McDonald's apple pies were deep fried, and served at the temperature of the surface of Mercury. Even after sitting for an hour, they were still scalding hot. I'll try yours.
i think the kiwico ad was amazing. i’d even order it for myself as an adult because i’m someone that has a lot of sensory issues & can be easily overwhelmed by long lists of ingredients or vague cooking instructions. great work emmy!
“Caution : Contents may be hot!!! “ It would be wonderful with a pumpkin cream cheese filling. Emmy is my life blood. I still want to see you make hamburger helper sushi or lunchables waffles.
McDonalds did actually make a pumpkin hand pie similar to their apple pie back in the early 00’s. I recall trying it, and it was actually quite tasty, hot and creamy with pumpkin spice
Emmy! We still have fried apple pies in McDonald's Mexico, we have also a cheese filled variety. Thank you for keeping a smile in our faces during this uncertain times.

I like adding a little drizzle of caramel over the apple filling before sealing up the puff pastry and to be extra, after cooling a few minutes, brush the pastry with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top. It's sort of like Taco Bell's Caramel Apple Empanada, except it tastes 100 times better.
When McD stopped making the fried and used the baked ones, it upset people. So, someone made a website listing all the McDonalds that DID still sell the fried ones !!! Because some stores were still selling them, but it was hit or miss trying to find them. The website was cool, imagine being so in love with the pies that you make a website. YAY OH, they also stopped the cherry version. dang
That was great. I had a neighbor when I was little and Flo would make fried apples pies. So good. Please Stay Safe, Happy And Healthy. Have A Wonderful Day

I had a deep-fried Mcdonalds apple pie on my way home from the airport in Norway yesterday. I think it's my favourite thing from McD. And the berry pies they have in Poland are great too.
That's pretty cool Emmy, all you people should be inspired and accomplish tasks that make them feel good and successful , Thanks Kiwico. not a huge fan of Mc McDonald though they certainly don't inspire anyone to anything but quick and fattening eating habits...however your apple pie/fritter looks very tasty and we will try it out.
I’m actually shocked to hear McDonalds’ apple pies aren’t fried anymore. I had one a couple months ago and it felt/tasted like it was fried. Surprised they could get that texture just with baking.
McDonald's apple pies used to be deep fried in lard. OMG were they sooooooooooo good. The crust was all bubbly and crispy. You would bite into them and it would burn the ever lovin' crap out of your mouth and you didn't care.
That yummy crate is a cute idea. Your son singing as he cooks was also very cute.😊 I was wondering... I heard that milk can be used instead of egg wash to brown pastry. Is that true?
I was so confused for a second cause here in Germany (at least where I live) they are deep fried and always have been as far as I remember 😄 Ps: today I went and got one just to check if I remember it correctly or not 😂

All I can think about when I remember those apple pies is how hot they always were, it actually is a little bit of a traumatizing memory. It’s appropriate that you tried yours piping hot 😂
"Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside!! ARMADILLOS!!!!!" - Might need to be British to get that one... :P (Look up "Harry Enfield Dime Bar Armadillos advert", it's just silly!)
IMO this is more like Arby’s turnover than McDonald’s. Yeah I remember those fried apple pies, there’s a few places in my state that still fries them but McDonald’s quit several years ago and I think it’s a mistake
I had a lid shatter on me using it like this, heat going around the pot/pan right onto the overhanging glass. Maybe my using a smaller setup was worse, closer to the center of the flame, but yeah, just thought I'd mention that.
As a retired teacher with over 35 yrs experience and Mom of 2 young adults, I have checked out their products previously and am only sad that these weren't available when I could have used them! The kits look amazing! They're designed to encourage independent thinking and creativity while building upon science and math skills! I would recommend to anyone who can afford them, would make great Christmas gifts I bet!
I got my kids the Tinker Crate series last Christmas and they had a lot of fun with them! So glad KiwiCo included The Yummy Crate it's perfect for those that are interested in eating their projects. 😋
I have a 4 yr old and she loves her kiwicrates!! I am so glad i bought a year subscription because every month is a learning adventure!! We absolutely love kiwicrate!
You're food videos over the last who knows how many years have caused me to really broaden my pallet. Your food descriptions on taste, texture, mouth feel, everything, really helped my get over my fear of strange food. I got an appreciation for looking for each component as opposed to being overwhelmed by too many flavours. Even going into the science of how food just works. I've gained such a better understanding for food. Without your videos, I honestly think I'd still be eating chicken nuggets every day 😂 now I'm far more adventurous with my food and my cooking. I eat sea food now, 18 year old me would never.
Awwww! As someone who has always had an adventurous palate and could never understand “picky eaters” , thank you for posting this. I had always assumed picky eaters were just being difficult. I never thought there could be a sensory issue involved. You’ve helped me to be a bit more understanding and compassionate ❤️
Me too. I did see some frozen pies for sale in bulk that looked just like McDonald’s that I could fry but I’d have to buy over a hundred. I love and miss them but not that much.
Interesting that you mentioned baking soda lowering the PH for pretzels and thereby allowing better browning - the same technique was used for roasting potatoes on SortedFood the other day.
Back in the day I used to get an apple pie every time I went to McD’s they were so delicious. However, when they changed from deep fried to baked, I bought one and it was the last apple pie I ever had from them. Maybe both are good in their own way, but comparing them to each other, the original is the best and the new one tastes like disappointment.
I make a larger version of these for thanksgiving every year! They're super easy and feed a whole bunch of people. The filling I make is a little different. I cook the apples with some brown sugar and get the apples super syrupy. It's always been a hit :)
I can see all kinds of applications for this-I love making pies, but as a single person I don’t love having a whole pie lying around. I never thought of using puff pastry to make hand pies with my regular fillings!
It's best to allow your pies to cool a few minutes before eating because "Contents hot!". What's your favorite pie?
Strawberry rhubarb!🙋🏻♀️
Lemon meringue pie 🍋
Peach and blueberry cobbler (I know it's not a pied, but still!)
Derby or pecan
Cherry
Steam rising. "So hot." Proceeds to take a bite any way and burns mouth. I found this very relatable.
Right?! You just CAN'T wait. 😜
McDonald's apple pies were deep fried, and served at the temperature of the surface of Mercury. Even after sitting for an hour, they were still scalding hot. I'll try yours.
They still are here in the UK
Were? They still are! Lmao
Big difference in the old apple pie(deep fried), to new apple pie, which is baked!....it sucks now.....way better fried!
That coffee lady would have been jealous
Series suggestion: making signature dishes from each state.
Love that idea!!!! Good thinking!!!!
Maryland would have to be Atlantic blue crabs steamed with Old Bay.
Too much disagreement on what that would be.
I love that! Make Buckeyes for Ohio!!!
I actually really like this idea

Oh, thank you. My kiddo and I had such a good time.🧡 If you try it, let me know what you think.
My adult son has sensory issues and he uses thus product. He was an amazing cook anyway but this really took it over the top!! I recommend it 10 of 10

We always put ginger and cloves as well as nutmeg and cinnamon in our cooked apples. So tasty.

Bake it in an air fryer for that crispy texture.

My husband loved the taro pie there. Not sure if they still have them, this was about 13 yrs ago 🤷🏻♀️😂
I used to make apple turnovers with that kind of puff pastry and a similar filling.

I think I would rather use Bramley apples, otherwise known as cooking apples in the UK. They have a lovely tart flavour.😊
That little apple part falling next to the pan was so triggering.. I couldn't take my eyes off of it, AHH I WANT TO PICK IT UP SO BAD
I am currently trying this recipe with pears off our tree instead of apples.

Mc D's fried apple pies and their old hot chocolate. Yum!
Granny apples is the way to go. My wife and I did that. Definitely has to be deep fat fried like in Hawaii, but where did you get that dough?
Looked and sounded delicious 😋
I used to make this in a McDonald's kids toy and used bread to make the apple pies with jelly haha, great video!
That sounds like a sweet vintage toy. 🍔
Fun fact. McDonald's doesn't use real bits of apple. It's parsnip. And apple flavours.
Whyyyyyyyy???🙍♀️

Fry them and you will have the original McDonald's apple pie
I’m one of the (apparently) few who prefer baked over fried pies. I actually HATED the texture of the fried pies.
I’m pretty sure the old friend McDonald’s pies were coated in cinnamon sugar after frying. 😋
You rock!
I was following your video, expecting you were going to make the McDonald's fried apple pie, and you made the baked version 😢
I don't know I find premade puff pasty to be not sweet, and a bit bitter. (pepperidge farms puff pastry)
I know what you mean. Usually if a pastry is all butter, it’s less likely to have that problem. I don’t know about P farms.
I think you should batter and deep-fry some modern McD’s pies.
It's apple, it's pie, if it fails at being either, or both, you're at a wendys
I just today ate Mc apple pie and it def was deep fried.. I live in PR

You can use it very sparingly on thin cuts of meat ( pork chops) to speed the browning without overcooking then.
