    I've reffed derby on basic nylon plates for a season plus a bunch of training and pre season. I've skated in skate parks, outdoor tracks, various indoor surfaces and they have been fine. Don't let the cost of high end plates stop you from getting started.
    IF you want to upgrade later you can.

    Also if you want wide trucks certain brands are not compatible with certain plates.
    And kingpin angles are another thing to look at when choosing a plate for agility vs stability, in addition to truck and slider compatibility.

    To be fair, there are quite good Nylon plates, like the Sunlite plates, that are made for skate park and are quite durable.

    Thanks for this video. I have tried using the aluminum skates and they are way too habey for me. I had way too much knee pain for weeks. I'm doing way better with the nylon plates. Your video did help me realize that the durability is a top factor in getting plates and weight is definitely a factor in the prices for plates.

      I use nylon plates and I love the lightness, especially when I prefer big gummy wheels that are a bit heavier. I’ve never had any issues with their durability, but I also don’t do park skating or anything crazy, mostly just trail skating and on tennis courts.

    • @Ohmygosh60
      @Ohmygosh60 2 роки тому +2

      @@crayonofdarkness215 I like the gummies to. The most I do is rink and trail skating.
      The brand I got are Pacer Spinr's and I love them, so much so, I have two pairs that have different set ups. My first pair of skates that was another brand, did last but one most. I just keep it for spare parts now. Those skates came with so many accessories it was still worth buy for a starter pair. So no losses, just lessons along the way. 😉😉😉

    Hey there! I'm building a Sneaker skate. It will be used for all-purpose skating and Skatepark.
    I was looking at the VNLA Gorilla plates (they seem a bit better than the sunlite mentioned)
    However, in both cases I noticed that the kingpins are longer than the end of the truck itself.
    So If I try to do a 50-50 grind I'd be hitting the kingpin.
    what can I do about this?
    (Sorry, I'm new to quadskates)

    I just bought a pair of Moxxi beach bunnies after the previous pair I got were founded to be pretty cheap and unsafe (plastic plates, bad plastic wheels etc). I feel really stupid and feel like I wasted money because i customized and painted those skates as well :( But at least I now have a pair that I know are safer and fit what I want them for. I'm going to keep my old ones and just have them on display as my first skates.

    Hiya great video btw...i have the avanti aluminum plates and just upgraded my boots to the bont hybrid carbon,the issue i have is that on mounting one of the boots to the plates i didnt get it dead center and i notice it more with the narow street snake wheels on the trucks,id like to re adjust the mounting but it will only be by about 1-16th of an inch or slightly more so its a small amount and i wont get a fresh hole in the boot so just be making the hole bigger,what worries me with that is the goot coming lose and moving on the plate,my other thing i thought of was putting a fresh mounting hole in the plate for a new fixing but then worried making the truck plate weaker....what would you recommend to be the best thing to do

    • @simon_slays55
      @simon_slays55  2 роки тому +1

      Bummer! I don’t have any expertise on Impalas unfortunately, but I wonder if they are compatible to Moxi sizing. Worth looking up possibly! The boots look similar. Sizing can be such a pain, too.
      My Vans Sk8 Hi shoes are size 8/9.5 I believe, my Moxi Lolly skates I have a whole video on my channel about, but they both fit a Sure-Grip Avanti plate size 5 or 6. The Lolly boot size tho feels too tight now that I switched to Vans.
      My best tip would be to take your skates to a local skate shop that supplies rollerskates/parts and see if they can help fit them. Hope this helps!

    I’m curious based off a previous comment on your foot size (mine being same 8m/9.5w) if you have a wide or narrow foot and if you have experienced any sagging with aluminum insole?

    • @simon_slays55
      @simon_slays55  2 роки тому

      Yeah we’re the same shoe size! But my foot is super narrow with a high arch- I haven’t really experienced any serious sagging thankfully, I use @fpinsoles to absorb my body weight impact in my skates and we DIY cut the metal insoles on my plates when we built them so they have held up surprisingly well over the past 2.5 years!

    Could you please do a video on kingpin angles? I started in the Impala and upgraded to the Luna. The Imlpala came with a 10 degree angle and the Luna comes with a stupid 45 degree kingpin, which I cannot skate on. Absolutely nobody mentions this as I've found. It's a huge surprise when you're still new and upgrading skates and end up with a plate you can't skate on and have no idea why. I had to do so much research to find out why I couldn't skate in my new skates. So with that, could you please do a video on kingpin angles and how they affect skating?

      The overall skates aren’t cheap. She’s saying that the stock plates for them are cheap. And they are, they retail for like $49 on some sites. The Moxi Lolly boot and gummy wheels are high quality. The stock nylon plates? Not so much.

      No problem. I just bought a pair of Moxi Panthers recently and it’s the same concept. The suede boot is pretty decent quality, but the stock Marvel plates are foreign-made and maybe not the best quality, but they’re aluminum so at least they’re durable and will last a while. The stock wheels aren’t the best quality either, maybe because they don’t have a hub. It’s the same with my inlines. The boot and liners are good quality, the stock wheels and frames usually aren’t tho. Skate companies, like most other companies, have to cut corners unfortunately to save money and keep production costs down to keep the skates relatively affordable and accessible for the customer. It is what it is.

So I’m happy I have my skates now and it’s been a lot of fun so far!
