  • Heard the news yesterday and was blown away, Gary was the soundtrack of my youth. Saw him in '87, '89, '90, '07 and was delighted when I saw him a few months ago, playing his old rock classics again. This was supposed to be a good year for Gary, a new DVD coming up, a documentary and even a possible new Celtic record with old bandmate Neil Carter. It isn't to be and I'm heartbroken about it.. My heart goes out to his family, rest in peace Gary, you're music and fine tone will live on forever! Blood Of Emerald!!

I've heard dozens of guys try to play the guitar solo to this song but no-one can match Gary Moore's passion. So glad I got to see him live. What a talent!

"Just heard the very sad news that Gary Moore has passed away. We had the pleasure of meeting Gary and his band last summer at the Pinkpop Classic festival in Holland. After watching their (killer) show, we were introduced and Gary came over to our dressing room and chatted away to us. He was everything you'd want a hero to be… laid back, modest and very genuine, with a cool sense of humour. "

Guitar legend. Rest in peace Brother. Often mimicked but never matched. Any guitar player who has watched GM and who can transcend Blues and Rock with such passion, skill and proficiency is welcome to comment.

Gary never wasn't much of a talker, he did his talking with his hands which expressed more than any words could ever say..

Thanks for sharing! I've loved hearing Gary Moore's music and guitar playing since the mid 1980s and finally got to see the man live for the first time when he was doing the Bad For You Baby tour in 2009, at the HMV venue in Edinburgh. I was terribly sad hearing about his passing in 2011 and I believe he was in the process of sharing another album, perhaps similar to Wild Frontier, which was inspired by his love for Irish Folk and Traditional music.

Never witnessed such a thing, he may have looked a bit grumpy at times but what does it matter? I always came for his playing, not for him being nice to people.. Please remember the man for his brilliant playing, songwriting and tone..

@viroflay It's 'Dunluce' (an old castle on the north coast in co Antrim, N.I.), from 'After the War'. It's combined with 'Over the Hills and Far Away' in some later shows - would have loved to hear it live....to me it sounds fantastic!

The ONE guitar player i never happened to see that i truly regret never having seen. I have seen Jimi and Eric Johnson( my 2 favs along with Gary)and just didn't get around to seeing Gary.......truly one of the all-time greats! So sad to see how he passed(essentially alcohol poisoning with probable heart and weight concerns) and it makes one wonder what could have been but also what might have been missing in his life.....dependancy....who knows? I know i miss him and hope he knows just how much he meant to the music world. RIP my friend! Thanks for posting this btw and does anyone know if there is another source to this performance? Such truly shit-kickin' axwork you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere!

I still think he had some (mental) issue that killed him. The last couple of years he looked said and sometimes pissed of.
I even think he had some hearing issues....the last years he was sometimes playing out of tune. (all the years before he never was out of tune)
