Spot on. For this PS4/PS5 era generation there haven't been a lot of good new IP's. Part of it is most definitely the cost to produce and make games. I think the industry needs to take a step back and maybe start smaller projects instead of these billion dollar monstrosities that take 6 years to develop. Concord/Starfield. The only 2 memorable new IP's in the past 5 years from major studios are Cyberpunk and maybe Elden Ring(I feel it borrows way too much from the souls to be considered a proper new IP, still an excellent game)

The worst example is the ending letter. They really butchered her confused and emotionally unstable end. She said "I can't tell you to remember me, but I can't bear for you to forget me" and they changed it to "So that you remember me for who I was". The letter was as painful as any other character. She had such guilt for all he had given him. It just makes it more painful what he did because of that pain she regretted. It made you feel even more conflicted and bad for them. But the remake made it a pixar happy preachy hope letter.
@@magnusm4 You can't recreate the original letter. The actress literally cried during reading that letter and that was the one and only take they recorded and put into the game. You just can't beat REAL emotions. The letter in the remake isn't emotional in any way to me but I don't blame her, I honestly like how she read that because it's still better than faking emotions.
@@MultiKamil97 that's why they should use the original voice lines and respect one of the greatest games ever made and one of the greatest stories ever told.
I wrote a similar comment on TheGamingBrit's video. The idea that remakes replace the originals and that once a remake releases you don't have to bother with the original is probably one of the biggest arguments that gamers don't really consider video games art. Seems like a lot of gamers want every classic game to be remade from scratch so that it can be molded to fit their specific tastes and sensibilities ("This is a great game, but it should have done this instead.") and that honestly rubs me the wrong way. They think slapping “modern mechanics” on classic games automatically makes them better. It feels like nowadays you can’t praise the original unless it’s for the purpose of praising the remake, and every change that the remake did is “objectively” better and if you disagree, “you need to take your nostalgia goggles off” lol. This is why I have mixed feelings regarding modern remakes in general because they kinda ruin the discussions related to the original. It also doesn’t help that the gaming industry is the worst when it comes to preserving older titles and making them more accessible.
Yea, most modern players don't see games as art. Just look at any game with a huge modding scene. The players don't care about the game beyond it being a base for them to mold however they see fit, but what is the point? It's a meaningless waste of time at that point. You muddled the creation beyond the creators intent. Drawing a T-Rex on Mona Lisa would ruin it, but these people don give a shit about art.
@@AlexKr. It does not suck. Its just not to everyones tastes. Synthman hates Tomb raider classic, but i like them and had no issue adjusting after two levels which is 45-60 minutes. I tried modern controls, it ruins the whole experience because you have less control. I would love if modern games had weighty and slow movements, not like darks souls but like TR Classic with a modern twist.
@Samymaniac that's his opinion, and he probably has a reasonable explanation. What I'm saying is that most people say the controls are clunky because they can't stop comparing old games to newer controls, and also some can't understand that if they can't adjust to them doesn't mean they're clunky as well. And clunky controls aren't exactly a bad thing too. Yeah TR controls reinvented would be amazing but it would take creativity to do that and the industry seems to lack a lot of it nowadays
The excuse of “Its just a remake so they REMADE the designs” just doesn’t cut it. Like mentioned before, these Remake games always take AWAY they never GIVE. We can even list them and what they removed. RER2,3,4 = All heroines (the women) altered/censored in appearance from clothing, personality and looks + Story altered or mashed together like a rushed film, comical LOADS of missing content. FF7R-Rebirth = Nearly all female heroines altered (always the popular women right?) had their outfits outright forced altered/censored (Tifa looks terrible), story outright redacted and in “another timeline”. And finally Silent Hill 2 = altered/censored all the heroines (yet again), Angela (RIP wtf), Maria looks like she’s stepped out of a Lifetime TV movie, drawn out content, below average graphics when compared to P.T. released a decade ago on a LAST GEN console. This isn’t the future, its cashing in on valuable games that defined an entire generation of fans, franchises and gamers globally. All to nag us to say “well you can’t have that anymore, Grow up, get over yourself”. The push to modernize games for a swift profit making them accessible to all ages isn’t what these games were even designed for… just make new games that fits that criteria… its not hard.

Progressives went from :” Everything is political/what does woke even mean?” to “Why are you making it political?/it was always woke” In the span of a few years.
The “it was always woke/political” argument is inherently disingenuous. According to normies, games being impartially political in the past is apparently the same as games now being politically charged against only one side and never the other in an extremely patronizing and “our ideologies are always better than yours” fashion. I played the original only a few years ago. I *never* tear up for any video-game or movie (and I have watched a lot of them) Never have. Until SH2 when Mary starts reading the letter in the original - that actually got to me, and somehow, it STILL does. I never experienced anything like that before. The remake butchers it. Not just in terms of the voice acting. But visuals and the content of the letter. For example, look at the Leave ending. The text as it slowly scrolls past the screen in absolute silence along with a shot of the graveyard makes you focus completely on Mary's voice and the content of the letter. There is also no music. In the remake, you get this horribly mismatched ambient track in the background, and these random photos/shots of the town which also felt completely unnecessary. Couple that with the new voice actor's flat performance, it's just so ineffective. But the worst part is that certain key lines of dialogue were removed. Like the fact that Mary says she is afraid to die and is afraid that James will forget about her when she does. In the remake, she is no longer afraid, she just "wants the pain to end". This COMPLETELY alters the moral dilemma of James actions.

We didn't want a decade-spanning trilogy that cops-out with multiverse plot-mangling and silly filler. Great work across the board: graphics, gameplay, voice acting design updates, new/fun minigames... but we didn't want a legendary tale retold with the creative bankruptcy of having to crutch on multiverses, which is become a tired concept in most other sci-fi plots these days.
Right, I agree (except I never truly wished for a remake of any FF), but at the same time... why even care about FF7R at all? We shouldn't care. I don't. It's so incredibly late to give a damn about Final Fantasy. The series was over with the death of Square in 2003. I accepted that back then. And stopped caring then, about any later games - didn't think about them at all. Just like with Silent Hill after the end of Team Silent. Hence I was never disappointed or upset about what Enix'd-Square did with FF or what Konami allowed to happen with SH. But it should be noted that sort of like how Led Zeppelin was already past their prime before John Bonham died and the music wasn't the same anymore, things had already changed for the worse with the FF series prior to Square's death / Enix's takeover. It was obvious while they were making X-2 (which was made and finished 100% by Square; there's no "Square Enix" anywhere in the Japanese release) that things would really never be the same again, which was already fairly clear to see with FFX which is great and absolutely a genuine FF and vastly superior to any "FF" that came later, but a lot of what made the series _what it was_ was lost through the creation of FFX; _sacrifices_ were made in order to take the series into the PS2 era and some of those sacrifices were made partly for the sake of _impressing_ everyone - just to show what Square was capable of. And they succeeded in that, but at too great a cost. Not only in terms of the cost of those sacrifices, but also in financial terms; they spent too much money (making TSW at the same time) which ultimately killed them.

No, the modern normies are the ones contributing to this "gaming should be about culture wars on youtube". These seem to be the normies. Glad that the voice of actual people enjoying games with depth seems to get the upper hand this time, based on all the positive reviews by actual people playing it this game is getting. I'm also sensing more and more people getting fed-up with these click-bait "this game is woke, because I need it to be woke for my image" videos. Almost all of the negative reception seems to come from political activists, in denial with reality, rallying for clicks and money for themselves, who know very little about both the original games and the remakes. I think this would be a very welcome wake-up call to these "anti-woke" guys that they have bcome pretty much the same as the woke people, in denial of reality for the clicks and money they get from their political agenda activism.

Resident evil 1 remake is the perfect example of how to do a videogame remake because it didn't remove anything from the original game. It only improved it and even added something new. That's what happens when a remake is made by the creator of the original game
Resident Evil 1 from 2001 is still the gold standard. All these remakes have been inferior to the original. Conker, Ocarina, Metroid Prime, Halo Anniversary, Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy 7: either these games are just a graphics upgrade missing noticeable details/effects from the original or fundamentally changing the core gameplay. Resident Evil 1 added unique elements to the game making it a very different experience while still respecting the original's movement, combat, and camera systems.
I was really disappointed when RE4 didn't take this direction. I admit RE2 and RE3 were made into survival horrors in their remakes for the sake of being easier to consume, but RE4 literally didn't need that. It was already perfect.
There's a certain beauty of older games using technical limitations to create these absolute master pieces. The fact we see so many remasters of games that didnt need them is absolutely shameful. Resident Evil 4 for example is a perfect game that didn't need a remaster at all
That is truth and honestly the resident evil 2&3 remakes probably should have been closer to the GameCube resident evil remake honestly with classic tank controls and upgraded graphics.
Yep, they stripped it of it's charm IMO I wasn't keen on the new aesthetic or Slopcom's dull as dishwater modern writing style (based on the gameplay I've seen in playthroughs, no intention of buying it). The palette in the OG version was a key contributor to the game retaining a certain creepy atmosphere (akin to classic Italian Horror flicks), the remake just reminded me of those shite piss-filter Rob Zombie yawn-inducing gorefests.
Because you had/needed experts to get the most out of the hardware. Now there’s basically no limitations, which means they can hire any rando off the street, and they’ll make it generically “realistic” without any sort of flair added to differentiate it. Which is why modern games all look the same. That, and no one cares about good lighting. One dev did a breakdown on twitter, but essentially, Batman Arkham Knight looks better than “Sushi Squad” because companies are more focused on global lighting than what they did before. Part of that I’m sure is being easier for open-world games, but not everything is open-world anyway and still looks poor.

Something I heard on /v/ goes like this. Its "Avengers Endgame" logic. Normies NEED to be the "chosen" generation/fandom that had the "defining" experiences. They either never cared enough to experience something when it came out or didn't care enough to pursue it for its own sake despite missing it the first time. I missed FF7, but you bet your ass I chased it hard when I finally got the chance and experienced it. Hell, I used guides to get Yuffie and Vincent in my party because I wanted every party member. That's commitment, casual perhaps, but still commitment. I didn't wait till FF7R came out. And the excuse of "my generation has no defining media" is just that. An excuse. I grant the Zoomers and such that its not a complaint without SOME merit. I mean E3 is gone and all they have is Dustborn and similar ilk, but they refuse to attain the discipline and creativity to fix their problems by creating art for themselves. So fuck em. But they crave being the ones who saw the thing when it first came out and "experiencing" it so they can lord it over people who didn't FOMO it or whatever. They want something similar to when Star Wars 4-6 came out. Or, as stated, Endgame came out(even though that movie sucked ass it WAS a cultural milestone for better or worse). It's not a craving for art for the sake of impact but art for the sake of a cosmopolitan sort of participation award. And I even kind of get it to an extent, I played Kingdom Hearts all the way through Remind and the Data Battles in Remind were absolutely awesome to play through with the board and talking about theories and such. There is something worthwhile in being in a moment in time. But ultimately its not the point of art. Art is meant to last. Not to be a candle that burns out but a statue that lasts the test of time. I imagine people raved about The Statue of David when it came out but that doesn't mean that it has no artistic merit worth seeing it even years later. The same with video games. All it takes it leaving your comfort zone and immersing yourself in something new(or old) to experience it. But that would mean acknowledging that you are experiencing an old thing. And that means you can't hype about it on social media with millions of people. And that's all this amounts to. A desire for the feeling of new, rather then a meaningful experience. TLDR: Normies want to collect "I was there" moments rather than enjoy art. Simple as. Edit: Also that "Earthbound Fan" was not a real fan to begin with. Its one thing to play a character in Smash and then play his original game and another to latch onto tumblr/redditors and memes and then pretend like that made you a fan to begin with like you had some street cred. I never pretended I knew what FF7 was just because I liked Cloud from Kingdom Hearts. Fucker is just uppity. Its not the seeking that makes him illegitimate, its the attitude. That reminds me that I had purchased the original FF7, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana on Steam. I always putt off playing them because my backlog (of mostly old games) is insane. But that's the beauty of it; there's so many old gems to immerse yourself in, I am in no hurry, and I have no need for "modern" titles. It's also good to dive into the unknown; Xenoblade is a recent example for me. Never heard of the games until I did. And instead of watching YT videos (except combat tutorials to get into the game, because I was unfamiliar with these MMO/JRPG hybrid combat systems), I simply bought the Definitive Edition on Switch and started my journey; ended up playing all three games with their respective DLCs. It created many new, dear memories. And I played these games when the hype around 3 was already over. My interest is genuine. As you said; enjoy the art of the art's sake. To experience something. Synthetic said he cried during SH2, that means this game means something to him. I did the same during all three Xenoblade games. I can't imagine a normie actually getting invested so much as to feel genuine emotions (not these fake reactions you sometimes see on YT).
Too many don’t care about the art, it’s just an avenue to be “part of the discussion”. Which is why they freak out when anyone (new game or remake) has concerns leading up to release. Because their “enjoyment” hinges upon using it to gush to other people about it, rather than enjoy it for what it is. Sure, enjoying it in a communal aspect at launch would be nice, but I’m not about to buy something I realistically have no interest in, or buy it earlier than I can justify just for that alone. At the end of the day I’m buying it to play because it’s fun in its own right, the rest is ancillary. I’m not buying it solely to use as some ticket to open a discussion online/at work because without it I have nothing else to talk about. That’s pathetic.
I think it depends on the game and who's developing it, I really liked Capcom's Resident Evil remakes so far (RE3 was definitely the weakest of the bunch since it was obviously rushed out and missing tons of content, but the amount of game that was there was still quite good even though it was very short.) I'd rather see Capcom make a new 3rd person Resident Evil game with the classic characters in the style of the remakes, but I'll take what I can get and so far I'm liking the remake series. I don't think Silent Hill 2 should've been remade to begin with because it's so unique and I don't think the spirit of the original could ever be captured again.
You do know thats what the voice actress actually looks like irl right? She's nordic and has a large jaw. Sorry nordic beauty doesn't meet your standards.
Bro it hit me so hard that when I saw the opening shots of this video, I almost couldn't tell if that was the original uggo model or if someone actually modded in a slightly more Decuvni looking face xD
@@nobodyj-pf8uk There is no such thing as a great role model. You shouldn't model yourself after anyone else. Pick any person and dig around enough and you'll find something "terrible." Grow some confidence. If think someone needs a role model, you're weak. And no one needs the weak.
Every legacy game that they "fix" the combat in suddenly has to have that component as the central focus of the game. Its so tiresome. The original Tomb Raider games were about exploration, platforming and puzzle solving, with a short sharp shock of brief combat on top: primarily just to keep you on your toes. Now, the reboot trilogy is a goddam shooting gallery in which you have to fend off waves of forty enemies at a time, while the platforming is automatic, the puzzles braindead (and fenced off in option side rooms), and the levels are completely linear. (Don't think too much: just watch the fancy "cinematic" cutscene, and get to your next samey combat arena).
lol look at you tourists. Silent hill 2 gameplay was a downgrade from the original silent hill 1. None of you have played the game on release. I still remember when people were turned off because of the direction they took the series (disregarding the cult plot and changing what silent hill is). Silent hill 2 sales were lower which sent team silent to make an actual sequel to 1 with silent hill 3. Synthetic gamer and you guys know absolutely nothing of its history
@@graemevaughey7432 exactly the Tomb Raider Reboot Trilogy became an Uncharted ripoff with a downgraded Lara Croft. At least the Legend Trilogy still felt like Tomb Raider
My ideal tank controls are RE4 because it controls well but you are still on edge on every combat situation and not the doom slayer. Silent Hill 2 original also controls quite well for survival horror (the original RE trilogy controls annoyed me back then and annoy me now.)
You should see the tourists coping in the steam forums literally saying nothing was removed or toned down. I've been trolling them by responding to them with quotes from Silent Hill games and none of them even noticed. They are seething and oblivious and defending something they do not understand.
You would have liked the shilling around dawn of war 3. So many "true fans" who didn't recognize basic quotes from the first and second games. "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment" was my favorite to see them struggle with.
Remakes are great. There's nothing more I like than Jeet contractors badly recreating games made by devs and directors that caught lightning in a bottle. Only the name on the box matters after all!
Going into a door in the original was terrifying, the way the screen fades to black and then you have no idea what your getting yourself into was so creepy
The point of these remakes is to ruin the original by removing it from the public's minds. Whenever someone wants to buy the game, they will only find the remake.
You're literally the only dude who gets it. I've been railing against all these remakes and DEI nonsense for years while my friends ask me why "I'm so negative" about everything and keep playing these mediocre games that come out and praise them. People have such low standards now it's utterly infuriating. And I agree, boycott all games with even a whiff of DEI on them. Zero tolerance.
"Negativity" is the biggest gaslight and lie. They always pretend that “the bucnh of nerds who is not happy with everyone” goes and deliberately spoils the mood of happy customers. But in reality, everything is completely different. I give up on media years ago, I play old (but not retro) games, I don’t follow gaming news, because I know that nothing that interests me will come out. BUT. When the "Fallout TV show" came out, my feed was bombarded with news, updates and memes about the show, even though I only play Vegas and watch videos about it. But because the "Fallout TV show" had the word "FALLOUT" in the title and they are technically part of the same franchise, my recommendations were ruined. Even when I clicked not to recommend to me bunch of shill video, I still come across videos where frames from this garbage show are added. Despite the fact that this is not even a remake or a game, it is part of social engineering and programming.
I used to fantasize about having remakes for some of the games I liked back in the day, unfortunately having a "remake" now means that everything that made those games unique and personally enjoyable are sanded down to better conform to the current mediocre zeitgeist... The best I can hope for are "remasters/ports", but even then some propogandist/apologist within the development will cut, censor, and/or subtly change the intent because the mythical "modern audience" that totally exists within the market demands it.
Spot on. The only good thing I can take from all this is that all of what is happening right now in this decadent industry of videogames + the remake-slop scheme for easy money grabbing, reinforces the value of the original classics for eternity, it truly makes you to appreciate far more what we got back then, it's like nostalgia on steroids. We can always return back to our classics in their genuine original form to play them anytime and find infinite joy, even the imperfections made them unique in many ways, games were an art-form back then and the technical hardware limitations created truly unique experiences, storytelling was respected and taking care of. This modern industry with all their billions of dollars and top notch technology still don't get it, not to mention the poor souls born after the golden age of gaming, exceptions to this last norm are truly an extraordinary rarity, there's very few of them whom gets it.
Always wanted the Legacy of Kain series remade or remastered now I'm worried how much they will butcher the series. Same with Morrowind and Oblivion, I don't care if they do I know they will be crap. Only looking forward to Skywind and Skyblivion
Consider the following: Normies had their culture erased by public education and are now colonizing gamer's culture because we're so enthusiastic about it.
Games were too profitable and created good escapism. It's a two-for-one for these hacks to make money while trying to dement anything you loved. Thankfully their sales are beginning to tank as they inject more garbage into their titles.
Normies never had a culture tho, did they? Isn't that what makes them normies? I'm not a normie though. What was the last thing normies liked? Friends? Jersey Shore? All of that and sportsball? Everything has been atomized, even for the normies. So much choice.
I've always found it funny how anybody who's passionate about music or film will discuss albums or movies released 60+ years ago and nobody finds that odd. But for "gamers" even games released less than 20 years ago are "too janky" for them to enjoy it. If you can't enjoy games from the PS1 and PS2 without shiny modern controls and graphics (or even earlier stuff like NES and arcade games) you simply are not a gamer.
Even if the controls are too janky, you get used to it. Because the atmosphere, the level design, the music, the soul are worth completing the game for.
I just went from playing Metroid Dread to Super Metroid. Yeah the controls feel hella janky at first. Jumping and no access to things like holding onto cliffs or free aim. Metroid Dread and AM2R definitely had me spoiled haha. Still loving the game though. Just about at the end
1:56 - The bad-looking "bad combat" there (that attack repeating) is a symptom of playing without pressure sensitivity. That same-attack-again-and-again fighting experience isn't part of the game. It doesn't happen, the combat doesn't look like that, when you play on a PS2 with a DualShock 2 (nor if you play emulated with a DS2/DS3 set up in such a way that pressure sensitivity works). It only happens when you're playing with a controller lacking pressure sensitivity, _or_ playing a version of the game lacking pressure sensitivity support, _or_ using a pressure sensitive controller but the pressure sensitivity not working for some reason. The above-mentioned stuff in SH2 is little bit similar to how people play MGS2 and MGS3 with non pressure sensitive controllers and have problems with multiple aspects of the gameplay and thinking the controls are difficult and bad etc, without realizing it's happening solely because they don't have pressure sensitivity. The MGS2 and MGS3 problems caused by that are of course much more disastrous than the comparatively minor combat problem in SH2, but it's similar in that _the cause_ is the same and people mistakenly thinking it's how the game is. Somewhat related is how Silent Hill supports the DualShock's analog sticks; you don't have to control Harry with the directional buttons, but a lot of people emulating SH are unaware of this and they don't select "DualShock" or "analog controller" in their emulator settings (or do but don't realize they have to turn analog mode on). And then they complain about the controls being bad, or thinking that they're tiring. Steering Harry with the left stick is much more comfortable; much less tiring, and in most areas (especially outdoors) provides an experience that's simply better and more fun.
its Better to Download The PC version with Enchance Mods, that attack Repeating its just Simple if you Press and Hold attack button if you add Move button or Press it with delay it will show Diffrent attack method
@@x0j Emulating and having pressure sensitivity with a DS2 or DS3 _is possible._ But it can be impossible in some situations. It's impossible if the DS2 USB adapter isn't recognizing the pressure sensitivity from the controller (if the adapter just treats all the buttons as digital ones). And also, whether one uses a DS2 or a DS3, it's impossible to get pressure sensitivity to work if the method (the programs/tools/drivers) that enables it to work isn't compatible with the OS (the latest methods require Win 10 so those methods are impossible on older Windowses).
Angela standing above you on the stairs, talking about you saving her while you're watching it from James POV, is her talking to the player too. Telling them that this is not a game where you end up saving the girl.
Same. In a few years I have read more than some people in their entire life, lol. Seriously, people should read more. Older, more refined books. I was shocked how my friends said that they don't read. One, who works as a teacher said reading one book per year during summer break. Rest of the books he listens in audio while driving to work.
@gronndar Tbf, visual media is just an advancement of books. It brings the imagination to life, and because of that books are deemed as boring and outdated. I used to leave reading throughout my entire school years. I read White Fang by Jack london in the 2nd grade, and that shit advanced my reading and writing levels very early on. But just like movies and games, there's so much goddamn slop garbage. NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER!!!. And it just ends up being 50 shades of grey lmao
Likewise, I found out reading to make me more at peace and also expanding vocabulary and views. For instance last time I read Metro and it was far more engaging than playing games.

What part of the original game isn't there anymore. I'll wait. The remake is great and personally stands alongside the OG pretty well, save for some buggy parts and some lesser voice acted scenes. Music is astounding, sound design is great. Half of you people haven't even sat down and played the damn thing. @@e-tean-son4146People’s excuse for even playing the remake is that the original isn’t ported to modern platforms, so their “only option” is the remake because they don’t want to buy used copies of the original (despite spending $400-500+ on current consoles), and that emulating is “too hard”. Even though it only requires maybe 10mins of setup. Download the emulator/roms, configure your preferred control method, load rom. You don’t even need some powerful PC to run it either. I’d rather take the word of the original silent hill 2 director (masashi tsuboyama) who said the remake is the best way to experience silent hill 2 instead of a hypocrite who promotes remakes when companies gives him their money
These drones always act like it's a good thing these remakes are made, as if it's breathing new life into the series. There's absolutely no new discussion or anything of value to be said about remakes, especially when the tourists' vocabulary is limited to zoomerspeak. All the new fanmade content it generates is just bandwagoning "career xitter artist" tier slop, all fashioned in the remake's ugly bowdlerized style. And any new game that comes out will be the exact same engine and design philosophy as the remake, recapturing none of the series' former glory or original appeal. So rather than "breathing new life" into a series, a remake is more like an invitation to twerk on the series' grave, while displaying its exhumed remains as an overpriced roadside attraction.
I was bullied for a long time for playing videogames. Bullied by males who wanted me to constantly get drunk with them, or females who couldn't understand why I would spend money on the hobby, while they got their nails & hair done or binged Netflix or whatever. But I didn't give a F'k. I simply never cared what anyone else thought. They have their own thing and who did they think they were for condemning my thing? I had the realization that if they had a problem with me playing videogames, then they weren't worth associating myself with. They would always call me "weird", but most of them have pathetic lives, be it alcoholism, drug abuse, broken relationships, constant depression, etc, etc. Yeah, I'm so glad that I never gave their opinion any credence.

Thats what happens when you have developers who don’t optimise their games, its like they think UE5 will optimise the game for them despite the fact UE5 games need to be optimised and there are cases of UE5 games that are optimised it’s just that modern developers and higher ups don’t want to spend time doing that.
You’ve almost word for word extracted the takeaways I got from this remake. If this wasn’t SH2, it would be a competent action game with horror elements. But it’s not - it’s based on one of the greatest pieces of art in gaming history. It’s hilarious they used Homecoming as the gameplay standard here, considering the blowback with that game back then. Just shows where we are these days. This remake is for people with short attention spans. It’s genuinely amazing people are calling this “a mOdErN mAsTeRpiEcE” when it just plays like every action game from the last 10 years.
Its crazy how they make all female characters in big games today masculine. Probably because men dressed as women are buying these games and playing more than actual women since you know, testosterone and biological tendencies towards problem solving. And normal men just put up with it. The las silent hill demo with that weird room was insanely creepy and good. Why didn't they go that direction instead of making another resident evil copy? So disapointing. Gaming is definetly going downhill comercially. Even if their profit margin is still high. It's almost all crap. Space marine 2 was dope. Still just a foward slasher though. Look at the new Zelda staring... the princess... and having a lego game animation. It's clearly made for teen girls and teenage boys with sexuality issues, and ofcourse die hard fans have to buy it and praise it even though it's long gone from the original. We're seeing this now in every single cult classic
people wrongly assume the criticism of Angela you hear from a lot of fans is because she isn’t “attractive” but clearly it’s because she looks like a different person entirely. original design had a pale, sickly, almost malnourished look about her with the bony cheeks and such. What was the purpose of giving her a fat face? It just comes off as an unnecessary change.
True. As a man who grew up in the 80s 90s and early 2000s Everything these days feels souless back in the 90s music, movies, women and video games had like heart and soul like a genuine feeling now days idk feels cheap and heartless.
The strange thing is, "games aren't supposed to be fun" as a principle was simultaneously accepted in the worst way possible (cinematic sony slop) and rejected in its most agreeable form (that games should be respected both in form and content as they were made by their devs originally rather than being seen in a utilitarian way where flashier graphics or less awkward controls are seen as inarguable improvements - imagine how laughable it would be in the movie industry if some remake of Citizen Kane in colour and with 3D effects tried to sell itself as the superior version to the original.)
Adaptations should be the way to go if they really have to re-tread all these old franchises. How about adapting Silent Hill 2 but it's set in Feudal Japan or the wild west or something idk. At least it would be kind of original. Films do that all the time, like the Departed was based on a Chinese movie.
I don’t know what it is but seeing old graphics just feels more assuring to me that the game has a higher chance of being good. Cause despite the mid quality of graphics it also feels as if the development teams took more time with the core gameplay, level design, enemy encounter, and good progression. But because now everyone is all in favor of better than before graphics and the best heartfelt story of all the time, all the time, energy, and talent is put in to making it look realistic, and play out as if it were a movie, rather than making sure you play the mass majority of the game to help it be more immersive to you. Most developers can make a game look real, but it’s another thing to make it feel real, make more immersive and captivating.
Rewatching old underrated non👃movies from the 70s-90's is the same thing. You just know that well hasn't been poisoned as severely, and there are plenty to discover.
I mean, they still put a tremendous amount of effort into the graphics when they made the OG, it was just a matter of technological limitations. There's no way more effort was put into the remake regarding that - it's just modern engine slop, it takes much less time to put together than you might think.
The reason remakes can never surpass a game that is already revered by fans is due to the concept of “capturing lightning in a bottle” the time a game comes in, the little deliberate details the original creator adds to the game, the vibe it gave people for the first time, the innovation and game design simply cannot be recaptured again and will always disappoint the original fans
Finally, someone said it: the original Silent Hill 2 is better. The remake doesn't resonate as much as the original. Just because it's a newer, updated game doesn’t make it better.
Wild thought -- but what if you just like both? There's no need for one to be better than the other. The original is a classic with a lasting legacy and the remake is a solid reimagining that is surprisingly well done -- and this is coming from someone who hated the concept of a remake when they released the first early footage. I feel like remake gives a negative connotation to it because it gives the impression that the remake is trying to /replace/ the original game. The best remakes don't aim to do this, they aim to reimagine the original while adding fresh ideas and updating controls. Like people can whine about RE4 Remake as much as they want, but the parry mechanic is such a damn good idea and is a perfect example of how a remake can offer a fresh take on something.
@@RossCastro The problem is that when you take a masterpiece like Silent Hill 2 as art and not just a game, you can't just say, "why can't they both exist and be as good in different ways?." The worst example is the ending letter.

Yeah exactly I cringe when I hear someone say the tomb raider classics suck because the gameplay is clunky (which it isn't)

Virtually no-one wanted the FFVII we have now. We wanted modern graphics, modern mechanics, modern composing.

Because you had/needed experts to get the most out of the hardware. Now there’s basically no limitations, which means they can hire any rando off the street, and they’ll make it generically “realistic” without any sort of flair added to differentiate it. One dev did a breakdown on twitter, but essentially, Batman Arkham Knight looks better than “Sushi Squad” because companies are more focused on global lighting than what they did before. The rewrites of Leon, Ada and Claire's characters also disappointed me. But nah, normies told me the remakes were better despite having no point of reference from the original.

Attempts to make everything look realistic is ruining gaming. Back in the day technical limitations forced developers to stylise their games and create something distinct. Nowadays everyone is chasing perfect realism and it ends up looking dated within a year or two. Silent Hill 2 remake is a perfect example of this. The original has a dreamlike, surreal quality to it because the devs could only do so much with the technology available. Meanwhile the remake just looks like reality ran through a smear filter. It's ugly and will age faster than the original in way less time.

Also I bet he got filtered by Frank. I bet you money he got filtered by Frank and didn't say anything about it in the article. If not Frank he DEFINITELY got filtered by the Ant. I seriously doubt he made it to the Police Station.

Huge wall of text but 100% correct. It think this whole fomo culture they have is just a cope due to them living in a moment of cultural and social decline, it's probably why some of them have such a big love towards Japan and other foreign cultures.
@Kydino they claim to love Japan but its just power level nonsense or a desire to turn Japanese culture to a censored minstrel show where its Japanese but not TOO Japanese.

I'd rather see Capcom make a new 3rd person Resident Evil game with the classic characters in the style of the remakes, but I'll take what I can get and so far I'm liking the remake series.

Normies had their culture erased by public education and are now colonizing gamer's culture because we're so enthusiastic about it.
You're onto something here
Games were too profitable and created good escapism.
Did “gamers” not go through the education system?
The difference is colonization brought improvement
I've always found it funny how anybody who's passionate about music or film will discuss albums or movies released 60+ years ago and nobody finds that odd. But for "gamers" even games released less than 20 years ago are "too janky" for them to enjoy it. If you can't enjoy games from the PS1 and PS2 without shiny modern controls and graphics (or even earlier stuff like NES and arcade games) you simply are not a gamer.
Even if the controls are too janky, you get used to it. Because the atmosphere, the level design, the music, the soul are worth completing the game for.

Steering Harry with the left stick is much more comfortable; much less tiring, and in most areas (especially outdoors) provides an experience that's simply better and more fun.
its Better to Download The PC version with Enchance Mods, that attack Repeating its just Simple if you Press and Hold attack button if you add Move button or Press it with delay it will show Diffrent attack method
the ps2 emulator doesn't support pressure sensitive buttons, I don't even think SDL input library does
I'm replaying on ps2 hardware now and this is correct btw
@@x0j Emulating and having pressure sensitivity with a DS2 or DS3 _is possible._ But it can be impossible in some situations. It's impossible if the DS2 USB adapter isn't recognizing the pressure sensitivity from the controller (if the adapter just treats all the buttons as digital ones). And also, whether one uses a DS2 or a DS3, it's impossible to get pressure sensitivity to work if the method (the programs/tools/drivers) that enables it to work isn't compatible with the OS (the latest methods require Win 10 so those methods are impossible on older Windowses).
MGS3 and MGS2's issue of pressure sensitivity buttons were largely fixed in later releases, HD collection and beyond.

What part of the original game isn't there anymore. I'll wait.
The remake is great and personally stands alongside the OG pretty well, save for some buggy parts and some lesser voice acted scenes.
Music is astounding, sound design is great.
Half of you people haven't even sat down and played the damn thing.
I played SH2 in 2006 and to this day it's still one of my favourite games, and I almost love the remake more.
You guys are part of the problem as to why we cannot have nice things anymore.
This isn't a replacement, it's an adaptation and it's done well with a ton of love and detail.
If you cannot appreciate it, or this fucking clownass youtuber, then it isn't for you. I hope Bloober makes 1 and 3 and does the same job on both, because then it'll be perfection.
Damn, it's too bad that the new version completely removes the original from existence, now i only will be able to play the remake
And since Konami lost the source code, it likely won’t get ported. So to those people it IS “removed from existence”.

If people like to buy old consoles to play old games, because they like the purist experience, let them be, i can see why they find enjoyment in it. If these people aren't confortable with emulation and want to play a remake of a game they never played before, let them be, most of them seem happy and they aren't hurting anyone.
To me at least you seem to be mad that people are enjoying something you hate
TheGamingBritShow put it perfectly: if you played SH2 Remake don't even kid yourself into thinking you've experienced Silent Hill 2.
What's missing from the experience? Shitty dated graphics, 20 year old control scheme, bad voice acting, retarded lines badly translated from Japanese, poorly written characters (Eddie) and the least scary "horror" game ever created?

Rather be glued to the screen than be stuck in a dead end relationship, addicted to substances, and surrounded by a bunch of emotional vampires making your life hell
and the funny/ironic thing is - these fkwads are now playing random shit themselves too, be it CoD/Fifa or Candy Crush
like mindless drones flocking to whatever becomes popular since they have no personality or thoughts of their own
You can also have healthy relationship with no alcoholism. Yes it's possible, but you convince yourself, self-assure you picked well to silence your consience xD
I mean i'm kinda the same i fuckin love video games, playing them, discovering new franchises i havent played. RN im playing Baldur's gate 2 and it's a blast.
But i'm not lying to myself that people who chose not to dive into gaming hard in their lives are miserable NPCs xD

I legitimately cannot tell if the thumbnail was a shoop of David Duchovny or not.
I think it's edited because the face has a 5 o'clock shadow lol. I haven't played this game but I find it hard to believe she looks THAT much like David Duchovny.
The game runs poorly on high end PCs as well. I’m shocked the Steam reviews are still “Overwhelmingly Positive” despite the constant stuttering.
Most reviews were by people who never finished the game and looking to never will.

B-but I watched a video essay about SH2 from my favorite BreadTuber™️! I’m a real fan! I swear!
people wrongly assume the criticism of Angela you hear from a lot of fans is because she isn’t “attractive” but clearly it’s because she looks like a different person entirely. original design had a pale, sickly, almost malnourished look about her with the bony cheeks and such.
@@Flyon86 Ran is Shakespeare in Japan and it's a masterpiece.
Original > Remake.
I’d rather play my 90s games then new slop
such a bold and unpopular opinion!!
There are lots of remakes that are actually better or just refreshed for the modern times
@@DrooledOn Normies can’t handle 90s games because they want the best graphics and don't want to emulate the game.
Man... even Silent Hill: Homecoming didn't have you kill 300 enemies.
Yeah but the combat sucked ass
In Silent Hill 3, you even got a bad ending if your count hit 100+ (or something to that effect) in one run. Heather becoming bloodcrazed.
The bad end of SH3 was if you took 4000+ points of damage. There is no relation to enemies killed
@@RossCastro The problem is that when you take a masterpiece like Silent Hill 2 as art and not just a game, you can't just say, "why can't they both exist and be as good in different ways?."
If anyone were to say, "I just remade the statue of David", or "I just remade the painting of the sistine chapel", and then said "Why can't you just admit that both of these are equally as likeable and comparable". Everyone would laugh and anyone with any understanding of what art means, would criticize that.
