Everytime you hear "Parallel" in french, have a shot of your favorite potion! ;)
No that’s too much mineral water for me. 😂😂
"pallallel" ...LOVE IT!
Thanks for the informative videos! (That looks like an old Tascam 85-16b analog 1” multitrack back in the corner. I literally wore one of those out back in the day, doing so many projects on it. Traded to an audio dealer in Florida for a newer, more pro version with super low time that had come from a Disney facility. )
Chris, Great Video! I learned tons of new information from you today. Thanks!
Chris I just wanted to let you know that your videos help me a lot! Thanks dude!
Excellent tutorial. Very useful thanks.
chris great video alot to think about will have to watch it 2 more times as you as in CANADA A
Thanks for this.
Excellent video, thanks for the advice. Made a huge difference to my mix.
Thank you for the tip for turning on multiple direct routing outputs. I'd been wondering if that was possible.
I always hit the thumb up on your videos before watching them lol - knowing they are always awesome and intuitive. Thanks Chris, greetings from Mauritius
Thanks a lot Chris! Just what I needed! High quality teaching as usual!!
Thanks and you're welcome!
Hi Chris, great video! As always, very precise and educational. Have a great weekend!!!
Thanks!
💯game changer..🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great as always Chris. The same is true for your Mastering for Streaming video a week ago. 👍 Nice, we share the same preference when it comes to P.Comp. BTW, I like using the Direct Routing for flexibel and fast FX Chain scenarios in terms of Sound Design. Man, this is just one of the features I love about Cubase. Bye for now! 😀
I love that filament lamp 😊
Lol, me too!
Pulento, terriblemente genial gracias!, Aguantee
Chris, thank you from Israel for another valuable Video.
Just found your channel -- what a godsend! Clear, well presented, not self-indulgent, and always has a great sound. Thank you!
Glad you found my channel!
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the tips. Can you route the FX channel to another channel instead of the stereo mix?
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Always top tips
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Sir, You give the best useable info available. I watch so many video's that give bad advice and I have to LOL.
So nice of you
Awesome video - thanks Chris!
Glad you liked it!
Very helpful video thanku🙏🙏
Most welcome 😊
Thank you for a new video, Chris. Parallel with a tiny french accent? Oh, no, my friend, no, no, no. I am not native English speaker and can tell you: I love your channel for two things: the excellent and didactic content AND for the way you pronounce parallel. And that is not the first time I say that.
Thank you for this useful information
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Chris
iv been watching your channel and your mixing tips for a long time and i love it . just have a very fundamental question and id like to know your opinion . what is the definition of a good mix ?
Thank you .
Thanks you for this exceptional tutorial
You're welcome!
Hi Chris love your videos. On your dry drum MIX bus, are all your feeder tracks (kick, snare,TOMS etc) dry as well (no compression) this is where I get confused. I usually compress my kick in/ out mics snare top/btm then send all these to drum bus
Thank you Chris, very cool content video🥁 obrigado. Also for me you are the best Cubase UA-cam professor, no dought ✌️
Thanks! 😃
Great tips, thank you :)
You're so welcome!
Curious what benefit direct output routing would offer
Thank you. Merci. Ευχαριστώ. Danke schön. Chris you are great guy 🙂
Thank you! :-)
Thanks man, very useful! Greetings from Moscow!
Hi there, thanks for the video. Wondering if you could tell me if Cubase can handle doing parallel compression with OTB hardware compressors?
I am using the middle of the road Pro Tools (not HDX) and there is a lot of hoops to jump through to make hardware parallel work properly, and in fact, it basically doesn't work due to latency.
Someone mentioned that Cubase MIGHT be able to correct the latency issues, but I haven't been able to confirm it.
Any clue? Thanks!
Why not use pre-fader
So you don’t have volume problems?
Hi Sir Please Make a Video About Vocal Harmonies in Cubase
How to parallel fx on the voice like enhance the presence? I do it by an fx channel with low and high cut and after a distortion, but i dont know if it is the right way. Congrats for the youtube channel.
Thank's again Chris ! As always, very usefull. What accent ? Stephan from Montréal :-)
🏆king
Lol! Thanks
I have one question please!!! When you do parallel compression on vocals, you duplicate original dry track and apply compression. When you process vocals with plugins do you group two tracks together or do you process only main vocal track?
Excellent video. Very thorough walkthrough on how to setup in Cubase. This is the first video I've watched on your channel, so maybe you answer this in another. I write primarily orchestral and orchestral hybrid music for games and film. I've seen reference to using parallel compression on this type of music to get that big Hollywood sound, especially on things like epic percussion. I, like most composers, have Groups setup for stems. For example, I'll have a group track for each orchestral section (ie one of woodwinds, one for brass, etc), plus group tracks for other things like synths, guitars, keys, etc. Would it be best to do Sends from the group track, as opposed to doing sends from individual instrument tracks? So having a Send from the brass group track to on P.Comp FX track instead of having 3 P.Comp FX tracks that I would feed from the Horns, Trumpets, Trombones, would be better.
Thanks!
Hey Mike, glad you found my channel on UA-cam :) To answer your question, I would add parallel compression (if needed) on your Instrument Groups so yes it makes sense to do it this way :)
I think you missed the most important. Send individual sounds to par. Comp group with direct summing... You can listen And mute the drum group but still listen to the parallel comp... And that is how it's done..
How to make hipass filter quick so I could compress drums not effecting low end?
Thanks Chris for another great tutorial. I have one question, I cannot find the answer anywhere and you're the Cubase expert. I have one stereo track, how to invert the phase only on one side (for example left channel) of that stereo file? Thank you.
Hey Lucas, I will answer you on this week's Cubase Q&A Video :-)
@@mixdownonline thank you Chris. I appreciate it. If you can show how to properly split stereo track into 2 separate mono L and R tracks and also if you can check if the problem I mentioned occurrs. Thank you so much.
Hi Chris... Still learn so much from these old stuff in your channel.... One kind clarification please...
The ways of parallel blending via an FX / GROUP track introduces phase issues due to the latency of the parallel compressors right ? So when the blended signal is high in volume this becomes a real issue, plus if there are more than one parallel buss, it becomes pretty obvious & sounds awkward ... How do you get about it ?
Many thanks for all your advises & these lovely episodes of the real deal.... Cheers :)
Hey Rezi, Cubase has Delay Compensation built in, so you don't have to worry about this.
Chris i need help! I'm sending my stems to an engineer who doesn't want group fx tracks and asked that i export the tracks with the group channel effects on the main tracks (i.e blended in) but when i batch export the group effects don't get blended in. I also tried rendering in place with full master fx etc to no avail. Is there any way to blend the effects in without having to export the tracks with the group fx applied to them?
WHICH OF THE 4 WAYS CAN YOU USE only in cubase elements version??
Chris, can you maybe tell us which compressor you prefer for Parallel Compression? I know the compressor needs to be fast to get the best results. I use the API2500 from Waves all the time, but maybe you have a better suggestion? Thanks!
The API2500 is great. The Vintage and Tube Comp in Cubase are great if you don't have anything else but my favorites are the1176 (UAD) and DBX160 (UAD)..Oh yeah, also the Arouser (Empirical Labs).. I'm keeping editing this comment, and now I need to add the UBK-1 (Kush Audio) that is a very creating type compressor that work very well in parallel... Now I'm done! Lol!
@@mixdownonline Hmm, I actually never tried a 1176 with parallel compression. I'll give that a try! :)
Hey I got a question, I did parallel compression on my tracks (in this case vocals), When I send the vocal track to the group bus I hear like a delay. the delay compensation has no use here, it doesn't fix it. any solution for this of if i'm doing something wrong?
i have issues , when i use send fx for parallel comp and blend it in i lose bass as if i have phasing issues am i doing something wrong..
Thanks for yr videos Chris .
A Cubase Pro question if I may .
I do a lot of projects where many songs or audio events are laid out in long sequences inside the project window .
I will then use the marker track to name many of these , usually with the cycle marker .
Then I will make mixdowns of the various marked tracks .
Is there a way to have a Second track timer running in minute and seconds that starts from the Left Locator ?
It would be very useful for me because I will send the mixed tracks to my clients and they could say , for example , "track 3 ...more guitar at 1min31seconds .
Right now I have to go in and work out where that is .
With a timer display running from zero at the Left Locator this would be a lot easier.
Unfortunately, there's only one Ruler Track available on a project
@@mixdownonline thanks for getting back Chris . To me this is a real drawback. I will often have large projects , lots of different audio segments laid out in sequence , which needs to be in the 1 project window , not multiple ones.
Anyone who mixes audio for film will be familiar with this...
I can't believe Cubase doesn't care about this !
Perhaps Resolve will provide it.
Great video as always, but I have a question, is latency not an issue? If the compressor on the parallel channel is adding latency would this not put the signals out of phase alignment? I have added a compressor to both channels and bypassed one to get around this, but in all the parallel compression videos I have seen no one mentions this? Or is it not an issue? Thanks.
Good question. Your DAW Conensate by adding latency when working with plugins. So nothing to worry about :-)
@@mixdownonline Interesting, thank you for the quick reply! I'm sure with some plugins I have noticed a phase issue and others not, I wonder if those plugins are 'reporting' the latency correctly. That said I don't notice any issue with Cubase' stock plugins. Thanks for your answer. Great channel.
Hey Chris, i need your help, with parralel compression for example i want
much variations on the addlibs with panning L+R for example
there are 30 addlibs and want this
some adlibs left side with 13 % 40% 70% etc panning Left
some adlibs right side with 8% 23% 64% 78% panning right
if i want to add parralel compression on this ad libs how to set up with 1 compressor and not 15 compressors left side with 13 % 40% 70% etc panning Left
and 15 compressors with 8% 23% 64% 78% panning
hope you understand what i mean and give me a better workflow for this
(i notice so far in studio one you can do this with 1 stereo compressor) is this here also possible?
Thanks in advance for taking your time to help me out Chris
noice
Why not just use bluecats patchwork which has a mix control?
Awesome vid! But how do you Mute the original track and only hear the FX P.Comp track? I could lower the fader on the original, but hitting mute doesn't work and kills the signal to the FX channel. (Sorry, newbie here)
Hi.. you have to use "Pre Fader" setting when sending out the signal to a parallel AUX/BUSS/FX..
@@reziahamed9255 thanks!
Cubasis for android trial available in Google play store.
Will you have tutorials for it?
I know, I have to check this out!
Thank you Brother for your tips! Love & Respect! Can you Share some tips about Attack & realease ratio according to the Tempo of Songs..
jo chris unfortunately the direct routing in cubase has a bug! it deactivates itself every now and then.
why there is alway a white noise when I apply parralel compression?
Parallel compression will make the sound louder so if you add too much, it might bring up the low noise part of a recording. Maybe that's what is happening.
@@mixdownonline
Thanks for answering!
no its actually the (delay?) of the compressor that causes this noise, when the compr is on, you will hear a noise in cubase altough the track is not played. And when i mute the compr plugin the noise disappears. And while mastering it gets extreme loud. Any tips to reduce this noise? Or the delay of the compressor.? Thanks
You and I think alike
YES!
hi man I really like ur videos and just wondering is your name Turkish '' Selim ''
I know Selim is a common Turkish name, I get that comment often Lol! I was born here in Canada, but my dad is from Egypt, so that's the link ;-)
U trippin... i only know 1? ok maybe 2... or is it the same? Don't know just watch my twitch live tomorrow hahaha
Lol!
Too many commercials to learn from this video
Dude. That is totally a French pronounced "parallel"
Big Time! LOL
Thank you!
You're welcome!
