The most important aspect of dressing well is fit. If your clothes don’t fit, nothing else matters. The second most important aspect of style is color. The wrong colors or color combinations will detract from an overall outfit, even if the individual pieces fit properly.
Color can be confusing. There are so many colors to choose from, and there are infinite ways to combine them. In this video, I’ll share 10 color combos that work for any body type and skin tone. No doubt you’re already wearing some of these combos. But I’m sure you’ll discover a few new ideas in this video.
Oh, and there’s one popular “color combo” that’s NOT on this list, and that’s highly overrated IMO. If you can guess what it is, let me know in the comments…or watch to the end to find out.

Wow! My use of “honey, do these go together “ is about to drastically decrease. Thanks for the advice.
I wear those color combinations, so I think when it comes to dressing, up I'm on the right track. Since I discovered Brock's channel, I'm able to experiment more with how I dress up. Thanks Brock!
As a color blind adult man, I appreciate this video.
I know the feeling. My son (now 5) has been helping me with colours since he was 3 years old 🙂
Olive and Grey is one of the most underrated combos out there
Tan & Gray is underrated. The easiest color combo for casual outfits.
That's my go-to combo, it never looks wrong, i'm about to go somewhere and immediately thought of this combo.
(Probably the best combo, above most of the combos in this video)
If you're older & been in the Sun you don't need the clothes to match.
This is high quality straight to the point material .!! Thanks Brock, you’re the #1 menswear and lifestyle UA-camr hands down.!!!!!
Thank you, sir 🙏
Love that we are getting more videos. I get that you won't be posting all the time but love that its more consistent.
Prof. Brock... quality content as always ❤️...thank you very much for this detailed colour comb video🙏
My go to combinations are blue/grey, and green/grey. Thanks a lot for all the other ideas!
Thank you for your amazing video! Now I can know how to have right colour combinations to become more confident
Coincidentally, yesterday I was wearing a burgundy turtleneck, beige chinos, a grayish/brownish tweed jacket, and burgundy boots. I wholeheartedly agree that burgundy can look great with earth tones.
One combination that you didn't mention: burgundy with green … especially for darker or less saturated versions of both colors.
Wow! Amazing video, I can tell you put a lot of effort into this, great job as always Brock!
YES! Needed this video right now with all the Black Friday sales going on. LOVE THIS Brock. Thanks again for the amazing content!
Great video! Love the topic of this video, and I'm definitely interested in the sponsor's bag; really nice.
Thank you so much! I'm brand new here and have only seen two videos. You've been spot on with both and I'm excited to see the others. Thirty minutes with those two videos have taught me more than months of random searching on the internet from sometimes questionable websites. For years I've been combining my 37 son's preferences with my own sense of style and color combinations to create an age appropriate, versatile wardrobe so he'll look well dressed. I'm relieved to know that I'm getting it right for the most part. (In case you or anyone else is wondering, my son is developmentally delayed and can't do this himself.)
Great video! Keep up the good work!
This is awesome content. Perfect color combination. Great video. Keep sharing more!
Brock, I think you have some of the best color advice for menswear. It might be interesting to make a follow-up video about the "loud" colors in clothes (ex: Kelly Green, Cobalt Blue, Lemon Yellow, Primary Red) - what makes them difficult to work with, why they work best as accessories/accents rather than base layers, and qualified examples of situations in which they actually can be used (ex: so you have those bright red sneakers . . . what actually can you wear with them other than black casual clothes?)
Yea I definitely would want to see this too.
Would love this too!
Sounds like a great video idea, though that being said you can pair yellow with navy, grey, black and olive green, but in terms of actual clothing I'd say yellow should really be limited to polo shirts/ t shirts. They'd be great for summer wear.
Love the voiceover on top of the looks format! Great to see the combinations applied to outfits.
One combo I think is tougher to pull off, but that I’ve experimented with, is green and purple. It’s very wimblendon or polo ralph lauren i feel 😅, but can look fantastic if the tones are right. I think it suits darker skin better if the tones are bold, and lighter if the tones are muted. This goes for most colors, really.
Weird comment but your voice is so calm and measured. If you sat down with world leaders you could achieve world peace with such a voice. I can't imagine you ever being angry or upset!
You know, Brock, that might just work. "Israel, Palestine - let's all just forget about our differences and try wearing blue and burnt orange, ok?"
Gr8 work done Brock❤
Nice and easy to understand explanation. Highly recommended. Thanks
Brock, great video!!! Like always!!
Appreciate it!
Great video Brock!
I have watched your videos for years. This one is particularly great! Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Been following you for almost 10 years now Brock, and you're still putting out quality stuff! I gotta experiment with purple more. It's my favorite color, but I don't actually own any clothes in purple.
Great video Brock. Whilst I like wearing both black and white, as a blond blue eyed man they never look good when worn together in an outfit for me due to my low contrast features. To add another combo into the mix - tan and lavender also works excellently
My favorite color combo is probably pastel yellow or burnt orange mixed with blue, the warm tones of the first 2 just look great with a cooler shade like blue. I think for me its something to do with yellow/orange being like the sun and then blue is like the sky or ocean so those combos always appeal to me visually.
Great video as always. Learned a lot !
Glad to hear it!
I think this guy is a graphic designer, he plays with color exceptionally well! What an inspiration 👏 will definitely help me pull off better outfits.
This is my favorite men's style youtuber because we are of the same height and size.
Great job!
Love this 👌
Wow, you outdone yourself. Excellent video. Keep it up
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this video! Very informative!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks For A Great Guide!
Very welcome!
I've recently found that burgundy/red and grey/charcoal work really well togther then mixed with either blue or navy. So in terms of outfits, you could have a burgundy top and you can pair that with grey chinos/jeans and they'd work nicely. Then having a grey cardigan/hoodie with a red/burgundy henley/t-shirt underneath with black/navy chinos/jeans.
Plus with regards to the colour green, I'm glad that it's getting the recognition it deserves, it's a super underrated colour in men's clothing and one of my recent favourites to wear. You can pretty much wear olive green for everything, it's pretty much as versatile as grey, black and navy. Coats, jackets, chinos, shirts, t-shirts, polos, jumpers and hoodies all in an olive green shade look amazing. Then a dark hunter/bottle green looks really good on shirts, polos, t-shirts, jumpers, coats and jackets.
Nice job with this...working with a more subtle color palette.
Nice video. I used dark brown dress boots and olive pants paired with a lavender shirt, maroon knit tie and brown leather bomber. Worked well for me. Saw it on a Looktastic photo and went with it. Bye the way, Looktastic is a great source for wearing and pairing suggestions.
I think navy and khaki/tan/beige color almost goes with everything. Khaki pants are my favorite and most versatile piece of clothing.
Great lookbook, and I appreciate your suggestions. I'll try getting a maroon polo to go with my tobacco chinos. Also, love your Tupelo jacket.
Good eye!
Thanks for advice.
Thanks Big Brother
A helpful suggestion I saw on another UA-camr's channel (Devon On Deck, maybe?) is to look at pro sports uniforms/logos for color combo suggestions for your wardrobes.
Man you are an expect when it comes to color combination, I always like you videos
I appreciate that!
Talk more about black. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on what does/ doesn't work well with black.
I personally do a lot of B+W since I have pretty high-contrast features.
Huge brown & off beige fan! 🔥🔥🔥
I agree about red and black. My college (University of Cincinnati) and high school (Shawnee in Lima, Ohio) colors are red and black. I often wear the color combination for sporting events, Homecoming, class reunions, etc. I rarely wear red and black otherwise and I think you nailed why.
I went to University of Cincinnati too!
Ivory Chinos are another excellent option if you don't want to wear full White. Very informative as always Brock keep up the good work!
Very true!
Awesome Outfit 💯👍
Hi Brock, hope you can do a video on Suede Jackets, like suede bomber jacket's versatility and wearability almost all year and the best colour to get to get the most out of the purchase? And a suede vs grain leather jackets. Which one to get. Hope you consider my suggestion/request. Many thanks!
This is so clutch
Could you do a video on how to use and combine texture in menswear? Another solid video as always.
Great suggestion!
You should consider dropping videos weekly, Thank you
I’ll increase the frequency at some point. Right now most of my working time is spent on themodestman.com and theslenderwrist.com.
I understand and I love what you have done with your site, I wish to meet you in person someday.
What about Blue/Navy Blue and White as a color combo? White sneakers with navy blue chinos and a white tshirt ?
Hey Brock, another great video, man. @ 3:48, What is the jacket you're wearing, and where's it from?; I love it.
the inclusions of representation in this video are so thoughtful, unlike many fashion videos out there :)
Tan chinos w/burgundy top is a combo I love but never see anybody wearing, the only time I ever see people wearing the colour it's some zip up hoodie with white trim that every man under 30 seems to own three of for some reason. Got a nice 'Rivera' polo in their 'vino' colour from Sunspel that is just awesome for this!
I know you show it as paired with dark brown leather sneakers, but if you aren't wearing it with that very dark navy harrington, then I'd lighten it up a bit and go with a slightly lighter chino and light tan pair of sneakers. Stays away from the ubiquitous white sneakers and still has a similar light and casual effect. Superga does a 'taupe' colour 2750 that nails the casual aspect IMO. Great for those warm days out with some mates and you'll never be wearing similar colours to the other people there!
Very informative, can you shed a light on what goes with darker skin tone. Thanks
A basic rule of thumb is: darker skin tones can pull off brighter and more saturated colors. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wear pale, unsaturated or faded colors too. You can sort of wear both, while guys with fair complexions should (usually) stay away from brighter hues.
Please, please could you tell me where you got that tan overshirt you're wearing. It looks amazing, and the overshirt link in the description just isnt the same.
Any advice on combining Turtleneck with Shirt
What are your thoughts about all black? Nice pair of G-Star 3D jeans and a black T?
In your section talking about blue + blue, are those Nudie Jeans Lean Dean or the Thinn Finn? They look great on you!
Lean Dean. Good eye!
Hey Brock, I have cooler undertones but dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Should I lean more towards wearing cooler colors, or warmer colors? Thanks in advance!
Navy and pink
You look so much like Mike Diamond from the Beastie Boys, it's insane.
mustard and maroon
Black and brown
Good addition!
black and white?
I guessed right
What jacket are you wearing?
How about black on black?
Pink & Black/ Pink & Navy Blue. They are my go to. Also Red (Not too bright) and Olive Green because well Olives are my favorite vegetable so why not wear that color combination hahahah!!!!😂😂😂
Print shirts??? the colours are kinda muted. any suggestions for bright colours
I know this is quite an old video, but i was wondering how olive and burgundy/maroon would match? Specifically thinking about olive chinos with a burgundy aran knit sweater with a white t underneath
The problem with red and green is it’s hard to not look holiday-ish (Christmasy). It technically works, but the association is strong.
thank you for ending with saying that black doesn't go with everything, because it doesn't! drives me nuts when people say it does
Us enlightened ones must stick together 🤝
10:38 That's a nice outfit.
How about red?
Brock what abut this advices than when we put some dark pants the top should be in lighter colour. (like dark grey pants , light blue shirt). Its not good too match clothes in the same shade . Like dark grey pants wit dark blue shirt or light hrey pants with light blue shirt? Do we always have this contrast?
You don’t need a lot of contrast between top and bottom.
Grey and pink looks good too
I agree. Gray and pink was a popular color combination back in the 1950’s. Maybe not so much in men’s fashion but popular in home decor and automobiles.
Hello Brock, what do you think color combo black and brown? 🤔
It's not the easiest one to pull off, but it can look really sharp (done correctly).
@@BrockMcGoff thqnks Brock for replying.....I was think of all black with dark brown leather boots (laced up boots from thursday boots 🙂 ....the sequoias from the "Major" line to be exact).
If you really want to be mistaken as the Vallet at a formal venue…wear a burgundy suit jacket. 😂
how about black and dark brown?
I wouldn't call it an easy combo, but it can definitely work. It's kind of like blue and black: tricky to pull off, but really nice when done well.
Sir i have burgundy 3 piece suit. I want to wear it with turtleneck so which colour will best for a party, brown/beige/khaki/tan?
I’d go with black 👍🏻
Thought it was an all black 😂
Some colour combinations are great. Others are meh.
Greys and blues should be the primary colours of the wardrobe. To complement, browns and greens such as olive are great. White/off white shirts are a must.
Black is a colour I generally stay away from. And pairing black with other dark colours (besides grey) isn't smth I would prefer to wear.
You didn t include even black and blue, right?
can I pull off a BLACK PANTS plus black SHIRT and BLACK JACKET?? I am asian by the way and and brown skin color....thank you and more power to this channel
You *can* wear all black. It’s not my favorite palette.
I am guessing white and black as the overrated one?
Correct!
White and black aren't the best combo I agree. Makes you look like you just got out of your office job, no matter how sharp you look. I would say, I've been pulling off that olive green and black combo, with black leather belt and boots, and a brown messenger bag from Cravar. Fucking awesome look if you ask me. Got complimented recently about it. Also, we're not the same style, I'm more rugged and rock 'n' roll than dapper, but these colors are universal. Can't really go wrong with them
Great video btw, will help a lot of dudes for sure
i never wear these colors together. black + white - waiter/hostess. red + khaki or black, heck red in general - 🎯 or holiday. olive/khaki - cabela/dad. french blue/khaki - cliche tired 90s office. love this vid
The leather jacket in the 4th pic of the thumbnail looks really nice, what brand is it?
It’s actually a nylon material from Banana Republic’s “core temp” line.
Hey Brock, what are your thoughts on all black clothing? I notice you typically opt for darker shades of colors (dark blue, dark brown) rather than black. Can you provide reasoning behind this?
It's mostly personal preference. I think black works well in a monochromatic wardrobe (lots of black/white/grey), but it isn't the best palette for fair skin low contrast guys like myself. Black isn't easy to combine with blues/browns/earth tones, so I tend to avoid it.
@@BrockMcGoff interesting. You mentioned you were low contrast, but your dark hair and light skin makes me think you’re more high contrast. What makes you say that you’re low contrast?
Also, I’ve noticed you tend to be more americana style rather than streetwear as you also mentioned in one of your videos. I’m guessing this is another reason you prefer dark blues over black.
Dark wash jeans vs black is such a tossup to me because they are so similar, but both seem to look better in certain circumstances. Struggling to find what would allow more flexibility with a basic, minimal wardrobe.
@@samuelw1234 medium brown hair + light skin (but not super fair) = low or maybe medium contrast. Definitely not high contrast, though. That's someone like Kit Harrington (black hair, fair skin). And yeah, I'm not really into streetwear. Like I said, though, most of this is just preference. Don't overthink it!
@@BrockMcGoff makes sense. Thank you!
You are so handsome men.
Love from Pakistan.
What? Black and white is a classic and chic.I do think it's not for very pale people because of it's high contrast and over powers the person.
I'm not a fan of a green & pink combo
What are the shorts worn at 6:07?
I believe lululemon Commission shorts!
Brock, I'm surprised that you wear light colored shoes with dark pants. Don't you think that can make a guy look shorter than dark shoes with dark pants?
Hang on, what about ‘blue and green, never to be seen!?’
It's like "no brown in town" and "white after labor day"...outdated!
lets not forget them shoes....
I agree, black is over rated, kind of predictable and boring ... I like to use charcoal in its place.
Yeah, charcoal > black for sure!
Is that the Tan Rogue Provisions Waxed Jacket, and if so, what size is the one you're wearing?
It’s actually from Billy Reid!
I'm not a man, but sometimes when I play Sims, I mismatch people's clothes on purpose. That's why I clicked on this video!
