Watching this video made me having problems of choosing between going to Iceland or this stunning route in 2024. Your videos usually have a very high standard of quality, but i think this is on it´s own level.
Hey Johan, ohhhh that’s a difficult decision 🤔 Iceland is truly spectacular! (We hired a Suzuki Jimny and drive around the country) Really glad to hear you enjoyed this one 😊🙌🏻
We did the Dolomites & Stelvio last year. We stayed in the valley for 2 nights so got to hit Stelvio several times over that period. The hidden little secret is Umbrail - so many people ride past the turn off, it is a great ride down to the other side. We are planning another tour next year to explore more of the Alps and down the Adriatic coast. It's such a different land to where we live in Western Australia. Keep up the great work we are enjoying your travels.
Hi, sounds like a great trip! it's really good as you did when you can stay in the area as it can be difficult to pick which passes to ride if one is just passing through. I've been to Australia many years ago so yeah i see it's a big contrast -actually we are very overdue another visit Australia is an amazing country =) Thanks for your kind words and support. Amazing and really stunning views especially from the Stelvio 🥰 thank you so much for sharing the wonderful impressions. Hope to see you on the road one day or on the next Touratech Travel Event 🍀🤞🤘🙏😎🤙
Thanks for your comment and we are really glad you enjoyed it!! Yeah that would be cool -see you at the 2024 travel event if not before on the road 😎🙌🏻
Hi Ruud, thanks! Great to hear you enjoyed it 😊. That’s awesome, I’ve never ridden a sidecar -is it more difficult on the steep tight turns than a two wheeler? -I would love to have a go of one 😎👍🏻
It's a completely different way of riding. I only can advise you to get a ridingcourse from a qualified instructor. He/She will explain the ins and outs of sidecarriding. You will be surprised how much fun it is. It would also be a nice oppertunity for Emily to share this experience. Maybe a new way of transport for future adventures. I do ride my sidecar for almost 16 years now, with a total motorcycle experience for about 41 years, and still with great pleasure. Have fun and stay safe.
Thanks Ruud, very interesting. Wow you must really enjoy it -that's great to hear! I think if Emily got in a sidecar she might be tempted to have a sleep and we would have half the footage heheh 😊.
As a Swiss cyclist just returning from a ride I thought "Stelvio, Klausen, Fluela and Umbrail Pass..." wow that's incredible... ... then I saw the R1250, which put everything into perspective again ;-) The route is indeed incredibly beautiful and a bit off the usual tourist routes, like Susten, Gotthard, Nufenen, Furka etc.
We did see a lot of Cyclists on those passes -big respect to you guys! The Swiss mountain passes are incredibly beautiful and we are very grateful to live here. Glad you enjoyed the video. All the best Sean and Emily
You need a word with YT. Been watching bike content on here for years & today is the first time (as far as I'm aware at least) your channel has come up. Just watched you Susten Pass & now this. All places I've been in the past on many different bikes, but what ever bike, always an amazing trip. From the UK last year, we went down to Montreux, round Geneva then on to Chamonix, avoiding all major roads and always taking the long way to get from A to B. Did a few smaller trips this year mainly UK, next main trip Spain again next year, ferries all booked. But watching this, seriously thinking about an extra long weekend down here again, I love these Passes and got photos of different bikes at the top of most... Keep the great content coming, cheers.... 👍👍👍
Hi Jon and welcome to our channel! Haha I will let them know lol 😆 totally agree with you there, the passes are amazing no matter what one is riding, sounds like a great trip you did I hope the weather was good for you! Our friends hired the bikes from BMW basel so a fly in long weekend would be perfect for hitting the passes! We not long got back from Spain, in case you are still researching fir done places here’s our heading south playlist, would be cool to hear what you think about it. Hi again, Yep, slowly going through your past content now, all looks amazing, I'll give you an update when I've got through them all. Got to admit I prefer to ride to places, not one for flying anywhere, anymore... Really looking forward to Spain, done it to death, but still roads there not riden. Best is Sad Hill Cemetery, if your a fan of, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, just over from Burgos. Have a great & safe trip, just about to watch your latest, 'Abandoned boarder pass', out of viewing order I know, but hey... Cheers... @@SeanandEmily
Actually I had forgotten how tricky the Umbrail was ….then I took our guests there lol 🤣 -they did great though. The main issue is a lot of the tight corners are completely blind 😳
Hello Evan's Mum! It's so nice to have you watching, we had such a great time riding the swiss and Italian alps with Evan and Wendy! Lovely to hear from you 😊
Good analysis of the Stelvio. Rode it in July, and agree, it's very technical. The Grosglockner in Austria is my favourite pass to date. Great videos 👍
That was stunning guys! Didn’t realise I’ve done that road until you stopped in Davos, it was over 25 years ago and the Stelvio was in need of repair , it was a bit of. Nightmare to be honest , nice to be watching from home because I missed most of the scenery when riding those roads , I do remember the amount of concentration needed to ride the passes , well done , another great video and brilliantly edited, Graham L
Hi Graham, that’s so very true sometimes when concentrating we miss the scenery 😁 -that’s why we love making these afterwards to relive the experience. That’s a pain of a place to need repairs -I hope you got it fixed! Cheers Sean and Emily

They are amazing places!!! No matter how many times we go there they always amaze us! =) Hehe yes agreed! The engine braking is fantastic! -almost do need to actually brake heheh
Nice video well edited and well narrated - it’s a lovely area to ride and you are right lots of bikers head for the better known areas so the traffic is usually light.
Hi, thanks so much for your comment and encouragement! We really like riding these at either the start or end of the season, but in the evening was good too. Best regards Sean and Emily 😎🙌🏻
Yeah the Susten is pretty good too! At the end of this playlist we also take in the Furka and Grimsel - it's too difficult to choose a favorite 😎👍 Thanks for watching Bill and we appreciate your comments.

Really neat video. A few questions - From Bormio until the top of Umbrail is it as narrow as the ascent from the swiss side? Between Stelvio and Umbrail which one was less fun from a riding perspective?
Thanks! If I remember rightly (the last time we rode down to Bormio was at night in a gigantic thunderstorm lol) the accent from Bormio to Umbrail it’s less steep but still lots of fun, I think it has better visibility too. The Stelvio is good around 18:00 as there’s usually not so many people there. The Umbrail is less busy but really tight and steep as you can see on the video. The Stelvio although ‘overrated’ is iconic and you might regret not riding it 😎👍🏻 Saying that the routes aren’t that long so maybe do both 😁
You did the Stelvio on the Transcontinental! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 nice one! We took that out last year and it was as you say tricky but a lot of fun 😎. ua-cam.com/video/T-eAW4oZKiA/v-deo.html
Great vid again 👍 I think the Stelvio is overrated : although it is a must do, it is not the most “fun” to ride, especially going North to South. The other side to or from Bormio is more fun 😉 The Umbrail is on the contrary very underrated. And the gravel end of it made it even more special to ride (that was less than 15 years back). The bottom of the Splugenpass is very technical too. In the Dolomites, my favorite pass is the Giau, and the Gardena - Sella - Pordoi (with the view from up there as a reward 🤩)
Thanks very much! Yeah totally agree with you there, unless ridden in the late afternoon when it’s empty it’s not the most enjoyable of rides but for sure 👌 be of the must do passes. Yeah they are great passes too, it’s hard to keep track of them as there are so many! I think we go to Pordoi in the next episode of that playlist ua-cam.com/video/6GYtbyOJTjQ/v-deo.htmlsi=hjfRgh-c4OR7qJs8 Thanks for watching 😎👍🏻
Great video bringing back lots of good memories, except for the Italian side of the Stelvio which was pretty hair raising. I recall the road surface being poor compared with the Swiss passes, but even worse was the fact that bikers would ride down two or even three abreast, even through the hairpins. You were absolutely right to do it when there is no one else around.
Hi Stephen, thanks! Glad to hear it brought back some good memories! Yeah it's funny as soon as you cross the border into Italy the road conditions change dramatically lol. Yeah a lot of daft things going on on that pass, when it's congested it's not much fun.
At the point, at around 29 minutes, you referred to the pass you had just finished, as not for even medium riders, that it was quite an advanced route. Where does Hard Knott rate, in comparison?
That's an interesting comparison, would say the Hardknott felt steeper however the Stelvio's hairpins are tighter and more abundant of course. I would say if you are happy with either one then neither will be a problem 😎👍
