The 80’s show may have recycled animations, but when the care and attention into creating such fluid animation via Roto-Scope is seen you can forgive it for being a show of its time. Superman’s early cartoon was also rotoscoped and they too put much care into capturing the movement of the actors involved. Then the years moved on and budget cuts resulted in dragging static cel shots across a background to simulate flying. There is a lot of the 80’s wrapped up in how they made the 2002 reboot. You can feel that care and attention to not only the animation, but how they adapted the show to fit a more action orientated show without sacrificing the themes of family bonds and how to resolve conflicts the right way... instead of MOTU where Teela has a fit of anger in the midst of grieving parents... Boy I can’t wait to see how Netflix explains how Teela can be mad at everyone for not telling her Adam’s secret... and how she’ll react when she learns the Sorceress took the knowledge Teela earned that the Sorceress was her mother. If Teela just outright forgives her when she’s been shown to be a horrible person then Netflix is just yanking her personality around to fit their agenda for the story... instead of past Teela’s who were given personality and agency in the plots.
You know despite all the drama with Kevin Smith I thought the show was okay not the greatest He-Man reboot but I don't hate it either so I'm going to watch part 2 when it's come out
@@davfree9732 In the original they had that episode about parents. Teela took it preety good there. Also, the moral was that parents are those who care for us, love us and teach us. Great, holsome message for kids.
Check out the 2002 series for a solid He-Man reboot instead of this shit. It has a more serious tone compared to the 80s show, expands the backstory and He-Man's such a badass in it. Even Teela's a badass and she actually looks feminine unlike She-Man in this Netflix show.
Yeah just checking it out honestly the original tv show wasn't that great a watch other for the cool designs and just Skeletor being such an iconic bad guy but yeah that 2002 show is actually good fun to watch with your kids.

They find many ways to kill heman, they kill robot version, actual heman, fake evil heman and then again as adam (non buff heman). In part two i wouldn't doubt they find more ways to kill him. They will probably kill ghost heman, dream heman, shemam, and hemans dad.
"Looks like a certain professional golfer we all know...." I actually burst out loud laughing when you said this. Roided-Up Abby will never not be a meme to me.
I'd actually recommend He-Man 1983. Its animation is dated, but DAMN is the writing top notch. He-Man 2002 is also supposed to be a really good show, and you can find both on UA-cam.
Not just the awesome stories, but the animation is Top notch quality. Sure they recycle angles and rely on stock footage but that was the cool pattern of the show, there was a highly original rhythm to it, and it entertainingly delivered the story. You couldn't get away with that in a live action, and probably not with a CGI either. But it works with animation, which again to THIS very day is high quality animation.
@@paulpolpiboon9535 He-Man '83's sister, She-Ra: Princess of Power (and the backdoor pilot film Secret of the Sword), is also home to some pretty good writing and similar animation techniques.

This is why I was never a big fan of Kevin Smith to begin with. All these years finally paid off with a crap he-man reboot. But coming from Netflix it didn’t surprise me at all! Lol
He's a horrible match for He-man. From his career and tastes I deduced a pattern, and it's the furthest thing from He-man. He-man was supposed to be this inspirational, aspirational show about Connan Superman. Kevin goes with "real", dry humour at the expense of the plot, "dark", villains, cooky humour, characters acting like teenagers, fallen characters, "comentary". He acts like an edgy teenager. Those don't fit He-man. He hated Orko and wanted him death. Really? Why? Is he that bad at writhing that he dosen't know how to use the comic relief, that had actual lessons and arcs in the original?
I knew from the beginning what this series was about, (I suspected it wouldn't be, but this trailer shows the truth) this series is not about the Masters of the Universe, and about Teela, her journey of lesbian discovery, and fixing a black lesbian girlfriend to be more inclusive. Prince Adam is an IDIOT, WEAK AND USELESS without his sword, the He-Man will be destroyed because it represents toxic masculinity, and a new She-Man will take over. I already knew that I would have sealed / woke up is a Netflix series, which I did not imagine and that they would destroy the masters of the universe and He-Man to pass their political / ideological message that all men are bad, and that any relationship that don't be gay and bad. And that no matter your crimes, if you are a woman you can always be forgiven, and evil is relative, unless you are a male, white and straight because YOU will always be evil.
Butch Teela then used her vagina to save Narnia from the Jabberwocky by transforming into a gender fluid Eldridge horror that makes Cthulhu shit the great pyramids
Watching the OG Filmation show out of curiosity on YT and seeing the warning signs by Kevin “I made Batman wet himself in Year One” Smith, knew REEEvalations was going to be a Shiet show
After the whole She-Ra “thing”, it’s completely unsurprising that this was completely ruined as well. Hollywood will ruin every single good or even half decent character or franchise filling. Unfortunate that you have to expect every single “remake” or “reboot” to be visual aids and shove shit down your throat, hate to see it.
@ZernoHD Kudos for being the target audience. That She-ra parody is just as bad as this He-Man parody. Though, She-ra was even more of a blatant reimagining of the source material. To answer that dumbass question: It's because the target audience ain't interested. If you types want all that other shit in shows, make your own shows. Make your own characters. Don't take things that are established and vandalize it.
@ZernoHD If anyone needs to get over themselves it's you. I couldn't care less what kind of "phobe" or "ism" you want to call me. That seems to be the only argument you have. Clearly "my mentality" isn't outdated, because people from all angles aren't amused by this Netflix garbage. Every generation doesn't "have the right" to have their version of old shows. What kind of logic is that? No one has any right or claim to anyone's creation. And it's fictional, no one "should be represented" in anything. You aren't the one to dictate what should be included in something you never created, and seemingly have no knowledge of. You need to get over the absence of certain things or wacky Tumblr groups. These franchises were great and lasted throughout generations, on their own merit. It just so happens this one decides to ride the coattails of the past, to push their own mediocre work. Like I said, if you want shows for yourself, make your own shit.
Gory, Paul. If you were born in '82, I guess He-Man was in your early life, but it was Gen X that actually grew up with He-Man, being in junior high and all. Take your point, though; Boomers definitely didn't grow up with him. They might've funded all the toys we bought, as Juan Unda here has said, but they were never into He-Man like our generations were. Shoot, at the time, for us Gen Xers, He-Man was sort of a joke with all those odd, mis-matched voices. Skeletor, especially. The cat was cool, though. (No one spoke ill of the cat.) So was Teela. Different times.
@@dontpanic1812 The youngest Boomers were 18 - 19 years old when He-Man premiered. I don't recall any Millennial growing up on it, it was all Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin, Gargoyles, Doug and Ren & Stimpy. Gen X had He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers, TMNT and Thundercats.
They took a show called HE-MAN.......HE......MAN and did the typical pander to feminist shit with it. There is no limit to what franchises they will do this with and it boggles my mind that they keep doing it because it hasn't worked once, everything that does this is either critically panned or flops or both.
SMG's voice for Teela doesn't fit the butch, buff character. It reminds me of that scene in Grown-Ups when the wives wanted the muscle man at the pool to come talk to them after his flex show. They laugh because the squeaky voice didn't match the body. Maya Rudolph says, "Everything was on steroids, except for his voice." SMG'S voice to me sounds better when she played Daphne Blake. I'll stick with the 2002 version because I prefer that they didn't tear He-Man and the other male characters down to make room for whiny Teela.
This is so backwards, what studios and producers are doing. They'd rather comment on bad male role models than depict good ones. The consequence of this orientation is to produce bad female role models and not comment on them. It's so bonkers and all excused as being conscientious. If really interested in changing the culture, the better way is to depict role models the public can emulate, use the optimistic approach, rather than negative reinforcement. Have all these people forgotten their Skinner and Durkheim, their Piaget, their Erikson, their Pavlov and Freud?
Just watch the 200X Cartoon Network reboot to see how it should have been handled. Way more episodes + lesser characters were expanded upon vs being used as story fodder in this woke insult. Tri-Klops' "roboticizing liquid" sounds alot like 'the jab' with it's smart dust & mrna components.
Andra isn't a new character. They literally stated they chose to make her a black woman because they couldn't have 2 badass redheads on screen. They also made the original He-Man, King Grayskull, black because two blonde hair blue eye heroes was too much.
The show was founded on heroism and doing good things. Something that was inspiring for us kids. They pretty much ruined it with this show. All people wanted to see was He-Man fighting off Skeletor but it was too much for 2021...
14:00 Also, in the original her birth name is Evelyn Morgan Powers. She's from Earth like the Queen Marlena. She was part of the Marlena's astronaut crew that crash landed on Eternia. But we don't have time for that. (retconned in 2002 He-Man, she's Eternian then)
Yes but her dad is faceless one, a very powerful wizard. Which imo made more sense to explain her magical abilities and quite original looks (white hair). Besides I read the comic about Evyl Lynn and it was really good, it explored her father's story and her uniqueness too as well.
Is this Siri supposed to be a continuation of the original show or the reboots? Because I remember in the original show they're being an episode of Sheila actually appreciating her adopted father and looking back at the times he trained her and how he raised her. Essentially there was an episode of Teila appreciating what she had as a father. And now apparently he was a s***** father? So it really makes me wonder is this supposed to be a reboot, or a continuation of the original story line?
Teela, in this shitty version, spent her entire adult life in the military "training", with or without roids, to... presumably, gain the title of Man at Arms. And on the day she gets it.... she turns her back on her father and the king, in a second, because Adam didn't share with her his secret that she had no right to know. What happened to all the dicipline she surely needed in order to get to the position of Man at Arms ? The king also removed the title of Man at Arms from Duncan, who had dedicated his entire life in service of. What did Duncan do.... ? He accepted his Kings judgement, whether he agreed with it or not, because he was deserving of the Title and Position and respected it. Teela clearly does not deserve it, nor does she respect it or the monarchy or even her father. Yet somehow, the show is building up to rewarding her with becoming the next sourcerous or Master of the Universe !! What ??? How does any of this make sense ? As somebody said about ... this show was only created to desecrate the fandom. Nothing more.
I grew up watching He-Man, I was 6 years old when I first saw the show and found the toys, so when I heard that Kevin Smith was remaking He-Man in 2021 I was a bit skeptical cause of all the anti - male agenda Hollywood trend that's been outta control for years now, destroying some of our favorite shows and movies from our past. Coming from someone who's seen every episode of the original He-Man and a huge fan still to this day, I can whole heartily say He-Man was never toxic masculinity, absolutely never, and almost every episode was He-Man and Teela going on an adventure with a dash of side characters thrown in mainly Cringer and Orko to enviably learn a lesson or two by the end of the show. This show showed us how to share, how to treat others with kindness and compassion, how to always put yourself in the shoes of others to better understand their situation, and there were even episodes dedicated to avoiding drugs and poison. So when someone tries to say He-Man was toxic masculinity it just shows us they never watched the show and obviously never learned the lessons they tried to teach us. This show really could have been good and it did have nuggets of goodness in it but it's not what all of us MOTU fans wanted to see, we wanted He-Man from the past kicking some serious ass, that's what we wanted to see Kevin not Teela without He-Man. Oh why do writers now think it's a good thing to kill off all of our favorite characters it's just stupid and nobody likes it, so stop it, I could go on I have so much to say about this cause it pisses me off because this version of He-Man could have been amazing.
The original He-Man was before my time, but stuff from the 1990s is being subject to the same treatment. Butcher the old franchises we loved growing up, and turn them into some bullshit anti-male, anti-White agenda that Hollywood has shoved in our faces in the past several years.
I watched a bit of it, got bored. Leon wasn't acting anything like himself in RE4 despite the show taking place shortly after it. I hate brooding anime protags and they turned him into one like Cloud. On top of that it just felt like one of the other animated movies but stretched into a tv show. I didn't even like Damnation (the good one) and I liked this even less.
My brother was telling me about it and I guessed soon in they had changed Leon based on intuition. Not sure why, but maybe Leon is thinking ahead with his actions, but maybe not. I can say he was indeed entirely different from his altruistic self.
Not only did they kill He Man, they really killed Teela as well. Shame. This could have been AWESOME and they could have gotten 40% of the woke in, without pissing anyone off, just by adding new characters and doing some good writing.
2002 He-man is way better, the lore is better, the characters have more background and even teela have more backsory and is a more compeling character in that...
@@josedarocha2949 they said about the poor sell of toys yes back on the day maybe poor advertisement , I think that would happen with revelation since the let down of many fans ,I don't think would long last specially expensive animation and expensive Hollywood actors doing the voice and Kevin smith hamulated old fans that's a let down as well

I was a fan of the 2002 version which is way way superior as a reboot with badass characters with really well-fleshed out stories and motivations. when I first heard about the Revelations trailer, I was like no blood way Netflix would allow a blonde white dude shouting that he has the power named He-Man be the main character in this SJW climate but I still held out some hope because the artstyle was fantastic and the trailer promised that there was gonna be some really kickass He-Man action. Jeez does deceptive marketing hurt like hell
How to destroy an entire franchise and a classic iconic hero in first 5 minutes. I hated the series and was flat stupid it's now called SHE-MAN!! I was beyond excited with the trailer using all the original outfits and all then hopes and dreams were killed along with he-mans death.
In the old toons, Evil-Lyn was not like this, of course. Skeletor actually respected her and she was the one minion whom he did not boss around, and she has got her own agenda and often would betray Skeletor if it suited her. But Kevin Smith basically just turned her into Harley Quinn for Skele-Joker.
If you want to watch a good He-Man show, but not the original, the 2002 Mike Young Production is worth your time. So a few points, only four people knew He-Man's secret, the Sorceress, Man-At-Arms, Orko and Kringer. Queen Marlena know because of the trope 'Mother Always Knows'. In the lore, there's a techno-virus that was brought to Eternia by an ancient hero (Name He-Ro, natch) who had been infected by it, which explains why some animals in the various shows were cybernetic. Orko by the by is actually a master mage on his dimension of Trolla, but in Eternia, his magic screws up because the rules are different than his home. Finally King Greyskull is supposed to the ancestor to He-Man, so why is he Black and the other characters are White? There's a rumour that Andra will become the new 'He-Man', because both she and Greyskull are the same skin tone.
The ".... Tela is about to get blacked by He-Man number 1..." had me laughing so hard, I had tears coming out of my eyes... " Don't ever change Synthetic Man...

Agreed, I hate it too. He man was always a fine gentleman there was no reason to humilate him or prince Adam too. Looks like we have to stick too 200X series.
Evil-Lyn's real name is Evelyn in some tellings of He-Man and she changed it when she joins Skeletor to be more intimidating. In those versions she is a human astronaut that crashed landed on Eternia.
Now, I know that why She-Ra got a separate show with a different style! Also, when the showrunner says he never liked/watched the original, that's your first problem!
Well, the one responsible for the latest Thundercats remake said he loved the original, and no one believe it. This time, the dude came honest from the beginning.
So the acronym for this show is MOTU. And it came out at almost precisely the same time as the latest Papal proclamation, Motu Proprio. Which was an absolutely unabashed assault upon the traditional Latin Catholic Mass. The supposed keepers of tradition, using that very tradition, to attack that selfsame tradition. In the name of liberal ideology. Hmmmmm. Probably coincidence?
There was another reboot in 2002 that was actually pretty good. I have memories of the original HeMan cartoons, but I also know my memories do not match with reality and if I ever went back to watch the original ones I'd be disappointed. But the 2002 reboot as as good as my memories of the original was. I hope I explained that well. You should check it out.
"Hey I've got a great idea. You know the only character people really care about enough to tune in for?" "He-man. Yeah!" "OK we're going to kill him off" "Oh ok you mean like at the end of the part on a cliffhanger?" "Nope 1st episode then we bring him back in the episode 5 to quickly be killed again!" "Absolutely love the idea! Here's a blank check but only if the other characters people might like if they've watched the show die too"
I'd rather watch the original show. I tried my best to watch this Netflix He-Man. I saw episode 1. It was pretty dumb. I quit after a few minutes of episode 2. And yeah, I had the same reaction to Andra. I was like, "Who are you again?" Cuz she wasn't in the original cartoon. There was a character in the mini comics named Andra, but, she was ginger, so, make of that what you will
Why does every "strong woman" in cartoons and related media have the same half shave haircut???? I don't understand how so many Hollywood writers don't understand that a strong female character =/= being physically strong or a hardass. It's completely possible to make a strong female character that's hyper feminine.
Let's just say that fans shaved her head and removed the make-up, and she looked like a man. Is more wrong with her character desighn that the hair. I've seen her running alongside Adam and they looked like two blokes running. Even her stance screens bro-dude, not the fun kind, the obnoxious kind.
Good video, at least to minute 7:06 where i stopped for now. I agree that the first episode may be the best of the 5, but it horrible for Masters, especially if you take this as a continuation, wich it is obviously not. They break characters left and right... it is insane, He-Man would never stab Skeletor because Moss Man died. Sure, he would be upset, but the Filmation He-Man would just not do it. There is this episode in wich he got tricked to think he killed somebody, that was a moment he gave up the power and did not want to be He-Man anymore and threw his sword in the bottomless pit surrounding the castle. Maybe he would have been very angry if one of the closer people would have died... but never the Superman injustice thing. No way. But it is no wonder, is the guy who stood beside Smith is the writer of Masters/Thundercats Crossover, in wich he portrait Randor the same way, he basicly hates Adam. It starts with a ceremony as well, but this was for Adam for wich he came to late, and EVERYBODY from the Masters is having bad thoughts about him, that he is acting not like a prince, his behavior is bad and so on. Why was he late? Well, they don't have any buttlers or maids who could have waken him up at a proper time... to get him ready in time. NOBODY even checked on him? It is stupid... just like this show. It is filled with unnecessary holes. The Sorceress would never open the bridge and fly out of the eye of the castle to materialize, because she can't do that outside of the castle... sure, they broke that rule sometimes, but still. Then this faker and the whole deception... it is all so dumb and would make this comment even longer, so i stop for now. Will watch the rest of the video now.
I wondered about the title too and stopped watching after I realized the show, was about Tila. She was so whiny about being lied to and didn't give any thought as to why. Also, killing He-Man in ep1 was insane. I hadn't watched much of the old cartoons because they were reruns by my childhood, but omg did I not have a clue what was going on and who was who etc. So much happened so fast, and then they killed the hero. What?
You sound like a very young dude, with no previous contact with the original series, and still found the NETFLIX version to be a sad joke. If Teela just outright forgives her when she’s been shown to be a horrible person then Netflix is just yanking her personality around to fit their agenda for the story... instead of past Teela’s who were given personality and agency in the plots.

Check out the 2002 series for a solid He-Man reboot instead of this shit. It has a more serious tone compared to the 80s show, expands the backstory and He-Man's such a badass in it. Even Teela's a badass and she actually looks feminine unlike She-Man in this Netflix show.
I remember that

I'd actually recommend He-Man 1983. Its animation is dated, but DAMN is the writing top notch.
He-Man 2002 is also supposed to be a really good show, and you can find both on UA-cam.
Not just the awesome stories, but the animation is Top notch quality. Sure they recycle angles and rely on stock footage but that was the cool pattern of the show, there was a highly original rhythm to it, and it entertainingly delivered the story. You couldn't get away with that in a live action, and probably not with a CGI either. But it works with animation, which again to THIS very day is high quality animation.

I never cared about Kevin Smith. Hell, I didn't even know much about the guy other than the the fact that he has shit taste in movies.

The difference being, you could tell off the bat She-ra was gonna be She-ra Tumblrverse And The Masters Of Sugar.

When she yelled "for Eternia!" in the first battle it sounded like a cheerleader at a pep rally.

This is so backwards, what studios and producers are doing. They'd rather comment on bad male role models than depict good ones. The consequence of this orientation is to produce bad female role models and not comment on them.
It's so bonkers and all excused as being conscientious. If really interested in changing the culture, the better way is to depict role models the public can emulate, use the optimistic approach, rather than negative reinforcement.

that thumbnail just says it all. Teela rearending Prince Adam
I saw the thumbnail and had to comment: that’s a great representation of fan sentiment. Chef’s kiss.

I was beyond excited with the trailer using all the original outfits and all then hopes and dreams were killed along with he-mans death.
i'm on skeletor's side on this one
In the old toons, Evil-Lyn was not like this, of course. Skeletor actually respected her and she was the one minion whom he did not boss around, and she has got her own agenda and often would betray Skeletor if it suited her. But Kevin Smith basically just turned her into Harley Quinn for Skele-Joker.
the 3D He-Man released around the same time was better

What?
what do you think of the ascent?
You sound like a very young dude, with no previous contact with the original series, and still found the NETFLIX version to be a sad joke.
I'm a middle-aged guy who watched the original show when I was a teenager.
After all I saw on UA-cam about it, I still had to see it for myself. And it goes exactly as you said, it's not even bad, it's boring and nonsense.
And make no mistakes, the show is bad for itself. Comparing it to the 80's show or listening to Kevin Smith's statements prior to its debut only makes things worse.
