Hi, just finished watching your video. In Hindu culture, anything that's been used in worship rituals(poojas) of god cannot be thrown away in trash, it must always be submerged in a body of water. It seems that those rags and beetle nuts were used in poojas and later submerged in water. Maybe they were submerged together with the Ganesh idol after Ganesh festival.

Hi Jeremy. Merry Post Christmas. I'm reading a few comments from people of the Hindu Faith. They're saying the red cloth is a garment worn in rituals, & the enclosed items are things used in those rituals. They cannot be tossed in the trash. Only submerged in water. So those are someone's important ritual items. Interesting, isn't it?

Hinduism practices, include throwing wooden statues of their Gods and Goddesses, that they are making a prayer to. Into a river with their sacrifice to the Deity for their prayer to work. Now a days it is common to sacrifice jars sealed with coin money. Throwing them into the river, after you throw in the statues, and have prayed.

First of all it will never have anything valuable in it.

Hindu persons make offerings to rivers because it gives them food and prosperity. Common items are a bread of sorts, salt, prayer flags, coconut shells and money. There is another offering involving divorce or when spouse is caught being adulteress. Not sure on details but when I find out I will let you know.

The rags in the pouch you found were most likely used to decorate or clean the spot where we keep our Hindu god statues, like Ganesh and more, for daily prayers...
Apparently its considered a bad omen/inauspicious to throw out anything related to god in the trash (i.e, statues, rags, photos, books, and even rice, grains and the betel nuts you found, and other things too). They should only be submerged into rivers, preferably a holy river.
I don't know too much about it even though I'm Hindu, but then again I'm not that religious... This is something I remember my mom telling me as kid.
If you happen to find a brass pot/urn wrapped in the same type of red cloth as this pouch, you might want to put it back. Those would be ashes...

In south india, esp in kerala, it's a ritual ( a pooja) to exorcise bad energy that cause troubles and obstacles in one's life. The sandalwood ganesh idol and a few coins/ silver, pooja things etc arev tied in red silk and thrown in water without looking back. Nobody is supposed to untie or take those things back since it's considered inauspicuous. Since outside communities don't believe in such things, no harm done here!

Ohh so I am not the only one who has picking up stuff from ground habit . Well this is underwater ground 🤣.
I knew what would be in that red cloth . That's all the fabric probably used in worshiping and covering God .So some super smart human just dumped it 😤 so irresponsible..only if he knew what worshipping really means

Why didn't you pickup the blue and white bowl? It could be worth money if it has occupied Japan on it.

The red bag seems like the remnant of a puja (worship or offering) that Hindus do. The clothes might be of someone deceased. You should have let that be. Who knows what those guys were praying for when they made that offering

I hear you on getting someplace cold. Reminded me when I worked for the phone company driving a supply truck around the state. I was barely 26, single mom of an 8 month old baby. Was home every night though. Once I got home, got out of my work boots, got into some comfy clothes. Fed my son, got in his bath, and got mine too. I'd put him in his bed and I'd fall into mine. All at the same time, relishing the cold dark apartment, and do it all over again. I loved stepping into my apartment and the cold air from my a/c greeting me at the door. I often ponder, how did I live without a/c in the years prior?
