The Templin Institute extends its deepest appreciation to all the veterans of the Malevelon Creek. Our investigators are especially grateful for those who decided to share their stories with us.
I was not there when the Creek fell, but the news are what made me enlist. Now I fight to keep the bots off Draupnir, and I deployed on the Creek a few times as well as a pilgrimage, even though it is practically lost.
I served on the creek with a fellow helldiver by the callsign "Seadogs". Seadogs was a funny fellow. Always had a joke or two to say, and nothing seemed to rattle him somehow. We met during a blitz mission on Malevelon Creek not too long after I was made Sergeant from successful missions against the bugs on Meridia. Seadogs was the only one who had been assigned on the mission other than me. We took on the automataton bases with a decent bit of stealth. We hit them hard and fast and then faded out into the jungle before the clunkers could formulate a response. For all his humor Seadogs was surprisingly coldly professional at times, and highly competent. I used to carry a supply pack to keep us stocked and he joked he always sticks with his quartermaster since he'd never run out of stims because he had to survive to "make some big titty SEAF pilot his wife" he would always compliment how attractive Eagle 1's voice was and made it a point to thank her for each air strike. We were assigned next to a mission launching an ICBM. We were assigned two cadets with us, who were eager to spill oil. I chatted with them but Seadogs held back. He didn't joke as much with them as he did me. When I asked he said "I only become friends with those I think will survive the mission" The cadets were eager to fight for democracy and engaged every patrol they saw. Seadogs and I had mostly used stealth and guerilla tactics, and he kept advising the cadets to avoid patrols instead of engaging them. But high on their early successes, they didn't listen. They engaged a patrol on a hilltop where they had the high ground and their stalwart heavy machine guns littered the ground with oil and shattered parts while they laughed and whooped at their kills. I tried to warn them that the clankers are slow to respond, but when they do they bring massive armies. They didn't listen, however. Seadogs motioned to me to move on. "Objective takes priority," he said grimly "They're being a good distraction, let's move on." "Shouldn't we help them?" I replied, knowing he was probably right but didn't like the thought of leaving comrades to fight without us. "We have a mission to do. We die here it doesn't get done. Come on," he said. I followed him into the jungle as the sound of gunfire and mad laughter echoed behind us. As we finished the objective the mocking laughter on our radios turned into cries of terror and pleas for help. By the time we reached extraction, there was nothing on the radio but silence. We extracted alone. Seadogs didn't joke much that time. Our last mission together was supposed to be a challenging one, but mission control clearly got the intel wrong. It was a suicide mission. Upon our drop we were beset with tanks and clunkers in exo suits. For what seemed like days, We carved a bloody path through their forces but they just kept coming. Every time we ran into the woods another patrol was waiting for us. Every time we survived and stimmed up we were under attack bare a minute later. Our reinforcements arrived and would die as quickly as they came, blood and oil mixing on the jungle ground as we fought a running battle to activate an old SEAF artillery cannon and upload some critical data to Super Earth's databases. Some kind of atmospheric interference was making it hard to get accurate readings sent to our destroyers, so it took longer than normal for us to get supplies or orbital support. We found ourselves near extraction, but with an army of clunkers between us and escape. Hulks and Devastators were everywhere amongst them, we were hopelessly outgunned. I told him we should try to call down some turrets to distract them, and sneak by while they are busy. "That's a good idea man," he said cheerfully and then stood up and began to open fire at the bots, quickly taking out the nearby patrol but alerting the others who came to investigate. Seadogs threw a few turret deployment beacons down near his position and took cover behind a rock. "Are you crazy?! What the hell are you doing?!" I asked him. He laughed, and I could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. "I'm being a good distraction. " He fired a few more rounds at the bots, drawing even more to his position. "Go," he said desperately. "I'll hold them here. If we both tried for it, we'd die. This way at least one of us has a chance," I hesitated, wanting to argue. Seadogs suddenly hugged me. "Go brother. Live free for both of us. Find you a sexy SEAF pilot girl to marry for me eh?" He spoke with a laugh. "Now go. GO!" So...much to my shame. I ran. I made it to the extraction beacon without trouble, the bots were focused on the enormous rucus Seadogs was making as he spilled oil by the gallons and split metal into shards with his autocannon. Anyone even getting close to spotting me was immediately blasted to pieces by gunfire as Seadogs covered my escape. Finally, when the extraction was 20 seconds to touchdown, I got my last sight of my brave companion, my brother in arms Seadogs. He had climbed to the top of a rock, a sea of metal monstrosities surrounded him on all sides. He had called down several strikes onto his own position. The delay in triangulation for our destroyers had given him time to mark multiple targets at once, including the mini nuke we had liberated from the SEAF artillery cannon. Our eyes met across the battlefield, and he saluted me. One final act of bravery as monsters of metal climbed up behind him, raising their chain blades to strike him down. Then they disappeared as the whole world went white as several explosions went off at once. I don't know if my blindness was from staring at the explosion or my own tears, but I don't remember much other than stumbling onto the escape craft after that point. Rest in peace Seadogs. The Creek may have your body but your spirit will live forever.
As of April 1st 2024 around 1319 EST. At long last, Malevolon Creek's has been liberated VENGEANCE IS OURS MEN! THE SPIRITS OF OUR FALLEN BROTHERS, WILL SLEEP SOUNDLY TONIGHT!
I remember the first days on the creek we dropped in with smiles on our faces and jokes. We took out bugs but this was our first time against the automatons. We were slaughtered. I was the only one left from the dive no samples collected no extra objectives completed and no smiles on any faces. And I was there on the final day of the creek planting the flags of democracy and on that last dive we were all smiling. LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY
I remember when Mantes and Draupnir were taken. I remember being one of the only Helldivers still on Malevelon when it happened, how quiet it was. There were no destroyers in the sky, no distant orbitals or stratagem beacons, just that foggy blue sky and the red glow between the trees
I was there...at the Creek. My deployment was short, but I saw things that'll live on in my nightmares. I don't want to go back, but if that's where Liberty takes me, then by the gods of all peoples of Super Earth, I will.

“My squad specialized in flamethrower combat… we made planet fall deep in the jungle. Those red eyes, the screams they made. We tried to fight them with our bugs tactics. The flames didn’t work… they just kept running at us.”
We may have lost this battle, and at a horrible cost as well, but we have not lost the war. Let the memories of the fallen drive and motivate us towards a final victory. By liberties will when its all said and done, THE CREEK WILL BE AVENGED!
"Now, I don't know much about anything, but I think some of Super Earth's best young men served in this war. There was Dallas, from Phoenix. Cleveland, he was from Detroit. And Tex was... Well I don't remember where Tex come from"
“We are going in the first wave…just means more bots for us to kill. You smash the entire area and scrap any bot you see, *do you get me!?”* -Sargent Mandos speaking to Helldivers of the 364th before the massacre of malevelon creek
I was late to enlist, but I still managed to drop on Creek as a cadet scout. I was quickly taken under the wings of a Space Chief Prime, where we would drop deep behind enemy lines to conduct surigical crippling strikes and rescue missions. Let me just tell you that we would've never made it through without the selfless close support of brave Eagle pilots, and pinpoint orbital strikes fired by our expert navy. I feel that their contributions are under appreciated, and often taken for granted. We divers continue to rely on them a great deal.

"To defeat the machine, we must understand the machine! We can ill afford another Malevelon Creek!" - Sky Commander Brasch speech after the Disaster of Malevelon Creek
I've been at Malevelon Creek since the start, been dropping there since the Severin Sector First Expeditionary Unit was formed. You learned quickly how to survive. There was never any daylight there, despite what you might expect of a tropical world. At least not enough to make any difference for visibility. Spotting any bots in the foliage was always a nightmare, you couldn't see a Beserker until it was practically right on top of you. When High Command issued the withdrawal, my ship was still in orbit with a small flotilla of SD's preparing to run one last operation before we joined the retreat. I watched as four ships around me were destroyed by ground-to-orbit AA fire and a fifth one plummeted down into the atmosphere and burned up. I was part of the last 3,000 or so Helldivers to run an operation on The Creek before the retreat was full acknowledged by the rest of us. I'll never forget all the Divers that we lost at the Creek during that first battle. We're back at The Creek since then, and I can't think of any other combat zone I'd want to deploy to.
It didn't take long for Malevelon Creek to fall: our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you [Helldiver] had already passed the torch. And because of you, we found the SSSD, unlocked its secrets, shattered our enemy's resolve. Our victory - your victory - was so close, I wish you could have lived to see it. But you belong to Malevelon Creek. Your body, your armor - all burned and turned to glass. Everything… except your courage. That, you gave to us. And with it, we can rebuild. Remember The Creek. Credits to: all those who fell in Malevelon Creek and @VividJarl for inspiration for the comment.
I was at the creek. The first wave. I remained there until its fall. I was a creek crawler. A solo diver. The amount of death I’ve witnessed. The amount of dread buzzing through the air. You could always hear the sound of their chanting before you’d see them. Gods forbid they see you first. There was so many, I counted 8 hulks, 3 tanks, a legion of walkers, and the whole of a world eaters warband. It was there, wounded on my second helldive extraction (weird glitch, I got killed in the drop ship but still counted as extracted lol) I learned the truth of the creek. I have since had a couple prosthetic limbs. Since then I’ve been helping the fight on the East, but the scars of my time will never leave me. Heavy tree lines send a chill through me. Even here in the East, I still hear their chants. The sound of machinery even when there isn’t any. I see new lights in the trees, they say I’m just shellshocked but I know what I saw… we’re being stalked by something new. I’m certain it will make the creek look like a ball pit by comparison.
“You from the Creek Cadet?” “Yes sir.” “How’s it going there?” “Resettled and Prospering sir.” *the Veteran glances at an old photo of four Cadet Helldivers* “That’s good to hear.”
@KelgorothTheFinalShape Dude it's so much crazier than Eve. This is just a planet with a slider, leaving the players to an extent, to make the story. In Eve players still have that control but you have players who own giant companies among other things who usually start the fights. Pretty cool stuff
@@Lady_Amelia-Eloise dude watch Into the Rabbit Hole's video on Eve. Empires with independent economies with hundreds of thousands of players have risen and fell in several galactic wars driven purely by the playerbase. the politics and the maneuvering is insane, and the battles are so big they number in the thousands in one instance. incredible scale and tactics
I fought to retake malevelon creek in the recent counter-offensive "Swift Disassembly." I fought, i bled. I reduced bots to not but scrap. But for every bot we killed, every hulk we busted, every tank we destroyed... they just kept coming...I once deployed with a squad of helldivers...one of them had real experience. He had to go back for the lost samples after a cadet stepped on a landmine. He ordered us to hold the extraction zone and wait until he either returned or sent a communication over the radio. We were beset by an endless tide of bots. Machine gun bullets ricochet off the armored shields of devastators, grenades made a medley of pain...in the panic and confusion, one of the cadets tried to flee..he ran for the extraction shuttle and tried to call it in...i warned him..i told him to stop and get back in line or i'd shoot...he was just a space cadet...even now. I still see red lights in the treeline..
Harbinger of Liberty here, over 30 confirmed extracts on Malevelon. I am happy our situation is acknowledged by everyone. We might be winning now, but we should always keep our guard up. Glory to Super Earth, happy diving.
Harbinger of Redemption here, veteran of hundreds of drops on Malevelon... I've seen many of my friends and many more bots drop... the jungle is hungry... the jungle is speaking binary... the jungle cares not where the limbs come from as long as she is fed
I served a limited deployment to Malevelon Creek during the first week of the war. My team of combat sappers had the responsibility of dropping behind the lines, sabotaging enemy airfields and control towers, dismantling fabricator outposts, etc. My first deployment had been to Heeth, but the damn bugs couldn't have prepared us for the fighting at the Creek. I saw things there that will follow me to my grave. Corpses of SEAF troops rotting in barbed cages, bodies hoisted on spikes, barbarity that not even the animalistic bugs would have stooped to. My team was only there for a couple of days before General Brasch ordered our ship to Draupnir to secure the supply lines to the Creek. That wasn't a cake walk either but at least the sun rose there, at least the planet itself wasn't conspiring against us. I know one day we'll be back. Once the TCS is deployed across the barrier worlds we can bring the full might of Super Earth to bear on those disgusting automatons. One day THEY will talk amongst themselves about the massacre at Malevelon Creek. Star Marshall Peepaw OIC SES Elected Representative of the Constitution
Any chance I saw you back on Mars during training? We might have been on the same Demo courses. Lost a few friends to the bugs, now I drop solo. May Liberty guide you, Helldiver!
Those who dive onto bug planets return as heroes. Those who dive onto bot planets return as shells of their former selves. Those who dive on to the Creek...well...time will remember them.
As someone with a short stint on Creek under their belt, no truer words were ever spoken. Every single time I extracted was a miracle. I can still hear their blood curdling chant.
I was deployed to the creek 2 times. The bodies i saw, strewn among thousands of beaten metal. I never saw such horror. I once had the honor to fight with 1 brave helldiver, he saved our regiment, we were miles away from extraction and he chose to stand his ground and loaded his last magazine in his stalwart and chose to stay and cover our retreat. We will always remember him. He was a cadet...
It's insane how Invested I am in the whole narrative of the Galactic War. I love HD2 but I genuinely felt proud of having fought on the Creek watching this, despite *just* being a level in a game. It's wild
Helldivers 2 has enabled me to play and genuinely have fun with people that mere weeks ago i considered my mortal enemies. Our politics and flags may be different, but our cause is the same. From the river to the seas, Malevelon Creek will be free.
@@StabbySabby not sure how to feel about you co-opting the rallying cry of an actual liberation movement for a satirical video game that 97% of the player base thinks isn’t a satire
I enlisted into the Helldiver core a few months before many of my friends did, because of this, they never knew what it was like to fight on the creek. They'd often ask me "what was the worst part of it"; the screams? the blood? the smell? No... the worst part of that Freedom Forsaken rock is the memory of it... The memory of crimson plasma and red flairs lighting up that endless night sky, the memory of the rocket pod flash before E3 was blow away, remembering the pain in T4's voice when she was set ablaze, or remembering the fear over the radio after S1 armed the Hellbomb, only to scream "Sweat liberty, my leg!" moments later. And so to answer your question "What was the worst part of Malevelon Creek?"... It's what you brought home with you when they finally raised the Super Earth Flag Fiat Libertas Oง
I was still in boot camp when the creek fell but can proudly say my unit fought relentlessly on mantes and draupnir. Millions died to keep the the meager supply line to the creek open.
I started my service on Ubanea. I fought the bots and I thought I knew them, but nothing could’ve prepared me for Malevelon Creek. Whether I wanted it or not I grew up there, and it made me into the Helldiver I am today
I wasn't there when the Creek fell... I was a coward who still hadn't signed up for the Helldivers, but once I got there... Sweet Liberty, the bodies... When I saw what they had done to the brave Divers who had gone feet first into that wretched place... I swore vengeance, to spill oil a hundredfold the blood they had spilled of Super Earth's children. I just hope we one day can take it back so our fallen brothers and sisters can finally rest in peace.
No not hope, fight with the knowledge that it will be taken back. For evert drop of blood that has been spilt, 100s of bots shall be destroyed. LONG LIBE THE HELLDIVERS, LONG LIVE SUPER EARTH, REMBER THE CREEK
Coward?! Don’t you dare call yourself a coward. You knew what happening down on that planet, yet you still chose to dawn your cape and fight on nevertheless, that is courage my friend not cowardice. You might not have fought to claim the Creek, but you fight to avenge the lives of those who fell there, does that sound like cowardice? I don’t think so. So don’t put yourself down Helldiver, every choice is part of a grand plan, and that plan is one in which we will win. So stand proud, for you are a Helldiver, one in a million, and you will achieve the impossible.
SES Hammer of Liberty. We have now captured Malvalon Creek my fellow Helldivers. It has been many weeks of long, hard fought battles of multiple warriors and patriots. We can now honor our lost comrades who have given their lives during the start of this conflict. Those who have fought on the creek and other Automaton fronts should be proud of yourselves. The bots have been pushed all the way to their last few planets. Perhaps Templin may do a sequel video detailing the 2nd Campaign and capture of Malevelon Creek some time down the line?
We fight not for ourselves, we fight for our people on Super Earth, we die so that they won’t! Our sacrifices will never be in vain as long as Super Earth stands! For we are the spear of humanity, we shall stab our way through hell if it means protecting Democracy!
My brother died in the battle, he was in command of a flagship known as the emperor of humankind. He was trying to evacuate when he was struck by rocket fire. Seeing him die will forever haunt me
@@TemplinInstitutedo you guys remember the golden age that you guys had once in 2021 where you would upload 3 or 4 videos per week why did that great age end it was so much fun and so beautiful in it's own way
@@Coalition2298qy.if you compare those videos I am sure you notice that the art is from the original sources. From what I can tell the Templin Institute now puts more effort and looks for new art sources in a lot of the content in the video, such as the gorgeous paintings in this episode. Takes a lot longer to draw than to narrate. @Templininstitute keep up the quality of the content! I mostly "watch" lore videos when I'm going to sleep, but this one was personal as I too was at Malevelon Creek 🫡
At this point I'm converting from 40k lore to Helldivers lore because...well it's just as epic and I'm actually being a part of it. I was one of the veterans fighting since day 1 at Malevelon Creek and even now as a Skull Admiral I'm still fighting the Automatons. This game is achieving something no other game has ever achieved and we, brothers and sisters, are making it happen.
The lore and obsession with Malevelon Creek is truly the sign of a healthy game. Back when I was still a kid, the "Club Penguin" video game had an organic, fan-based theory that you could tip the iceberg chat room over. No narrative or top-down story created this and the developers never thought of it. It was simply a rumor that originated entirely from the fan base, solely from imagination and group effort. The fact that Malevelon Creek was not a Mission Objective, was not an unusual planet, and had no special missions, but became a legend in the community and inspired countless fan content, fan art, and gaming sessions, is not something most communities can reproduce. Honestly, I've never seen a better gaming community than HD2.
I loved hearing people complain about automatons being difficult, but the only difficulty was adapting from an enemy who was melee focused to an enemy who was ranged focused
Really it is like Robot Vietnam, but we are the Viet Cong (with a lot more air support). Appearing out of nowhere from the jungles to strike outposts or other critical targets before fading back into the jungle before the waves of bot drops darken the skies.
Funny when you say it out loud. "So which sector are we going to today, sir?" "Actually, we're switching fronts altogether, son. We're finally taking the fight to the tin cans!" "Hmmm . . . it's gonna be tough when the other side can shoot back."
Well a ranged enemy is always going to be more difficult than a melee enemy that can't catch you in a sprint. The bots can snipe you, chase you down, one shot you, etc. They've got more damage, more armor and more range than the bugs. They're just a flat out harder
The Creek is a fucking hole right now. We Will return, but we cant repeat the failures of the past. We need to tale Daupnir and stop the bloody bugs first.
Man, i hope the developers watch videos like this. community-driven group storytelling like this is what breathes life into video games. Cracking video, i cant wait to see more!
I enlisted after we lost Malevelon. May the Master bless the Helldivers we lost. Thank you Templin Institute for this documentary honoring their sacrifice. 💪
The Massacre of Malevelon Creek was one of the hardest battles of the war. Every time I look back, I keep hearing the screaming of my brothers…and hearing the Binary through the trees. In the grim darkness of the Creek…there was only hell.
Its been 8 months since my deployment of the creek, I was one of the first line of offense not knowing what was on that planet. As you put it, ive been in many hells but there is only ONE Malavalon Creek.
I was fresh out of bootcamp and several drops into neighboring planets before i was ordered onto Melevelon Creek. I supported my team by handling anti-air tools. The dropships never stopped coming...
Taking Malevalon is like fighting in Korea or Vietnam, fighting a relentless and a hell infested battleground. Also: There is one thing that was not mentioned in here that everyone should know, if you were in the game at the opening days of HD2, and went to look at the surface of Malevelon, almost every mission icon that didnt have a full team was blinking, it was a desperate cry for help that was either answered too late or never answered at all.
Once, I was willing to step back from the Creek, let the battlefield grow silent as other planets received aid. But my now closest friend, whom joined soon the Helldivers soon after I did, had become so offended by the constant defeats felt at the Creek that he couldn't bring himself to leave. And so, I joined him when I could, fought the bots however we were able to, and learned the value of skirmish warfare and the Scout-type armor. And most of all... *...I learned to love the Creek, and I can't wait for the chance to return home.*
I was there at the Creek. Gone in with a squad of 4 strong. Mounted with anti-automaton weaponry, even one of us had a mechsuit of their own.. It wasn't enough. Two of us died destroying one of their dropship outposts, bravely sacrificing themselves to arm the hellbomb. It was me and my buddy left, we'd been through many terminid campaigns together, even took down a Bile Titan. Yet, none of that prepared us for the savage silicon and galvanized steel of the robotic menace. We were on the verge of destroying the second outpost, the second hellbomb having been armed successfully. Yet, when it looked like victory may be in sight for both of us..the impossible happened. His capital ship, The Sword of Liberty, had been downed by a surface to air bombardment by the Automaton. In the ensuing chaos, he didn't escape the Hellbomb blast in time. Alone, I crawled for days through mud, grime, oil and the blood of my comrades. I had completed our mission and called for extraction, yet at what cost? My brothers, gone. My left arm and right leg inoperable after calling in an orbital strike on my position to deny the Automatons access to myself. I was lucky to have been flung close enough to the Pelican to crawl on, my Gatling Turret providing barely enough covering fire for me to escape. One of these days, we'll take the Creek back, if not for the planet, if not for the war, but in the name of every soldier who died on it's soil. For Super Earth!
As a fellow veteran I mourn the loss of our fallen hero’s. But remember we must fight so those we protect will never have to experience our daily lives. Keep on fighting we must be home for Liberty Day.
Man i was there, both of my teammates completely and Utterly massacared, my remaining brother had to drag me to extraction, i just couldn’t see the bodies of my friends smothered in the dirt of Creek…2 sucessfull deployments before i was withdrawed into Tien Kwan, i still can’t escape the dreaded feeling of having to leave them behind and be forcefully sent to Tienamese Kwan.
SES Queen of Democracy. Our first deployment was two weeks into the war. We were sent directly to the Creek as part of the reinforcements. Fortunately for us we linked up with a squadron of experienced Crawlers who showed us the ropes. Occasionally we were rotated to Draupnir and Mantes to keep our supply lines secure, particularly during the big Automaton offensive across the sector, but we spent most of the next week taking every chance we could get making drops on the Creek. Our squadron was one of the last to be pulled out of the system. At that point I still had never seen a bug. We just participated in the deployment of the TCS in the Umlaut Sector. Good soldiers follow orders. But there's only one major order we're praying for: "take back the Creek."
SES Hammer of Liberty. I have been back in the creek since being redirected by High Command to activate the TCS. With most of our other Helldivers finally taking Draupnir since a couple of hours ago I hope we have more reinforcements redirected to the Creek. I will still keep fighting there till we take that planet and honor our fallen brothers and sisters in arms.
Malevelon Creek is a nice reminder of the Bio Labs on Auraxis. Half as stressful, almost as chaotic, but this time we're not outgunned. We were never outmatched.
"Struggle and toil, keep spilling oil. Think before you peak, as you creep along the creek. Stay low, go slow, avoid the red glow. Always Tear down the tower, freedom requires firepower. Remember these tones so you may return to your homes and soon these automatons will be nothing but bygones." -A poem made by Death Captain Davis of the Hell Divers 44th Scouting Battalion, Malevelon Creek Veteran, honorary "Creek Crawler" For all recruits and/or Veterans new to Malevelon Creek. As one of the "survivors" of Malevelon Creek and a proud veteran of the Helldivers corp, Thank you for making this to remind our future youth of our sacrifices and to the brave men we lost along the way.
I remember my first tour on The Creek. The first night after our combat drop, we never got a lick of sleep. One moment you’d be patrolling through the dark, hazy jungle and the next moment the guy beside you would erupt into a bright flash of energy and crimson mist. The jungle would be silent and calm and then all hell would break loose. It was wave after wave, endless hordes of bots raining hell on us. I still remember the red glow of their lifeless robotic eyes peering through the fog, it still haunts my nightmares. The morning after my first firefight I remember how the rivers ran red with the blood of fallen divers and glistened with oil in the early morning light. We may have lost thousands of good divers but we took millions of those clankers with us. I was the last survivor of the original squad I served with. When I was rotated back to the Terminid front, it just wasn’t the same. The Creek will never be forgotten.
One of my first few deployments as a cadet was to the Creek. My friends were all Skull Admirals who were no strangers to the horrors about to face us, and here I was, fresh from a few excursions on Erata. They told me it would be ok, to not worry. They told me to stick with them and we'd get home safe. And I was eager to do what I could. The moment my pod hit the surface, I could tell shit already hit the fan. If there was any hope to hold onto during this mission, none of us saw it. Not long after we made planetside, two of my friends were killed by those filthy clankers. The last thing I heard from them were their agonized screams and the screeches of binary within the trees. By the time extraction was called, it was only me and one other. He yelled at me to get on the ship the second those doors opened and he'd be right behind me as he covered our escape. Right when we thought we were home free, they took him as well, and I was the only one who made it off. Shortly later, the announcement came: The Creek had fallen, and we were all to retreat. That day, a part of me questioned whether any of this was worth it. Was all of this worth the pain? The brothers and sisters lost? What was the point? Two weeks later, I'm now a Chief, and those wounds still haven't healed. Some vowed never to go back there. Not after this. But when the time comes to retake it, I'll absolutely be amongst our brothers and sisters dropping in, to take back what we lost, and to avenge who we've lost. Remember The Creek. Never Forget, and Never Forgive.
I remember the first time I set foot on Malevelon. It was the first mission I got sent to straight out of boot camp, and I got thrown into a level 9 hot zone. It was hell
I love that there is a story being weaved out of the fight that the community engages in. It Super Awesome that The Templin Institute Covers it in such a way to reinforce that idea!
I remember being a Cadet with my friends who heard about the beginnings of the war wanting to Defend the Creek. I remembered how it truly was a test of nerves, grit, and Determination in the face of overwhelming, sometimes Apocalyptic odds. The things I saw on that first deployment...the amount of Death, Brutality, and sheer Mercilessness never left me. Yet despite such despair and absolute horror, the light of the Creek Crawlers shined brighter than any star that I dare say it Rivals that of Sol itself. During one of the battles I was in to take out some Bot Fabricators, A Death Captain who shouted to us when we were taking a Radar station that whatever the cost was, we needed to retake it not just out of Logistical Necessity but to give the people back home Hope that we could win this war and that Super Earth's Guardians would not fail. He told me about his previous battles with the Terminids when they had invaded Heeth and told me that whatever the cost, we had to live up to the symbol of Freedom, Hope, and Liberty's protectors that we bore upon our shoulders. He died after setting off a Hellbomb and taking out a Heavy Bot Fabrication Facility whilst multiple Shredder tanks were after us. I'll never forget his Sacrifice for us as he charged into hell, knowing he would never return even as we fought to keep a corridor open for him to come back to us for Extraction. Part of me wanted to not believe he died but...when the Pelican pilot shouted that we had to leave, I gave one last salute for my fallen CO before we left. Now I stand as an Admiral, Freshly Promoted after aiding in the campaigns against the Terminids. As I've survived the Creek, taking the knowledge of what I was able to experience to try and help those fighting against the Terminids, and eventually lead my own charge with multiple other Helldivers on Tein Kwan when the bots decided to invade before the deployment of the Exosuits. I may have left the Creek to assist across the rest of the Galaxy when called upon for Major Orders...but the Creek has never left me. One day we will Retake the Creek. To those who have seen their friends, family, and loved ones lay down their lives for the Creek and for other worlds, know that their deaths were not in vain. I've passed my knowledge to those on other fronts and of those fighting other battles and if I die to take back the Creek, I shall take as many enemies of Democracy and Liberty with me as I can. We are Helldivers! When Superearth calls for us to stand our ground, Here we shall stand! Even as we march across the worlds taken by the enemies and find the civilians and Fallen Warriors, we shall not bow our head in mourning! Our heads shall rise and lead the charge to avenge their Deaths! Avenge the Fallen. Honor their Memory. Take back the Creek.
Creek Crawler here, I was there during the initial phase of the campaign for awhile it looked like we would win that thing but then reinforcements stopped coming, orbitals weren’t working and the bots kept dropping from the sky I’m on the termind front now but the creek will always be where my war is
Ah, the infamous 'Massacre of Malevelon Creek.' Another chapter in the glorious annals of Helldiver history. Some call it a massacre, we call it ‘Tuesday.’
Thank you for putting these stories together. Your narration of the front line oil spilling, that occurred in the first weeks of this galactic war, will be remembered and the story will be told by all the Crawlers' families.
To give a bit more context just in case you guys don’t know. Mort was the last planet left in Xzar sector before the automatons could take the entire sector. The entire community united in the last 3 hours left of the defense operation and then at the end the steam servers fell and the PlayStation players had to keep the line for the last 2 hours, then the steam servers came back online and the we flooded the defense campaign on mort with only 5 min left on the counter. We succeeded and were able to stop the automatons advance in the Xzar sector and finally pushed them back ultimately ending in a stalemate. It was a moment that showed we would not go silently into that night. God I love this game
I was there at the creek. We thought it was going to be a cake walk…….But we had no idea we marched into literal hell for democracy! …….My entire company of 40 men all perished, and only I made it back. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. FOR SUPER EARTH AND LIBERTY!
Honestly its pretty cool what a unique game experience Helldivers 2 is. When we fought for Creek never did i think it would become as much of a legend it is. Never forget the Creek
I’ll never forget the fighting that occurred on the creek. Many of the friends I made there didn’t make it back. When the war started I was a greenie straight out of the academy. When I left, I was a veteran who saw more things than any bugdiver. I told the fng’s who extracted with me when the planet fell, remember the creek. On April 1st, when we finally pushed the automaton forces back, we got orders from high command stating “liberate malevalon creek. After another force campaign, it was ours. I’m so glad I got to experience this when the game first came out. There has yet to be another planet and battle like this.
I was one of the few to keep Draupnir open to help those at the creek. The Creek was terrifying the two times I dropped there, but Draupnir is just as bad. Instead of thick foliage blocking your view, there is a constant, near impermeable mist surrounding Draupnir. Our eyes can barely see through, but the bots? The bots can see for miles. I've seen squadmates be eviscerated by cannons that we had no idea were there. You could barely make them out in the mist, only visible by their glowing vents in the back. Same with the other bots, only visible by the red and orange glow that they make. Malevelon Creek is famous, but Draupnir is just as deadly. May we never forget the Creek, but may we also respect those keeping the Creek alive.
The Templin Institute extends its deepest appreciation to all the veterans of the Malevelon Creek. Our investigators are especially grateful for those who decided to share their stories with us.

When I asked he said "I only become friends with those I think will survive the mission"
The cadets were eager to fight for democracy and engaged every patrol they saw.
He fired a few more rounds at the bots, drawing even more to his position. "Now go. GO!"
So...much to my shame.

@@TemplinInstitutedo you guys remember the golden age that you guys had once in 2021 where you would upload 3 or 4 videos per week why did that great age end it was so much fun and so beautiful in it's own way
@@Coalition2298qy.probably just didn't have time to edit as much anymore, which is fair
@@Coalition2298qy. as the video quality goes up, the frequency of uploads go down. It is inevitable.
Appearing out of nowhere from the jungles to strike outposts or other critical targets before fading back into the jungle before the waves of bot drops darken the skies.
the whole idea of taking cover.. all those years of playing halo and call of duty... and especially gears of war... lost.
Taking cover doesn't help much if you're constantly surrounded and being shelled
Funny when you say it out loud.
"So which sector are we going to today, sir?"
"Actually, we're switching fronts altogether, son. We're finally taking the fight to the tin cans!"
"Hmmm . . . it's gonna be tough when the other side can shoot back."
Well a ranged enemy is always going to be more difficult than a melee enemy that can't catch you in a sprint. The bots can snipe you, chase you down, one shot you, etc.
They've got more damage, more armor and more range than the bugs. They're just a flat out harder
The creek has been open for weeks to a fight. Everyone says “remember the creek” but I’m there and we need soldiers, not remembering.
It can't be taken while there's still fighting in Draupnir, and the Terminid front has unfortunately drawn High Command's attention.
The Creek is a fucking hole right now. We Will return, but we cant repeat the failures of the past. We need to tale Daupnir and stop the bloody bugs first.

Also: There is one thing that was not mentioned in here that everyone should know, if you were in the game at the opening days of HD2, and went to look at the surface of Malevelon, almost every mission icon that didnt have a full team was blinking, it was a desperate cry for help that was either answered too late or never answered at all.
there is a reason why Malevelon Creek is known as "Robot Vietnam"
Was a pleasure to provide footage for this! Hope you keep up the good work.

ODST, Cadian shock trooper and Helldiver at a pub in Terra having a pint to cope
Thank you for your service.

With the amount of time spent facing against the red glow of Terran tracers, the Creek’s almost like home.
So much jungle, so many bots, so much fire…yet we pushed on. We. Pushed. On.
I'll hand it to them
The inclusion of a game master has really made the game feel like a story. And we are the ones making the story
"Struggle and toil, keep spilling oil. Think before you peak, as you creep along the creek. Stay low, go slow, avoid the red glow. Always Tear down the tower, freedom requires firepower. Remember these tones so you may return to your homes and soon these automatons will be nothing but bygones."

As one of the "survivors" of Malevelon Creek and a proud veteran of the Helldivers corp, Thank you for making this to remind our future youth of our sacrifices and to the brave men we lost along the way.
Thank you for your service.
You are a Hero Diver. Glory to Super Earth.
8:45 I remember serving on Malevelon. That day was my birthday. Hearing the news while at work was tragic.
For the experienced, it was a hellhole that left them with PTSD. For the recruits, it was grinder. One by one, they were sent to their deaths
I'm sure Massacre of Malevelon Creek will be the Helldivers 2's first book in the future.
Timothy Zahn or Troy Denning should write it
@@firetop-cn8vb I agree wholeheartedly with Timothy Zahn!

Please do the defiance of Mort, where we pushed back the invasion of automatons and made a stalemate

It’s all fun and games till the tree start speaking in Binary
As a veteran of the creek, I appreciate the chronicling of what went on in that chaotic battle
