- If H.R. 8070 passes and becomes law, men and women will have to register for selective service in case the military ever executes the draft.

No all this will do is weaken the military. Imaging we have half women on our front line and Iran has 100% men we will get crushed.

@@janefelix3821 We haven’t had any full scale wars against a superpower since WW2. If we get involved in Taiwan vs China conflict, it will be a devastating full scale conflict. If we get involved with boots in the ground with Israel Vs Iran or Ukraine vs Russia, it will be a full scale disaster and will be a mandatory draft.

@@PottedPanda i researched it a bit more and your right states became more relaxed around the 1800s so that even poor men could vote,my connection is that the voting age is 18 and that age was chosen because your are able to be drafted which is a big reason for the change as men who are forced to fight and die for their country should have the right to vote on its development but otherwise your right the connection is weak.

@@MARStheFORSAKEN Men did not have to register to vote as they were two independent issues. The voting age, per the 26th Amendment, was set at 18 due to the draft, but men did not have to get drafted to vote and since 1973 there has been no draft.

I'm glad I retired and dont have a daughter. My son was rejected to join USAF due to mild asthma when he was little.
I've looked up the text of H.R. 8070, and I didn't see any mention of registering women for a draft. Title V, Subtitle D, Section 531 talks about Selective Service automatic registration, but it only mentions males. To wit:
"(a) Automatic Registration.--The Military Selective Service Act (50
U.S.C. 3801 et seq.) is amended by striking section 3 (50 U.S.C. 3802)
and inserting the following new section 3:
``Sec. 3. (a)(1) Except as otherwise provided in this title, every
male citizen of the United States, and every other male person residing
in the United States, between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six,
shall be automatically registered under this Act by the Director of the
Selective Service System.
``(2) This section shall not apply to any alien lawfully admitted
to the United States as a nonimmigrant under section 101(a)(15) of the
Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101) for so long as he
continues to maintain a lawful nonimmigrant status in the United
States."
Section 531 goes on to other amendments of minutiae, but there's no mention of registering women. I don't know if there's another section that provides for that. If there is, I hope someone will provide it.

Good luck getting enough 18-25 year olds to go. The military has recruitment problems now which tells you how appealing it is, now add a draft on that and you just caused some major backlash.

If H.R. 8070 passes females will also be required to register for selective service. If China, and Russia does then U.S. has little choice but to compensate for the numbers. Very likely women will be required to register by 2026.
