  • We have lived in our yurt for five years in four different locations. In that time, we have learned so much.
    Now, for the first time, it sits on our own land, providing us a stepping stone for our next project.
    We go over commonly asked questions, and give advice for folks looking to follow a similar path. Thanks for watching!

    Youz reminded of my fave Zen saying:
    Before enlightenment, you must chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, you must chop wood and carry water.
    Be well you two!

    We have a couple yurts in the interior of Alaska. My biggest complaint is outside noises. If there’s a neighbor with noisy dogs nearby; it’s nerve wracking

      Sure is! We’ve had that neighbors dog too!

    Genghis Khan shunned palaces, preferring to live in a yurt.

    Thanks for sharing you guys! I saw your interior hand pump....is that going to a rainwater collection cistern or did you do a shallow water pump?

      Hi David! At the time we had a external water storage tank (250 gallon) that we would refill about once a month from a nearby water source

      Our county approved a Sunmar composting toilet for our yurt. Paid the permit fee and that was that!

    Why do you need a permit from the county? It's YOUR PROPERTY. County has NO ownership or interest in your property. Learn your rights.

      What are those rights? Lol the only right Americans have are the right to remain silent 🚓🚨👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️👮‍♂️

    Also I love that you've been able to move this so often. For the base do you have plans available? Or was this provided from Pacific Yurt? Thanks again!

    • @sam_zach
      @sam_zach  Рік тому +1

      We used Pacific Yurt platform plans: www.yurts.com/downloads/ We reconstructed our platform with the same materials every time we moved and that worked well. With our fourth and most recent build, we tried a different method of insulation, so we added some new materials. You can see what we did in our video ua-cam.com/video/QDM_AkF2I88/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!

    When you chose your yurt, did you consider any other brands?

    • @sam_zach
      @sam_zach  Рік тому +1

      We were tempted by brands using more natural fibers, but those were outside of our price range. At the time that we were shopping around, we were living in Oregon, so Pacific Yurts was nearby. This saved us money on shipping costs, and they offered helpful and friendly service!

    • @Shelleys4Seasons
      @Shelleys4Seasons Рік тому

      @sam_zach hi! Just found your channel and we are looking unto yurts also looked at some natural but they are I Canada and honestly outside of the price being more I worry 2020 replay hits and our yurt is stuck across boarders. It was a 21 ft, how much space would you say the 20 gives you? I thought about going with a 24. Little more room there will be 3 adults and 3 kids in ours. Do want it to be easy enough to move in a few years if need be. I see also instead of a deck you did blocks.

      Sounds great Peter. A drier, less cold climate accommodates a yurt nicely.
