I hate when I am working on a laser job, and something happens which doesn't allow the job to finish.
And I have had all the issues. Power outages, safety switches kicking in, uneven material, I even had my cat trigger a laser warning one time!
That's why being able to restart your laser job quickly can save you time and money getting to your next job.
With a little planning and know-how, nothing will stop you from getting that project done!

I don't get the point. You can separate specific areas afterwards and laser them again. Why the work in advance if not for different settings? But great video I was searching for the info how to start the job from a specific point and from the preview was the way to go. Thanks very much

Pro Tip: Set that outside line (the frame) to Offset Fill and cut your engrave time in half!

Great vid as usual - thanks, Gil. There's also "Cut Selected Graphics", which is fast to use (as opposed to unchecking all other layers).

Great tip mp6814. 🙏 I will share that in the future too, just wanted to show someone the basics so that they could go over things like text and lines in a selective way. Always good to know the basics first :)

Hi, great tips thank you, please advise if I am wrong but restarting this way would only work if the job is not moved and is set up using absolute coordinates, and not if you used - user origin or current position? I had an issue as my burn was not dark enough and i was using current position only realizing after moving the job. I have used a tip you showed us to reset up the job - using print and cut. I set up a new layer and placed a couple of dots on the existing picture lines and lined up the two points then turned off the new layer and restarted the job. Worked a treat, thanks heaps for all your advise and posts you are my first stop if i need advise. Cheers
    Doug

Great to hear that the print and cut option saved the day. I have another option that I will share in the near future. :)
Love those laser success stories! 👍😎🚀🎉

Thank you very much. This information will be very helpful and could have saved me a lot of time on past jobs where I needed to fix something and have the job start at a certain point.

Great to hear Tim. I know there is nothing as frustrating as having to work out how to restart a job, or even having to start it from scratch. What do you make with your laser? Do you incorporate it in your woodturning?

I am doing a picture on Canvas. The laser burns about one hour and stops. I have a time that it stopped. I try to restart from the preview with the same time and it gives me a black line that has been missed. How do I start exactly where the laser stopped?
    thanks for your help.

I would suggest exploring why your laser stops around an hour. Is it overheating?
Continuous engraving is one of the hardest processes to restart. You can eyeball it using the "Start here" option in preview, but the best I can get is a slight line where the engraving begins and overlaps.
If you have time and want a better option, you can measure the engraving, draw a box with the same dimensions, and use the image mask to "cut away" the part of the engraving that you have already finished. The closer you can get with your measurements, the better your success will be.
You can check out image masking here : ua-cam.com/video/vgl7hOrPvAw/v-deo.html
Let me know if that helps and what your results are! :) Good luck! 🤞
