I think it's just that progressive rock is a narrow field not for everyone, too complex. Supertramp sure has its hardcore fan group and has sold in the range of 75 million albums. Their records have been on rotation in my place for forty years.
Crime of the Century featured some very innovative percussion sounds. Used to listen to this album almost daily back in Junior High School. And yes. The whole album is awesome.
Wait till you hear "Rudy" from this album. A masterpiece of composition, musicianship, storytelling, and production. The seamless mixture of various musical instruments and styles in one track is amazing. Thanks guys. I enjoy your reactions.
First discovered *Supertramp* unintentionally. Expecting *Ted Nugent* in a 10,000 seat concert arena, but I was *one of only twelve* that bought tickets to their *"Even In the Quietest Moments"* tour. Most professional band - performed full setlist, plus encored us with unreleased songs from *"Breakfast in America"* album. Live Concert or Studio Recording - sound quality equally the same, very rare!
Supertramp existed on the fringes of progressive rock in their early years. Discarding their 1st 2 albums, their next 3 - Crime of the Century, Crisis? What Crisis? and Even in the Quietest Moments are staples for FM classic rock. Growing up in Montreal, one of the first places to embrace them after the release of Crime of the Century, they are rock royalty here. Breakfast in America may be their most commercially successful album, but it was also somewhat of a departure from their earlier work in an attempt to break into the American market. Not to put down that album or the few that followed, but, it is a different vibe and certainly a different band following the departure of Roger Hodgson. In my opinion, Crime of the Century is in the conversation for greatest rock albums of all time.
Goodbye Stranger is my favorite, but lyrically please also react to the “Logical song”. I think you’ll enjoy both. Supertramp is an amazing band with many hits and the songs are different because they had two totally different writers. Also these albums had top tier producers. Also there is a great 1978 concert in Paris if you want to see live. Goodbye Stranger from that concert is amazing.
Trudat! That "video game sound" that Che picked up on definitely, LITERALLY coems in at the end of Logical. Can't recall the game, but I remember playing it on a handheld device in like sixth grade when the song hit, lol.
Supertramp are a fantastically talented group. All their tracks are pure gold. They are just as good live, they don’t miss a trick. A very underrated British group!
Play the Even in the Quietest Moments album start to finish. You probably don’t know the first thing about it, so it’s perfect. And the album is pretty much perfect, too.
If you guys do a full album reaction then this should be it. Hide in Your Shell is buried amongst these other great songs and is rarely reacted to. I think it is easily one of the best songs ever written by anyone, not just Supertramp. This album still gets regular play almost 50 years later, masterpiece.
I have said this before but it bears repeating..... The 1970s AM and FM radio airwaves were FULL...so full of amazing music! Mainstream radio spoiled us! We could hardly change the channel without finding a GREAT song! His vocals starting at about 3:15 are so expressive, so emotionally beautiful. I can't get enough of that
Lead vocals on "Dreamer" are handled by Roger Hodgson; their lead guitarist. The other lead vocalist is Rick Davies. He sings lead on two songs I think you will both enjoy. "Goodbye Stranger" and "Rudy" are treats musically!
Supertramp was a great band with so many great songs. To those of us that were there we just considered them a rock band. I never heard these bands labeled progressive until a couple years ago. We just considered them rock bands. Some favorites: Crime of the Century, Give a Little Bit, Rudy and From Now On but many more. BTW the album on your display is one of the greatest records ever. RIP Marvin..
Love, love, love that you guys are getting into Supertramp. They are an amazing band that I had the fortune to see live 16 times. I hope you do School or Hide In Your Shell next from the Crime of the Century album. They have basically two lead singers, Rick and Roger with Roger singing on most of their big hits. I appreciate their deep cuts more than most of the hits but you can't go wrong with any Supertramp.
So good to see you reacting to all these great band that I grew up with in the 70's and 80's. And Supertramp was one of them. Of course I bought this album and it's great. You'll never get tired of these great songs. And it is great to watch again with someone that have not heard them before. It's just like presenting them for a good friend when the album came out.
I'll say it again, guys, you really need to dip into "Even In The Quietest Moments". "Breakfast in America"outsold it, but for my money that's their best album, strongest melodically. *Such* a good band!
Supertramp are a kind of soft progressive pop band. School from this album is one of my favourite songs of theirs. Although quite short, it has the same progressive element that you picked up here.
This one is poppy progressive I'd say. Bloody catchy. I recall being instantly impressed on first hearing it, even on AM radio. (If I could see something.....) Very talented group. I still really like this.
Yeah dudes I am so glad you had a good time with Supertramp because there is a lot more. Especially, for me, "School" and Take the Long Way Home" are incredible songs that you will also love. Thanks for the great channel. Ya'll are the best ones.
The Logical Song is also amazing. Breakfast in America is a great album, as well as others. Supertramp is worth a deep dive. Rodger Hodgeson still performs.
Great to see u guys bangin’ with Supertramp. They’re progressive pop. ST, back in the mid to late 70’s @PSU, was one of main musical food groups! Crime of the Century, Breakfast in America and Even in the Quietest Moments are among my fave albums of all time! If you blended Floyd & one of the pop greats, like Elton… you get Supertramp!
Excellent review, as always.. Saw them live at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo just after Crime of the Century came out.Powerful sound. You still haven't gotten to my to personal favorites, School and Rudy. You will truly enjoy..
Shame, but not a surprise. TRARHOF is about as bad a joke as you could imagine. As Eddie Trunk once pointed out, for a while Madonna was in it but Deep Purple wasn't...
Supertramp sort of perfectly bridged the gap between pop and progressive rock. Progressive pop! And as good as this studio track is, it's even better live. They put out a double album live set called Paris - I'd recommend checking out that version of this song, too.
I was trying to come up with how to describe what I think their sound is and I see you have done it perfectly- between pop and progressive rock….progressive pop! And yes they are good live I saw them couple times in the eighties.
Lord luvs ducks you guys. Momma gonna tell you😂Supertramp Crime of the Century!!! This is only one cut from one of the most iconic albums of all time. Every single flippin song is just timeless. My Garden luvs is cranked.😂😂 Please boys grace your ears to this masterpiece. The next song is Rudy...ohhh see how the cuts flow its magical. Cheers
I consider Supertramp's early albums to be somewhat progressive but their later albums were more pop and commercial and earned them a lot of well-deserved income. Crime of the Century is a fantastic album and I spent a lot of times rolling on the floor with headphones on when this came out.
I remember the first time I heard this. Just about to leave the house as a teenager it came on the radio. It stopped me in my tracks and I turned around and listened to the whole thing. I bought it that day. The B side was a good too. Made me head into old Jazz because I loved the sound of it, in the way Led Zeppelin had me getting into old Blues because I loved that too. Love the appreciation of the old tunes I came up with. Musical soundscapes have always been a joy to explore. Be well guys, and have fun.
Hello, Supertramp are an amazing band ,I think you are correct they are progresive, at least i have always thoght so . also the production on tracks like... Rudy, Crime of the century, Cannonball, Asylum. i could go on. a very special band i am so glad you have discovered them . all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
Seeing Supertramp live is such fun! 😊 I hafta tell you, I bought a tank t-shirt at one of their shows that simply said "Supertramp" on the 1 pocket -- I would get the strangest looks from the people that didn't know it was a rock band!! So freakin funny!! 🤣🤣🤣
There was so much good music back then. I nearly forgot about this song. Now, I remember hearing it often. I think my friend bought this album, turned me on, and then I got Breakfast in America. Alas, my vinyl is collecting dust in the closet anymore. Thanks for the reaction.
Great song, great reaction. If you want three, maybe four melodies in a Supertramp record, try Goodbye Stranger. It's my favorite Supertramp record, and one of my favorites, period.
Now try “Goodbye Stranger”
PLEASE do “Goodbye Stranger”!! ❤
And “School”
One of the best songs of all time!!!
Great song
Yes, please!
One of the most criminally underrated bands of all time. Supertramp is awesome!!
"Give a Little Bit" is purity in its finest form.
Maybe not underrated as much as under appreciated & overlooked at times. They are absolutely awesome!
I think it's just that progressive rock is a narrow field not for everyone, too complex. Supertramp sure has its hardcore fan group and has sold in the range of 75 million albums. Their records have been on rotation in my place for forty years.
You need to hang out with better people if your friends are underrating Supertramp. They're universally regarded as one of the greats from their era.
great great reaction, My feeling exactly when i heard it almost 50 years ago!!
Saw them live twice back in the 70's. Awesome! Still play their tunes sometimes.....loud and love it! ❤
Bloody well right another great song
Crime of the Century featured some very innovative percussion sounds. Used to listen to this album almost daily back in Junior High School. And yes. The whole album is awesome.
They took the next progression of music and really expanded it!
FROM NOW ON. , Supertramp Deep cut that is epic...give it a shot.
Love that you are reacting to Supertramp! Great stuff...
"School" is an absolute must listen. The tickling of the ivory on this track is stupendous.
Supertramp is part of the Prog Rock era. Their catalog is right up there with all the Progressive bands.
I remember buying this single. Great song.
Favourite Album, ‘Breakfast In America’.
So many fab’ songs on it.
🎶❤️🎶
Wait till you hear "Rudy" from this album. A masterpiece of composition, musicianship, storytelling, and production. The seamless mixture of various musical instruments and styles in one track is amazing. Thanks guys. I enjoy your reactions.
Yes. Supertramp is a progressive rock band.
Loved it ! Can't wait until you guys get around to Supertramp's "School!" This was the song that made me a fan for life.
Supertramp is a brilliant band with a fantastic catalog and they are just as impressive live (if not more)!!!👍👍👌👌✌✌😃😃
Explore MORE Supertramp. They were unique. 🎶
Stellar.the whole album has pristine production.
“Goodbye Stranger”, “Take the long way home”, “Logical Song” all bangers
This record "crime of the century" is great as a whole it has a story
Great reaction! My wife and I loved Supertramp back in the day. This brings back many memories!
Supertramp! Underrated. Unique. Solid musicianship!
They’ve got a bunch of good tunes. “Take The Long Way Home”, a must.
First discovered *Supertramp* unintentionally. Most professional band - performed full setlist, plus encored us with unreleased songs from *"Breakfast in America"* album. Supertramp were so unique, great writers, two great lead singers. Great artists!

One of the most creative bands ever!
School is the MONSTER opening song to the EPIC release Crime of the Century. One of the best produced LPs of rock history
This band showed up in like the late 70s early 80s & I was like 13 years old. Dudes. this band blew people's minds!!
Early 70s
La & Che! You must do "The Logical Song" by Supertramp next! You will not be disappointed, trust me on this! Love, Peace & Blessings my Brothers!!!
Entire album is amazing. Must listen and react

Yeah the title track is a monster
Hide In Your Shell is amazing.
@@neilmartin99 yes indeed
I think you’ll love Even in the Quietest Moments.
You can't go wrong with Supertramp. Virtually every one of their songs is a little masterpiece.
I can't get enough of that
Supertramp was so smart. And their instrumentation was top tier. My personal fav is Long Way Home, but there are so many great songs from them. 🙂
Lead vocals on "Dreamer" are handled by Roger Hodgson; their lead guitarist. The other lead vocalist is Rick Davies. He sings lead on two songs I think you will both enjoy. "Goodbye Stranger" and "Rudy" are treats musically!
They both sing on a lot of their songs, including this one.
“Take the Long Way” and “Give a little bit” by Supertramp🎸🥁😣💣
Supertramp was a great band with so many great songs. To those of us that were there we just considered them a rock band. I never heard these bands labeled progressive until a couple years ago. We just considered them rock bands. Some favorites: Crime of the Century, Give a Little Bit, Rudy and From Now On but many more. BTW the album on your display is one of the greatest records ever. Supertramp songs are always a sonic journey. This is a song that goes places.

One of the greatest bands ever. Can’t go wrong with anything they did. Try School 👍 Even in the Quietest Moments or Fools Overture 🥰
So good to see you reacting to all these great band that I grew up with in the 70's and 80's. And Supertramp was one of them. Of course I bought this album and it's great. You'll never get tired of these great songs.

Agree. That album could well be their peak with the title track, Fool's Overture, Give a Little Bit...
These guys were huge in the late 70s and early 80s until they broke up as band. Fools Overture is a must listen what a epic song it is .
Oh oh another 70s gem. Saw Supertramp 4 times and each show was top shelf. Loved the look on La's face 😮
Take the long way home is a must listen to by supertramp
Supertramp are a kind of soft progressive pop band. School from this album is one of my favourite songs of theirs. Although quite short, it has the same progressive element that you picked up here.

Take The Long Way Home, The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger are must hear songs by Supertramp
Yes, their album “Breakfast in America” is ranked the #3 prog rock album of all time.
I forgot how good this song was!
Reminds of when I was about 10 years old.
Thanks for reminding me guys. 😀
Yeah dudes I am so glad you had a good time with Supertramp because there is a lot more. Especially, for me, "School" and Take the Long Way Home" are incredible songs that you will also love. Thanks for the great channel. Ya'll are the best ones.
Asylum from this album is a great song. Of course it's a great album, you can't go wrong with it
So much SUPERTRAMP!!!! Keep workin it, they are so AWESOME!!!!
The Logical Song is also amazing. Breakfast in America is a great album, as well as others. Supertramp is worth a deep dive. Rodger Hodgeson still performs.
I saw someone say that Supertramp is the baby between Pink Floyd and Steely Dan…kinda fits huh?
Yeah! Love this album! Meanwhile vocals in soprano range….and those 🎹 keys n harmony…..yummy! ❤️🎶❤️
Eargasms 💖🎶 Supertramp is their own genre and vibe.
Entire Album ALERT!! - Crime Of The Century!

Who the hell, indeed! I’ve been asking myself that question for half a century…
Excellent review, as always.. Saw them live at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo just after Crime of the Century came out.Powerful sound. You still haven't gotten to my to personal favorites, School and Rudy. You will truly enjoy..
Good stuff, wish I was younger to experience this all over again. You did it for me. Thanks for your time.
They have such a vast catalogue to choose from ear candy all around. Real shame they’re not into the Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame…
Shame, but not a surprise. TRARHOF is about as bad a joke as you could imagine. As Eddie Trunk once pointed out, for a while Madonna was in it but Deep Purple wasn't...
And you should check out a live performance, the band is pretty cool
Whole album is a mega banger.
I was 17 in 1977 when I saw this band in Regina. Amazing.
Supertramp sort of perfectly bridged the gap between pop and progressive rock. Progressive pop! And as good as this studio track is, it's even better live. They put out a double album live set called Paris - I'd recommend checking out that version of this song, too.

You guys have to do some of their songs from live shows. So good and it’s spot on every time with every instrument include the horns!
"Child Of Vision" by SUPERTRAMP! Somebody back me up!😆👍🏼
Lord luvs ducks you guys. Momma gonna tell you😂Supertramp Crime of the Century!!! This is only one cut from one of the most iconic albums of all time. Every single flippin song is just timeless.

This was played so much on the radio for a solid 5+ years (still) I lost my appreciation unfairly. It's a true orchestral masterpiece.
"Dreamer" is a MASTERPIECE!!
My favorite song from Supertramp!
Thanks bros for sharing!🙏
Farout,,.. & they sounded the same as this live. Ty. So much from them
The Logical Song is my favorite!
I remember the first time I heard this. Just about to leave the house as a teenager it came on the radio. It stopped me in my tracks and I turned around and listened to the whole thing. One of my fave tracks!!!! Supertramp is pure class!!!!! On all levels pure CLASS!
SuperTramp is definitely progressive. Crime of the Century is one of the greatest story albums, a masterpiece.

This entire album is amazeballs.
Great song, great reaction. If you want three, maybe four melodies in a Supertramp record, try Goodbye Stranger. It's my favorite Supertramp record, and one of my favorites, period.
gets you psyched everytime you hear it
School, Crime of the Century, Child of Vision... just to get you started Bros. You guys are still in the shallow water, come on in deeper.😎
Crime of the Century is my favorite song by them. (it's also my favorite album)
One of their best gents..
You want eargasm total ear candy? Supertramp's "Fool's Overture" will take you on a journey.
That production was impeccable
SuperTramp is so underrated. I’m a Dreamer ❤
Just another great rock n roll band to us 70's teenagers. 🙂
This group can and did sparkle. So many times!
These guys were a jukebox staple for us at the lake… along with Queen, and…. Don’t get me started.
This is a concept album- tell's a story all the way through.
I have appreciated Supertramp more and more over time.
