I've been on the fence now for a while now. I'm a 45 y/o beer leaguer and my hips get cranky with me pretty much every morning after hockey; play 2-3 times a week. So I'm gonna order a set today and take your advice! Thanks for your review/testimonial. 👍

Hey there glad to hear the video was helpful! It sucks getting old with all the joint problems, but I’m glad there’s steel like this that will at least support us better than any other steel out there. By the way, you should also get your steel profiled at the time you’re purchasing your steel. That’ll help in addition to the steel. Google “Binnie’s Skate Sharpening” in Pittsburg to buy and profile your BladeTech. Tell Jason Binnie that Chris from the Guitar Slinger Hockey channel sent you. You can call him directly and he’ll give you advice on what profile to order if you aren’t sure. Thanks!

@@mongillohockey Okay, so I've had a chance to take my new BladTech runners out. Played in 4 games and hit the outdoor rink a couple times & so far, so good. Not sure if it's just subliminal but I am noticing less joint pain & feeling less fatigued after games. I don't have any "clicking" noises some folks mention from the runners flexing in/out of the holders, which is good b/c I'd probably find that slightly annoying too. Not sure about being "faster" but then again I am still just getting used to these. I didn't end up getting them profiled. I just went with the standard 9-11-13 default profile the runners come with and a 5/8 sharpening. Also, with this many skates the old LS4's would definitely need sharpening but not with these! So far I'm pretty happy with these runners. Thanks again for your video and putting me on to BladeTech. They should be reaching out with a commission or something for ya 😉

@@kmbawdry Haha nice! Yeah I think for a really high end skater they might see a slight performance difference but that wasn’t my goal. Sounds like it wasn’t for you either. Regarding the clicking, most holders are the culprit on that front, but most steel manufacturers have a slightly different thickness. Like the DLC finish is slightly tighter than the stainless in my opinion. Also, the clicking specific to BladeTech I heard about but it was really early on in production, like years ago. There was even a time when they maybe the steel so hard that some sharpening wheels couldn’t sharpen it! Anyways, it’s all evolved and pretty much perfected.

Just viewed this video and skated once on my BT blades with Quad Zero profile. I mentioned the profile to my local sharpener and he said "8 out of 10 guys go back to a 9 foot radius after trying the Quad". Have you heard this before? I have used a radius (not sure what) and it was quicker response but not as stable. I feel like I get a quicker response off the line with the BT and feel they are a good thing to protect from injury.

Hi there. So I’ve heard a lot of general trash talking about profiles in general. When negative comments like the one that came from your shop come up, it’s usually due to one of a couple reasons. First off, the person may be set in their ways and against new tech. They may not offer anything but a single profile or maybe they skates in a quad zero and didn’t like it. For example, I’ve had nothing but bad experience with custom True skates and would never recommend them, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad skates for you or anyone else. Also, I own a 9 foot radius and quad zero and the quad zero is better in my mind. It gives you the agility you want but also a reasonable amount of speed. The 9 foot is slow and unstable. Anyways, I think you made the right call

Hey. Great video. Q - I am one of the outliers who doesn’t like the taller steel. I prefer a lower centre of balance and, while I understand bladetech isn’t as tall relative than step and others however, it is tall. How would you suggest I account for my preference if I get bladetech? Just get it ground down a profiled so that it isn’t as tall?

I’m actually similar to you with regards to your steel height preference. Here’s my thoughts. You can buy used steel but it’s never going to take a profile as well as new steel. As far as I can tell you have two options. The first is to buy BladeTech and get used to it. The second is buy Bauer LS3 or LS4 steel. It’s a performance hit but I think the steel is shorter. Hope that helps!

I really gotta get on these. Perhaps soon depending how these profiles go ;)

Thanks for the video! I've been looking at BladeTech DLC steel for a while now, especially because of the cutout design. I have been kind of skeptical about it actually helping tho. Lately I have been getting back into skating and hopefully some hockey as well, but I have bad knees. 2 weeks ago I played some pond hockey for a few hours and the next day my left knee was all blown up and mad at me. It really bummed me out, so I've been continuing to look into the BT stuff. I'm 40yo and still working on my skating.. but I really enjoy it. I never had ice growing up, just inline so I'm getting into it kinda later in life haha. Looks like I'll be saving up for some new steel now. Thanks for your review.

Hey there, thanks for the comment! So, as someone who has two fake hips, I can tell you there should be no other steel you consider using. The reality is that no piece of hockey equipment can fix a genetic or wear issue with joints, but some can make it worse or help a little. BladeTech will give you a little more performance than other steel, but you should look at it from an injury prevention standpoint. It's true that you can go longer without sharpening than even Step Steel Blacksteel, but injury prevention is the first priority. I believe BladeTech can do that. Also, in addition to using BladeTech, you really should consider profiling your steel to add more performance AND reduce the risk of injury further. I've done a video on that already. Thanks again!

@@mongillohockey Thanks for the response. I think Bladetech will be the way for me to go. Not gong to lie, that black DLC coating looks amazing as well! I recently purchased some Bauer Supreme M4's and love them, the boots anyway. I found the stock radius (10' I believe) had me on my heels too much. It would take me up to half an hour on the ice to stop battling falling backwards. So I recently got a Quad 1 put on, and wow.. it fixed the heel issue.. but now I feel there is too much heel! I guess I'll do a few more skates on them before I write it off. I just wanted to lock in a profile before I order the BT's. I have watched your profile video a few times now. Lots of good info! I noted you mentioned that Bauer has a questionable record of profiling accurately from the factory. If I can't get happy with the Quad 1 maybe I'll try a single 10' radius again from a reputable shop.
