The only thing I liked about this particular love marriage arrangement is the background checks about if each person is telling the truth. By the way, I do believe that everyone should have the choice to choose their life long partner. For example, in the love marriage, one of the couples in the documentary shouldn’t be together. The guy has no job, no skills in a trade, the girlfriend is just out high school and no job. What are they going to live on…. Love? That’s not practical and their relationship will be a tough one if it survives.
Even if background checks are good once the couple got married, the husband and even his parents get greedy, they ask for more money from the wife, if she could not give them, the husband and parents treats her badly or wife ended dead. I watched many news and documentaries of this. Background checks are of no use with arranged marraiges. Wife will only know the husband’s and in-laws’ intentions if she live with them.

The last two couples seem so sad 😞 I didn’t feel the love they claim to have for each other. Without a job and a proper home it’s difficult to keep a bond strong and healthy. When they eloped it probably felt right at the moment but I think they’re regretting it. The young couple is still in the puppy love stage.

I personally hate arranged marriages but there's no way they're failing 95% more than love marriages lol. If anything, they're way more succesful and have a miniscule chance of failing. I knew a man at work whose private life was ruiined by an arranged marriage. He was dutiful and accepted the bride in India who was arranged for him, she ticked all the boxes of class, background etc But, she was a selfish neurotic who made his life miserable. He basically had to build a separate life around her. He was too kind to divorce her and also did not want to bring shame on the family but he greatly missed female companionship.

It would be ideal to report Dowry harassment. But the society wont leave you to live in peace. You will be the black sheep amongst all . The majority are supporters of this culture. Men enjoy the fact that their wives will bring in free cash. If the have only daughter... they will repent this. If they have sons then they will carry on this tradition with their chest held high. People should always be able to have accommodation, whether they are married or not or single or not. It seems sad that parents say they love their children, but they will force them to marry someone they don't want to be with or will disown their children if they pick someone else. That is not love in my opinion. You should always love your children unconditionally and while that includes wanting what is best for them, it should include their happiness. Interesting documentary - I'd love to see a follow up after 1 year. Shivani and Gaurav are a cute couple who seem well suited and happy together. Sahil clearly loves Dayita and seems like a very caring man who'll do everything possible to provide a secure future for his wife. I hope her family will eventually agree to reconcile with them because you can see the estrangement is painful for her. I'd worry about the future for Pooja and Anil though. She's very young and naive and was swept away by her first romance, even though it should have raised some red flags if she was more mature. I suspect the bloom will wear off quickly when reality hits that she's tied to a man with no job and no skills. It's customary for the bride's side to bring dowry in Asian culture -- but my parents ended up covering most of the expenses for my older siblings. I’ve been watching a lot of True Crime Stories for Several Years that are about couples where one kills the other and 88 % of them are from India and India parents abusing their children horribly and I’m sure that alot of this wouldn’t happen if they were allowed to date the ones their parents have chosen them to marry. Born and still living in South Africa, speaking as an older version of myself, with 2 children and not married, I think the culturally arranged marriages would be better than love marriages because of the stats in my country now. So many single mothers because fathers have abandoned their responsibilities. Poverty plays a role because the men cannot afford the dowry to marry. It's a terrible situation. If it was arranged in the same class, clan, etc., I think there would be much less fatherless children. Particularly among black South Africans. I also think if you are mentally ready for marriage and understand the dynamics, it may be easier to learn to love your partner and it would last longer than a relationship based solely on emotions. I dont know if it is the fault of incompatibilty or of the forced arranged marriage. We all know most decent families, educated or not, do not force a girl to select a guy. We know thevgirls who rejected 50 suitors, we know the guy who rejected a 100 suitors. Marrage incompatibility can not be known unless you are in a marrage, I think most women are getting resouceful enough to get out of an dull or mraningless wedlock. I’ve been watching a lot of True Crime Stories for Several Years that are about couples where one kills the other and 88 % of them are from India and India parents abusing their children horribly and I’m sure that alot of this wouldn’t happen if they were allowed to date the ones their parents have chosen them to marry. Even if they were chaperoned that should not be a problem because I feel people Act Badly when they are miserable and they pass that hurt on their children also I just don’t understand why people don’t learn from their mistakes

Born and still living in South Africa, speaking as an older version of myself, with 2 children and not married, I think the culturally arranged marriages would be better than love marriages because of the stats in my country now. So many single mothers because fathers have abandoned their responsibilities.
Poverty plays a role because the men cannot afford the dowry to marry. It's a terrible situation. If it was arranged in the same class, clan, etc., I think there would be much less fatherless children. Particularly among black South Africans.
I also think if you are mentally ready for marriage and understand the dynamics, it may be easier to learn to love your partner and it would last longer than a relationship based solely on emotions.
Anyway, we learn everyday.
