    One reason why people strain is because of Self Doubt and trying to keep the volume down because of fear that people would hear you and judge you, I was once like that, but I've never actually struggle to sing until I turned 17 and my Voice started to deepen a bit more, it's still higher than most Males of my Age and I'm still considered as a High Tenor, but sometimes I realize that people with Deeper Voices tend to sing higher than me with much ease and my Falsetto seems almost non-existent, that's my only problem.

    Best quickfix ever: when singing high notes, don't think up, think towards the back (from front of your mouth toward the back of your neck and beyond). Works every time for me, but requires a lot of attention. Basically fixed 20 years worth of bad technique.

      I have a similar technique, instead of thinking the notes are going up think of the notes or the amount of air going forward, the “higher” the note, the further you have to put the note or air out in front of you. the lower the note the closer the note or air is

    One of the best forms of advice my teacher gave me for not sounding nasally was "sing from your gut!" If she heard us singing from our nose she'd run over, pinch our noses and say "See? You're singing from your nose!"

      That can be good advice for someone that's really stuck singing through their nose, but the nasal cavity is a completely valid area to use to help brighten your tone, add intelligibility, and even access grit and distortion. A lot of very accomplished rock and pop singers use this area of their voice to great effect. Variety in singing is very important and being able to sing through different "resonant areas" is an invaluable tool. As long as the support is there and it's healthy, use it and see what happens!

    Dude, this is an incredible tip. Thank you so much. I think this has just opened a massive door for me. I've been singing from Seth Riggs's Singing for the Stars for years, and have never quite been able to turn the exercises into actual singing with any sort of consistency. I've always read singers sort of passing through a bridge and it opening out for them as they get higher, well that's exactly what this technique feels like it's doing. There's no tension at all. If anything, it seems to be stabilising my larynx (if that makes sense), allowing the high note without strain. Thanks so much. Going to see where this takes me now.

    • @TheeJordanRossi
      @TheeJordanRossi 2 роки тому +18

      @@georgeda90 Expand the rib cage when you breathe and keep it expanded. There should NO tension in the throat at any point. Keep your jaw low and loose. Instead of "pushing" the sound, sing "inwards" as if you're trying to bounce the sound off your soft palate. By not pushing, you're taking the strain off your larynx. If the support is there, your jaw is relaxed, and there's no tension in the throat - you'll get that tilt naturally as you ascend through your range.

    I do notice Im comfortable around f3-g4 and my passagio is around b4 so I guess Im a counter tenor. I have avery light and airy voice almost like a kid which is annoying
    I can do random high notes that sound like head notes around b5/c6 and if forcing myself and randomly I can hit d7 whistle but I have zero control and it sounds horrendous
    I can’t seem to get the hang of falsetto for high notes but I can do adlibs and random words or noises at thr higher range, whistle I can’t seem only randomly seem to be able to hit and it’s only when I’m singing to specific songs
    I’d love to book you for a few lessons to work out what the heck I can do with my voice lol and some more formal techniques
