One Year Living Off the Grid in a Yurt
In this video, we take you on a tour of our 20ft diameter Pacific Yurt. We built our yurt off the grid in the north woods, and have been living in it now for a year!
This tour dives into all of the systems we've built to make our yurt living as comfortable and practical as possible. Everything built, we've done ourselves and with friends.
Thank you for watching!

A Dream in a Yurt
Переглядів 6469 місяців тому
In this video, I share a dream. A dream in which our yurt was no longer in the woods on our land, but somewhere in the desert. Everything was the same, though just slightly different. I felt comfortable in the desert, in my home, and with my people. Thanks for watching! If you'd like to support us and what we're up to, consider: patreon.com/user?u=85022895
Building an OFF GRID Outhouse

In this video, we take the only structure that was on our land at purchase, a rundown hunting blind, and transform it into our outhouse. Thanks for watching! If you'd like to support us and what we're up to, consider: patreon.com/user?u=85022895
Planting Tree Saplings | Off Grid Yurt

Spring melts the winter away! As we approach the summer, and full time living on our land, we confront a muddy, cold spring. We begin hauling out more furniture and goods, planting Norway pine saplings, and enjoy the sun on our face!

Life in an Off Grid Yurt... in four locations
Переглядів 21 тис.Рік тому
We have lived in our yurt for five years in four different locations. In that time, we have learned so much. Now, for the first time, it sits on our own land, providing us a stepping stone for our next project. We go over commonly asked questions, and give advice for folks looking to follow a similar path. I subscribed. Could you make a video how you manage to 40 acres ? 😮
Man i want to do this in quebec canada so bad! Saving now.
Hey! Where are you guys located? Saw you mentioned the northwoods. My wife and I just bough land in northern Wisconsin and have money down on a 21' Yurta yurt. Maybeee getting it up this fall still.
how do you keep yurt material from getting moldy?
Wait wait wait how much was the land?
do you ever have mold issues?…If i do this I want running water, a shower, a toilet, and electricity. if I can do that then I would love this.
It was cool to see your Fisher wood stove at the end of the video. Fisher was my first wood stove, purchased in 1976 (or so), and of all the wood stoves I have owned/used since then, it was the one that I recall with the fondest memories. Simple, reliable, and well built. I have heated my home exclusively with wood for the last 18 years. I wish you all the best on your journey back to the land!
Lovely and encouraging watching your journey! Keep it up. Any tips for ppl aspiring to do the same?
You guys are awesome I love your set up. I'm just sitting here so sad wanting to have a place of my own away from all of the noise and chaos of the matrix. So sick of barely getting by and being away from nature. You both are living my dream I really hope I can have a beautiful place like you have and have cats and dogs and chickens. Stay amazing I'm wishing you both the best. I have to get away from all these robotic people who are so asleep . We all need to get back to nature. This is not how humans are supposed to live just working watching TV and always struggling to just pay rent. Love what you guys are doing. Please send me some good luck and energy I really need it. Peace and love guys!
Everything you said 👍🏿
What kind of system do you use for the bathroom? What did you do about bathing or laundry. I’m always curious what set ups people have esp those who have snowy winters as we do in Canada.
Where did you source the poly insulation?
From a local marine fabric manufacturer
Well done yurtsters :)
Great video thanks, God bless 🥰🤗
Very cool
How much was the land, how many acres?
For light I use solar lanterns with aa batteries which are rechargeable and are easy to charge up all year round … they have a lovely warm light good enough for winter..
An Anatolian/Arabic maljis floor sofa would be great in there. Just a Cultural recommendation 👍
Loving the channel. Thanks for the videos.
Iam looking for about your products place lace me a massage.when I post this, I am looking for more information on this. Can find this or much run . How you all up together.
Wait, but do you rent, own, or squat on the land?
In da yoop?
Love the progress you guys have made on the both the interior of the yurt and the outside. Wish you had done more video's of the progress. Would have been nice to have seen your build of the kitchen and the wood shed. Keep up the great work. Still inspiring.
Hi there. How high is your yurt?
Lol wtf bank approves a 5k loan for a yurt??
Us Bank
You can get a personal loan for just about anything.
Hey very informative things are getting very expensive these days. What do you like about living in the Yurt? How did this all come about ? And the preparations to do this? Is it very cost-effective? Your place looks so amazing and comfy. Thank you for the tour.
What is the dimension?!
31 nice!
Jeep Wrangler CJ, YJ, or TJ could easily handle that quad trail, Plus be street legal, and carry a lot more each trip.
Thanks for a great video Sam and Zach! Very affordable! I'm curious what state you live in and if you've had any problems with rodents or bears?
Hey Peter, We've lived in the yurt in multiple states, West Coast and Upper Midwest, and haven't had any rodent problems. The decking platform the yurt is built on is pretty air tight and insulated with foam. We keep food and trash sealed the best we can to decrease the interest of animals
woohoo. love you guys.
Where can I get land like yours for my yurt 😊?
Lovely home...I adore yurts so I couldn't deny Special Agent Dale Cooper 🐈 a subscription lol...tfs...
Thanks so much! 😊
Where did you guys find such thick batting? That looks like incredible insulation for a yurt.
Hey Alan, we purchased it from a commercial upholstery company. It came two inches thick, 3.5 ft wide, and in 40ft length rolls. It changed how the yurt holds heats dramatically!
@@sam_zach Thanks!
So pleased to see how you are growing and thriving. Sending blessings to you three from Ely.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Awesome! Is there any concern with critters or bears digging through the canvas when your not around? I think like on my land in NE Minnesota I see quite a few critters.
Yes, totally concerned. During the summer we tried to keep food sealed and air tight, and our trash stored in a separate shed. Winter we’re not so worried. What we’re really looking forward to is getting a dog to keep guard
@sam_zach Thanks! I wasn't sure if I was missing something - I had built a shed last year and while I was still building it a bear pawed at the corner and door (trail cam pic + paw prints). I've been keeping the bit of food I have in a airtight pelican footlocker style box which seems to have kept bear, rodents, and pine martin away so far. Best wishes, -Nate
I believe that was the back side of Monkey Face @:35. Been there - loved Smith and the greater Bend area.
You’re spot on 🤙🏼
Great video! I love the lay-out and the cat's name. Cat must be a real fan of pie.
We must be friends eh?!
Loved waking up to an update from you. Very cool to see how much you’ve adapted to improve the functionality and comfort. How cold is your average temperature throughout winter?
Thanks for the kind words! It gets very cold here, although this winter pretty mild. We regularly stay subzero, with periods dropping to -20 and -30f, with plenty of snow!
yurts have such a special feel! so happy you guys are able to live here long term! <3 love from toronto
Thank you so much!
Beautiful!❤
Thank you!
Yall rock. Awesome stuff.
Thanks for the support!
We're grateful for your powerful meditation about true home and deep friendship. You help bring necessary peace to our planet. Thank you.
Beautiful words 🙏🏼 Thank you!
Restores were great in 2017 or years past...now 2023/24 you might as well just go to Home Depot or Lowes.
Did you purchase the stove flashing through the company you bought the yurt from? Or was that included?
Pacific yurts sells the flashing that is made specifically to attach to the lattice
Nice to see a video from you. How are you doing in the current cold?
Hey Sue! We’re doing great. Outside temp this morning was -15f but we are nice and cozy in the yurt! We’re enjoying some more inside time and projects.
Love what you guys are doing…! Wish you could put out more videos…! Great job…MN is tough country…so proud of what your doing..!✨🙏✨💪✨
Thanks Sharlette! I wish we could get more videos out too! Thanks for the support
How did y’all ask the back? What terms did y’all use?
We got a land loan, 10% down, standard interest, and a 15 year mortgage.
Omg, please tell me what counties permit this! 🙏
Some do, some don’t. The more rural the better chance!
How big is this lad?
20ft in diameter mate
I really love the calm and thoughtful way of sharing your life here on youtube! Thanks so much for putting yourselves out there with your authentic way of living close to mother earth! <3
Thanks for such a personal and lovely comment!
