalents come up from under the ground all decked out in specialized gear

@@Brotatoooo well rebel humans, since all of humanity belongs to super Earth, that would automatically qualify. But the rogue helldiver's would mean they'd have to have their own super destroyers, which while space station or ship battle maps where you drop onto that sort of terrain would be awesome. Giving them an alternative to recreate the super destroyer effect without having their own super destroyers. both to avoid "well why not just PVP" and to add a narrative feel that these guys are a truly rebel force using creative measures to stand up to the Super Earth government. It also lets the programmers narratively limit the abilities and animations of the Rebels to prevent any system errors and just the hassle of programming AI that is aware of and avoid bombing themselves like players do. Probably by limiting the support abilities to summoning turrets, weapons, gear, and assuming they already have them out by such a point, vehicles.

Raising this question might send me straight to a MoT black site, but hear me out: Super Earth has FTL. But when Helldivers enters the bridge for the first time they do so by exiting a cryo pod. Why does my character stagger out of a cryo stasis pod if my character doesn't have to wait long for the super destroyer to reach the frontline? Why are there so many cryo pods in the ship? Why can my voice randomly change between two female and two male voices, as if the person inside the suit is chosen randomly from just four phenotypes every time my character is redeployed?

Could be a situation where they became more machine than man, and as a result could no longer be classed as a cyborg. Or could just be the Devs fancying a name change for them.

My guess is that the automatons are the cyborgs but after being beaten in helldivers 1 the "human" element was no longer allowed to breed leaving just the robots struggling to cope fully (probably why they seem more genocidal and dark now) @@LoreTours
Yes, one line from the on ship NPCs in helldivers 2 talks about this, referencing the first game as the first galactic war, taking place a 1000 or more years ago if I remember correctly. Bugs are the same, just a little more evolved

The more I think about it the more the flash cloning theory makes sense tbh. The math doesn't math super well when you try to come to the conclusion every single Helldiver is a different person. Like take into account the procreation permits and how depending on the requirements to qualify it could partially cripple the creation of new people to recruit. But the math not mathing is probably just a me thing.
But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if this new Galactic War was just self inflicted. Perhaps in the 100 years of peace the Super Earth Council/AI saw more people "wake up" and what's better than a war to go through the youth population which usually is the most rebellious, stoke some renewed toxic patriotism, etc. "Nobody knows how the Terminids go from one systems to another" hints at the fact the Termininds don't do any travel and that every outbreak is just a Terminid farm messing up. This big Terminid infestation implies a lot of farms fell at the same time and all hell broke loose... but is it really that likely? I think the Super Earth government caused it all on purpose.
Soon they'll do something similar with the Automatons (assuming they're definitely not the Cyborgs).

The satirical and hilarious narrative of this game harkens back to the Bush era. The parallels….“Hypothetical WMD’s”. (The invasion of Iran) “Terrorist cyborgs attacking our country” (9/11 inside job theory) and even the bugs being the enemy (yet they turn out to provide a vital natural resource…Oil. I love this game and I’ve only played it for an hour. Starship trooper vibes all day.

I love Helldiver’s world because I hate super earth on principle and want to see them lose, but if they do lose it means there’s more missions to play through. I win both ways, like a true warmonger

Honestly, a voting system that used AI questioning to determine what a person values and desires in their government in order to identify which vote would most closely match their needs and wants would be pretty awesome - if it could be designed to prevent manipulation, fraud, or whatever other forms of interference. There is certainly a lot of smoke & mirrors involved in the way current politicians try to gain votes, and the amount of information and topics to address are overwhelming for the average person that isn't dedicated to following current news, events, and politics - and that's to say nothing of the individual's ability to reason and think critically about topics while weighing social, moral, practical, economic, and philosophical matters simultaneously.

So, the devs confirmed that in the 2nd game the automata are not the cyborgs. The machines we fight are not cyborgs. They are a separate faction
Did they confirm it in an "out of character" talking to players as developers kind of way or did they confirm it "in character" talking to Super Earth citizens/soldiers kind of way? Because I've been theorizing that labelling them as Automatons is just Super Earth propaganda to hide their real origins and connections to the Cyborg Rebels 100 years ago and the devs are just rolling with it to manipulate our beliefs the same way the Helldivers' fanatic patriotism is manipulated.
Can't wait for the third faction to make it into the game, and perhaps vehicles for the helldivers to pilot.
