  • Hey, I was curious which missiles are effective against larger enemy ships. So, I had a look at each of them and want to share how each performes.

Straightforward video. Clear, to the point, comprehensive. Like a breath of fresh air on YT. Well done.

I've always just gone for the heavy dumbfire mk2 missiles and never considered the miss rate compared to the light version. This video was very informative and has given me much to consider. Thanks Immi.

What surprised me was the performance of some of the tracking missiles. Especially how few of them I needed to take down the K.

I have two death stars in my fleet. Those Raptor carrier are ships armed with many heavy dumbfire mk2 missiles, , the will destroy anything, i happen to have a monitor and small fleet of traders to resupply missiles. Lots of fun clearing sectors with it. Thank you for the information and analysis.

How do you get the auxilary ship to actually do its job?
I tried to make a missile destroyer fleet some time ago with an Honsu auxilary and 4 Baldrics trading for that Honshu. However, those Baldrics constantly fail their trade orders and then just idle in space forcing me to use the auxilary ship itself to get the warers which kind of defeats the purpose.
Even after I get the auxilary to get wares and join up with the fleet it is supposed to be supplying, it doesn't automatically supply missiles to anything. I have the right blueprints and restock global orders but it still seems to completely ignore resupplying missiles.
Of couse I could do all this manually but that just gets so tedious I'd rather not use missiles at all.

@@astornautti2166 it's manual intensive to resupply everything, but usually I only do a small amount to end some conquest before I send my ships to a specific shipyard with a specific request for missile components supply (at least a million) this way I can afford to have huge quantities of missiles available between big battles

This Video is a Godsend! I lost a good fleet not knowing that the out-of-sector performance of dumbfire's was crap. I watched/helped them take down a K and H in sector with no problem... I figured 1 K would be nothing and I'd just watch on the map... and I did watch.. as they died. Ouch! I was debating buying those Argon plasma cannons everyone talks about, but thanks to you I now know that Heavy Smart Missiles are the way to go- and my Terran Supremacy campaign can continue. Terra Invicta! XD

Did the updates to pilot AI help with the flying past the Xenon K issue you mentioned with the Heavy Scatter Missiles?

In each of my carrier fleets, I run 2 wings of 8 fighter bombers running 2 tracking launchers loaded with heavy clusters. They compensate for the range issue, and with the right support, they are devastating to enemy cap ships and station weapons.

Sure.... why have an encyclopedia in game, if you can put all the actual useful information on a Website 😐

Did you test heavy heat seeking missile in low attention mode? It has on paper more range and dps than smart while I don’t think countermeasures are taken into account during low attention mode which makes it potentially the best missile choice for low attention station defense turrets. I bring it up because I want to play boron defense and they have absurd amounts of M slots.

Damn I miss M7M from X3 where you could park one with a full cargo of torpedoes and obliterate everything in the sector.
I miss the old weapons system overall, i guess. X4 has a really underwhelming weapons selection.

yea i recently played some x3:ap XRM mod again just for funsies and was blown away by weapon variety and the scripted use of bomber wings or god forbid a M7M.
losing countless fighters due to them crashing into stuff and me getting a game overscreen after crashing into a m7 in a dogfight with my m6 got me back into x4 real quick tho XD

There were always the players that were pure.... you need to doghfight, they said! And Egosoft has listened to them. In x3 the missiles were amazing but to use them with an M7m, you needed to have a lot of factories. I loved to have a nice Cobra.... and the infrastructure needed to keep it in combat. Now I have tried. I think that makes no sense to use missiles. It silly. But it is cheaper to print ships with lasers that to keep a missiles fleet.

heavy cluster missiles are cracked and are for blowing xenon defense platform clusters with 1 or 2 missiles.
but ur right they aren't good for use against moving targets, but thats cuz they are anti station.. That being said, sense the game has physics you can charge at an enemy destroyer and line up your shot while boosting with a corvette or fighter, and then fire your missiles, they will go (your speed + the 57m/s they normally go).
while not intended for use against moving targets they can still be used as a heavy hitting skill weapon vs large moving targets.
