    When I was in basic training, our drill sergeant made us buy shirt tail garters for our dress uniforms. Everyone I've ever served with in the military used them and I've never thought much about it. I just thought that's what everyone did with dress clothes, but it seems to be more of a military thing. I still use them and they work great.

    Shirt stays are the best. Whenever I go to a wedding I wear them. Whenever I want to look extra good I wear them. Ya they feel odd at first but you get used to them so fast. You will look so good with these. I'm sure I started wearing these from Brock's suggestion back in 2014-18.

    What you told at the end is the perfect solution for anyone who feels uncomfortable with shirt stays, buy longer shirts and tuck it just a little bit and make a big crease so that it shadows your belt this way you'll look clean/have more casual look in formals and will remain at place if you somehow lift you hands.

    Hearing you say it’s "not that serious" was a really helpful reminder for me. I was nitpicky about the length of my pants for whatever shoe I was wearing. It bothered me even when I was taking something as small as a 20 minute walk. …Now that I think about it, I don’t see much people during those walks anyways. 😂
    This video was a good reminder that as long as I put in effort with what I have, my outfit doesn’t have to be completely perfect.

    I came here searching for a nice clean tucked fit as a woman. I definitely need to look into the solution both the garter and the sock. I wear trousers and skirts and love to tuck in my blouse or tops. Thank you for the honesty.

    I have two shirt stays gadgets that I use: One that connects to my socks and another one that just wraps around my thighs. Both work great, while the latter is great for the rare occasions where I wear shorts. Nothing else before has worked for me, but shirt stays are great.

    Real simple answer: wear high-rise trousers + shirts that are (1) comfortable in chest and waist with (2) a higher armhole.

    The shirt stays I wear are individual bands, instead of the "Y" style. The front tails attach to the outside of my socks, and the back tails attach to the inside. I've found the rubber button doesn't always stay on my socks, so I use small coins (like pennies or dimes) to keep the lower ends attached. The best part about them is that all one needs to do to "re-tuck" the shirt, is to give the waistband of the trousers a little shimmy!

    I'm a swing dancer and I always use NV Holders. It does help that the trousers tend to have higher waists.

    Great informative video! I would like to add one thing: if a shirt has armholes that match your arm size, it will stay tucked in and be more comfortable.

  • @danielhakimi
    @danielhakimi 2 місяці тому

    Shirts that fit better are the best solution. Not only a relaxed fit, but also a good fit around the arm and armpit, and a good bit of give around the waitsband so that, even if you do pull a bit of fabric when you move your arm, the body has enough give *somewhere* that the tension doesn't pull on your shirt at the waistband at all.
    If you want to know how relaxed is too relaxed... go watch North by Northwest, and then follow your heart.

    When using shirt stays with over-the-calf socks, I just fold the socks over by a few inches and it works out great. Also, I had a shoe/leather repair shop shorten my shirt stays since I’m on the short side.

    I switched from full length socks to shirt stays over to thigh to shirt. Results are pretty good.
    NGL both are a pain if you need to go on business travel in terms of airport security. I tend to take them off before security and whack 'em back on afterwards.

    Been using the exact amazon leg garters that were flashed on screen (around the thighs) for over 10 years now, same pair even, and they are phenomenal. I actually like them better than the sock versions because they tend to be more flattering and more comfortable while sitting down (think bend at knee). Also, the thigh versions are more tight to your body, so they are never noticeable visually, whereas the sock variants I've had comments on from people wondering what the big line down my leg was (definitely depends on specific pant cut and material). Either way though, they are both 10x better than not wearing them, and you can leave the house confident that your shirt will be tucked in and flattering all day!
    Edit: I should add that they also will take a few wears to get used to, and to figure out exactly where on your shirt you should clip them for the most flattering fit. But persevere, and it'll be well worth the effort.

    As a veteran, a full-length garter works great, however. The mid-length garters work for all situations. Depending on what you are wearing, full-length garters can be noticeable through the pants. Also, half-length.... can’t believe I'm saying this... I agree much easier if you have to use the restroom

  • @teekue

    Forgot one option: get shirts with smaller armholes. See where the shirt pulls up? That is because the armholes are very large. If they are smaller the arms can move more without pulling up the whole shirt.

    • @BrockMcGoff
      @BrockMcGoff  3 місяці тому

      That’s true! But you can only go so small before it gets uncomfortable. In general though, I agree.

    Great video as always Brock! I used to wear garters for the longest time. If you can get your shirts tailored with a slightly higher arm hole then the shirt untuck issue is greatly minimized. Thoughts?

  • @SamarthAgrawal-nk9tk
    @SamarthAgrawal-nk9tk 2 місяці тому

    This problem has something to do with the sleeve width (the arm hole to be precise) also because in ready made shirts they have bigger arm holes to accommodate more sizes in their size range. Since I have known this and started getting shirts with measurements good enough for me, I have tackled this issue better.
