One reason why people strain is because of Self Doubt and trying to keep the volume down because of fear that people would hear you and judge you, I was once like that, but I've never actually struggle to sing until I turned 17 and my Voice started to deepen a bit more, it's still higher than most Males of my Age and I'm still considered as a High Tenor, but sometimes I realize that people with Deeper Voices tend to sing higher than me with much ease and my Falsetto seems almost non-existent, that's my only problem.
I felt this everytime… it’s really stressing me out because when I’m at home and alone i can really reach the high note, but when my family in home… i just become shit again 🥲
Best quickfix ever: when singing high notes, don't think up, think towards the back (from front of your mouth toward the back of your neck and beyond). Works every time for me, but requires a lot of attention. Basically fixed 20 years worth of bad technique.
I have a similar technique, instead of thinking the notes are going up think of the notes or the amount of air going forward, the “higher” the note, the further you have to put the note or air out in front of you. the lower the note the closer the note or air is
Higher larynx DOES NOT equal tension. In fact, when you sang it beautifully, that WAS a relaxed higher larynx for you. My guy, you give some SOLID advice. I just wanted to clarify this for your followers. Keep popping out content, bro. Much respect. 🙏
Thank you so much .... I could hit the notes during exercises but I could not sing them in songs... This little trick just fixed my problem in seconds Can not thank you enough
One of the best forms of advice my teacher gave me for not sounding nasally was "sing from your gut!" If she heard us singing from our nose she'd run over, pinch our noses and say "See? You're singing from your nose!"
That can be good advice for someone that's really stuck singing through their nose, but the nasal cavity is a completely valid area to use to help brighten your tone, add intelligibility, and even access grit and distortion. A lot of very accomplished rock and pop singers use this area of their voice to great effect. Variety in singing is very important and being able to sing through different "resonant areas" is an invaluable tool. As long as the support is there and it's healthy, use it and see what happens!
After many years I finally made peace with the fact that singing is indeed physiological. Once you have the revelation you get your wings!!! Sing on singers!! 🎉❤
Dude, this is an incredible tip. Thank you so much. I think this has just opened a massive door for me. I've been singing from Seth Riggs's Singing for the Stars for years, and have never quite been able to turn the exercises into actual singing with any sort of consistency. I've always read singers sort of passing through a bridge and it opening out for them as they get higher, well that's exactly what this technique feels like it's doing. There's no tension at all. If anything, it seems to be stabilising my larynx (if that makes sense), allowing the high note without strain. Thanks so much. Going to see where this takes me now.
@@georgeda90 Expand the rib cage when you breathe and keep it expanded. There should NO tension in the throat at any point. Keep your jaw low and loose. Instead of "pushing" the sound, sing "inwards" as if you're trying to bounce the sound off your soft palate. By not pushing, you're taking the strain off your larynx. If the support is there, your jaw is relaxed, and there's no tension in the throat - you'll get that tilt naturally as you ascend through your range.
Wow it kinda works, like I still don't get higher notes that I had before my puberty. But at least I get a small bit of sound instead of total strain. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much❤❤.... I was trying to sing 'die with a smile '.... And I was straining a lot because of fear and used to widely open my mouth to sing.... I couldn't ...right now after watching this technique , I got it and was satisfied when I recorded myself
Wow, this appears like a golden note to know to comfortably singing on the highnote without messing up. Thank you. Subscribing you to learn more about singing. ❤
Normally . Ur Mindset has to be positive. Your vocal cords follow the mind. So when u think positive mind while singing a high note. It won't strain. Like think of "i can hit this high note! ". Hope this helps!
If releasing a new song, a singer is usually guided by an arranger to sing according to time for example 4/4 etc. The singing must be accurate according the time given before arrangement, mixing mastering, editing, harmonization, etc.
Singing is a meditation. You must be relaxed with very low number of thoughts while singing. You have to be in a meditative state to find that subtle control over your body while singing. So we shouldn't watch too much videos or read books about singing but find by ourselves.
My vocal music teacher taught me to think a note above what I was to sing and sing from the top down, not from below up to it. Changing the shape of the resonance chamber aka mouth cavity changes the quality of the sound too. Besides Having background music tuned in A=432 hz ..440hz tuning strains the voice
That only help when I can hit the high notes of my range but still strain. It only helps this part but not when you can hit the high notes. Ot only polished to sing smoothly and beautifully
I never had problems in straining in high notes- It usually depends on the vowel and whether or not I know how to approach the note and how tired my voice- Otherwise I rarely strain-
I am absolutely not a singer never trained more like Spotify sing along I do notice Im comfortable around f3-g4 and my passagio is around b4 so I guess Im a counter tenor. I have avery light and airy voice almost like a kid which is annoying I can do random high notes that sound like head notes around b5/c6 and if forcing myself and randomly I can hit d7 whistle but I have zero control and it sounds horrendous I can’t seem to get the hang of falsetto for high notes but I can do adlibs and random words or noises at thr higher range, whistle I can’t seem only randomly seem to be able to hit and it’s only when I’m singing to specific songs I’d love to book you for a few lessons to work out what the heck I can do with my voice lol and some more formal techniques

Learn to let your voice break
Straining occurs for a lot of reasons past self doubt, inexperience, breath support etc

It actually works. Though I usually doubt myself which causes me to strain my voice instead of being relaxed.
